  • iPhone 5 Rumor: The Housing Will Look Like This [Video]

The iPhone 5 (which may not actually be called the iPhone 5), is expected to be unveiled in September. The unveiling event is rumored to be scheduled for September 12 (when the iPad mini could be revealed as well), and there’s talk that the device would be actually released to the public a week after that.

As is the case ahead of any major apple release, rumors have been running rampant, along with allegedly leaked photos of the device, or various elements of it. There’s now a video making the rounds from Macotakara, which claims to show off the housing, or at least what could be the housing of the device. Here’s that video:

Obviously, there’s no way of knowing for sure that this is what it will look like, but as others have pointed out, Macotakara has a decent track record when it comes to Apple, so that could lend some sliver of credibility to the clip.

Either way, September really isn’t that far away at this point, so we’ll all find out soon enough just what this thing is going to look like, as well as what it is actually called. The real question is: how much better will it be than its predecessors and competitors?

To read about what’s expected of the device, peruse our iPhone 5 rumor coverage here.

  • This Vomiting Deadlifter Gives New Meaning To The Phrase “Power Through It”

Tonight the games begin, as the flame will be lit in in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. The Olympics showcase some of the world’s most talented athletes – people in almost unbelievable physical condition. Watching them compete every two years is awe-inspiring, as their feats of strength, endurance, and agility raise them to the level of superhuman in the eyes of many.

Seriously, hardcore athletes are hardcore. As a reminder of that fact, check out this guy, who gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “power through it.”

    [Warning, it’s a bit gross]

On one hand, this is an incredible display of the limits a true athlete can break through if they put everything they have into it.

On the other hand, maybe vomiting profusely is a sign that you probably shouldn’t be doing this to your body.

  • Bob Ross Remixed: PBS Gives the Painter the Mister Rogers Treatment with “Happy Little Clouds”

Bob Ross Remixed: PBS Gives the Painter the Mister Rogers Treatment with “Happy Little Clouds”

Sometimes, I feel sorry for the younger generation (for a lot of reasons). One of the main reasons I feel this sadness is because they will never grow up in a world where their weekend mornings are graced by Bob Ross and The Joy of Painting.

One of my childhood heros, Bob Ross taught millions of people that everyone can paint. Except me, of course – I really sucked (even at the Bob Ross technique). But man did I love to watch Bob Ross do his thing. The Joy of Painting was a hypnotic affair, as you were sucked in to a world of happy little trees, happy little streams, and happy little clouds.

Basically, everything was happy. And Bob’s joy poured through the screen – you could really feel it.

So it’s my great pleasure to present to you PBS digital studio’s second installment of their “Icons Remixed” series – Bob Ross – Happy Little Clouds. In June, PBS’ first remix of Mister Rogers was a viral smash. As the time, I suggested that the next icon they tackle should be Bob Ross, and I’m thrilled that they complied:

As with the Mister Roger remix, the Bob Ross remix comes to us courtesy of John D. Boswell, known as melodysheep. For the next icon remixed, may I suggest this wonderful guy.

  • YouTube Reminds Us That There Are Over 4 Million Creative Commons Videos At Our Disposal

A little over a year ago, YouTube launched Creative Commons on YouTube, and officially allowed uploaders to ad a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY) to their videos. At the launch, the CC library consisted of just over 10,000 videos from organizations like C-SPAN, PublicResource, and Al Jazeera.

Today, YouTube tells us that there are now 4 million Creative Commons videos in their library, which means that YouTube is the number one place to go on the web to find video to “reuse, remix, and reimagine.”

    From the YouTube blog:

Since the Creative Commons video library launch on YouTube a year ago, you’ve added more than 40 years’ worth of video to the mix. Anyone, anywhere can edit, build on and republish the library’s videos for free thanks to the Creative Commons Attribution license, otherwise known as CC BY.

Do you need a professional opening for your San Francisco vacation video? Perhaps some gorgeous footage of the moon for your science project? How about a squirrel eating a walnut to accompany your hot new dubstep track? All of this and more is available to inspire and add to your unique creation. Thanks to CC BY, it’s easy to borrow footage from other people’s videos and insert it into your own, because the license grants you the specific permissions to do so as long as you give credit to the original creator.

To make your video available to the Creative Commons, it’s as simple as clicking this option when uploading:

And starting today, you can switch over your default to CC BY, meaning that all of your future uploads will appear in the Creative Commons library.

