  • Geena Davis Wants To Return For ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel But Nobody Is Asking Her Yet

The writer of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice sequel, Seth Grahame-Smith, said that the much anticipated series would be taking place in present day, which leaves people to wonder whether new actors will be cast or the old ones will remain.

Geena Davis, who played the role of the female ghost, Barbara Maitland, expressed her interest in returning for the sequel.

“I did hear that it’s really happening. No one’s talked to me about it. I would love to! That was one of my favorite movies, too… but ghosts probably don’t age, and it’s going to be 30 years now. Of course, I haven’t aged, but I think Alec Baldwin maybe has aged, perhaps,” Davis said. Alec Baldwin, who played Barbara’s husband Adam Maitland, has not been approached about the sequel either.

But a few months ago, Winona Ryder, who played the role of Lydia Deetz in the original series, confirmed that she would be part of the sequel. “Um, I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton did this interview – like, it was very hush hush, top secret… and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah we’re doing it and Winona’s going to be in it,’” Ryder said.

Reportedly, Michael Keaton, who was also in the original series, would be coming back.

Although Davis has not been approached for the role, a lot could happen as filming has not begun yet. Smith only revealed that there would be less of the original Beetlejuice that could be expected in the sequel.

According to reports, filming might start around the end of 2015 but a 2016 release date is uncertain. Tim Burton will be focusing his time on the film adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which is slated to be released next year.

  • Winona Ryder Asked To Summon Beetlejuice In Airports

Winona Ryder said recently that a sequel to her ’80s hit Beetlejuice is definitely in the works, and talked a bit about how she’s still instantly tied to the film when fans see her out.

Ryder said that director Tim Burton had been going back and forth on whether the movie would happen but mentioned in a recent interview that it was in the works and that she was going to star.

“I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview. Like, it was very hush-hush top secret, ‘Oh I don’t know, it might happen, I don’t know’. And then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s gonna be in it’ … I mean if he said it then I can,” Winona said.

Ryder starred in the original 1988 film as Lydia, a teen who moves into a haunted house against her wishes and ends up bonding with the ghosts (a married couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis). Beetlejuice was played by Michael Keeton, and Tim Burton has said that he can’t see anyone else playing the over-the-top “Ghost With The Most”.

“There’s only one Beetlejuice and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever … I miss that character. There’s something cathartic and amazing about it,” Burton said.

Winona Ryder has quite a lot on her plate right now, between an HBO miniseries called Show Me a Hero and a Netflix original series, Montauk, but it sounds like if Burton calls, she’ll be there. That’s great news for fans of the original movie, but right now there’s nothing set in stone. For Ryder, the film will always be a touchstone for her fans, who still ask her do say one of the most famous lines from the film: “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!” Ryder says the requests have even come from customs officers at airports.

“It’s better than a strip search or Taser,” Winona said.

  • Winona Ryder Confident About ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel

Great news for the Beetlejuice fans who are wondering what happened to the characters of the film. Winona Ryder confirmed that a sequel to Beetlejuice is finally happening.

Ryder made the announcement when she appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday to promote her new project Experimenter.

“I think I can confirm it,” said Ryder. “It was very hush-hush top secret … but then (Tim Burton) was doing some press for ‘Big Eyes’ and and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it.’ … If he said it, I can say it.”

The Experimenter actress confirmed the news but admitted she did not know much of the details although Tim Burton is now working on it.

Burton, in an interview last December disclosed the possibility of a part two for Beetlejuice and was quoted saying that a follow-up is “closer than ever”. He also added that Michael Keaton will be in it.

“There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever,” Burton shared. “I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”

Ryder also revealed that she still gets asked by some people to say “Beetlejuice” three times. “I have not been let through security unless I said (Beetlejuice),” the actress said laughingly while referring to requests made by fans of the movie in the TSA whenever she passes through airport security.

