Worklight Acquired By IBM

office tech trends

IBM just announced that it has completed the acquisition of Israeli smartphone/tablet software provider Worklight. The acquisition plans were announced at the end of January.

IBM says Worklight will become an important piece of its mobility strategy, “helping clients dramatically reduce mobile application time to market, cost and complexity.” It will be integrated into IBM’s WebSphere Software business.

“Additionally,” IBM says, “By enabling organizations to only develop and integrate these applications once — for any platform — it frees up time, resources and skills to focus on other business opportunities.”

Worklight’s solutions are already in use by various industries, such as: retail, financial services, technology, travel and hospitality and manufacturing. The software lets companies create and run HTML5, and hybrid and native smartphone and tablet apps.

Worklight CEO Shahar Kaminitz posted a letter on the company’s site:

Today we announced that Worklight signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by IBM and will be incorporated as a critical part of its mobile strategy and enterprise mobility portfolio. Since founding Worklight in early 2006, it has been my passion to lead this company to deliver true value to our customers through the best product in the market. Worklight’s “DNA” was always comprised of technological excellence, agility and exceeding customer expectations. In joining the IBM team after close, Worklight will continue to deliver on this promise with extended market reach and a broader mobile technology solution.

Our customers remain our top priority and will continue to benefit from the unmatched capabilities of the Worklight mobile application platform. We will continue to enhance our technology with the same spirit and vision that has made us unique in the mobile landscape.

On a personal note, I would like to thank Worklight employees for their unwavering dedication and hard work over the years. It makes me proud to have such a strong and diversified team by my side, as we join the IBM WebSphere group after close, and stay the course we charted early on.

With aggressive growth predictions across the mobile enterprise industry in 2012 and Worklight’s technical leadership, we’re excited about what lies ahead for us and our customers and partners, and look forward to thriving in our new home.

Stay tuned for more exciting news!
