  • Kris Jenner Fears Her Son Rob May Die Due To 100-Pound Weight Gain

Kris Jenner’s fears over her son Rob came to light in the latest episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The Kardashian matriarch appears to finally be at the end of her rope when it comes to Rob and decided that an intervention is in order and enlists the help of an expert.

It was during the family meeting that she voiced her fears about Rob’s weight gain and depression to an “expert” (whose face, it must be pointed out, is never seen nor his credentials ever mentioned).

According to Kris, the 28-year-old Rob used to be so athletic but has ballooned to more than 100 pounds in the last year. He also has become a recluse – withdrawing from his family, not attending family events (he was notably a no-show during Kim’s wedding to Kanye West) and not responding to calls and letters from his mom and sisters.

“I can’t take it anymore. I just kept thinking it was going to go away and he would figure it out on his own, but he’s not…I feel like if I don’t help him do something drastic, that he’s going to die,” the worried mom confessed tearfully on camera.

Unfortunately, the intervention didn’t go as planned. When the team of experts the mystery man brought along arrived at Khloe’s house, Rob locked himself in his room and was notably angry when he called his sister.

This refusal to accept help has Kim wanting to pull out the really tough love card. She tells her sisters that their constant coddling of Rob is “pathetic” and says they have to tell him that “You are cut off financially, not taken care of whatsoever, so either go now or accept our help.”

While the plan might be a legitimate last resort to take, it’s obviously not going to work unless everyone is onboard.

The situation ended with Rob calling Kris, who allowed him to stay at her home.

“I cry myself to sleep literally every night worrying about [Rob],” Kris admitted. “It’s breaking my heart.”

  • Yasmine Bleeth: ‘Baywatch’ Babe’s Enormous Weight Gain Leaves Her Nearly Unrecognizable

Yasmine Bleeth made a name for herself when she joined the cast of Baywatch alongside David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. During her time one the show, she became a sex symbol overnight. However, it didn’t last long. She was kicked off the show after three years because of her drug abuse.

Despite appearing in several short-lived TV shows, Bleeth practically disappeared from the public eye. Until now, that is. Photos have surfaced of Bleeth hanging out at the beach with her husband and friends. The former Baywatch babe gained a lot of weight and was unrecognizable in the photos.

Bleeth ditched her famous red swimsuit and opted instead to wear loose-fitting pants and and a black long-sleeved shirt. She was there to support her husband, Paul Cerrito, as he took part in the 55th Annual Penguin Plunge, where people brave the icy waters to celebrate the start of the New Year. Bleeth’s friend and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Eileen Davidson documented the event.

Baywatch producer, Douglas Schwartz, was interviewed by Esquire back in 2012. In the interview, Schwartz talked about their problems with Bleeth and why she was fired from the show.

“We had one issue with Yasmine Bleeth, who was doing drugs at the time,” he recalled. “And so we were dealing with Yasmine not showing up and having difficulties, again with men. That’s why we let Yasmine go off the show: because it was too difficult to deal with her after a while.”

In November 2001, Bleeth checked herself into the world-renowned Promises rehabilitation center in Malibu. However, two weeks after being released from rehab, Bleeth was arrested in Detroit after driving into a median while high on cocaine. According to Bleeth, this became a turning point in her life and she decided to clean up her act.

Bleeth married Cerrito, who she met in rehab, back in 2004.

  • Weight-Loss Programs For The New Year? Stick With This Tried And True Method

As we approach 2015, many weight-loss programs are due to make millions (if not billions) of dollars.

After all, the new year is a time when a number of Americans try and meet long-standing weight loss goals.

“This year, I am going to drop those pesky pounds!” becomes a rallying cry.

At least until February, about the time many people give up their weight loss goals.

Although a number of weight-loss programs are touted as “successful”, the problem for many people has never been about losing weight.

The trick to TRULY successful weight loss is keeping the weight off for good.

