  • Gwyneth Paltrow Calls Truce with VF’s Graydon Carter

Gwyneth Paltrow has been in the middle of a publicized battle with Vanity Fair’s editor-in-chief Graydon Carter. However, the Christmas spirit may have intervened in this feud as US Weekly reported that the two parties recently worked through their disagreement. According to an insider, “Gwyneth and Graydon spoke on the phone a few weeks ago. They worked out some of their differences.”

The feud began when Carter directed Hollywood writer Vanessa Grigoriadis to focus on Paltrow for an article in the magazine where the content upset the A-list celebrity. Allegations speculated that Paltrow was involved in an affair with Miami billionaire Jeff Soffer. The popular Iron Man star was so put off by the article that she requested her friends not to speak on her behalf and to boycott events associated with the magazine.

According to Page Six, the star sent an email asking her friends to do the following: “Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine. If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

In an October interview with London’s Times Magazine Carter said, “We started a story on her. We have a very good writer and it’ll run.”

Paltrow recently spoke with Red U.K. about her method for handling allegations. “The older I get I realize it doesn’t matter what people who don’t know you think. It doesn’t matter. You’re wasting your energy. It’s like, if your partner comes to you — or your best friend — and says, like, ‘Listen, I want to talk about something you did that hurt me, or I think you could improve,’ sit down and listen to what they have to say. But some friend of so-and-so’s — it’s like, who gives a s–t?”

  • Gwyneth Paltrow And Graydon Carter End Feud

Nothing says fame like a celebrity feud between an actress and the editor-in-chief of a pop culture, fashion, and current affairs magazine. And obviously such a feud can only end one way – with a bit of Christmas cheer.

The feud being discussed here is between actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Vanity Fair boss Graydon Carter. The feud was over an upcoming profile on Paltrow to be featured in the magazine.

Paltrow tried blocking the piece that Carter had reportedly assigned Hollywood writer Vanessa Grigoriadis to write. She even e-mailed her friends saying, “Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine . . . If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

At the time, Carter still had plans to run the article in Vanity Fair. “We started a story on her. We have a very good writer, and it’ll run,” said Carter in October.

But it seems the two have worked out their problems. An insider told US Weekly, “Gwyneth and Graydon spoke on the phone a few weeks ago. They worked out some of their differences.”

If Vanity Fair chooses to run an article on the actress it will be less damning than originally planned. Said the “insider”, “There may be a story, but it won’t be as bad as it originally was going to be.”

Many people thought the original article would include information about the alleged infidelity within Paltrow’s marriage, which she has denied. A source said, “The story was never going to be as bad as tabloids were guessing. That whole angle about the alleged affairs was something that was made up by Page Six and was never something that anyone at Vanity Fair believed was legitimate and was never going to be in a story they were working on.”

There is one person who is not happy that the piece will no longer run in Vanity Fair.

  • Nicole Kidman Labels Marriage With Tom Cruise “Intoxicating”

Even though Hawaii-born actress and singer Nicole Kidman is well known for her marriage to Tom Cruise, they both have encountered their ups and downs together during the duration of their marriage. The drama between Kidman and Cruise has attracted a lot of media attention, especially concerning their adopted children. Recently, in an issue of Vanity Fair, Kidman tells the well-known magazine that her relationship with Cruise was “intoxicating.”

According to ABC News, Kidman elaborated on her marriage with Cruise to the pop culture magazine and stated “I was so young, and you know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I’ve met my great love now.” The love that Kidman is talking about is New Zealand-born country singer Keith Urban, who Kidman married in 2006 (according to The Mirror).

Apart from labeling the marriage between Kidman and Cruise as “intoxicating,” the ABC News article stated that Kidman described her marriage to Cruise as a “surreal level of fame.” Kidman elaborated on this by saying:

“There is something about that sort of existence that, if you really focus on each other and you’re in that bubble, it’s very intoxicating, because it’s just the two of you, and there is only one other person that’s going through it. So it brings you very close, and it’s deeply romantic.”

Kidman and Urban (who recently became a judge on American Idol) live a low-key life in Nashville, Tennessee, along with their two biological daughters. Kidman has been taking a break from the Hollywood scene for a while and reflected on her time in Hollywood and describes the following experience with Vanity Fair:

“The whole business side of it — it’s too present. It doesn’t suit me. There’s an enormous amount you have to give up if you want to have a family. You can have a certain career, but you can’t be living in Hollywood, [where] absolutely everything, everything revolves around it. That wasn’t my choice. I’d rather revolve around somebody else’s career and then still find my own.”