  • Here’s What It Would Sound Like If Axl Rose Hated Bane

Despite the tragic and senseless shooting in Aurora, Colorado at a Dark Knight Rises showing that left 12 people dead and over 50 people injured, the film managed to perform very well at the box office.

Although the film hasn’t received universal acclaim, reception has been positive for the most part. For the people that aren’t as enthusiastic about the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s reboot trilogy, one of the main sticking points is the relative weakness of the film’s main villain, Bane. Personally, I found Bane to be a compelling addition to the series, but many feel that the character lacked the proper punch, even if Heath Ledger’s masterful turn as the Joker in The Dark Knight set the bar unfairly high.

I guess we could put the guy behind this parody video in that camp. His rendition of the Guns n’ Roses classic “November Rain” asks why Nolan couldn’t have picked someone better-known to attempt to bring Gotham’s reckoning.

When I look into his muzzle, I can see a man deranged
But Nolan, when I see him, I have to ask, hey, what’s his name, oh yeah
I know he’s not the Joker, Mr. Freeze, or Hugo Strange
And it’s hard to fear for Batman, when I don’t remember Bane.

Yeah, his Axl Rose voice leaves a lot to be desired, but hey, I guess he has a point.

  • Young Beatles Fan Brings The Cute To Sgt. Pepper’s

It’s always nice to see the younger generation develop a respect for some of the best music ever made, and that’s why we must reward any brave kid who decides to tackle the legendary beginning to one of the greatest albums in history.

Even if that includes making a drug reference here and there.

Little Owen here has obviously been bit by the Beatles bug, something that (unfortunately) didn’t happen to me until I was much older than he is. According to the info, Owen began his musical adventures with the Wiggles but of course, that was “just a gateway to the Beatles.”

Check out the video below for one of the best introductions of Billy Shears I’ve ever heard:

  • If You Like Instagram For Photos, Check Out Ptch For Videos

I think it’s safe to say that Instagram has been a pretty successful hit. In addition to the millions of users it has attracted, it was acquired by Facebook for a billion dollars. Now, there’s a new iPhone app, which seems to aspire to be the Instagram for video content, but it also comes with Instagram integration. It’s called ptch.

The app officially launched late last week, and it’s already drawing plenty of instagram comparisons. If you watch the promo video, it’s easy to see why:

Here are a few additional videos Ptch has uploaded to its channel, demonstrating the types of things it can do:

The app is backed by DreamWorks Animation, and provides in-app access to users’ videos and photos from social feeds like Instagram, Google+, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and Viddy.

The videos users create with the app re called “ptches,” and they can be “reptched” or remixed, and of course, shared.

Ptch is currently available for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod and iPad.

No word on when we might expect an Android version, but if Ptch has learned anything from Instagram, they’d do well to get an Android app out soon. As soon as Instagram’s Android app launched, Instagram downloads skyrocketed. In May, Instagram surpassed 50 million users.

  • Dashboard Cam Catches Act Of Kindness, And Don’t We All Need It

Today’s news has been dominated by a terrible, tragic story out of Aurora, Colorado. In the early morning hours, during a showing of The Dark Knight Rises, a gunman opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd – killing 12 and injuring upwards of 50 more.

The act of senseless, brutal violence has naturally put everyone in a funk. It’s just a unbelievably painful incident – a depraved act of cruelty that’s simply hard to wrap your brain around.

It’s the kind of story that makes you lose a little bit of your faith in humanity, so I guess we all need something to restore a little bit of that faith.

Distrubed, violent individuals can inflict so much pain upon the world, and this dashcam video is a small reminder that there actually is kindness in most people

An unusually tame dashcam video, check out how one driver responds to a little old lady crossing the street:

This video won’t really ease any suffering and it surely won’t bring anyone back or provide any insight into why someone would be so depraved – but hey, what are you going to do…it made me smile.

  • YouTube Turns An Eye To Mecca, Debuts New Ramadan Channel

Today begins the holy month of Ramadan, Islam’s period of fasting, prayer, and charity. For the next 30 days, millions of Muslims around the word will participate in sawm, zakat & sadaqah, tarawih, and salah. And this year, YouTube wants to make the experience a little more digital.

For the entire month, YouTube has devoted a channel to streaming the Mecca prayers live. For Muslims who cannot make the pilgrimage, they can view the holy city from the comfort of their own home.

