  • iPhone 7 Rumor Points to Waterproof Device

iPhone rumors are pretty hilarious – not because they’re always wrong or anything. To the contrary, plenty of rumors about the next generation of the iPhone turn out to be true. What’s funny is just how early they start – and how quickly they ramp up.

The iPhone 6s just went on sale this past weekend (and broke sales records), so of course it’s the perfect time for some juicy iPhone 7 rumors.

The newest comes from Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara, which says that we can expect the new iPhones (which are probably about a year out) to sport a new waterproof and dustproof body.

    From MacRumors:

This big new upgrade to the iPhone 7 would call for a new frame and casing material, and according to one of the postings on Weibo, Apple is in fact planning on adopting an entirely new material next year for the iPhone 7. If this turns out to be the case, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus would be the last in the iPhone line to include a metallic casing for the smartphone.

Of course, Apple is behind the curve on offering phones that protect against the elements. But there are plenty of iPhone users who would love for Apple to finally debut a waterproof phone.

Mac Otakara also says that “sources” confirm a “completely flat” LCD screen for the next model.

Waterproof? Cool. But it’s a rumor on a device that’s a year from being unveiled – so make sure you have plenty of grains of salt handy.

  • New Logitech Keyboard is Washable, Spillproof

This week Logitech began taking preorders for its new washable keyboard. And when Logitech says “washable” they mean the entire keyboard can be submerged in water and survive.

The keyboard, branded the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310, has been designed to be nearly waterproof. One of the images on the product’s web page shows the keyboard being washed in a kitchen sink. Logitech stops short of calling the device completely waterproof, but they suggest that customers can use mild soap and a soft cloth to clean it in water no more than 11 inches deep. Oh, and the USB cable attached to the keyboard is not waterproof, so keep it out of the water.

“We’ve all experienced that moment of distraction – followed by panic, when a cup of coffee or a soda spills all over your keyboard,” said Sophie Le Guen, senior director of mice and keyboards at Logitech. “Because life and its messes will happen, regardless of how careful you are, Logitech designed the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 to look and function like new, even over time.”

Drainage holes on the back of the keyboard allow the device to be dried quickly. Since Logitech expects customers to wash the K310 frequently, the keys have been laser etched and have a UV coating. The company claims that the keys can last up to five million keystrokes.

The Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 is already available for preorder at the price of $40 through the Logitech website and will be released in the U.S. sometime in August. Europeans will have to wait a little longer for the keyboard, which will ship overseas sometime in October.

  • Sony Releasing Waterproof Handicam This Month

The handheld cam kind of took a huge hit when Cisco Systems bought and subsequently shut down Flip Video in 2011. Some people thought it was because smart phones are taking over and they all have cameras on them. But only a small fraction of phones sold worldwide are smart phones and even fewer have HD cameras in them. So there is a fairly big hole to fill.

Stepping up to the plate is Sony with their new waterproof HDR-GW77V Handycam. The rugged waterproof camera features a 20.4-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor capable of 1080p video at 60fps and can take 20.4 megapixel stills. It also offers a 3-inch swivel screen while also offering 16GB of internal storage and a 10x optical zoom. It also offers a built-in GPS for geotagging your videos.

Sony claims that it can handle up to 16 feet of water and will withstand a 5 ft free fall. Which means it is fairly kid friendly in that regard, it is totally not kid friendly in its price. At a cool $699 this all weather Handycam is on the pricey side!

The new Handycam is set to be released this month and will retail for $699 plus tax!

  • Waterproof iPhones?

    Waterproof iPhones?

Have you ever ran your cell phone through the washing machine? many of us have and the end result is not always pretty, but there is help on the way according to makers of microscopic technology. The new technology is a film that would protect the internal components of phones, resist water, and also not interfere with the devices functioning.

The technology is called HzO. There is a lot of interest from most of the major manufacturers and at the forefront of all this, as always, is Apple. here’s a video of the HzO technology in action:

So if your one of those forgetful Apple enthusiensts who likes to launder their devises there might be some upgrades coming for 2012/13 which will make your life a little easier and your gadgets a little more impressive.

  • Take A Swim With This Waterproof Tablet

Take A Swim With This Waterproof Tablet

How many times have you had the urge to take your tablet device with you in the shower? Or maybe take it for a swim? I’d sure like to catch up on Breaking Bad while hanging out in the hut tub.

The reason I ask this is because the Fujitsu “Arrows” F-01D tablet has been spotted in the wild, and it looks like it likes to be submerged in water. The existence of said tablet was confirmed back in late August, and the speculation was to whether “waterproof” meant it could survive a splash or be used in the bath.

Now, thanks to ndevil.com, we see that it can take a pretty good soaking. This video shows the tablet loading up a web page while being pretty much immersed in water. As you’ll see, the tablet sports micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports, that can be sealed up nicely with little waterproof covers:

And here are some specs, courtesy of Android Community

Obviously from the name you’ll know that this tablet will be rocking 4G LTE. The specs include a 10.1″ 1280 x 800 HD display, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, a 1.0 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor is on board, not the TI OMAP 4430 as original leaks suggested. We have 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with 32GB being optional.

As you might have heard during the video, this tablet is currently only available in Japan.

Here, in another video from the same demo, you see in the background (around the 1:30 mark) that the tablet can be submerged for a pretty long period of time. Unfortunately, you wont be able to take much else from it unless you speak German.

Considering that it is truly as water resistant as it looks, this could be pretty successful if and when it’s launched overseas. What do you think? Can you see a use for this kind of device? Let us know in the comments.
