  • Conan O’Brien Becomes A Wrestler In WWE 2K14

Most of us aren’t cut out to be wrestlers. We don’t have the bulging biceps or the theatrics to pull it off. That’s why the games are so appealing – we can become the wrestler we always wanted to be.

Conan O’Brien discovers this truth in the return of Clueless Gamer as he reviews WWE 2K14. This is the first game in the franchise to not be made by THQ since the publisher went under in early 2013. Unlike some other Clueless Gamer reviews, WWE 2K14 is not a new game. This review was seemingly made just for laughs as Conan encounters his in-game wrestling persona.

Perhaps the best part of this particular bit is that Conan’s show can’t pay for any of the licensed music in the game so they have the national anthem on loop while playing. There’s nothing more American then dropkicking a guy in the face while the national anthem plays in the background.

If wrestling games are a little too new school for you, you should check out Conan’s playthrough of some classic Atrari 2600 games, including E.T.

  • WWE 2K14 Gets a New WrestleMania Mode

WWE 2K14 Gets a New WrestleMania Mode

2K Games and the WWE are throwing just about anything they can think of into the upcoming WWE 2K14. The game already features an Ultimate Warrior pre-order bonus, and 2K also recently revealed an Undertaker-themed collector’s edition featuring the “American Badass” version of the wrestler.

Today, 2K announced that WWE 2K14 will have a “30 Year of WrestleMania” mode. The mode is a single-player campaign that takes players through WWE history with classic WrestleMania matches. The 45 different matches include WrestleMania III’s Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, WrestleMania X8’s Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock, and last year’s WrestleMania XXVIII match up of The Rock vs. John Cena.

The wrestlers and the venues will change to reflect each era depicted in the WrestleMania mode. For example, the costume and ring entrance for The Rock will change to match his different persona from earlier WrestleMania matches to more recent ones. The game will also use filters to make earlier matches look era-specific.

The mode will also encourage players to recreate key portions of classic matches using “historical objectives.” For example, performing Hogan’s slam of Andre the Giant might unlock new content, including new playable characters or new costumes.

The entire roster reveal for the WrestleMania Mode will be announced on 2K’s Twitch.tv channel this coming Saturday, August 17 at 3:30 pm EDT. The reveal will be hosted by Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, and Damien Sandow.

  • WWE 2K14 Collector’s Edition to Feature “American Badass” Undertaker

Most recently, the WWE and 2K Games have been using The Rock and Ultimate Warrior to promote the upcoming WWE 2K14. This week, the game’s marketers are turning to yet another classic WWE star to promote the video game.

2K today announced the “Phenom Edition” of WWE 2K14. The premium-priced collector’s edition of the game features items related to Undertaker. Pre-orders for the edition are currently going for $100.

In addition to the game itself, the Phenom Edition comes with a tin coffin box for the game, an Undertaker-branded controller sticker, a copy of the first disc of WWE Undertaker – The Streak on DVD, and an art card autographed by Undertaker himself. In addition, fans will gain access to Undertaker’s “American Badass” persona in the game.

“The Deadman. The Lord of Darkness. The American Badass. The Phenom,” said Chris Snyder, a marketing director at 2K. “In every aspect of his career, Undertaker has commanded the admiration and respect of WWE fans and newcomers alike for more than two decades.

The Ultimate Warrior in-game pre-order bonus also applies to fans who pre-order the Phenom Edition.

  • WWE 2K14 Pre-Orders to Feature Ultimate Warrior

Pre-orders for last year’s “Attitude Era”-focused WWE ’13 came with heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson as a playable character. Though this year’s WWE 2K14 has The Rock as its cover wrestler, wrestling fans who pre-order the game will get a playable character from the golden days of the WWF.

2K Games announced today that pre-orders for WWE 2K14 will come with the Ultimate Warrior as a playable character. As part of its announcement, 2K released a quote from the Warrior himself, whose real name is Jim Hellwig:

“Immortality is inspiration, pure and simple,” said Hellwig. “An example to others that they, too, can do things larger than the life they are actually living, and Ultimate Warrior was the pure embodiment of this belief, in what has proven to be a very attention-getting and inspiring way. It was my good fortune to be his creator and performer, and I am humbled by all those fans who’ve not only kept his legacy alive, but deepened it over time. In WWE 2K14, Ultimate Warrior’s creed, ‘Always Believe,’ lives on.”

Hellwig also stars in a live action teaser trailer for the pre-order bonus. The slightly silly video sees Ultimate Warrior rampaging through 2K’s offices:

  • WWE 2K14: Rock Cover Revealed, People’s Trailer Released

2K Games and the WWE this week revealed the cover of WWE 2K14 on Monday Night Raw. The cover features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who recently lost the WWE Championship to John Cena at WrestleMania 29 back in April.

“I am exceptionally grateful to be chosen for the cover of WWE 2K14 and serve as the first cover Superstar under 2K’s leadership,” said The Rock. “I want the cover of WWE 2K14 to electrify the people. I want the artwork to stand out and set a new standard for all WWE video games from 2K, both today and in the future.”

In addition to the official cover art, 2K is holding a contest for original cover art, which will be included as an alternate cover in copies of WWE 2K14. The alternate covers can be created using WWE assets found at the 2K website. Fans can use the Twitter hashtag #WWE2K14Cover to promote their alternate covers.
