Intel Dealing With Zombieland Flaw For Third Time

For the third time in a year, Intel is preparing to release a patch to address two microarchitectural data sampling (MDS) flaws, also known as Zombieland flaws.

According to the company’s blog post, of these two new issues, one is considered low risk and the other medium. Both of them require authenticated local access, meaning a hacker should not be able to remotely exploit these flaws. These new issues are closely related to issues that were addressed in May and November 2019, as Intel has worked to progressively reduce the MDS vulnerability.

“These issues are closely related to INTEL-SA-00233, released in November 2019, which addressed an issue called Transactional Synchronization Extensions (TSX) Asynchronous Abort, or TAA,” writes Jerry Bryant, Director of security communication in the Intel Platform Assurance and Security group. “At the time, we confirmed the possibility that some amount of data could still potentially be inferred through a side-channel and would be addressed in future microcode updates.

“Since May 2019, starting with Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS), and then in November with TAA, we and our system software partners have released mitigations that have cumulatively and substantially reduced the overall attack surface for these types of issues. We continue to conduct research in this area – internally, and in conjunction with the external research community.”

Intel has faced intense criticism from security researchers for its decision to address these vulnerabilities in phases, rather than taking an immediate, comprehensive approach to fixing them.

In the meantime, the latest patch should be available “in the near future.”

  • Zombieland Series Gets the Ax, Creator Says Fans ‘Hated It Out of Existence’

It appears that the fans have spoken – Amazon Studio’s Zombieland series will not be receiving a full run.

The news was tweeted out by series writer/producer Rhett Reese, who went on to say that viewers “hated it out of existence.” Reese also worked on the film of the same name that inspired the Amazon series.

Zombieland was part of big push from Amazon into the original content game, spearheaded by their Amazon Studios division. Back in April, Amazon released 14 pilots (both comedy and kids shows) and asked fans to submit their feedback. Amazon said that fan feedback would determine which pilots were picked up for full series runs, but didn’t go into any more specifics.

The other shows include Alpha House, Betas, Browsers, Dark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural, Those Who Can’t, Annebots, Creative Galaxy, Positively Ozitively, Sara Solves It, Teeny Tiny Dogs, and Tumbleaf.

The Zombieland pilot, which has been available for all Amazon user to stream for just under a month, currently sits with a 3.5 star rating out of 5 with 5,500 reviews. Did you watch the Zombieland pilot? What did you think?

  • Amazon Debuts 14 Pilots, Wants Your Feedback

Amazon Studios has just unveiled 14 new pilots for your viewing pleasure, and your feedback will determine which pilots are developed into something more.

Over on the Amazon Original Pilots page, you can find the pilots for 8 different comedy shows. Most of them have been announced and viewers have simply been waiting for the pilots to drop – this includes Zombieland, based on the film of the same name and Betas, a show about a Silicon Valley startup.

The full list of the comedy pilots is Alpha House, Betas, Browsers, Dark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural, Those Who Can’t, and Zombieland.

Amazon has also launched the pilots for 6 children’s shows: Annebots, Creative Galaxy, Positively Ozitively, Sara Solves It, Teeny Tiny Dogs, and Tumbleaf.

All of the pilots are free to watch for people in the U.S. and the U.K. German LOVEFILM customers will get the pilots in a few weeks.

Amazon is also inviting viewers to rate and review the pilots, in an attempt to determine which ones should receive a full-series run. On the pilots page, Amazon links viewers to a survey where they can answer questions about any and all of the 14 pilots – “Overall, how would you rate the show” and “Based on what you’ve seen, would you watch future episodes” type questions.

Not all of these pilots will receive additional episodes – but the exact number that will is still undecided. Amazon Studios director Roy Price told The Verge:

“We don’t have any particular number of shows in mind…We would like to see a few shows come out of the process. Seven would be a lot, but zero wouldn’t be enough. So somewhere between there.”

So, go watch, and go vote. Let’s see if Amazon can draw up some good series out of this experiment.