The dreaded “yo-yo diet” is what happens when someone loses and gains weight repeatedly.

Yo-yoing often occurs when someone repeatedly tries (and fails) to lose weight. This form of weight loss is not good for the body.

    Unfortunately, it’s very common.

Breaking the cycle of disappointment when it comes to weight loss isn’t easy, but it IS possible.

The key to long term weight loss is understanding that weight gained and lost is determined by your calorie intake/output ratio.

Millions of dollars could be saved if individuals understood that all they REALLY need to do in order to lose weight is pay close attention to their calories.

You cannot spend a few weeks on a low-calorie diet, lose weight, and then go back to eating all the foods that contributed to your weight gain in the first place.

You cannot eat more calories than you burn each day and expect to maintain your weight loss.

That’s simply not how long-term weight loss works.

You don’t have to agonize over what weight-loss program to try next, nor how much money you intend to spend.

Save yourself a lot of time, energy, and money by sticking to these simple rules for your weight-loss goals:

1.) Know how many calories you need to maintain your current weight and then eat less than that total.

2.) Add weight loss-friendly foods to your diet.

    3.) Drink lots of water.

    4.) Weigh yourself daily.

5.) Get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week.

Remember: Weight-loss programs are about making money. These programs will say whatever is necessary to separate you from said money.

No one is going to tell you that you can lose weight and keep it off on your own if there is a way they can convince you to give them your hard-earned cash while NOT giving you long-term results.

In order to keep the weight off for good, you must pay close attention to calories burned and calories ingested.

That’s really all there is to weight loss (or weight gain).

  • Hayden Panettiere Shares Her Pregnancy Weight Gain

Hayden Panettiere is a soon-to-be mom, and is revealing details about her pregnancy that most women tend to avoid.

While chatting with Hello! magazine, Hayden, who is engaged to Wladimir Klitschko, 38, admitted that she has gained 40 pounds since she has been pregnant.

“And the worst part is that my feet are still size five and they’re going, ‘What’s going on with all this weight?’ They’re about to snap from underneath me with the strain,” Hayden, 25, explained.

“I’m still quite muscular, so if you’re running around carrying 40 pounds of extra weight, you’re going to build extra muscle,” she added, estimating that she currently weighs approximately 145 pounds.

Panettiere doesn’t seem to mind the weight gain, and can’t wait to welcome her baby girl in December.

“I’m so ready to hold my baby girl—I’m going to be a very hands on mom,” she said. “I’m thrilled that I am having a girl first because I feel like I know a lot about raising a strong woman. I feel very empowered myself and I think my daughter will, too.”

And while she can’t wait to become Mrs. Klitschko, Hayden says the wedding will have to be put on hold for now. “I’ll tell you one thing for sure: I am not walking down the aisle 40 pounds heavier than usual in a wedding dress with a huge pregnancy belly stitched in,” she said. “Not happening.”

  • Aishwarya Rai Sheds Baby Weight, Director Tweets

Not only has 40-year old Aishwarya Rai, also known as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, established herself as a leading actress in Bollywood and Indian film, the 1994 winner of Miss India World also does her own stunts.

Rai last appeared in Sanjay Gupta’s film Guzaarish in 2010, in which she played a nurse caring for a quadriplegic with whom she falls in love. She was nominated for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

Now, after four years of maternity leave from her acting career, Rai is in the process of making Gupta’s new film, Jazzba. However, despite her comeback, this has not seemed to keep her critics at bay.

Like many women do after giving birth, Rai gained a bit of weight. At the 65th Cannes Film Festival in 2012, the public was not satisfied with the speed at which she losing weight, comparing her to others in Bollywood and Hollywood who got in shape faster than Rai. Since then, fans and critics have both continued to talk about it.

Finally Gupta, who was tired of the talk, took to Twitter to silence the chatter.

