  • Veena Malik And Husband Appeal 26-Year Blasphemy Sentence

Bollywood actress Veena Malik and her husband Asad Bashir Khan reportedly filed an appeal on Monday in response to a most bizarre court ruling.

Last week, the pair were hit with a ‘blasphemy’ conviction, for which the punishment included thousands of dollars in fees and a 26-year prison sentence.

A Pakistan court made the ruling following months of outrage over the appearance of Malik and Khan in a mock wedding where some viewers believed that the two made an unwelcome reference to the wedding of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad’s daughter.

Veena Malik had admitted that she didn’t expect the backlash to be so severe, expecting it to go away overnight.

However, Malik said that she and her husband had multiple criminal complaints filed against them by the time they left Pakistan.

Undeterred, the actress is fighting back in an effort to clear her name.

“[My husband and I] are very happy to see our voice has been heard in all corners of the world,” said Veena. “All the leading publications from the world over have covered the issue strongly.”

Not only are international news sources reporting the unusual case, but DNA reports that Amnesty International is taking up Malik’s case. With multiple human rights organizations watching the case closely, Veena Malik feels very confident that her family will experience a just outcome.

More so than the accusation of blasphemy, Malik said that she feels hurt that her obedience to her faith is being called into question.

“As a Muslim, I strongly believe in the institution of Islam and [h]old the Holy Prophet PBUH and His respectable family and the Sahaba e Karam at the highest esteem and regard,” said Veena Malik.

She said it was outside of her “wildest imagination” that she could ever be part of a scandal that ” directly or indirectly disrespects” her religious faith.

Rather than stand down, Veena felt it was important to set a positive example and stand up to what she believed was unjust treatment.

Said Veena Malik, “I would request each and every person who believes in basic human rights to stand up and be my voice against this unfair verdict.”

  • Veena Malik Jail Sentence Shocker: Actress Stunned At 26-Year Sentence

28-year-old Veena Malik and her husband, 30-year-old businessman Asad Bashir Khattak, were both stunned at the news that a court in Pakistan found them guilty of blasphemy.

On top of that, the two were given a rather harsh 26-year sentence.

“I thought [the controversy] was just something that would die down,” Malik said. “By the time I left [the country, first information reports] were registering in each and every corner of the world.”

First information reports or FIRs are court documents complaining of a criminal offense.

Even though Veena Malik is a native to Pakistan, she owes much of her current fame to her Bollywood stardom.

She experienced major backlash when she and her husband appeared on air in a mock wedding said to celebrate their recent wedding.

According to the Daily Mail, Veena Malik was said to be stunned at the treatment she received “from [her] own people”.

The mentioning of the prophet Muhammad’s daughter and supposed giggles was interpreted as a sign of massive disrespect.

As such, citizens across Pakistan were very upset with everyone involved in the production and airing of the scene, including Veena Malik.

The actress was reportedly so distraught by the controversy when it first occurred that she feared she might experience a miscarriage.

Fortunately, she didn’t; Malik gave birth to now two-month old son Abram.

During an exclusive interview with the Mail, Veena Malik continued to speak out about the ruling.

“As a person who has served humanity for 14 years, this is not the treatment I was expecting,” said Malik. “I am still in disbelief that Muslim woman, a daughter, a mother, a sister and a wife can be treated like that.”

Veena added that as a Muslim, she knew “what blasphemy is”, and felt that her actions did not qualify.

She admitted that she fled Pakistan for her own safety and that of her unborn baby. She and her husband are currently living in Dubai.

Even though Veena Malik is a native to Pakistan, she owes much of her current fame to her Bollywood stardom.

Veena Malik has been the subject of controversy in the past, but mainly due to her sexy image.

  • Veena Malik: Does She Think “India Sucks”?

Pakistani actress Veena Malik is reportedly in hot water over a hateful tweet posted.

Via Twitter account @iVeenaMalik, an unverified account, the actress is purported to have tweeted “India sucks!” to the world. This is kinda awkward considering the fact that Malik owes much of her fame to India.

The 30-year-old model/actress is known to many across India thanks to having appeared the Mumbai-based reality show Bigg Boss. It is an appearance that is credited with re-igniting a stalled career.

What would cause Malik to say something about a place that made her famous?

It’s understood that the emotion behind the tweet was due to news that a German student was sexually assaulted by an autodriver in Delhi.

As you know, there is a great deal of negative press about the molestation and rape of women in India. It has led to a lot of negative opinions about the country in the international community.

Despite the alleged story behind the tweet, it has drawn a great deal of criticism from a number of individuals:

Malik has well over 116,000 followers, so it’s easy to see how what she said managed to spread so fast.

In the end, the actress opted to do what many celebrities do when faced with Twitter backlash over an unpopular, potentially career-ruining comment. Instead of owning up to the tweet, Malik is saying that her Twitter account was hacked.

Malik is blaming ex-boyfriend Prashant Singh for the tweet. She told The Times of India:

My Twitter account was hacked in [December of last year] by my digital manager from India, Prashant…I had a three-year contract with his company, but after two years I chose to discontinue the association. [A]fter I got married, Prashant started blackmailing me. He started demanding money and said that he would not give me my account details otherwise.

Whether or not you believe what Malik has said, it’s clear that the remark has gotten the world talking about her. This could explain why the tweet is still up on the account and why she recently retweeted an article about what happened.

  • Veena Malik Says She’d Pose Nude In Playboy

Pakistani model and actress Veena Malik said recently that she would be willing to pose nude in Playboy for $1 million, despite the firestorm she set off with Muslim extremists for a controversial topless FHM cover shoot.

“I’d think about it. Why would I say no? It’s a great opportunity. I’d definitely go for that,” she told Mirror.

It’s widely viewed as a bad decision, however, given the enemies she made by appearing nude for FHM; a call for her citizenship to be revoked was the least of her worries when Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani militant group behind the brutal 2008 attack on Mumbai, made it known they were not happy with her.

“She has made fun of all Muslim women and brought shame to the entire nation. Veena Malik will be dealt with accordingly on her return to Pakistan,” the group said in a statement.

After receiving death threats, Malik scared fans and friends when she briefly went missing last year while filming a movie, but later said she was just “resting“.
