  • Kristhielee Caride: Why Was Miss Universe Puerto Rico Stripped of Her Crown?

Kristhielee Caride: Why Was Miss Universe Puerto Rico Stripped of Her Crown?

Kristhielee Caride was Puerto Rico’s representative in the upcoming 2016 Miss Universe Pageant, but on Thursday the beauty queen was stripped of her crown.

Director of the Miss Universe Puerto Rico pageant, Desiree Lowry, made the announcement during a press conference earlier this week.

“I saw the damage that she was doing and the damage that she was doing to the organization,” she said.

What kind of “damage” did Kristhielee Caride do to the Miss Universe Puerto Rico organization? Is there some sort of hidden scandal behind her pretty face?

Surprisingly, no. Usually when pageant winners are stripped of their crowns, something inappropriate from their past has surfaced in the media. Do you remember when Miss America Vanessa Williams was stripped of her crown back in 1984? Nude photos of Williams in sexually explicit poses with other women came back to haunt the aspiring actress and accomplished singer, costing her the title of Miss America.

Kristhielee Caride, however, did nothing of the sort. She simply doesn’t like cameras, and she made that dislike known–during an interview with a newspaper in Puerto Rico.

“I just do not like cameras,” she said.

“I wanted the earth to swallow me,” Lowry said of watching the interview, according to the Associated Press. “You always have to put your best face forward…it’s a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions.”

Kristhielee Caride never apologized for what Lowry calls “the unfortunate interview,” and therefore the director decided it was time for her to go. She later apologized via Facebook in a post that has since been removed.

Brenda Jiminez has been crowned the new Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2016, taking Kristhielee Caride’s place.

It was no doubt devastating to be stripped of her crown, but surely Kristhielee Caride knew that being in front of cameras is a big part of being Miss Universe Puerto Rico.

Kristhielee Caride was set to represent Puerto Rico in the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant, but on Thursday she was stripped of her crown.

Desiree Lowry is the director of the Miss Universe Puerto Rico pageant. She made the announcement during a press conference.

“I saw the damage that she was doing and the damage that she was doing to the organization,” she said.

What did Kristhielee Caride do that caused the pageant director to speak of her in this manner? Did the pageant discover sexually explicit photos of her from years back–the way the Miss America Pageant found shots of Vanessa Williams in very explicit poses with other women–back in the 1980s?

No. Kristhielee Caride did nothing of the sort. The beauty queen simply doesn’t like having her picture taken.

It seems Desiree Lowry was with Kristhelee Caride for an interview with a local newspaper in Puerto Rico.

“I just do not like cameras,” the beauty queen said.

In a lengthy post on Facebook, Kristhielee Caride finally made her apology.

In place of Kristhielee Caride, Brenda Jiminez has been crowned the new Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2016.

While it must have been devastating to be stripped of her crown, Kristhielee Caride no doubt knew going in to the pageant that being photographed and interviewed with simply part of the plan.

  • Miss Georgia, Betty Cantrell, Crowned Miss America After Answering ‘Deflategate’ Question

Miss Georgia, Betty Cantrell, was crowned Miss America on Sunday night, but not before she was asked a question about the recent New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s recent debacle–better known as “Deflategate.”

Before receiving her crown, Miss Georgia not only contended with the “Deflategate” issue, she also watched the pageant apologize to Vanessa Williams. Williams was the first black woman crowned as Miss America back in 1984. The pageant took back the crown and stripped her of her title after pictures of her surfaced in Penthouse magazine.

Vanessa Williams was one of the Miss America pageant judges this weekend who was responsible for awarding the top prize to Miss Georgia.

Unfortunately, Betty Cantrell didn’t win any fans from the New England area with the way she answered the “Deflategate” question.

She was asked whether New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady cheated en route to his team’s run to a Super Bowl title last season by using footballs that were improperly deflated.

“I’m not sure,” Miss Georgia said when asked if Brady cheated.

“I’d have to see the ball and feel it” she said, before adding, “If there’s any question, then yes, he cheated.”

