Katie Holmes Plays a Joke on Everyone

Katie Holmes brought her designer Zac Posen to the Met Gala ball as her date for the evening. When you bring your designer as your plus-one, he is going to make damn sure you look stunning. The theme for the evening was “China: Through The Looking Glass.”

But Katie Holmes had another trick up her sleeve for the evening — a nifty trick indeed, since she went sleeveless for the evening.

Katie Holmes and hairstylist DJ Quintero plotted out a series of peeks at her look for the evening that got people talking well before she hit the red carpet at the event. The whole thing started with a pair of Instagram posts from Holes and Quintero that showed her about to get her hair chopped.

“Chop Chop! #MetGala #BTS BIG transformation,” Quintero’s caption read.

Katie Holmes’ caption simply said: “Dare me….. #metball”

It looked like Katie Holmes was all set to lose her long locks for the ball.

But the pair went even further, posting a video that showed Holmes in silhouette with the gown and hair style that she would later have at the ball.

And when Katie Holmes made her entrance, her hair and gown turned heads.

The reaction was impressive. Entertainment Tonight declared that Katie Holmes “owns the bob. The bob is Katie’s now.”

But only later did the truth come out. Everyone had fallen for a ruse. The hairdo was a wig. Holmes’ long, wavy locks were tucked safely underneath. Her style for the night was intended as an homage to Anna May Wong, a Chinese-American movie star.

  • Katie Holmes Rocks A Short Bob At Met Gala

    Did she or didn’t she?

Katie Holmes made her fans guess whether or not she really chopped her long locks when she arrived at the Met Gala rocking a very short, angular bob.

A series of Instagram pics posted by Holmes and her hairstylist DJ Quintero earlier in the day showed the actress apparently getting her lush, dark brown tresses cut.

One photo showed the actress sitting, with her stylist holding his scissors against his hair, apparently getting ready to snip it all off.

“Chop Chop! #MetGala #BTS BIG transformation,” Quintero captioned the photo.

The 36-year-old Holmes and her date for the night, designer Zac Posen, also posted a big reveal video of her new short hairdo and her Zac Posen gown.

Holmes admittedly looked stunning in her blunt bob. The angular cut perfectly framed her face and she was really rocking the bangs.

But as it turns out, Miss Meadows didn’t really cut her hair. It was actually a wig that she wore as homage to Anna May Wong, a Chinese-American movie star known for sporting that style.

It’s also safe to say that Holmes won’t be landing in the worst dressed list this year. The Woman in Gold actress made a fashion faux pas at last year’s Met gala when she donned a voluminous yellow gown that was reminiscent of Belle’s gown in Beauty and the Beast.

But Posen made sure that Holmes’ attire for the evening would totally wash away memories of that yellow dress. Her long blue gown literally sparkled and was ringed with beaded roses. The side cutouts were eye catching and showed just the right amount of skin.

And in keeping with this year’s theme of China: Through The Looking Glass, Posen’s design showcased embroidery shaped like a ruyi scepter. The distinct cloud shape is said to mean “as you wish” in Chinese.
