Actress Krysta Rodriguez is leaving How I Met Your Dad just days before production for the pilot is set to begin, Entertainment Weekly reported Tuesday.
The Smash star was cast to play one of the leads in CBS’ How I Met Your Mother spin-off. She was to play the sexy, flamboyant fashion blogger best friend of Greta Gerwig’s lead Mother character, named Sally. After a table read, producers decided Rodriguez was not working out.
In the vein of the original series, How I Met Your Dad tells the story from a female point of view, that of Sally, and revolves around a new group of friends in New York. Sally’s character is described as a “female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year, and will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family.”
How I Met Your Dad‘s three male leads are played by Drew Tarver, Nick D’Agosto and Andrew Santino. The pilot, from 20th TV, was written by Emily Spivey and How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Rob Greenberg is directing.
Rodriguez is best known for her roles in TV’s Smash. The singer and actress has appeared in a number of Broadway shows, including In the Heights. She originated the role of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family Musical on Broadway in 2010, and most recently starred in First Date the Musical in 2013.