The photo was taken on Saturday when Rai arrived in Jaipur with her daughter to attend the Kabaddi match of her husband Abhishek Bachchan’s team Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Rai has been married to to fellow actor Bachchan since April 20, 2007. They first met while filming Dhoom 2. Their relationship is often described as being more famous than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or Brangelina.

Immediately following the completion of Jazzba, Gupta will also be directing Rai’s husband in the film Khottey Sikkay.

Jazzba will be showcased at the Cannes film festival in 2015.

  • Probiotics Used To Inhibit Weight Gain: Study

Researchers at Vanderbilt University have utilized bacteria that produce a therapeutic compound in the gut to inhibit weight gain, insulin resistance, and other negative effects of a high-fat diet in mice, according to redOrbit.

The team used a safe bacterial strain called E. coli Nissle 1917, which has been used as probiotic treatment for diarrhea since its discovery nearly 100 years ago.

They genetically modified the strain to produce a liquid compound called NAPE, which is normally synthesized in the small intestine in response to feeding. NAPE is rapidly converted to NAE, a compound that reduces both food intake and weight gain.

“NAPE seemed like a great compound to try — since it’s something that the host normally produces,” senior researcher Sean Davies said.

The researchers added NAPE-producing bacteria to the drinking water of a group of mice that ate a high-fat diet for eight weeks. Mice that received the NAPE-producing bacteria had lower food intake, body fat, insulin resistance, and fatty liver when compared to a group of mice receiving the control bacteria.

Researchers found that the protective effects of the NAPE-producing bacteria lasted for as long as four weeks after the bacteria was removed from the drinking water. And even after 12 weeks, the mice that received the NAPE-producing bacteria strain had much lower body weight and body fat when compared to the control mice.

“We still haven’t achieved our ultimate goal, which would be to do one treatment and then never have to administer the bacteria again,” Davies said. “Six weeks is pretty long to have active bacteria, and the animals are still less obese 12 weeks out.

“This paper provides a proof of concept. Clearly, we can get enough bacteria to persist in the gut and have a sustained effect. We would like for that effect to last longer.”

Davies has had a long-standing interest in using probiotic bacteria to deliver drugs to the gut in a sustained manner, eliminating the need for pharmaceutical drugs that treat chronic illnesses. In 2007, he received a National Institutes of Health Director’s New Innovator Award to pursue his idea.

  • Valerie Bertinelli Dishes On Weight Gain

Valerie Bertinelli admits she has gained back a lot of the 40 pounds she lost while serving as Jenny Craig spokesperson back in 2012. She also says she shouldn’t feel public shame over the gain. The Hot in Cleveland star appeared as a guest of The View on Wednesday, and explained the recent unpleasant ordeal.

“Because I broke my foot three months ago and I’ve not been able to work out, the weight starts to creep up,” she told The View co-hosts. “Then, I started thinking, ‘Why do I feel so much shame?’ Because the cameras are on me? Because the paparazzi can’t wait to get a picture of me looking like I’ve gained a few pounds. It’s like, we have to take the shame out of it.”

The former One Day at A Time star says as she felt the weight slowly creep back on she started to panic.

“It started to panic me and panic me. And then I thought, ‘Well, wait a minute. This is my body. I’m almost 54. I broke my foot, I haven’t been able to move.’”

Bertinelli shared the following with her Twitter followers.

Valerie only recently went back to the gym since being warned following her injury about doing anything to potentially raise her heart rate.

“I’m back in the gym and ready to go,” she said.

Valerie Bertinelli has no intention whatsoever of starving herself either. She will lose the weight slowly, the way it should come off.

She shared the following tweets with regard to her recent weight gain.

“I still like to eat, and I’m going to eat,” she said.

She also added, “We all need to give each other a break, especially women. Let’s leave each other alone.”

Oh, definitely. Valerie Bertinelli makes an excellent point here. And it’s not only women either. Even men can fall into feelings of fear and helplessness when carrying a few too many pounds.