  • Zombieland Pilot Premieres on Amazon (and We Get a Trailer)

UPDATE: The pilot has not yet launched, Amazon informs me. And when it does, it will be available to all, not just Prime members.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The pilot for Amazon’s new original comedy series Zombieland, based on the movie of the same name, is now available for Amazon Prime customers. You can find it here.

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format,” said creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”

Zombieland features the same characters from the film – Columbus, Little Rock, Tallahassee, etc. But you wont see Woody Harrelson or Emma Stone. Instead, a new crop of actors take on the now iconic roles Tyler Ross as Columbus, Izabela Vidovic as Little Rock, Kirk Ward as Tallahassee, and Maiara Walsh as Wichita. Some of the film’s original creative team in on board, however, including writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It’s being directed by Tucker and Dale vs Evil‘s Eli Craig.

You can check out the trailer below:

Zombieland is the 7th comedy pilot greenlit by Amazon Studios, which will all be available on Amazon Prime and LOVEFILM UK. User feedback will determine which pilots are developed into fill series.

  • Zombieland, Amazon’s Just-Greenlit Pilot, Gets a Poster

Earlier this week, Amazon announced that they had ordered up a pilot for Zombieland, a TV series based on the incredibly popular movie of the same name.

When the pilot makes its way to Prime Instant Video, user feedback will determine whether or not it receives orders for a full series run. It will have some competition, going up against six other comedy pilots.

And the series just got its first poster. It’s familiar, while still being different. What do you think?

  • ‘Zombieland’ Pilot Gets Official Nod from Amazon

We’ve known this was coming since reports emerged that Amazon had snatched up the rights back in January, but today the company officially announced that the new Zombieland TV series will land on Prime Instant Video.

Zombieland is the 7th comedy pilot greenlit by Amazon Studios. Eventually, all will make it to Prime Instant Video and LOVEFILM UK, at which point user feedback will determine which ones make the cut. Zombieland was originally rumored to be coming to CBS, but it will find its home on the subscription streaming service.

Zombieland the series is a continuation of the film of the same name, and it has some of the film’s original creative team working on it, including writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The pilot is being directed by Eli Craig, who wrote and directed Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format,” said creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”

The pilot stars Tyler Ross at Columbus, Izabela Vidovic and Little Rock, and Kirk Ward and Tallahassee.

Zombieland is a fan favorite and we can’t wait to see where this story line goes in a serialized format,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, and Justified, and we think adding original shows to that lineup is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

  • ‘Zombieland’ Original Series Coming to Amazon Prime

‘Zombieland’ Original Series Coming to Amazon Prime

Someone find Tallahassee some Twinkies (although it may be even harder now).

Fans of Zombies, the film Zombieland, and streaming video services should be happy with news coming out of the world of all three today. According to reports, Amazon has snatched up the rights to Zombieland, the TV series.

Presumably, that means that we can expect some sort of streaming setup to be delivered via Amazon Prime Instant Video or simply Amazon Prime (if Amazon decides it wants to charge per episode). The report from Broadcast Now suggests that the show would be streamed in 30-minute episodes, and previous leaked casting documents obtained by io9 suggests that the series will center around the characters you know and love from the film.

Previous reports had the Zombieland TV series landing on CBS as some point, but it looks as though Amazon is going to handle the production.

As Amazon fights with streaming competitors like Netflix for your monthly streaming service budget, they will have to increasingly focus on original content, not just making content deals. Netflix is poised to have a pretty big year when in this respect. In just a few weeks, the David Fincher/Kevin Spacey political drama House of Cards will drop on Netflix.

And in April, horror master Eli Roth’s original series Hemlock Grove debuts exclusively on Netflix.

And even though it’s technically not a Netflix original, the Netflix-exclusive series Arrested Development is coming in May.

We’re excited to see the zombie/comedy series in Amazon’s (hopefully) capable hands. You shouldn’t expect it any time soon, however, as casting calls just went out last week for Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock (the characters, not the cities).
