Posterous Launches Spaces

cyber

Posterous has redesigned its user experience into what it’s calling Posterous Spaces, for the web, iPhone and Android.

“Private sharing is in a rut and is still largely relegated to the inbox,” a representative for Posterous tells WebProNews. “Outdated Groups products aren’t nimble and privacy options from social network upstarts and heavyweights are incomplete and overly complicated.”

“With the launch of Posterous Spaces, the company is bringing its trademark simplicity to help people share smarter with intuitive privacy controls that mirror how people share in real life,” she adds.

“Whether you want to create a public blog, a private place to share family vacation photos or start a group for your classmates to stay in touch, you can create a Space for it,” says Rich Pearson on the Posterous blog.  “Adding members to your Space is a snap, and your members can participate through your Space’s web site, their mobile device or via email.”

What’s new and what’s different about Posterous Spaces from Posterous on Vimeo.

It’s already drawn comparisons to Google’s Circles, but that’s not the way Posterous is pitching it. “Versus Google Circles we think we’re building for normal people,” CEO Sachin Agarwal is quoted as saying. “We use the analogy of email [where you know who you’re sending to and they know who they’re receiving it from] — everything is symmetric groups.”

The imagery in the videos (and pictured at the top) probably don’t help counter the Cirlces comparisons.

It is change, so naturally some are already complaining. We haven’t seen a massive backlash erupt yet, but the day is still young.