Commenting on her married relationship with Urban, Kidman stated “My husband and I are in uncharted territory because we’re trying to find artistic expression but also we’re incredibly connected as a family — we’re very, very tight, very, very close, and I have a very, very primal protection of my family.”

Urban has also been in the news recently. According to an article on NZCity’s website, the country-singing American Idol judged now has “Nicole” etched on his right arm, printed in script lettering.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow: Vanity Fair Investigating An Affair

Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly asked her celebrity friends recently not to divulge any information about her to the press should they be asked–specifically Vanity Fair–in an email that was eventually leaked to the media. Editor-in-chief Graydon Carter has confirmed that they are indeed working on a story about Paltrow, and there’s been some speculation that it won’t be a pretty one. Now, rumor has it that the magazine is doing the piece on a possible affair between the actress and billionaire hotelier Jeff Soffer.

“She has been friends for him for a long time. Chris [Martin] is friends with him as well. He flew down a dozen friends. There was no romantic relationship,” said Paltrow’s rep.

But something sure has Paltrow spooked, if the leaked email has been quoted correctly. In it, she pleads with her friends not to comment on anything to the magazine and even urges them not to associate themselves with it.

“Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine,” Paltrow reportedly wrote. “If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

As for Carter, he says that Paltrow’s email has only “forced his hand” when it comes to running the article.

“We wouldn’t be doing our job if there wasn’t a little bit of tension between Vanity Fair and its subjects,” he said. “In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington, or on Wall Street. That’s the nature of the beast.”

  • Gwyneth Paltrow Upset Over Impending Vanity Fair Article

Gwyneth Paltrow recently sent an email around to her friends asking them not to comment for Vanity Fair if contacted by the magazine, and the email was leaked because of course it was. Now, the magazine has confirmed that there is a story about Paltrow in the works even though she doesn’t want to be their cover girl, and rumor has it that the tale isn’t going to be pretty.

“We started a story on her,” editor-in-chief Graydon Carter told the Times of London. “We have a very good writer and it’ll run.”

In the email, Paltrow urged her celebrity friends not to associate themselves with the magazine anymore, and it’s been widely speculated that Vanity Fair‘s recent takedown pieces on Hollywood are to blame.

“Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine,” Paltrow reportedly wrote. “If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

Carter says that Paltrow’s condemnation has only made him want to do the story that much more and that she “forced his hand” with that email. But if he’s surprised at the star’s reaction, he isn’t showing it.

“We wouldn’t be doing our job if there wasn’t a little bit of tension between Vanity Fair and its subjects,” he said. “In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington, or on Wall Street. That’s the nature of the beast.”

  • Beyonce and Husband Jay-Z Top Vanity Fair’s Power Players List

Its definitely that time again for Vanity Fair. The 2013 unveiling of “The New Establishment” has been released. The ever-popular list encompasses 25 candidates including prominent musicians, business magnates, CEOs, and fashion designers. However, it’s no surprise who tops the list this year.

First they topped “Forbes: Most Powerful Couples” list last month. Now, they’ve taken over Vanity Fair. That’s right! Beyonce and Jay-Z head the list of elite ‘power players’ in this year’s “New Establishment.”

“The New Establishment” determines ranks based on global conquests, professional accolades, financial growth, and notable business mergers and acquisitions. The list also features an entertaining “Off the Clock” column for each candidate, which equates to a “Things You Didn’t Know” briefing that offers little known facts about those in discussion.

The ’03 Bonnie and Clyde’ jumped up an impressive seven spots from last year’s Vanity list where they landed in the No. 8 slot. Earning approximately $95 million last year, the power couple has definitely made great strides on stage and in the board room.

Beyonce kicked the year off with a jaw-dropping Super Bowl performance that took the world by storm. However, the Super Bowl performance actually served as just a mere teasing prelude to her “Mrs. Carter” tour, which sold approximately $2 million a night.

Jay-Z also garnered a massive financial gain with the “Watch the Throne” tour with rapper, Kanye West. As one of rap’s most highly publicized tours, it brought in an estimated $1.4 million a night in the United States alone. His latest 30-day stadium tour, “Legends of the Summer” also grossed an estimated $69.75 million collectively.

