Katie Couric To Take Over For Barbara Walters?

Katie Couric has been pulled into the string of rumors plaguing “The View”, with some sources saying she’s being looked at by producers to take over Barbara’s seat when she retires next year.

Walters had been denying word of retirement for several months before finally admitting that she would be leaving next summer, but ABC issued a statement, saying that until then she “will continue to anchor and report for ABC News, appear on The View, and anchor specials throughout the year including a 20 Years of 10 Most Fascinating People special in December, an Oscars special, and a May career retrospective.” Now that Katie Couric’s solo talk-show duties are proving a little much to handle, she may get a chance at Walters’ seat.

“The feeling across the board is that Katie is rejected by audiences when she is alone, but on a panel show she’s incredible, and even not liking her can work in the show’s favor and her favor,” said a source.

A source for New York Daily News says that Katie’s show hasn’t proven to be the success the producers were hoping for and that it will likely be canceled by the end of the year.

“They realize it will never be a success and ratings are down drastically from last season,” said the source. “The ABC development team has been working nonstop on new talk show pilots and are looking at high-profile names to replace her, hopefully by January.”