Kudos to the Hot in Cleveland star for speaking her mind and sticking to her guns.

  • Vanessa Hudgens Tries To Be “As Ugly As Possible”

Hollywood is buzzing over Vanessa Hudgens latest dramatic movie, Gimme Shelter, opening next weekend. The movie stars Hudgens as Apple, a pregnant 16-year-old who finds solace in a suburban shelter. The 24-year-old star recently discussed the role and the incredible transformation she took for this character – namely, a 15 pound weight gain and cutting off all her hair.

“It was really fun. because its so rare that you get to do that,” she told E! News in an interview. “I put on 15 pounds, ate whatever I wanted. I’m not complaining. I cut off all my hair, which really set the tone. It was such a liberating thing.”

After the haircut and the weight gain, Hudgens continued to make herself look “as ugly as possible,” by changing her mannerisms, posture, and tone. “I wanted [Apple] to be strong and tough but broken,” she says.

After shooting the film,Vanessa admits that shedding herself of the intense character change – including the weight – proved difficult. “After we were done, I didn’t know how to act anymore, because I was so used to playing Apple. It took a lot of work. It was good because it made me that much stronger and I have to give myself a pat on the back for going that deep.”

The scariest part of filming though? Giving birth on camera, a first for the actress. “I’ve never shot a birthing scene and I ended up popping blood vessels in my face,” she confesses. “Probably the most physical and emotionally draining scene was my birthing scene.”

You can check out the trailer for the movie below, and see it in theaters starting January 24th. The film also stars Rosario Dawson as her drug-addict mother and Brendan Frasier as her rich but absent father.

  • Majority of Americans Want to Lose Weight, But Less Than Half Actually Try

In addition to shopping, the Thanksgiving holiday is largely about food. Families across the U.S. last week stuffed themselves with a variety of traditional foods including Turkey, Pumpkin Pie, and

Though Americans look forward to holiday feasts, it seems that more and more of them are feasting throughout the rest of the year. The American Medical Association is now calling obesity a disease to focus more attention on the issue and the U.S. Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is now referring to obesity levels in the U.S. as an epidemic.

Americans are well aware of their increasing size, though. A new Gallup poll shows that just over half of Americans (51%) would like to lose weight. However, that desire doesn’t seem to manifest in any action from most of those same people. The poll also shows that just 25% of Americans are “seriously trying to lose weight.”

The poll also found that 36% of Americans describe themselves as “overweight,” which is roughly the same percentage of Americans that are classified as obese, according to the CDC. Nearly twice that number (69%) of Americans would be considered overweight or obese. However, 59% of those polled stated that they are above their ideal weight, showing again that Americans are aware of their size even as they avoid the term overweight.

The reasons behind Americans’ larger size aren’t a mystery. Gallup polls in the past few years have shown that fewer Americans are exercising frequently, while at the same time American eating habits have declined and fast food has become a diet staple.

Another Gallup poll has found that Americans consider obesity a bigger health problem than smoking. Until those same Americans begin individually doing something about it, however, the country is likely to continue on its current trends.

  • Lindsay Lohan: 5 Pounds Gained in Rehab

Lindsay Lohan: 5 Pounds Gained in Rehab

Though Lindsay Lohan has had a few difficult years, it now seems that the former child actress is serious about getting her life under control. The star is currently in rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic, getting treatment her various addictions.

Now, Radar Online is reporting that Lohan has begun eating very well. The publication cited an unnamed “source close to the situation” as saying Lohan has gained five pounds while in rehab. The weight gain evidently came after doctors at the facility banned her from taking Adderall. Lohan has stated in the past that she has “severe” ADD and that her Adderall use is meant to keep it under control.

Adderall is an amphetamine-based stimulant that is often given to children to control ADD. It is also widely abused for recreational use, or by college students who need help concentrating on their studies.