The dynamic duo also had a number of other business investments that raked in sizable profits. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation empire and Beyonce’s House of Dereon clothing line both saw financial gains over the past year. Jay-Z also sold his share in the Barclay Center and the Brooklyn Nets for a decent profit. However, Jay-Z’s most recent feat was the success of his latest album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” The album was certified platinum by the RIAA before it even hit stores due to the success of the Samsung pre-order deal he acquired months prior to the album’s release.

The power couple also has a total of 34 Grammys collectively, coincidentally winning 17 a piece. The steep number of wins is definitely a record-breaking, unprecedented feat.

The “Off the Clock” column in “The New Establishment” also revealed fun facts about the couple. According to Vanity, Beyonce informed GQ Magazine that she’s actually had a ‘mini-reality documentary’ of her personal life in full swing since 2005. Jay-Z also revealed, in a light-hearted moment while tweeting, that his favorite cereal was Cap’n Crunch.

Although, the world may see them as ‘superheroes’ Queen Bey and ‘Jay Hova’ are just humans like everyone else. They just ‘happened’ to top the Forbes list and Vanity Fair.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow Boycotts Vanity Fair

    Gwyneth Paltrow Boycotts Vanity Fair

Gwyneth Paltrow is at odds with Vanity Fair and it’s long-time editor, Graydon Carter, over it’s recently tougher stance with celebrities. The New York Times ran a story on Sunday claiming some celebrities and their publicists are upset that the magazine has toughened its coverage on Hollywood and its stars. The piece cited recent examples in the magazine about Brad Pitt’s “World War Z” production disaster and the effect of Scientology on Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ marriage.

In May, Paltrow reportedly appeared willingly on the covers of People and Good Housekeeping, but refused Vanity Fair’s offer. In an email obtained by the Times, Paltrow allegedly wrote to friends at the time:

“Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine. If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

Carter released this statement in response to reports about Paltrow and her posse boycotting the mag:

“We wouldn’t be doing our job if there wasn’t a little bit of tension between Vanity Fair and its subjects. In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington, or on Wall Street. That’s the nature of the beast.”

Carter is very influential in the higher circles, leaving many to suggest that her actions and protest are a career risk. He also hosts the hightly anticipated annual Vanity Fair post-Oscar party.

But it may not matter anymore, as the Times notes, ” Celebrities and their publicists can now circumvent traditional media outlets and communicate with their fans directly through Twitter and Facebook.”

Beth Kseniak, a Vanity Fair spokeswoman, provided three Hollywood moguls to speak about how influential the magazine remains in Hollywood. One of them, Harvey Weinstein, who said he reads Vanity Fair for film ideas, said a mention in its pages was “the Good Housekeeping seal of approval in the media world” for a movie.

“Nobody in our industry can put together a guest list like Graydon Carter,” Mr. Weinstein said.

Leslee Dart, a publicist whose clients include Tom Hanks, Woody Allen and Meryl Streep, agrees, telling the paper, “I don’t think people care the way they used to anymore. It’s not important to them to grovel as they once did. Magazines are less relevant.”

Hopefully Ms. Dart is correct, for Gwyneth’s sake.

Olivia Wilde As A Showgirl And A Magician

Olivia Wilde is amping up the sexy factor in two new photos that have just hit the web; one is for Vanity Fair’s “Hollywood Issue”, in which she’s depicted as a gorgeous, feather-clad showgirl, and the other is the promotional poster for “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone”.

Wilde plays “The Amazing Jane” and is featured on the poster in a sassy little Victorian-inspired costume–complete with top hat–with a bunny.

“The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” hits theaters March 15th.

  • Truman Capote Story: Lost Chapter Appears

Truman Capote Story: Lost Chapter Appears

A previously unpublished chapter of Truman Capote’s book “Answered Prayers” has been discovered and will be published in the December issue of Vanity Fair.

Capote famously stalled the book’s publication by missing deadlines, despite being offered more and more money to complete it. By the time the last deadline was missed, the publication advance was up to $1 million, but he was still unable to finish it. The chapters he’d completed were put together in an edition of Esquire Magazine in the early ’80s, but it was widely known that the story was incomplete. The discovery of this lost chapter is one more piece in the peculiar puzzle that was Capote.

The chapter, entitled “Yachts And Things”, is much shorter than the others, which has sent much speculation around those who’ve followed and documented Capote’s career.

