Alanis Morissette Records Marianne Williamson’s Campaign Song

Alanis Morissette recorded a song called Today for her pal Marianne Williamson to use as her campaign theme song. Williamson is running for congress in California’s 33rd district for a seat presently held by Rep. Henry Waxman. Morissette hopes her song will help take her friend all the way to congress.

“I was attempting to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it,” Morissette said in a statement. “Recording at Sunset Sound with my bandmates, Marianne came by and visited. We all huddled together as the song was recorded. I love this song. I love this woman, and I love a world that would vote for her.”

“Alanis Morissette has produced a masterpiece,” Williamson wrote on her website. “I have never heard a song more powerfully describe this moment in our history, or more lovingly call forth our generation’s genius from the ashes of our pain. With her inimitable musical alchemy, Alanis has provided an anthem for our audacious quest to get America back on track.”

Morissette seems excited about the song and about her candidate/friend.

“In the words of Benjamin Franklin, ‘America’s destiny is not Power, but Light.’ Would he love Alanis, or what?” Williamson added.

The song speaks of a “mending of our union” and also calls for a “revolution.” The video shows Marianne Williamson in a meet and greet with the public as Alanis sings Today in the recording studio.

Alanis Morissette isn’t the only celebrity endorsing Marianne Williamson. She is also wholeheartedly supported by Jane Lynch, Nicole Richie, and Eva Longoria. Last month Kim Kardashian and sister Kourtney Kardashian, along with singer Katy Perry supported Williamson at a political event. Marianne Williamson has written self-help books for years. Her foray into politics is something new.

Might Alanis Morissette’s Today help her win her congressional seat?