It has been more than 27 years since the film was shown in theaters and fans are excited about how “part two” will turn out. Will the sequel get the new generation to chant “Beetlejuice”?

  • Winona Ryder Show, “Show Me A Hero”, To Be Aired In Australia

Winona Ryder is picking up some speed in her career lately.

The show stars Winona Ryder and is created by David Simon of Treme and The Wire and directed by Paul Haggis of Crash.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj5Nt-HoBhw

On HBO’s website the show is described as a six-part miniseries based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin.

It is explained that the show “explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, NY.”

It goes on to say, “In an America generations removed from the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor (Oscar Isaac) of a mid-sized city is faced with a federal court order to build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town.”

It continues, “His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.”

    Sounds interesting!

Winona Ryder‘s name is also coming to the surface again as yet another remake of Little Women gets ready to begin production.

Winona Ryder starred in the 1994 remake of Little Women alongside Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, and Christian Bale.

NCIS actor Michael Weatherly and writer Alexis Jolly are reportedly on board for the project. The new version is described as a “hyper-stylized, gritty adaptation” of Louisa May Alcott’s iconic 1868 novel.

The new version will still follow the lives of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy but this time in dystopian Philadelphia. They come together to survive, unravel a conspiracy, oh, and also kill each other.

    That also sounds interesting!

What do you think of Winona Ryder’s new show? Will you give it a shot?

Winona Ryder Makes Her Way To ‘Supernatural’ Netflix Series

The 43-year-old actress Winona Ryder will soon make her Netflix debut. Coming 2016, Ryder will be starring in an untitled supernatural series.

Variety has confirmed that Ryder will star as a regular cast member in the mystery series. This will mark Ryder’s very first regular role on TV.

Ryder has briefly dabbled in television over the past few years. She has been a guest on TV shows such as Friends, Drunk History and Strangers with Candy. However, she is best known for starring in movies like Beetlejuice, Girl Interrupted, Heathers and Mermaids.

The eight one-hour episode series was previously titled Montauk. The show is set in the 80’s in a Long Island beach town where Ryder will be playing the mother of a two-year-old boy who vanishes without a trace. Though details are limited, top-secret government experiments and a creepy girl are involved.

Ryder will play the character of Joyce who will endure great adversity to rescue her son from supernatural forces.

TV Wise says Joyce will unexpectedly find “a strength she never knew she had in the wake of her son’s disappearance.”

EW confirmed that Ryder will be joined by State of Affairs and The Newsroom alum David Harbour. Harbour will be cast as the town’s police chief.

Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will executive produce the series. The Wayward Pines creators Matt and Ross Duffer have written and will direct the series so viewers can expect vibes similar to X-Files.

According to a statement released by Netflix’s vice president Cindy Holland, the Duffer brothers were assigned to work on the series since they have something unique to offer for the show.

Winona Ryder to Star in New Supernatural Netflix Drama Series Set in 1980s

Winona Ryder will star in a new supernatural drama series for Netflix set in the 1980s.

This will be a first for Winona Ryder, best known for her turns in Reality Bites and Girl, Interrupted, who has yet to star as a regular in a TV series.

In the Montauk-set drama, Winona Ryder will play a working-class single mom whose two-year-old son mysteriously disappears.

The as of yet untitled series hails from brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, who most recently worked as writers/producers on the Fox series, Wayward Pines.

According to Time, the plot will feature supernatural overtones as family, friends and cops try to uncover the truth about the what happened to the boy.

Who’s excited to see Winona Ryder hit the big screen in what promises to be a creepy new show on Netflix?

  • Michael Keaton: ‘Birdman’ Actor Up for ‘Beetlejuice’ Remake

Michael Keaton has made news in recent weeks for his role in Birdman. In fact, the role earned the actor a Golden Globe. But it’s Beetlejuice–his film from back in 1988–that has the actor excited at the moment. Michael Keaton starred as ‘a manic, demented spirit,’ alongside costars Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis in the Tim Burton film.