Hopefully Miss Georgia–the newly-crowned Miss America–doesn’t make too many trips to Massachusetts while enjoying her reign.

Has a Miss America winner ever been booed or had tomatoes thrown at her before? Miss Georgia could be the first.

Miss Georgia’s win signified the end of a run for Miss New York contestants in the pageant. Last year’s Miss America, Kira Kazantsev, was the third consecutive winner from New York.

Did you watch the Miss America Pageant on Sunday night?

Were you excited to see Miss Georgia win the crown, or did you have another state in mind for the win instead?

  • AnnaLynne McCord Dating Retired Lakers Player Rick Fox

AnnaLynne McCord has a new man in her life. She is dating retired Lakers small forward Rick Fox. And despite their age difference–he is 45 and she is 27–the two seem very happy together.

People magazine reports that the two were spotted together in Arizona this weekend at a pre-Super Bowl function, and they didn’t hide their PDA. Fox arrived at the event ahead of AnnaLynne McCord, who joined him shortly thereafter.

“As soon as she arrived they were together for the rest of the evening,” a source told People. “They were really cute, holding hands, and even while fans asked Rick to take pics he held her hand while he took pics with them.”

Later in the evening AnnaLynne McCord was overheard referring to Fox as her “boyfriend” and the two posed together for photos, too.

Rick Fox was married to Vanessa Williams for five years. He was most recently linked to actress Eliza Dushku, but the two split up last year.

The Nip/Tuck and 90210 star dated Dominic Purcell for three years. The two broke up in December.

AnnaLynne McCord made news back in June when she went public about having been raped as a teenager. She became an advocate for survivors of sexual assault, as well as those who endured human trafficking, as a result of her own assault.

“I needed to rescue [myself]. Now that I rescued [myself], I rescue those girls and do the right things for the right reasons,” she said when she went public about being sexually assaulted.

Hopefully both AnnaLynne McCord and Rick Fox have found love in their relationship. With both having just emerged from ended relationships, however, do you think it’s way too soon to expect that?

  • Eliza Dushku Splits with Rick Fox, Moves to Boston

Eliza Dushku and Rick Fox have called it quits after a five-year relationship.

The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star and the retired NBA player have decided it’s time to go their separate ways, prompting Dushku to move back to her hometown of Boston.

“Rick’s an L.A. guy and I’m a Boston girl,” she told The Boston Globe.

Dushku, 33, told The Globe that she recently bought a condo near Watertown and is planning to go back to begin her studies towards a bachelor’s degree.

“It helps me navigate the stories that I want to tell in areas that are interesting to me,” she told The Los Angeles Times.

Dushku said she’s looking forward to living on the East Coast after 22 years in L.A.

“I’d rather be a little physically cold here than emotionally cold in L.A.,” she said. “I missed my town and my family.”

Duskhu said she plans to focus her studies on psychological and sociological behavior, knowing that it will be useful to her as a director and actress.

“I’m actually looking to go back to school,” she told the Los Angeles Times‘ Hero Complex in March. “One of the areas that’s so interesting to me — and obviously it played out in the show ‘Dollhouse’ — are these deep crevasses of our brains and our emotions that make us tick, and what those combinations and variables are that are looked at in projects like [‘Gable 5’] and projects like ‘Dollhouse.’”

Although her education is her primary focus for the near future, the Dollhouse actress does not plan on completely foregoing acting.

“I have a new life right now,” said Dushku. “I’m on kind of a different path for the time being.”

Could it be that differing opinions on fashion could be a factor in their split?

In 2010, Dushku said living with the basketball pro opened her eyes to his lack of fashion sense.

“I never believed he was a bad dresser” until they moved in together, she said. “We’re in the middle of moving the clothes. The clothes were at one place and he kind of had to pick from the surviving things that he didn’t bring to the house.”

Dushku began dating Fox, 44, in 2009 and they moved in together in 2010. He was previously married to Vanessa Williams, with whom he has a daughter. He also has a son from a previous relationship.

