  • Vince Young Says He Is Officially Retired

Vince Young has finally revealed that he has officially retired from the NFL.

During a recent radio interview with Brent Carney of KXAN in Austin, Texas, Young made the announcement. “Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed … I’ve already started moving forward. … It’s definitely official, I think, in my book,” he said. “I love the NFL, will love the game always but I’m kind of moving forward and moving on right now.”

Vince said that he will more than likely go to work for the University of Texas as an ambassador for the university, where he was 30-2 as a starter and then led his team to a national championship. In 2006, he was the number 3 overall pick for the Tennessee Titans. While playing for the Titans, Young was awarded the Rookie of the Year honor and made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009. However, he was cut from the team in 2011 after falling out with coach Jeff Fisher.

“If it doesn’t work out,” Young said of the job at the University of Texas, “you still had a great shot at it, still was a Pro Bowler, playoff guy and still got a winning percentage and things like that. If it doesn’t work out it’s in God’s hands. I just stay strong and continue to live my life and enjoy my life, especially taking care of my little ones.”

Over the past few years, Young has fallen on financial hardships and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2014. “I had my ups and downs,” Young said. “I made the mistake of getting in to it with my coach, and that kind of hurt me a whole lot. When you go to different teams, they already have a bad perception of you. When that’s out there, there’s nothing you can do.”

Young served as the backup quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles for one season, and was cut in the training camps by the Buffalo Bills in 2012 and then the Green Bay Packers in 2013. “That’s what everyone else focuses on, I don’t focus on that. It wasn’t too bad,” Young said . “I’m very happy and thankful for living the dream I had as a kid.”

  • Vince Young To Try Out For Cleveland Browns Team At Pre-Draft Camp

In a recent interview, Vince Young mentioned that he must do his part and stay ready, since “you never know when you are going to get a call.” The call has arrived for the football player, and it came from the Cleveland Browns.

Young, who is a free agent quarterback, has been brought in by the Cleveland Browns for a tryout, Ray Farmer, the general manager of the team said. Tyler Thigpen was brought in as well. The two quarterbacks will be participating in a pre-draft camp that will start on Tuesday and will last for three days.

Farmer said that the mini camp is the best way for their team to see what Young is capable of. He also said that they have been following him through offseason. “He’d been doing some things that kind of caught our eye and made us kind of take note,” he said.

Young, 30, was with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, Buffalo Bills in 2012, and the Green Bay Packers in 2013. Throughout his football career, his record indicates that he has had 51 interceptions and 46 touchdowns. Thigpen, on the other hand, has played for teams, such as the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to Farmer, the two candidates they brought in share the same quality that they are seeking for the quarterback position, and that is mobility. However, he also said that mobility is just a “piece of the puzzle” and that a quarterback should be able to do a lot of things.

In a report from The Houston Chronicle, Young said that he has a job available for him to grab if his pro football career is over. The work? An ambassador for the University of Texas. Young said that he wants to support the university and help kids get scholarships.

  • Cleveland Browns Bringing In Vince Young To Tryout

As the National Football League draft of 2014 rapidly approaches, the Cleveland Browns are scouring the league for possible quarterbacks, even as Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel remains a possibility for the holder of the fourth pick in the draft.

Among the players the Browns are bringing in for upcoming minicamps are former top-three draft pick Vince Young and NFL journeyman Tyler Thigpen, Yahoo! Sports Shutdown Corner is reporting.

Young, drafted in 2006 by the Tennessee Titans, has a 31-19 win-loss record as an NFL starter, though the last game he threw a pass in was Week 13 of the 2011 season, when he was quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles. He threw four interceptions that day in a 31-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

“Our interest in Vince is that he’s been productive and he’s had success in the National Football League,” Cleveland Browns General Manager Ray Farmer said at a pre-draft news conference, reported by the Christian Science Monitor. “We wanted to take the opportunity to get a chance to see where he was. We’ve been kind of following him through the offseason and he had been doing some things that kind of caught our eye and made us kind of take note and we wanted to see what that looked like in his own time frame.”