Though many Hollywood actresses would freak out over gaining 5 pounds, Lindsay Lohan is arguably one of the stars that could use a bit of meat on her bones. Radar’s source stated that the food at the Betty Ford Clinic is “really, really good,” includes plenty of dessert, and that Lohan has bad eating habits.

  • Quit Smoking: Prepare to Gain a Few Unwanted Pounds

Attempting to quit smoking is, according to a lot of people, one of the hardest things you’ll ever attempt to do in your entire life. Once you’re hooked, kicking the habit is harder than quitting most hardcore narcotics. Of course, this depends on the individual, though I think it’s going to be difficult for anyone who is looking to make an improvement in their health and their lifestyle. However, like most endeavors in life, giving up cigarettes may come with some unwanted side effects.

Although literature encouraging smokers to kick the habit claim that most people will gain around six pounds following their life-altering decision, a recent study published in the British Medical Journal states that you can expect to acquire around eight to eleven pounds for your efforts. The study also revealed this weight gain is around five pounds more than most women are willing to tolerate. Lung cancer or belly fat: the decision is yours.

The study, which involved the review of 62 different studies involving those who have tried to quit smoking using a variety of different methods, found that 37 percent of participants gain less than 11 pounds over the course of one year. 34 percent, meanwhile, packed on between 11 and 22 pounds. On the more extreme end of the spectrum, 13 percent of those who participated in these studies gained more than 22 pounds. Here’s the silver lining: 16 percent of participants actually lost weight after quitting. Again, individual results are going to vary.

If you’re seriously concerned about gaining weight after giving up your smokes, it’s worth noting that extra pounds can be lost over time; getting rid of cancer is a far more grueling affair to contend with. Something to consider if you’re thinking about saying goodbye to your cigarettes.

  • CO2 Might Make You Fat

    CO2 Might Make You Fat

Danish researchers have recently announced a new theory as to why people all over the world are getting fatter – rising carbon dioxide levels are causing weight gain.

    (image)

The study began years ago, when Danish post-doctoral researcher Lars-Georg Hersoug noticed some trends while going over MONICA (Monitoring of Trends and Determinants in Cardio-vascular Disease) statistics in Denmark. Hersoug found that both fat and thin people gained weight, with the same proportional increase, over the span of the 22-year study. Hersoug, of the Research Centre for Prevention and Health at Glostrup University Hospital, went on to point out that “the normal theory is that fat people get fatter because they don’t move as much as they should. But the study showed that thin people also get fatter, and this happened over the whole of the 22-year period of the study.”

Hersoug’s studies show that obesity development was highest in the east coast area of the U.S. between 1986-2010, where C02 concentrations were the highest. Another study from 2010 showed that 20,000 animals including dogs, cats, mice and monkeys from various labs put on weight, regardless of a controlled diet. “The probability that all animals of eight different species put on weight from random causes is one in 10,000,000,” states Hersoug. And the most compelling evidence supporting the CO2 theory came in 2007, when a study revealed that the pH value of blood, its acidity, affects nerve cells called orexins.

Orexins, which are neuropeptide hormones, exist in the brain and stimulate wakefulness and energy expenditure. These hormones may be affected by CO2, and this can cause a person to go to bed later, which in turn affects metabolism, making it easier to put on weight. But orexins are also involved in the stimulation of apetite.

One might wonder what the point of exercise might be if the air is making us fat anyway, but Hersoug says that physical activity is still worthwhile. “If you’re out running, you get your blood circulating and you can pump much of the CO2 out of your body, so our hypothesis is really further evidence that exercise is healthy. And exercise may be even more necessary in the future, when we can expect even higher CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere.” Hersoug adds that eating fruits and vegetables also brings down the pH levels in the blood, so a healthy diet is still a good idea.

Interestingly, Hersoug suggests that living in the mountains might also help one to lose weight, as CO2 levels are lower in higher elevation. One might consider using this lung-powered iPhone charger while running in the mountains, to shave off some extra pounds.
