Abigail Breslin–who recently went blonde and is unrecognizable to some of her fans–is stirring up buzz with her upcoming film, “August: Osage County”.
The “Little Miss Sunshine” actress is in good company in the film, alongside Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch and Juliette Lewis. The movie is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts and follows the dysfunctional Weston family as they prove to be disappointment after disappointment to matriarch Violet, played by Streep. The film takes a deeper look than usual at the family dynamic and is given a full two hours to play it out, although the play itself is three hours long with two intermissions. The cast dealt with lots of emotional trauma during the shoot–particularly while shooting violent scenes–and, according to Roberts, would get together at Meryl Streep’s home to unwind after the day’s work was done.
“It was intimidating, certainly, to be in these scenes with her and choking her and things like that – it was not how I pictured it going in my mind all these years. There was always a hug and kiss and an ‘I love you,’ and that was the elixir that I needed to come in the next day and climb over the next table to choke her in the next way,” Roberts said.
Breslin is getting good reviews along with the film after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, but says her new look is confusing to fans…and to coworkers.
“The cast doesn’t recognize me! I was like ‘Hey guys!’ and they were like, ‘Who’s this random girl crashing our photo shoot today?’” she said.
