Alan Thicke to Star in New Reality TV Show

Alan Thicke, best known for his role as Jason Seaver on the 1980s and 1990s hit TV show Growing Pains, is launching his own reality TV show. Unusually Thicke will follow the daily lives of Alan, along with his young wife Tanya and the couple’s teenage son Carter.

Unusually Thicke combines my two favorite things,” the 67-year-old actor said in a statement about his return to TV. “Family … and laughing at my family.”

“This series is my foray into the ‘reality-ish’ television world where viewers will meet the lovable, unpredictable and often challenging people who live with the real Jason Seaver,” Thicke added.

Celebrity friends of the reality family will guest star on the new show. Blurred Lines singer Robin Thicke, Alan Thicke’s eldest son, will be among them. Miley Cyrus, who twerked alongside Thicke at the American Music Awards last fall–will not.

“He loves [Robin] more than me,” son Carter says with a deadpan expression during the reality show’s trailer. “Why? Because he makes him more money.”

Other guest star celebrities will include David Hasselhoff, Bob Saget, John Stamos, Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzky, Bill Maher, and Tom Green.

So what’s your take on Alan Thicke’s return to TV–and on a reality show nonetheless? Is he hoping to ride the coattails of son Robin Thicke’s recent rise to the top of the music scene? Can a show touting David Hasselhoff as a potential guest star be expected to climb really high on the ratings chart?

If you were a Growing Pains star–or if you simply want to see Alan Thicke back on TV–you can tune in to what actually sounds like a rather questionable premise for a new reality show in April. Unusually Thicke premieres on TVGN on April 16th at 10:00 P.M.
