  • Kate Gosselin Holds Yard Sale Following News Of Jon’s Home Eviction

Reality TV star Kate Gosselin plans to hold a yard sale this weekend, causing some to question whether she’s strapped for cash. According to In Touch Weekly, a local radio station has announced that Kate will be selling some of her family’s used possessions at a yard sale on October 25.

Speaking to Y102’s Jackie and Scott, Kate announced that her family, including her eight children made famous by the TLC reality show, will be selling their pre-loved items at a yard sale at St. Johns United Church of Christ. Kate and her children will be letting go of unwanted or no longer needed items that were “clogging up their house.”

Although questions on whether Kate is desperate for cash were sparked by the announcement of the yard sale, the family’s website counters that rumor. An announcement for the yard sale posted on the site states that a portion of the profits from the items will be donated to the Local Animal Rescue League.

Kate has been criticized for selling items that were gifted to her and her children, but she has apparently been managing her finances better than her husband Jon, who recently got evicted from his home in Pennsylvania. According to The Stir, Jon was also fired from his waitering job because he was “blowing off shifts and coming in late,” which might explain why he couldn’t make payments for his house and his checks had been bouncing.

“It’s true. The eviction happened [in early October]. He could no longer afford the rent. He has moved out and is already in a new place in the same neighborhood,” a source told E! News.

Meanwhile, Kate has been involved in a slew of projects to support her brood financially, besides her reality specials for Kate Plus 8 on TLC. Despite criticism of her methods, Kate seems to be pulling her weight as a parent. “[TV] is a pretty fantastic way to feed my children, keep them in an amazing house, at an amazing school and make memories together,” she said in June.

  • Oprah Winfrey Hosts Big Yard Sale For Charity

Oprah Winfrey has certainly never held back her generosity, and always seems to use her money for good in some way. In an outrageously successful event that she held at her home on Saturday, the celebrity talk show host was able to raise $600,000 for charity.

Oprah has been a variety of things throughout her career, including actress, producer, philanthropist, media mogul, and talk show host. Her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show ran from 1986-2011. She has also appeared in several films, most notably The Color Purple, and her recent role in The Butler, which will likely earn her another nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She also has her own television network and magazine.

The wealthy celebrity decided to have a huge rummage sale in order to downsize. The actress has certainly accumulated a lot of stuff, and we all know how much people want to get their hands on something that they know was owned by a celebrity.

The prices for ordinarily mundane items skyrocketed, including a teapot that was expected to sell for $100, that actually went for $1000. There are plenty more examples of items going for outrageous prices, such as two extravagant sofas that brought in a collective $8,750.

The sale was labeled as “The Oprah Winfrey Collection,” containing hundreds of her personal items. The sale was held at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club and included antiques, contemporary furnishings, and fine art. The collection was made up of the great amount of things that she has accumulated in her several homes in Indiana, Hawaii, Chicago, Santa Barbara, and her “La Quinta” estate.

Oprah Winfrey’s grand yard sale was sponsored by Kaminski Auctions, and for those who could not make it to the sale in Santa Barbara, she sold her possessions in an online auction.

The media mogul has always talked about simplifying and wants to be able live that way herself, at least to the best degree that she can. She discussed her decision to have the sale when saying “I’m trying not to be attached to things. I’m trying to live the life that I talk about, like not letting things define you. But it’s hard.”

  • 127 Yard Sale To Span Five States This Weekend

Anyone who loves a good find in a vintage shop or garage sale will undoubtedly be interested in the 127 Yard Sale, which spans five states and kicked off on Thursday.

The sale runs the length of U.S. 127 from Michigan to Alabama, with Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee caught in the middle. With 690 miles to cover, it’s officially the world’s largest yard sale. The site for the sale’s headquarters–which is located in Tennessee–says it “Americana at it’s best”.

“It is aptly titled The Worlds Longest Yard Sale! Every year individuals clean out their closets and stake out their front yards along the Hwy 127 corridor stretching over 690 miles from Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama. They band together as communities, in groups or as individuals and over a four-day weekend they welcome the onslaught of visitors from the North, South East and West. It is a mutual exchange of cultures with a common goal; to look, buy and sell! As you transverse the country roads, you will hear a collection of dialects, be privy to incredible stories related to the individuals and the items they sale and see a plethora of items that only your grandmother could love. Most importantly, I think most come to see the unusual and socialize. It is Americana at it’s best.”

Last year, several shoppers started their trek in West Unity, Ohio and it may prove to be a good jumping off point again this year.