  • Cicely Tyson in ‘The Trip to Bountiful’: From Broadway to Lifetime

Cicely Tyson in ‘The Trip to Bountiful’: From Broadway to Lifetime

Horton Foote’s 1953 television play plans to make another TV debut this coming weekend.

Lifetime’s rendition, The Trip to Bountiful, will recreate the original story.

The story first aired on NBC in 1953 and then went on Broadway the following year. In 1985, it was made into a Hollywood film featuring Geraldine Page and then made another Broadway comeback just last year.

One legendary actress who is excited to see her Broadway role on-camera is Cicely Tyson.

Tyson plays Carrie “Mother” Watts, whose final wish is to see her childhood home one last time before she dies.

The elderly woman lives in a small Houston, TX apartment along with her son Ludie (Blair Underwood) and his handful-of-a-wife Jessie Mae (Vanessa Williams).

For the most part, Mother Watts feels trapped and really desires to revisit her hometown Bountiful. However, her overprotective son forbids it since she doesn’t have a vehicle.

There’s obvious tension in the home, as the two ladies don’t see eye-to-eye when it comes to the man that they both dearly love.

Jessie Mae can be quite self-centered and controlling towards Ludie, so it causes her husband to feel forever in the middle of the women’s drama.

Tyson describes William’s character as “a piece of work” and their relationship as the typical relationship between in-laws. She believes, however, that Mother Watts’ character possesses one of the strongest willpower throughout the story.

“She has within her a fighting spirit that cannot be denied, and that is what I like about her,” she said, according to The Buffalo News . “Her feeling that God has kept her here for a purpose she is yet to fulfill, and she is determined to do it despite the odds.”

Against her son’s wish, Mother Watts leaves home and hops on a train in hopes to see her hometown. She ends up meeting a friend on the train who helps her make her way back home. She then finds out that Bountiful is not the same as she remembers it. (image)

The film’s message is said to be one that will inspire you to respect and appreciate your elders, which Tyson helps  bring to life through her depiction.

Williams, who will also star in the re-created film, says that Tyson is an all around inspiring performer.

“I hope people get a chance to really see another spectacular performance from Cicely Tyson,” she said. “She informed me as an actress. People of a certain generation know her from ‘(The Autobiography of) Miss Jane Pittman,’ which was seared in our brains. To be able to see her again in such a pivotal role was an honor – to be with her and to watch her on a nightly basis.”

Tyson has already won a Tony Award for her recent Broadway performance. It’s safe to assume that this phenomenal actress will also add an Emmy to her award collection.

The Trip to Bountiful is scheduled to air on Lifetime this Saturday at 8 p.m.

  • Vanessa Williams Pens Tell-All, Says She Was Molested As A Child

The stunning former Miss America–the first African American woman ever to be given the title–calls her new book You Have No Idea and is not shy about opening up to readers about her childhood and teen years, when she says she was molested by an 18-year old girl and, several years later, became pregnant in high school and had an abortion.

“I’ve learned to embrace my past,” Williams said. “I embrace the choices that I have been given in my life.”

The book also goes a bit more in depth regarding the scandals the public has already been privy to, including nude photos of her at age 19 which surfaced in Penthouse and got her Miss America title revoked. The star’s mother, who co-wrote the book, says she was shocked to learn about such huge secrets, but that they explain some of her behavior as a teenager.

“…In retrospect, it kind of put into place some of her reactions during her pre-teen years,” Helen Williams said.

Molestation can cause an early sexualization that has lasting effects, and most of them are serious. Williams says she didn’t realize the full extent of what had happened to her; she only knew she was supposed to keep it a secret. Often, victims of sexual abuse are bullied into hiding what’s happening to them, causing shame and emotional issues.

Luckily, Williams has been able to overcome her past, moving on to a bright acting career (“Ugly Betty”, “Desperate Housewives”) and mothering four children. She is also a Grammy, Emmy, and Tony-award nominated performer
