  • Arrest Warrant Issued for Russell Brand

On Monday, Russell Brand was accused of grabbing a paparazzo’s iPhone out of his hand and throwing it through the window of a nearby law firm. We covered the story yesterday, when Russell tweeted his hilarious response to the accusations: “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”

Brand has since had a warrant issued for his arrest on suspicion of simple criminal damages. The offense carries a fine of $700 dollars, probably not much to Brand, given the satisfaction of sticking it to the paparazzi.

So far, no word from Brand or his spokesman about the warrant. According to TMZ, Brand’s spokesman has contacted the law firm, offering to pay for the window damage.

Russell is still in New Orleans filming a movie, so we could see an arrest, or Brand may later be called in on a summons if they determine he is not a flight risk. We will post again as news becomes available.

  • Warrant Star Jani Lane’s Death Spurs Twitter Debate

As you might have seen while perusing the internets this afternoon, Former Warrant frtonman Jani Lane was found dead last night in a motel room just outside of L.A. When we first told you about his death, we reported on the Twitter reaction from his fellow musicians and other celebrities.

At that time, the cause of death was unknown. As of right now it is still undetermined, but police might have a few more clues.

According to TMZ, investigators have uncovered a “half-empty” bottle of vodka and prescription pills in the hotel room where they found the body.

Apparently, paramedics arrived around 5:15 pm yesterday and pronounced Lane dead at the scene. An autopsy will be held later today but the death is currently being treated as either an accidental overdose or a death by natural causes.

The news of Lane’s death has not only been discussed by celebs – the general population is pretty enthralled with it. He’s been trending all day on Twitter and so has one of Warrant’s most famous songs, “Cherry Pie.”

But some are fighting back, saying that remembering Lane as the “Cherry Pie guy” is wrong.

Remembering Jani Lane for Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” instead of “Heaven” is like if Bret Michaels died and everyone thought: “Unskinny Bop.” 56 minutes ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Another thing on Jani Lane’s death –

I was tipped off to this via Twitter, and it prompted a big “C’mon, guys!” YouTube, you might want to do something about this ad that pops up before the official Cherry Pie video. Seems a bit insensitive, don’t you think?

What do you guys think? For which song should we remember Jani Lane? Let us know in the comments.

  • Warrant’s Jani Lane Dead at 47: Musicians, Other Celebs React

It’s a sad day for all late 80s-early 90s glam metal enthusiasts as the former lead singer of the band Warrant was found dead last night.

Jani Lane was discovered in a room at a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, California. He was only 47.

Police say that the cause of death is still undetermined.

You might know Jani Lane (born John Kennedy Oswald) as the writer of the not-to-carefully-cloaked, sexual-metaphor-laced “Cherry Pie.” The video for that song, which debuted in 1990, became quite famous for it’s use of model Bobbie Brown and a fire hose. Lane later married Brown in 1991.

Lane actually penned 5 other top 40 hits, including “Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries,” I Saw Red,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and of course, the legendary power balled “Heaven.”

In 2005, Jani Lane appeared on Vh1’s Celebrity Fit Club. In 2009 he had a couple of run-ins with the law, as he was arrested for two alcohol-related vehicular incidents. Last year he toured with “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” band Great White after their lead singer was recovering from surgery.

Fellow musicians and other celebs are reacting on Twitter. Here are some of those reactions –
