In 2013, LG released two flagship mobile devices – the G2 and Nexus 5. While we’re not likely to see a G2 or new Nexus 5 anytime soon, the company will reportedly be unveiling a new high-end smartphone at next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
ET News (as translated by Droid Life) is reporting that LG will unveil the successor to last year’s G Pro next month. The G Pro 2 will bring with it a bump in specs and display size making it a suitable competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Note.
According to the report, the G Pro 2 will sport a 6-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 CPU, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4. There’s no word yet on if the device will feature anything to help distinguish it from the pack. If it’s simply a larger LG Pro, its appeal may be lost on consumers looking for something a little different in their phablets.
Speaking of phablets, a report out of Juniper Research on Wednesday said that 20 million large-screen smartphones shipped last year. It expects the number of large-smartphone shipments to increase to 120 million by 2018. If LG can effectively market the LG G Pro 2, it might be able to steal some of those sales away from Samsung’s immensely popular Galaxy Note line.
We’ll likely find out more about the LG G Pro 2 and other rumored devices at Mobile World Congress 2014. The event is scheduled to begin on February 24 and will last through February 27.
