  • Coming Winter Storm Threatens Northeast After Pummeling Midwest

A coming Winter storm has some residents in the Northeast clamoring for shelter as holiday flights and other travel plans are being canceled in anticipation of what could be a major snow storm. The storm has already flexed its might by dumping upwards of 13 inches of snow in some locations in Arkansas.

The Weather Channel reports that Winter Storm Euclid is slowly moving towards the Northeast after dumping snow, rain or both across much of the Midwest and South. To further exacerbate the situation, the storm was responsible for a number of tornadoes across the South as well. There have been three confirmed deaths so far, but none were caused outright from the tornadoes. In the Midwest, Euclid dumped anywhere between three and 13 inches of snow.

It’s being reported that 600 flights have been delayed or canceled as the storm moves Northeast. There’s also plenty of snow to be had as The Weather Channel reports that “Blizzard warnings stretch for 730 continuous miles.” Those in the path of the storm can expect up to a foot of snow.

Those in the path of the storm should stay inside and refrain from traveling. It would also be wise to check on any neighbors and their heating situation. Many deaths during Winter storms can be attributed to the heat going out in a house.

  • YouTube Replaces Winter With The Ski Channel

YouTube Replaces Winter With The Ski Channel

I think we can all agree by this point that Winter 2012 forgot that it had some place to be this year in the western hemisphere, so let us welcome the timely arrival of Spring 2012. In case you’re still feeling sore about being stood up by winter, though, YouTube announced today the creation of a new channel, The Ski Channel, your one-stop fix for all things wintery white with cool runnings.

In order to avoid any confusion here, The Ski Channel is an existing television network and multi-media platform that offers focused coverage on mountain sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and the such. The YouTube channel for The Ski Channel is mostly just an extension of that network’s outreach into social media. The Ski Channel team partnered with Epic Planks, crafters of premium skis and handmade snowboards, to create a new series featured on the channel, Germination, which showcases some of the best up-and-coming super shredders from around the world. The first episode, ‘A Taste of Norway,’ is below.

Additionally, here are some other offerings from The Ski Channel so, if you like what you see, you’ll probably find more likable videos over at the site.

In addition to videos, the YouTube channel also contains links to different parts of The Ski Channel’s site, such as profiles on notable athletes, a resort rater, upcoming events, and other mountain sports-related news. So really, even when you’re entrenched in the dog days of summer, snow-wishers can retreat to this new YouTube channel to get your wintry fix.

  • Groundhog’s Day: Twitter Reacts

    Groundhog’s Day: Twitter Reacts

So we see the shadow 6 more weeks of winter, we don’t see the shadow Spring’s around the corner. Thanks, groundhog, you’re totally reliable. If you actually believe Phil the groundhog can predict weather, go to The WeatherChannel.com and learn how weather works. He’s just an animal, but apparently hundreds of people still want to gather together at Gobblers Knob (laughs to self) to see the guy pop out of his hole, looking all surprised to see all those people gathered around him like they’re there to repossess his property.

Even with accurate weather radar and career meteorologists working hard ever day to bring you somewhat reliable weather, folks still have to participate in this annual tradition. So now that the guy has popped out and “predicted” an early spring, twitter is popping and bouncing like a computer screen full of popcorn with buzz.

So with Winter nearly over are you ready for Spring or are you a fan of snow, cold weather and frostbite? Let us know your opinions on Spring, Winter and Groundhog’s Day in the comments.
