  • Johnny Weir Divorce Is Getting Messy

Johnny Weir dominated headlines this year at the winter Olympic games in Sochi as one of the figure skating commentators, but now he’s in the news for a much less happy reason; his divorce from husband Victor Voronov.

Weir said in a recent interview that he’s been unhappy in the relationship for a while and claimed that Voronov was violent, which made things worse.

“I have been having a tough time at home for a long time now, and it’s something that I’ve kept from the public,” he said on Access Hollywood. “I was losing myself being married to my husband. I was losing my objectives in life. I was very isolated from the world….We were fighting in such a terrible way, and it did get physical on that night, and it’s unfortunate that things went the way that it did because domestic violence is never the way to go. Domestic violence is never the answer and when it’s two men, things are different. It was usually good-humored wrestling, but a few times, of course, it did get physical and … some of my closest friends have seen him hit me before.”

However, Voronov tells a very different story and says that he was surprised to learn just last week that Weir had filed for divorce months ago. He also says that Weir took things from the home that didn’t belong to him, including 40 Balencia bags, 20 Furs, a Cartier gold watch, two Birken bags, and 12 Chanel bags, and that he took their dog, Tëma. Voronov is asking for shared custody of the animal.

In Voronov’s counterclaim for divorce, he states that Weir was unfaithful on several occasions and “committed acts of adultery, including but not limited to: with a Chicago club owner; and, during the summer of 2013, performed oral sex on another man and engaged in a threesome while at a hotel in Los Angeles; and, engaged in a sexting relationship with a porn star, ‘Michael Lucas.’” He also claims that Weir was the abusive one, and would take out his anger on Voronov when he didn’t get his way.

Weir has not commented publicly on Voronov’s claims but has said that the interview he gave to Access Hollywood is the only one in which he will talk about the divorce.

  • Victor Voronov Devastated Over Split From Johnny Weir

Victor Voronov was absolutely shocked by Johnny Weir’s decision to file for divorce.

According to People, Voronov’s legal crisis manager Wendy Feldman revealed that he’s terribly saddened about their break-up.

“He’s totally heartbroken. Victor entered the marriage for one purpose only – because he loved Johnny,” she said.

“He took a big life-changing risk in entering the marriage, because he wasn’t out [as gay]. He’s devastated,” she explained.

“His family and friends are rallying around him and supporting him right now,” Feldman adds.

On Thursday, Mar. 14, Weir sat down for an exclusive interview with Billy Bush of Access Hollywood.

The famed figure skater described his marriage to the Russian lawyer as “threatening.” He also admitted that there were times when their arguments even escalated into physical altercations.

“It wasn’t often, but…we’re boys, boys fight, boys wrestle boys,” Weir told Bush. “It was usually good humored wrestling, but a few times, of course, it did get physical and…some of my closest friends have seen him hit me before.”

But, there have also been times when Weir has fought back. The publication reports that the two were involved in a domestic dispute prior to him traveling to Sochi, Russia, for the Winter Olympics. “I was defending myself and it’s unfortunate that there was a mark left on his body because as soon as the police came to our home, the first thing he did was show this mark,” Weir says. “I knew then he didn’t really care that much and all he is out to do is hurt me.”

However, People also shed light on the marriage from Voronov’s point of view. His lawyer Susan Reach Winters of the Budd Larner legal firm in Short Hills, NJ revealed details about the domestic dispute from a difference perspective.

“Johnny convinced Victor to dismiss the domestic violence complaint with promises that they were going to work on their marriage, so Victor went along with that, not know[ing] that Johnny had already filed a complaint for divorce,” Winters said.

If what Winters said is true, Voronov was definitely blindsided by Weir’s decision to proceed with the divorce. Voronov and Weir married in New York City back in 2011.