The current quarterback slated as the starter for the Browns this upcoming season is Brian Hoyer, who is coming off knee surgery. A significant appeal to both Young and Thigpen is that they are both mobile quarterbacks, a key quality in new coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

“They both are very good athletes,” Farmer said. “They both have had relative success — I know Vince you would easily say probably more than Tyler. That’s a good piece. I think Kyle would tell you that he likes a quarterback that is mobile. The offense definitely is going to require the quarterback to do different things, play outside the pocket to some degree.”

But everything might change on draft day if the Browns have the opportunity to draft Johnny Manziel, who, as the USA Today puts it, is the “enigma of NFL draft quarterbacks.”

If there are reservations, Farmer isn’t revealing any. When asked about the possibility of drafting Manziel, Farmer said, “The question is, do I get a chance to take him?

“I don’t think I have any reservations with who Johnny is. We had a lot of conversations, spent a lot of time with him. He’s a good young man.”

  • Vince Young: Another Professional Athlete Goes Broke

It’s always hard to believe that even after earning millions of dollars, some people still find a way to go broke.

It is startling to hear the large contracts signed by professional athletes, but it is even more shocking to learn that a whopping 78% of NFL players have to deal with serious financial crisis or bankruptcy within the first two years of leaving the game. About 60% of NBA players face the same troubles after 5 years.

It is easy to blame them for the mess but the causes of the problem are varied. Family pressures, poor money management skills, big egos, thrill seeking, bad financial investments and so on, contribute to the bankruptcy epidemic that plagues pro athletes. We don’t know which of these apply to Vince Young.

The once promising football star has now reached rock-bottom, a sharp contrast to eight years ago when he was on top of the world. Young has already filed for chapter 11 federal bankruptcy, just 2 years after leaving the NFL despite once signing a contract worth $26 million with the Tennessee Titans.

Young was the starting quarterback for the Titans between 2006 and 2010. He then joined the Eagles in 2011 after being dumped by the Titans in the 2010 season.

According to the Houston Chronicle, his attorney Brian Kilmer filed a petition in a Houston bankruptcy court that listed his assets to be worth between $500,001 and $1 million and liabilities between $1,001,000 and $10 million.

It is alleged that his financial woes began, or was at least made worse, by a $1.8 million loan which he ultimately didn’t need. The loan has now grown to $2.5 million.

According to a Pro Player Funding (a New York based company that granted the loan) attorney, a judgment against Young in favor of Pro Player Funding was passed by a New York Court.

Meanwhile, Young has sued his financial adviser and former agent for trying to rip him off. He says they took the money he received from the Pro Player loan for themselves.

Young is only 30-years-old, he could almost certainly play football for a few more years, so why isn’t he? After all, he could use the money.

No one seems to have a clear answer for why he’s been ousted from the NFL. Young’s skills with money leave much to be desired but his skills on the gridiron are solid. Vince Young and his family and friends are perplexed as to why he hasn’t been signed. This has lead some to believe that he may have been blacklisted.

  • Vince Young: Broke, And Doesn’t Know Why

Vince Young, currently a quarterback without a country, is deeply mired in financial troubles. To be blunt, he’s broke, and no one can really pinpoint why.

During a legal battle–which involves Pro Player Funding LLC, a company which allegedly loaned Young over a million dollars last year and is trying to collect repayment–the argument flips back and forth between Young’s “out of control” spending and bad financial advisors as the reason for his money woes. NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus seems to think it’s the latter.

“Perhaps Young has always depended on other people to handle business that should’ve been his,” he wrote.

Young was released from the Buffalo Bills prior to the start of the season, and although no one has said that his legal troubles are the reason, his attorney commented along those lines.

“I wasn’t in the room when they (the Bills) made a decision, but what would you think?” Trey Dolezal said. “It certainly wouldn’t help me if I’m the owner or the head coach knowing all this is going on with Vince and then he goes out and plays poorly.”

At one time, Young was worth an estimated $26 million from a contract with the Tennesee Titans; now that’s all gone, with accusations that Young’s uncle is one of the people responsible for the rapid decline of his fortune. He is currently engaged in a lawsuit against his former agent, Major Adams, and a financial planner, Ronnie Peoples, for obtaining the Pro Player loan in his name without his knowledge and misappropriating funds.