YouTube has also devoted a new channel to showing the special television programming created for Ramadan. They say that over time, the channel will house over 50 shows:

Ramadan is about more than just prayer; it is also a special moment to gather with friends and family. Muslims gather to watch special television shows produced for the holiday and shown only during Ramadan. Often the shows overlap in scheduling. This year, for the first time, YouTube is enabling people to watch their favorite shows anytime, anywhere. A new YouTube Ramadan channel lets viewers see more than 50 premium Ramadan shows the same day they air. In the clip below, famed Syrian actor Jamal Suliman appears in a drama:

On top of this, Google+ will host 30 days of Hangouts featuring actors, poets, chefs, and more.

  • Chick-Fil-A’s Anti-Gay Views Got You Feeling Guilty? Try A Homemade Chick-Fil-Gay

Chick-Fil-A has never really tried to hide the fact that they are a “Christian organization.” If the fact that they are close on Sundays didn’t tip you off, the company has made it pretty clear that they support a “traditional” set of values when it comes to sex and relationships. Oh, and then there are the millions of dollars in donations to anti-gay groups.

And earlier this week, company president Dan Cathy eliminated all doubt by pleading guilty as charged to supporting a “Biblical definition of the family unit.” Although his remarks were unsurprising, they created a bit of a ruckus among the internet community.

“Well, guilty as charged. We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that…we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles,” he said.

As you can imagine, plenty of gay-rights supporters aren’t too thrilled about this and have spoken out against eating at the restaurant, despite the tastiness of their products.

If you’re a supporter of marriage equality and still want to indulge in a great fried chicken sandwich without the guilt, Hilah Cooking has a solution for you:

After the massive backlash, Chick-Fil-A has backpedaled a bit on their President’s comments.

“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender,” said the company in a Facebook post. “We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”

  • Here’s The Mitt Romney As Bane Video Gotham Deserves

Ever since perpetually medicated ham hock Rush Limbaugh decided to shoot off at the mouth again and cry liberal conspiracy on everyone involved with the making of The Dark Knight Rises, it was only a matter of time before someone mashed up some Mitt Romney quotes with the trailer for the upcoming film, wasn’t it?

If you haven’t heard, Limbaugh declared on his Tuesday radio program that it was no coincidence that the villain in the last installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman reboot was named “Bane.”

Bain Capital – Mitt Romney’s company – Hollywood conspiracy – get it?

    Here’s what he said:

“Have you heard this new movie, the Batman movie, what is it, ‘The Dark Knight Lights Up’ or whatever the name is. That’s right, ‘Dark Knight Rises’. Lights Up, same thing. Do you know the name of the villain in this movie? Bane. The villain in The ‘Dark Knight Rises’ is named Bane, B-a-n-e. “What is the name of the venture capital firm that Romney ran and around which there’s now this make-believe controversy? Bain. The movie has been in the works for a long time. The release date’s been known, summer 2012 for a long time. Do you think that it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire breathing four eyed whatever it is villain in this movie is named Bane?”

Nevermind the fact that Bane actually appeared in print back in the early 90’s and…oh my god why are we even arguing this point?

I guess the only good thing to come out of this, other than a hearty guffaw, is that I’m sure this isn’t the last Romney/Bane supercut we’ll see this summer (via Gotcha Media blog):

Rush has backpedaled on his original comments, saying that he never really said that and he only meant to show how Democrats with use the connection this election season.

And as a bonus, here’s Bane as the head of Bain Capital, way before Rush went off the deep end surprised nobody by saying something nuclear-level crazy:

  • Nick Offerman Continues the Teen Tweet Reading Bonanza

Back in April, Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman debuted a new hobby to the world – reading tweets from young starlets.

This makes the third time that Offerman has put down the axe, sander, or chisel to participate in Team Coco’s segment “Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation Reads Tweets from Young Female Celebrities.” They are continuously funny, so we’ll give him the a’ok to keep pumping them out. If you want to check out previous tweet-reads, you can do that here and here.

Like the other videos, Offerman juxtaposes the inane tweets of teenage celebs with the manly pursuits that both he and his famous character Ron Swanson are known for.

    Check it out below:

Just what the hell is he building, by the way?

  • YouTube Now Blurs Faces For Maximum Anonymity

If you want to upload a video to YouTube, but you fear what may happen if anyone identifies its subjects, things just got a bit easier.

Today, YouTube announced that they’ve added face blurring to their set of video enhancements.

