  • “Days of Our Lives” to Cast New Actress in Abigail Deveraux Role, Kate Mansi Leaving

Days of Our Lives is reportedly hiring a new actress to fill the shoes of Kate Mansi, who is leaving the daytime drama. Known for her lengthy role as Salem favorite Abigail Deveraux, Days of Our Lives fans can relax knowing Abby won’t be killed off, but will simply be replaced by a new face.

Right now on Days of Our Lives, Abigail Deveraux is front and center in the soap opera’s story line. She recently gave birth to baby Thomas after being held hostage by her ex, Ben, in a remote cabin. Since returning to Salem, Abby learned her baby isn’t Ben’s but rather he is Chad DiMera’s instead. The intense encounters between Abby and Billy Flynn’s Chad have viewers wondering if a romance will blossom or if Chad will spontaneously combust and disappear into Days of Our Lives oblivion.

Several characters have done just that as of late. Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) returned to Days of Our Lives just long enough to rekindle his marriage to Hope Brady–only to die of cancer before Christmas. Dr. Daniel Jonas (played by Sean Christian), son of Maggie Horton Kiriakis, is presently hooked up to life support following a tragic car crash, waiting to have his organs harvested.

Fortunately Abigail Deveraux won’t go the way of Bo Brady and Daniel Jonas, but it’s never easy for fans to adapt to a new actor playing an old character.

No word has yet been released about who will play Abby once Kate Mansi leaves Days of Our Lives, so fans will have to simply watch and wait.

Kate Mansi has filmed enough footage to continue her role as Abby until May or June. That means this summer on Days of Our Lives, the new Abigail Deveraux will make her debut.

What’s your take on a new actor playing an old role? It didn’t work so well on Days of Our Lives when Will Horton’s original actor left and a new replacement resumed his role.

Might this mark the beginning of the end of Abby on Days of Our Lives?

  • Alison Sweeney Confirms Sami Brady Will Return to ‘Days of Our Lives’

Alison Sweeney has confirmed that Sami Brady will return to Days of Our Lives. However lest you jump for joy about Sami Brady once again becoming a permanent fixture in Salem, it sounds like she’s only returning for the show’s 50th anniversary celebration, set to air later in 2015.

When Sweeney left Days of Our Lives in December, she made it clear she was always open to returning. She didn’t elaborate, however, on whether that return would be for good or simply for a quick visit in Salem.

While confirmation about Alison Sweeney returning to Days didn’t come in the form of a statement, it did come in the form of an Instagram photo she shared with her followers.

In that photo, Sweeney–also host of The Biggest Loser–is holding a script. That script is very clearly labeled, “Ali/Sami” at the top.

“Guess what?! I get to be a part of celebrating #days50 !!! So thrilled!!!” Alison Sweeney captioned the post.

What do you expect Sami Brady will do when she returns to Salem and learns that Lucas Horton (just one of her ex-husbands, and her son Will Horton’s father) has taken up with Adrienne Kiriakis (played by Judi Evans) even though Adrienne is still married to Justin?

Alison Sweeney was a mainstay on Days of Our Lives, and most fans will say the show simply isn’t the same without her.

Are you a Days of Our Lives fans? Will you now be counting the days until Alison Sweeney (as Sami Brady) makes her return to the daytime drama?

  • ‘Days of Our Lives’ Actor Freddie Smith: Probation

Days of Our Lives actor Freddie Smith–known for his role as Will Horton’s husband Sonny Kiriakis–was involved in a serious car accident back in October, that left his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit, critically injured. Smith was charged with driving under the influence at the time of the crash. It was in Kingsville Township, Ohio, that the actor lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and flipped the car. Tabit was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Freddie Smith sustained minor injuries.

It was back in December that the Days of Our Lives actor pleaded guilty for driving under the influence, as well as to felony vehicular assault. This past Wednesday, he apologized in court for his crimes, and was sentenced to two years’ probation.

In addition to probation, Freddie Smith must pay $1,400 in fines, pass a driver’s intervention class, and speak to students in every high school in Ashtabula County, Ohio, of the perils of drinking and driving. He has lost his license to drive for one year.

“I understand it didn’t just affect me, but everyone,” Smith said in court. “I will never ever drive and drink again. It was a mistake. I am grateful Alyssa (Tabit) and I are alive and she’s going to be OK.”

There was no new information on Alyssa Tabit’s condition, other than word that she is ‘healing.’ At the time of the crash she was in critical condition. She underwent surgery shortly thereafter. Tabit’s mother spoke out in defense of the Days of Our Lives actor in court on Wednesday.

“I ask that you not send Freddie to prison; he made a huge mistake, a major life lesson for him,” she said. “He’s been right there to help her.”

Tabit’s mother said Alyssa also would have been in court to support Freddie Smith, but had a doctor’s appointment in North Hollywood, California, where the couple lives. The two were attending a wedding in Ohio when the crash took place.

Hopefully the notoriety Freddie Smith has from starring on Days of Our Lives will prompt the high school students he speaks with to take him seriously. Hopefully Smith realizes how fortunate he is that he and his girlfriend are alive to see him serve his probation and the other mandates that accompany it.

Freddie Smith–in his role as Sonny Kiriakis–undergoes surgery following a beating, in the following Days of Our Lives clip.
