Esther Jenner: Mom Will Still Call Caitlyn Jenner ‘Bruce’

Esther Jenner is incredibly supportive of son Bruce Jenner’s transition from a man to a woman–except for one thing. She admits she’s having difficulty using the new name.

Caitlyn Jenner made her debut on the July cover of Vanity Fair on Monday to rave reviews. And Esther Jenner wholeheartedly agrees with the reviews.

“I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago,” Esther said in an interview with Access Hollywood. “And I met Caitlyn. She is… so much more at ease.”

The 88-year-old spoke of the name change as being her only issue with the transition.

“I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that,” Esther Jenner explained. “It’s going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so… I’m very happy for him–or her!”

It’s actually pretty remarkable that a woman of 88 can accept the transition her son has gone through. As a rule, older people tend to have a harder time accepting things that were simply not spoken of during their younger years.

Esther Jenner actually believes Caitlyn Jenner resembles another family member.

“You know who she reminds me of, my granddaughter Samantha. There is a lot of Sam!” she said, explaining that Samantha is Caitlyn Jenner’s niece.

Caitlyn Jenner took to Twitter to celebrate the transition following the sneak peek of the Vanity Fair cover on Monday.

Stepdaughter Kim Kardashian asked her Twitter followers to consider following Caitlyn Jenner.

Bruce Jenner has received lots of support from his family members in his transition to ‘her,’ now officially known to the world as Caitlyn Jenner. In a world where some parents disown their children for living as their true selves, Esther Jenner is to especially be commended for her open-mindedness and unconditional love–even if she still refers to Caitlyn as Bruce.