Burton is “unique, and that’s not a word you can apply to many people,” Keaton said during a recent interview with People magazine. “And also original–certainly not a word you can apply to many people. He is both of those things and also an artist.”

Keaton explained that when unveiling the role, Burton “saw the bigger picture” but “couldn’t articulate the visuals he saw. It wasn’t quite there yet [but] because he’d given me a couple things to think about, I said, ‘Give me a day.’”

Tim Burton recently admitted that there is a script written and ready to roll for a Beetlejuice sequel (actually Burton doesn’t want to call it a sequel) and that he would love to work with Michael Keaton once again.

Will Michael Keaton sign on for the role?

“I hope,” he said. “We don’t know yet.”

It certainly sounds like there must be lots to iron out before filming for a Beetlejuice sequel might get underway, but fans of the original are no doubt extremely excited just to learn that such a film is even a possibility. Beetlejuice had a cult following, and no one but Michael Keaton could possibly play the lead role.

Were you a Beetlejuice fan? Could you see an older Michael Keaton once again wearing the black and white striped suit and playing the role of that ‘manic, demented spirit’ once again? Do you suppose Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Winona Ryder will be asked to sign on, too?

  • Reality Bites Turned 20 Years Old Yesterday

If you’re anything like me, you don’t think about your age much or how old you’re getting.

But sometimes something will sneak up on you and remind you that you’re nowhere near the age of 18, like when you notice that all of your favorite sports figures as a kid are now either commentators or coaches, and they all look old.

Or when the media stops talking about the things that your generation was in to, like certain songs or trends, because most times the general public isn’t interested in what was hot 15 years ago, they want to know what’s hot now, and what the Millennials are in to.

However, every now and then the press will mark a certain anniversary to show how much time has passed and to also give folks a reminder of how old they are, which isn’t the best news to hear all the time. It happened recently when everyone started talking about The Dukes of Hazzards turning 35 years old.

And now people are talking about another anniversary for the 90s movie Reality Bites. Believe it or not, it was 20 years ago that many of us saw a young and cool looking Ethan Hawke romance a ridiculously cute Winona Ryder. The film also starred Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, and Steve Zahn.

Unless you don’t remember, the movie focuses on a bunch of twenty-somethings all trying to find themselves personally and professionally after college, and they spend much of the film talking about relationships and trying to do things vastly different from their parents’ generation.

Initially, the film didn’t do so well, only grossing $5.1 million dollars in its opening week. But after a month and a half, it raked in $18.3 million dollars, which far exceed the $11 million it took to make the film.

Ben Stiller, who directed Reality Bites and also played the character Michael Grates, said there’s a good chance the film will become a television show, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

“I want to make sure it feels right before we actually go through with it,” said Stiller, when he was asked if the TV show is a definite or not.

“But the reason I thought it was worth exploring was I feel like there’s sort of a parallel situation happening now, in terms of the economic climate that young people are coming out to, but it’s also changed so much in terms of how people communicate and technology and social media, so it really is like looking back into a little bit of a time capsule, even though it’s only been twenty years.”

  • Winona Ryder Was Bullied, Then Homeschooled

Winona Ryder is known for a lot of things. Being the original pixie cut rebel, the shocking shoplifting incident of 2001, and being a 90’s poster girl for Generation X angst (remember “Reality Bites”? Of course you do.). Now she can add bullying victim to her list.

Winona Ryder recently opened up about a bulllying incident in Junior High School that actually went on to change her life. She had a short haircut at the time, and a group of boys thought she was a gay boy, according to ABC.

“I remember the halls were empty and these kids started shouting ‘faggot,’ and I didn’t think they were talking to me,” she said. “Walking home after leaving the nurse’s office — and I’ve never talked about this — I remember pressing on the bandage because I wanted it to look more dramatic. I had this inner monologue going of Humphrey Bogart, like, ‘being roughed up!’ I was pretending I was in some gangster movie. It was oddly my way of dealing with it, because if I didn’t, I probably would have been really scared.”