“The title, ‘Yachts and Things’, is indeed the title of one of the chapters he planned for ‘Answered Prayers’,” biographer Gerald Clarke said. “But that chapter would have been much longer than six pages … I don’t know why this one was not published. My guess is that he thought it fell short in some way.”

Capote had many of his high-society friends in an uproar over the book after they discovered it was, by and large, about them and their scandalous lives. He was known to create waves in the literary world, breaking through in 1948 with his novel “Other Voices, Other Rooms” and later, creating the best-selling “In Cold Blood”, which many think was actually written by his good friend since childhood, “To Kill A Mockingbird” author Harper Lee.

  • Lindsay Lohan Tweets Mysterious Message To Tom Cruise

Lindsay Lohan has an interesting Twitter feed. Every now and then, buried between retweets from various adoring fans, you can find a gem of a post, either in the form of a rant, a random observation about life, or a cryptic message. Today, we got the latter.

While no one is sure of what it means just yet, it’s almost certainly going to boost sales for Vanity Fair’s next issue.

Hat tip to Buzzfeed for the tweet.

  • Don’t Leave Microsoft For Google Or Else Steve Ballmer Will Throw A Chair

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Microsoft has never been a fan of Google. To that I would say, “You are right, dear reader,” but did you know that Microsoft really doesn’t like Google. You could maybe even say that it’s a hatred most foul.

This month’s issue of Vanity Fair has a wonderful-sounding story called “How Microsoft Lost Its Mojo.” I’ve never read Vanity Fair in my life, but this sounds like one of those juicy stories that the tech geek in me would love to read. While the piece in question isn’t online yet, Beta Beat got their hands on a copy and let us know what is contained therein.

While the piece talks in length about the many times Microsoft failed to be the first in line at innovation, it’s one part in particular that’s really great. There apparently was a time when a Microsoft engineer left for Google and Steve Ballmer threw a chair. Wow, apparently we got a badass over here, but wait, it gets better. After venting his anger by throwing furniture, he reportedly told the traitor engineer this:

“Fucking Eric Schmidt is a fucking pussy!” Ballmer yelled, according to the court document. “I’m going to fucking bury that guy! I have done it before and I will do it again. I’m going to fucking kill Google.”

So that was in 2004. Has Ballmer made good on his threat? Not really, as Google’s stocks sit around $597 a share while Microsoft’s is a paltry $30 a share. Of course, looking at pure market worth isn’t fair.

Let’s take a look at the technology as well. Latest report from Net Market Share pegs Android as owning 19.73 percent of the smartphone market. Windows Phone is categorized in other and only makes up for 1.42 percent.

More damning, Google announced the Nexus 7 for a release this month at $200 and has already shown off plenty of content. Microsoft showed off its Surface tablet and didn’t even manage to show a single piece of impressive software running on the device nor did they announce a price.

The only thing that Microsoft still has the upper hand over Google on is operating systems. We could chalk that up to how entrenched Windows is all over the world though. Google’s Chrome OS just hasn’t had a chance to really wow anybody besides developers yet.

Don’t take this as me hating on Microsoft though. I love them and I love Windows. I think the Surface looks fantastic from a technology standpoint, but I don’t know if it can compete with the low price and entertainment friendly Nexus 7, Kindle Fire or the almighty iPad.

Microsoft has made some goofs in the past and hopefully this Vanity Fair article will help them realize that they’re no longer the dominant force in tech. They make great software and they might even make great hardware one day. We just can’t forget the one time that Ballmer lost his cool and called Schmidt a “fucking pussy.”

  • Scarlett Johansson’s Image Showcased On Porn Shop’s Business Card

An adult superstore cleverly dubbed “VIP” unlawfully used an image of Scarlett Johansson and used it on their business cards. The Spanish-speaking sex shop in Calexico, CA sells a variety of naughty time toys, lubes, essential oils, and porn.

The manager of the shop claims to be completely ignorant of copyright user infringement and told TMZ:

“What does it have to do with the business card? I don’t know who Scarlett Johansson is.”

And went on to explain that it was the company that he ordered the cards from that decided that Scarlett would be their cover girl.

This is not the first time that the actresses image has been used for the wrong reasons. One man hacked into her phone and posted racy images of her all over the internet.

Johansson told Vanity Fair that she shot the photos for Ryan Reynolds, who was her husband at the time.