    From the YouTube blog:

Blurring faces on YouTube is simple. Once you’ve chosen the video that you’d like to edit within our Video Enhancements tool, go to Additional Features and click the “Apply” button below Blur All Faces. Before you publish, you will see a preview of what your video will look like with faces blurred. When you save the changes to your video, a new copy is created with the blurred faces. You will then be given the option to delete the original video.

YouTube makes a point to say that this in a new feature that utilizes emerging technology, so you may encounter situations where not all the faces in your video are blurred out. On the tool itself, YouTube reminds users that if this happens, you may want to keep your video private.

We’ve known that YouTube was working on this technology for a while, at the behest of various human rights groups. Now, it’s a reality.

  • Only Duke Nukem Can Make 50 Shades of Grey Palatable

Happy Hump Day, everyone. And what better way to celebrate than with a dramatic reading of masturbatory fan fiction hit Fifty Shades of Grey?

If those words just made you cringe, you’re probably not alone. But what makes this interpretation worth it is the fact that the book is being read by none other than Duke Nukem himself.

Yep, someone got Jon St. John (Nukem’s voice actor) to read a few lines from the BDSM housewife handbook.

I know that even with Duke Nukem’s cool factor, you’re still going to have to listen to a paragraph of Fifty Shades of Grey. That’s painful, and I do apologize. But it’s worth it just to hear the line “My inner goddess in doing the dance of the seven veils.” Check it out below:

Better or worse than the Gilbert Gottfried interpretation? Tough call.

  • New Teaser for M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth” Channels Facebook Timeline

After blasting onto the movie scene and captivating audiences with his now-often-ridiculed plot twists, director M. Night Shyamalan has seen a pretty substantial dip is the amount of buzz his new releases generate. After blowing up the box office with hits like The Sixth Sense and Signs, and crafting a genuinely great film with Unbreakable, a string of flops shot Shyamalan’s high-flying balloon right out of the sky.

Post 2006’s Lady in the Water, it feels like Shyamalan has fought the battle of preconceived public option with every new film, as the number of people genuinely excited about his latest pictures has dwindled with every passing year.

But with his upcoming film After Earth, the marketing team is taking a new approach. With a just-released teaser trailer, they’ve inked the story into the ever-evolving world of Facebook, and they tell the story using Facebook’s polarizing new feature, Timeline.

    Check it out below:

Set to release in the summer of 2013, After Earth plays out like this:

After a crash landing, a father and son explore a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier.

It stars Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith (of The Karate Kid remake fame).

According to the teaser video, the After Earth Facebook page has just short of 2 million likes. There’s actually a real “After Earth” Facebook page, but it currently only sits at 1,800 likes.

Viral Rewind: Nicolas Cage Losing His Sh*t

Yesterday, a friend reminded me of a viral video that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I watched it. It made my night.

That’s the simple premise behind our new Friday feature – Viral Rewind. Hopefully, each week, we’ll remind you of an incredibly awesome YouTube video that you may have forgotten existed. We’re dedicated to making the old new again, and making sure we never allow the interwebs’ hidden gems to gather dust.

For our inaugural video, I present one of my all-time favorites. With just over 6 million views, here’s Nicolas Cage Losing His Shit:

Here’s what Nicolas Cage himself had to say about the video, in an interview with Screen Junkies:

Oh yeah. That’s very exciting. I was happy to see that this person found it and was going back to some of the really early work like Zandalee and even the movie I made with my brother Deadfall. It was very exciting to see that be reawakened.

That great piece of art, courtesy of Harry Hanrahan, contains scenes from 17 films, including blockbuster hits and lesser-known works from his early career. It’s simply astonishing that Nicolas Cage can lose his shit in so many ways. I guess it’s a testament to his versatility and range as an actor.

  • Bryan Cranston Breaks Good, Supports Gay Marriage [VIDEO]

Bryan Cranston is best known nowadays for his award-winning portrayal of Walter White, a man torn between a benevolent nature he once had and the malevolent creature that his decision have forced him to become.

But when it comes to marriage equality, he’s not really torn at all.

As part of the Human Rights Campaign’s “American’s for Marriage Equality USA” initiative, Cranston has filmed a pro-gay marriage PSA with his wife and daughter.

“Gay and lesbian couples should have every right to experience the joys of marriage and family that we do. Please join us and the majority of Americans who support marriage equality,” he says.

