  • Wayne Brady’s Ex-Wife Helped Him Cope With Depression

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight which was aired on November 3, Wayne Brady revealed that he has been suffering from depression. He also talked about how his ex-wife, Mandie Takata, helped him get the treatment that he desperately needed. Brady cites Robin Williams’ suicide as the wake-up call that made him want to get better and ultimately shaped his decision to go public.

He said in the interview, “I think that when you keep these secrets, and something that you learn as you read more and go into treatments and get help is, that these secrets kill. Nobody wants to out themselves, so to speak. Or if they out themselves, it’s in a very Hollywood way. If someone says, ‘I’m clinically depressed,’ that sounds like someone’s making something up.”

Brady’s divorce from Takata, his second wife, pushed him further into depression. However, things got really bad during his 42nd birthday back in June.

“I was there by myself, in my bedroom and I had a complete breakdown,” he tells the show. “Just go ahead and imagine for yourself a brother in his underwear, in his room, crying, you got snot … that birthday was the beginning of, ‘OK, I have got to make a change.’”

Brady and Takata are now neighbors and they are helping each other raise their daughter Maile. Wayne talked about the relationship with Takata in the interview.

“We said we want to give Maile the closest experience to living in the same house. We have always lived in different homes. We just live super close now. The fact of the matter is I like her mom. She was with me when no one else in the world was with me, except my mom. There was loyalty, there was trust. She is my baby mama.”

Wayne Brady currently hosts the game show Let’s Make a Deal on CBS.

  • Wayne Brady Opens Up About Struggles With Depression

Wayne Brady may seem like a happy go lucky guy, but he recently admitted that he struggles with depression. He recently told Entertainment Tonight that he has struggled with the illness for years but was afraid to come forward with his struggles because he feels pressured to be happy and funny all of the time.

“People are like, ‘Wayne Brady’s always happy!’” he said. “No I’m not. Because I’m human.”

“Having a bad day is one thing, having a bad week is another, having a bad life … You don’t want to move, you can’t move in the darkness,” he added. “You’re like, ‘I am just going to sit right here and I want to wallow in this. As much as it hurts, I am going to sit right here because this is what I deserve. This is what I deserve, so I am going to sit here because I am that horrible of a person.’”

He went on to explain how depression works and feels and said that it was like a vicious cycle that he just couldn’t break.

“It starts this cycle where you tell yourself these lies … and those lies become true to you,” he says. “So, you stick to your own truth you’ve set up. ‘If I am this bad, then why should any of this matter?’ I feel at that point, you end up wanting to stop the pain.”

He also shared the point that he knew he had to make a change and what he considers the breaking point in his life.

“I was there by myself, in my bedroom and I had a complete breakdown … Just go ahead and imagine for yourself a brother in his underwear, in his room, you got snot … and that birthday was the beginning of, ‘OK, I’ve got to make a change.’”

He said that he had a lot of help from his friends and family and especially from his ex-wife. He said that now that he is being treated for the disorder, he feels better and knows that he is a better friend and father to his 11-year-old daughter.

He also offered some advice to other people who are suffering from depression and don’t know what to do about it.

“It took me a while to get my stuff together to go, ‘You know what? If you’re not happy, you have to do something about it,’” he said. “Just to admit that you are feeling this way is a huge step. To claim that, to say, ‘Why do I feel dark? Why do I feel unhappy? Let me do something about this.’”

  • Wayne Brady Raps, White People Dance in New Wii Party U Ad

For nearly one year now, Nintendo has struggled to sell its Wii U console. The lack of must-have games for the system has created apathy for gamers, who are now looking forward to two competitor consoles from Sony and Microsoft. This, just as Nintendo is finally getting some fun-looking games for the Wii U.

Nintendo last week released Wii Party U, its Wii U follow-up to Wii Party for the Wii. The game is a Mario Party-style virtual board game with dozens of mini games for players to play with each other. While other publishers are focusing on online multiplayer, Nintendo is still encouraging people to get together in a single living room, and who better to promote this concept than comedian Wayne Brady. Wait, what?

Nintendo today released a series of ads starring Whose Line is it Anyway‘s Wayne Brady. In the videos, Brady appears to use his improvisational skills to annoy the various members of two stage families. The most bizarre ad, though, is one where he raps on about Wii Party U as the families dance (poorly):

Two other ads were also released in the series. One sees Brady annoying two children trying to play a baseball mini-game on the Wii U GamePad. The other features Brady and the father from the rap ad spending some awkwardly forced male-bonding time together.
