Kandi Burruss Shares Details About Her Ironclad Prenup

Kandi Burruss will stop at nothing to protect her wealth and all that she has amassed over the years.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star refuses to risk losing any of her assets – not even for the love of her now-husband, Todd Tucker.

During a recent interview with The Grio, Burruss shared her perspective of women who are financially stable and how they should protect themselves, regardless of love. Although no one goes into marriage anticipating divorce, it does happen.

“You don’t get to see it a lot… where a woman is in financially better off than the husband,” Kandi said. “You have to protect yourself.”

“Y’all know how divorce happens out of the blue to people that we thought we couldn’t believe they got divorced. So you have to be ready for a mad day,” she continued.

“People can work things out and talk about how we wanted things to be when we’re on the same page, but when we get mad people want to hurt each other. How they want to hurt you? In your pocket. You not gonna be goin’ for mine.”

Burruss opened up about the prenup, following the third episode of her wedding special, which aired on Sunday, June 29. The now-married couple quickly became a trending topic all over social media sites after Tucker’s refusal to sign the prenup.

Despite his resistance to signing the papers, the “Fly Above” singer clarified that Tucker has no problems with the terms of their agreement. He also has no reservations about splitting any money they make together.

“I feel like we should work together to make money together,” Burruss said. “The things that I’m trying to protect are the things that I had going into the marriage, meaning: Bedroom Kandi, my music, my stores, my properties and different things that I had going into the marriage.”

The 38-year-old reality star went on to share one of her main reasons for proposing such an ironclad prenup – the possibility of spousal support. She also spoke of other celebrities embroiled in legal battles with their estranged exes all because prenups weren’t in place for their financial protection.

“I’m not paying spousal support, oh no,” she said. “I’m seeing too much going on right now. Halle Berry’s paying $20,000 a month in child support, and then poor Sherri [Shepherd], she had a prenup and now [her husband, John Sally] is coming after her for spousal support. They’ve only been married a few years.  Are you kidding me?”

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker’s Coming to America-themed wedding ceremony aired on Sunday, July 6 at 8/7c on Bravo. For those who missed it, the wedding ceremony airs again on Tuesday, July 8 at 7:30/6:30c, only on Bravo.