After the terrifying incident, Winona was homeschooled, which freed up her time so that she was able to attend classes at the American Conservatory Theater in San Fransisco. While she was there, she was discovered, and the rest is history!

“Had I not been homeschooled, I would not have been able to go,” she said. “It’s almost weird fate that it happened that way.”

From there, Ryder went on to receive a Golden Globe in 1993, and currently has three Oscar nominations to brag about. After her arrest for the above-mentioned 2001 shoplifting, her career in movies went down the tubes. But, in 2010, it had a revival with her role in the smash, “Black Swan”. Now she is enjoying a nice comeback in the upcoming releases, “Homefront“, which comes out this month, and “Divergent”, which is slated to be released in March of next year.

  • Winona Ryder Bullied In Jr. High School

Winona Ryder recently sat down with V Magazine to talk about her up-coming biker chick role in the movie, “Homefront“. She also opened up about her past, and how she was mistaken for a boy and was gay bashed by a group of young boys during her time at Kenilworth Junior High School In Petaluma, California. She also opened up about her past, and how she was mistaken for a boy and was gay bashed by a group of young boys during her time at Kenilworth Junior High School In Petaluma, California.

“The lore! That did happen,” she told the magazine. “I was obsessed with Bugsy Malone and had cut my hair short. I remember the halls were empty and these kids started shouting ‘faggot,’ and I didn’t think they were talking to me. Walking home after leaving the nurse’s office—and I’ve never talked about this—I remember pressing on the bandage because I wanted it to look more dramatic. I had this inner monologue going of Humphrey Bogart, like, ‘being roughed up!’ I was pretending I was in some gangster movie. It was oddly my way of dealing with it, because if I didn’t, I probably would have been really scared.”

After the assault, Ryder dropped out of school and proceeded to be home schooled by her mother. Her parents enrolled her in the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, and that is where she got her big break and was cast in her first movie, “Lucas”. Ryder says it was fate that those boys attacked her that day. “Had I not been homeschooled I would not have been able to go. It’s almost weird fate that it happened that way.”

Ryder has since made a name for herself in the film industry, starring in over 50 films. She says she sometimes still struggles in the industry and trying to stay relevant.

“It used to be that you commit to something and then basically you spend your year doing that. Now there’s a constant conversation of how you have to keep working in order to remind people that you’re around. You have to work to be relevant. If you don’t then people will forget and the studios won’t want you because they won’t remember the last thing you did that made money,” she said.

  • Winona Ryder Talks Biker Chick Role

Winona Ryder Talks Biker Chick Role

Winona Ryder sat down recently for an interview with V Magazine and talked a bit about her upcoming role in “Homefront”, which she stars in with James Franco. The film is a pretty big departure for her, but she embraced it after, as she says, following her heart.

“It’s all about knowing when to listen to that conversation and—without sounding really hokey—when to tune it out and follow your heart. I was fired from a movie because I did Heathers! I was cast in a movie and the director saw an advance screening and was offended by it and fired me. It wasn’t until years later that it became more appreciated.”

Ryder–whose career has been somewhat low-key in recent years–has had an eclectic resume since she started acting. She can do everything from a romantic comedy (“Reality Bites”, a very loose interpretation of that genre) to a gothic horror “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and we believe whatever she says, because she’s just that good. Her role in “Homefront” is going to push the way viewers see her.

“She’s this woman who had been in a biker gang, and that is a hard-core scene,” Ryder said of her character. “What’s creepy is that she’s sober and she’s running this drug operation with James Franco’s character, and to me it’s the epitome of evil, in a weird way. If it’s possible to be a victim and be diabolical at the same time, I had never explored that. There was also a slightly campy, arm-candy element to her that appealed to me. She’s such a complete CHICK. She’s what you think of when you hear the words ‘biker chick.’”