Don’t be thrown off by the fact that he’s still rocking the Walter White look. Check it out below:

Here’s the message from the HRC about this initiative:

Love. Honor. Commitment. Three simple words. They are the words that gay and lesbian couples feel in their hearts when they make a commitment to each other. That’s why the Human Rights Campaign believes that same-sex couples should be able to get married. Our campaign, Americans for Marriage Equality, is sparking a national conversation about the power of love, fairness and equality.

Supporting marriage equality apparently isn’t a tough choice for Bryan Cranston. But I’m sure that Walter White is going to have to make plenty of tough choices when the final season of Breaking Bad debuts on Sunday night. Both of these things make me happy.

  • Breaking Bad Meets The Dark Knight Rises in “Breaking Batman”

In terms of entertainment, I’m not really sure how you could top next week. On Sunday, our favorite players in the most memorable drug game in TV history (sorry, The Wire) begin their tumble toward to end as Breaking Bad premieres.

Then, just when you think you’ve taken in all of the painful artistry that you can contain, Friday comes and you’re hit with the finale of Christopher Nolan’s Batman reboot The Dark Knight Rises. I’ve been known to exaggerate before when approaching great show premieres and great film releases, but I can legitimately say that I can’t remember a time when I was more excited about an upcoming period in media assault.

Someone must feel the same way, because they decided to just mash it all together. The result is this schizophrenic yet thoroughly enjoyable trailer for “Breaking Batman” courtesy of TheQuanrudes.

Check it out below (Caution: SPOILERS) –

Does it make sense? Not really. Does than even matter? Hardly. Except now it’s really hard to deny that Robin has a lot of Jesse Pinkman in him – or vice versa.

  • R. Kelly’s New Autobiography Gets The Dramatic Reading It Deserves From Gary Oldman

If you woke up today and thought, “Man, I’d really love to hear Gary Oldman read an excerpt from R. Kelly’s new autobiography “Soulacoaster,” then boy are you in luck.

Courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Academy Award nominated actor gives his all in a dramatic interpretation of a chance meeting between R. Kelly and the late, great Tupac.

    Check it out below:

“YO ‘pac,” I yelled at the top of my voice.

He made a u-turn and jumped out of the car.

    “What up, baby?” he asked.

“Just wanted to holler at you,” I said. “Just had to tell you that I love everything that you do.”

If that’s not poetry, then I don’t know what is. Of course, you’ll be able to see Oldman in another important role next Friday in The Dark Knight Rises, but I doubt anything could be as dramatic and poignant as this.

  • Interactive Vending Machine Wants Your Worship, Best Dance Moves For Free Snacks

Interactive Vending Machine Wants Your Worship, Best Dance Moves For Free Snacks

Well isn’t this a smart little ad campaign.

Australian company Fantastic is testing just what people will do for free food. In order to promote their “Fantastic Delites” flavored rice snack, they’ve set up an interactive vending machine that tests people’s dedication.

The machine, called the Delite-o-Matic, starts off small by asking snackers to tap a button 100 times. Then it ups the ante, asking them to tap a couple hundred times. Finally, the demented machine makes a poor girl hit the button 5,000 times for a box of crackers.

Eventually, the challenges get a bit more interesting – dancing and idol worship, to be exact. Check it out below:

They’ve also set up an online vending machine that you can interact with for the chance to win prizes.

Although we already know some of the depraved lengths people will go to for a Klondike bar, the Delite-o-Matic promises that this is only the beginning. What could this vending machine ask people to do in the future? I can only imagine the worst…

  • Yeah, But Which One’s Chandler? Game of Thrones Gets A Friends Makeover

I like Friends. And if you have a problem with that, well, FINE BY ME. Sure, watching it now it feels a bit dated, and that’s not just an effect of Lisa Kudrow’s overalls. But damnit, there’s no way I’m going to be shamed by Friends haters out there. If nothing else, let’s all remember Jennifer Aniston and white tank tops.

I also love Game of Thrones, but it’s doubtful that I’ll meet any resistance on that one.

Putting the two together produces exactly what you’d think – a pure delight.

The internet is filled with its share of TV show/movie reimaginings that attempt to paint the original in a new light. Viral vids like “Shining,” a classic that turns Kubrick’s The Shining into a family comedy, have proven that all you need is some clever editing and the right music and anything can be misrepresented.

That maxim holds true here, as I’m sure you already know what song you’re about to hear as the new soundtrack for Westeros.

Oh, and just because, here’s Chandler Bing dancing on the Bing logo:
