  • How Outdoor Exploration Makes You More Productive

How Outdoor Exploration Makes You More Productive

Though national and local parks come to mind at the thought of outdoor exploration, RV campgrounds and parks are other great conduits for natural recreation. With as many as 14,000 in the United States alone, options for enjoying them are many.

Exploring mother nature has more immediate benefits too. Doing so has the ability to rebalance our industrialized lives with our humanity and human needs. Among children, building and fine motor skills are amplified alongside confidence. Memories with loved ones blossom through both outdoor exploration and repose. The physical activity made available by the natural environment gives our bodies a boost and the kinetic energy we crave. Nature also presents learning opportunities for both kids and adults of all ages as our senses continuously process new information and we discover new ways in which ecosystems interact and exist.

Americans suffer from a vacation deficit. More than 28 million United States employees are not given paid holidays or vacation time. Of the remaining U.S. adults who do, a staggering 55% don’t utilize all of their paid time off, staying wired for productivity. These statistics do not bode well against other higher-earning countries. The typical amount of paid leave for employees in the private sector is 10 days. Meanwhile, Finland triples this average, giving a numerical mean of 30 days. Finland’s also taken first place as the world’s happiest country for the past four consecutive years.

    Not Taking Off Enough Time

Americans take insufficient amounts of time off for a plethora of reasons. However, there seems to be heavy consensus on six. 61% report negligence towards repose at the fear of being deemed replaceable in their positions. 56% blame insufficient assistance and perceived forgiveness for overbearing tasks and assigned roles. With a significant population of pet parents, 54% struggle to find pet care and accommodations, keeping them from traveling. 54% prefer to dodge the stress and burdens of crafting itineraries and charting modes of transportation. 54% report worries regarding safety and peace of mind. 53% are deterred from vacationing due to expenses and lack of disposable income. Lastly, among U.S. adults who do use their vacation days, fewer than 50% use them to leave home.

Enjoying the outdoors has innumerable benefits and we must orient our time towards reaping them. Just twenty minutes of fresh air, three days each week, has been proven to enhance brain function, minimize stress, augment well-being, and better memory.

If exploring the wilderness, and the thrills of doing so are not your speed, outdoor attractions can still provide the refreshment of fresh air without the uncertainties posed by wildlife and remote environments. By visiting a water or theme park, you can cherish open air while enjoying modern stimulation. When renting a boat, kayaking, canoeing, or whitewater rafting, you can enjoy open waters, green surroundings, and vast blue sky from afloat. By sightseeing, and participating in local tours, you can see new places by foot or by bike while enjoying nature’s elements. Lastly, simple family-friendly adventures, like hayrides, mini-golf, and orchids can provide outdoor fun in low-risk ways.

    In Conclusion

Take care of yourself, as much as you take care of work. Then, you can reconnect with the gifts that mother nature endlessly offers.

  • Elsa Pataky Outshines Chris Hemsworth At “Vacation” Premiere

Elsa Pataky did the unthinkable. She out-glorified her husband, Chris Hemsworth, at the LA premiere of his new movie on Monday.

The Vacation star and Elsa Pataky looked amazing and man, does he clean up nice.

Chris Hemsworth wore a simply and classy suite, while Elsa Pataky worked a blush-colored lace mini dress and incredible nude stilettos.

Elsa Pataky’s dress was detailed in flowers with a ribbon waist accent.

Elsa Pataky was there to support her hubby in his new role as Stone Crandall in the National Lampoon’s Vacation sequel.

It’s nice to see Chris Hemsworth in anything, and it seems his co-stars may have sometimes had a difficult time not focusing on his presence, especially when it came to trying on a few prosthetic, um, man pieces.

Christina said, “We had all been standing at the bottom of the stairs after he had been doing some fittings upstairs; like should it get into position to go to the left or go to the right, longer, shorter … So finally they narrowed in on the hero penis, I guess! He came down and we were all clapping …”

But, it wasn’t just his incredible good looks and willingness to prance around in boxer briefs that made Applegate appreciate all he had to offer as an actor.

She said, “He’s this funny Australian dude who is really good at accents and he’s amazing and game for anything. When someone can make me laugh and is good at they’re job … I was definitely impressed.”

Are you excited to see Elsa Pataky’s hubby in the new Vacation?

  • Christina Applegate Talks Fear While Filming ‘Vacation’

Christina Applegate Talks Fear While Filming ‘Vacation’

Christina Applegate stars in the new film Vacation, that opens nationwide on Wednesday. She plays the wife of the original National Lampoon’s Vacation’s character Rusty–who is all grown up and married with two boys. Rusty is played by The Office’s Ed Helms.

Despite the fun of making this new movie–don’t call it a remake or a sequel, because it’s not–and enjoying the cameo appearances by the original Griswolds, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, and a trip to Wally World—-Christina Applegate admits to experiencing a great deal of fear while filming. One case in point was when she was hanging upside down on a stuck roller coaster ride.

“Hanging upside down is not something I ever need to do again. I thought that lights out were going to happen to me. I know it’s not dangerous, but it was not good for me. I didn’t enjoy that,” she said in a recent interview.

Christina Applegate is seven years out from her diagnosis of breast cancer and doing well–well enough, in fact, to engage in even more harrowing activity while filming.

Even though most of Vacation was filmed in and near Atlanta, the whole gang traveled to South Carolina for a white water rafting adventure.

“They had guys in wetsuits and rescue gear all down the thing because if you did fall out of the boat, you were gone, and you could drown,” she explains. “So there was an element of fear for me there, and when we were in that boat and the water would come and push it down, you really felt…I mean, a couple times I almost fell out.”

Did Christina Applegate grow up taking road trips like the Griswold family?

“We didn’t really do stuff like that, my mom and me. We struggled a lot, but we did go to Tijuana once in a car. That’s it. That’s all I got for you. We went to Tijuana,” she says.

Christina Applegate and Ed Helms look like the perfect couple to take a road trip with. Sons James and Kevin are played by Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins, respectfully. Applegate says they loved to make her laugh during filming.

“They made me laugh really hard. So any time we were doing scenes with them, they tickled me,” she says.

Christina Applegate also adds, “I’m a child of the ‘70s. You know what I mean? I was saying worse stuff when I was five than they were saying in this movie.”

Will you be checking out Christina Applegate and Ed Helms in Vacation?

Commissioned news story (Source: Holiday Cruise LIne)

Whether you are looking to plan the perfect family vacation or looking for a romantic getaway, cruises offer the perfect budget friendly vacation for everyone.

Among the most popular vacations for families this summer are Orlando, England, Jamaica, MSC Cruises, Tahiti, South Florida, and of course the Bahamas.

InsureMyTrip, a travel insurance comparison site, recently released a summer travel guide, which included the Caribbean in the top five. 25% of those pulled for a survey of U.S. travel plans indicated they will be taking cruises. Florida is a pretty great spot to start before soaking up some of the other popular spots.

Those looking for such a getaway should check out something like Holiday Cruise Line whose guest cruise on the Grand Celebration cruise ship which has been called “Florida’s best Bahama’s 2 night cruise”. The ship offers budget minded Bahamas cruises every other day from West Palm Beach to Grand Bahama Island.

You gotta love the idea of having so much to do without the stress of tracking down tourist attractions that comes with non-cruise vacations.

  • 5 Reasons to (Literally) Go Far in 2015

5 Reasons to (Literally) Go Far in 2015

Commissioned News Story (Source: Holiday Cruise Line)

By all accounts, 2015 will be a formidable year for travel for Americans. Here are 5 reasons why readers should consider taking a trip in 2015.

    1. It’s not as expensive as you think.

Perhaps you’re thinking you just don’t have the money to spare for a vacation. Well, you might just be wrong. Travel doesn’t have to break the bank, even when we’re talking about a cruise. You can cruise for up to 50% off in January and other off-season months.

Jackie Finley of Holiday Cruise Line says, “A lot of Americans are going to be surprised this year: prices are far lower than most families expect to pay for a getaway, regardless of how you plan to travel. At Holiday Cruise Line, we’ve seen evidence of a major shift for cruise travelers. Cruises were once considered an option only for wealthy Americans. Today, our customers are often surprised to find that cruises are far more affordable than they thought. 2015 is a formidable year for travel, and it’s a golden opportunity to try out a new mode of travel, including cruising.”

    2. Reward programs have long-term value.

If you join a rewards program, you could start getting discounts on several travel options, including flights, hotels, and rental cars.

As noted by Time, airlines free up more award seats as the departure date gets closer. The article suggests booking about a month ahead of time, noting that some carriers do charge extra for booking within 21 days.

    3. The dollar is stronger than ever.

This is great news for travelers. The AP reports that the stronger dollar has reduced the price of travel throughout many parts of the world. This helps with hotel prices, not to mention various fun activities.

    4. Travel actually keeps you healthy.

“It’s been shown time and time again by researchers: travel offers significant benefits for travelers, particularly regarding their health,” says Finley. “Travel can help you to relax, can take you away from the most stress-inducing elements of your life, and can reawaken your sense of passion, excitement, and curiosity. Cruises in particular are a highly relaxing option, because most of the typically stressful elements of travel, such as planning out meals and transportation, are already taken care of for you. You can truly put up your feet and simply take in the sights and wonders around you. What better way to kick off your 2015 than to spend some time truly relaxing and recuperating from the stresses of 2014? Start a new year in a new mindset, and pledge to have a healthier year both mentally and physically.”

    5. Travel will make you smarter

Yes, travel will make you smarter, so it’s part of a great 2015 resolution to improve your education.

USA Today reported on the educational benefits of travel, which include the ability to learn about history, perspective, themes, language, and insight that you can’t get from history books. It’s something to think about.

Surely you now have enough reasons to plan a trip. How many more do you need? 2015 is the time to go far. Literally.

  • All-Inclusive Vacations: What You MUST Look For Before Buying

All-inclusive vacations are a dream come true for those of us who prefer to take care of practically all aspects of a planned trip at once.

Who wants to spend those extra hours trying to find the right airline flight, negotiating hotel accommodation, and calculating the cost of food and cab fares.

That is, while STILL trying to peg down exactly where it is you want to go.

With an all-inclusive vacation package, most of the leg work is done for you. All that’s left for you to do is say yes and go on vacation.

    Whoa, wait a minute!

Before you buy that “all-inclusive vacation” deal, you may want to examine it more carefully.

Overlooking seemingly minor details could eventually leave you feeling sour about what was supposed to be a dreamy vacation experience.

    The Time Of Year

Many destinations become much cheaper to visit during certain windows of time.

While this may contribute to the inexpensive nature of your all-inclusive vacation package, it’s good to examine whether or not you really WANT to visit a location during the proposed time of the year.

If you’re not a fan of extremely cold weather, an all-inclusive vacation spent at a location experiencing a harsh winter is probably not the way to go.

If you want to get the most out of any vacation deal, properly research the intended destination in advance.

It doesn’t matter if a deal is “last minute”; a brief Google search can tell you all that you need to know before making your decision.

Will You Have A Ride From The Airport?

You would think that “all-inclusive” means that details like a ride from the airport to your hotel are included.

    Not necessarily.

While many vacation packages include food and drink, some of them neglect to mention exactly HOW you’re supposed to get to your hotel upon arrival.

It could even be that a ride is arranged for you to get to the hotel, but you’re expected to find your own way to the airport when leaving.

Please make sure you clarify the nature of your “to and from” transportation details. It can save you one heck of a headache!

    Fun Activities Included?

One of the best things about a vacation is the ability to get out and directly experience a beautiful location.

A great way to make this happen is through fun activities unique to a particular destination.

You should check to see if the all-inclusive vacation package comes with special activities for you or your family.

This step will definitely help you make the most of your vacation and create lasting memories.

Do you have any other suggestions for getting the best all-inclusive vacation deal possible?

  • Travel Deals Heating Up in September

It may seem a bit early to start thinking of the holidays, but experienced holiday travelers know that travel plans should be booked months in advance. Waiting until later in the year will mean higher fares, less flexible scheduling, and more headaches. Travel companies also know this and travel deals are now heating up in the race to book last-minute summer and fall travelers.

The United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) has declared September to be “Travel Together Now!” month. The organization, a nonprofit that represents tour operators, is offering special deals through its website during the month. Customers can receive deals on group travel to locations in every continent, including Antarctica.

“Our members’ business patterns tell us that September is when travelers like to book their bucket-list journeys, so we brought all the deals together in September to give them easy access,” said Terry Dale, President and CEO the USTOA. “It’s the first time USTOA has ever orchestrated such an extensive promotion, and we’re certain travelers will find their perfect trip among the array of offers.”

Other travel companies are wrapping up the summer of 2014 with new deals on worldwide travel.

Travel distribution company Last Minute Travel this week announced that it now offers over 10,000 different “travel activities, attractions, and transfers” through its website. The company, which competes with other travel distribution companies such as Orbitz and CheapTickets, offers shows, tours, and other events at a discount off retail prices. The site offers booking for activities and transfers in 85 countries across the world, in addition to flight and hotel booking.

“By booking their trip activities and transportation in advance, savvy travelers can save time, anxiety, and money,” said Ofir Cohen, EVP of Global Activities and Groups for Last Minute Travel. “Whether customers are traveling somewhere specifically for an experience or just looking for stuff to do while they’re in a new city, our website’s huge inventory and user friendly format makes it easy to find everything [they are] looking for.”

  • Want to Completely Disconnect on Your Next Vacation? Take a Trip with Holiday Cruise Line

Commissioned News Story (Source: Holiday Cruise Line)

Web professionals move pretty fast. The entire world is available 24-7 at the click of a mouse. Naturally, completely disconnecting on vacation would be a challenge but the best way to be provided with enough stimuli to do just that is on a cruise. With endless amounts of on-board activities and opportunities to visit different travel destinations, a cruise is the perfect solution for the adventure seeking, intellectually charged Web professional.

Disconnecting from the Internet sometimes is necessary for health. According to eMarketer, adults in the United States spend more time on digital devices than watching TV, and digital devices now get more than 5 hours a day from the average American.

Working at a computer is obviously bad for you, causing issues like eye strain, back problems, emotional pressure, anxiety, depression, and other ailments.

According to research, people act differently on Facebook because they know they’re being watched. Locals in Fiji spend 15 hours a day socializing with each other- free of digital distractions. Megan Snedden talked about this in a piece for the International Business Times earlier this year, recounting her experience with a “digital detox”. It helped her “reconnect with reality.”

If you don’t want to hop on a plane to Fiji, you might simply consider going on a cruise, where you can enjoy various locations without having to keep packing and unpacking.

Holiday Cruise Line thinks cruises are an ideal way to unplug for a while.

“Your mental health is imperative, and using a vacation, especially a cruise to relax, wind down, and recharge your internal batteries is a great way to stay healthy,” a Holiday Cruise Line representative says. “If you do a quick search for information about how vacations can impact an individual’s happiness, there’s a lot of information out there.”

“Some articles even talk about how a vacation can help students score better on tests and perform better going into the school year because they’ve been taken out of their comfort zone, experience new things and places, and have grown personally as result of a vacation,” they add. “They reduce stress almost immediately. As soon as you get on a cruise, you feel the water beneath you gently rocking your entire ship, there’s not doubt that you’ll start feeling more relaxed and centered. You and your entire family will have an opportunity to come together, leave the hustle and bustle of daily life behind you, and allow you to make an immediate change in your attitude for the better.”

A lot of cruises offer activities that directly contribute to health and well-being, such as yoga classes, fitness classes, gyms, etc. They also, according to the representative, “almost always have great healthy food options.”

Ultimately, it’s going to be up to the customer to put down their electronics and relax, but that shouldn’t be too hard to do on a cruise. If it is…what’s the matter with you?

  • Melissa Gorga Is Dedicated To Keeping Her Body Fit

Melissa Gorga may be best known for her starring role in The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but she has an incredible body to boot. Despite already having three children, she still keeps her body in shape and isn’t afraid to show it.

Us Weekly reports that Melissa and husband, Joe Gorga, were seen at Miami Beach on Friday with her family. The pictures that emerged of her in a yellow bikini are quite stunning and it’s hard to imagine her belly being any bigger than it is now. It might have actually been that way if she wasn’t dedicated to her workouts. Speaking to Us in 2013, the star said that she works extra hard now to maintain her current body:

“I definitely work out now harder than I’ve ever worked out in my life. It came naturally to me before I had children, and now I have to work for it, which I’m used to. I’ve always been a hard worker.”

Interestingly enough, she also revealed that she goes against the grain when it comes to working her gluteal muscles. She admitted to doing a lot of squats and lunges to bulk up her butt instead of wanting it to be smaller.

She shared a bit of her vacation with the world on Instagram featuring her children, her husband and herself all having fun at the beach. While she may not be wearing the two piece yellow bikini that had the blogs excited, her black one piece is equally appealing:

Here’s another shot of Gorga and her family at the beach with yet another different bikini:

While Gorga may have been at the beach on Friday, she also made sure to honor her Italian roots on Sunday by attending an Easter service:

Besides going to the beach and attending Easter services, Melissa is promoting her new book – Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage. Her fans have nothing but kind words for the book on Twitter, but the Amazon reviews are an entirely different story. Check it out if you want to see a 1 star carpet bombing in action.

  • Kim Kardashian Stuns In New Black Bikini

Kim Kardashian, the famous reality star and fiancé of Kanye West, was in Thailand last week, busy filming new episodes for Keeping Up With The Kardashians, doing photo shoots, playing tourist with her family, and spending lots of time in a black bikini. Kim, 32, stayed with soon-to-be husband Kanye West and their 9 month-old son North at the Iniala Beach House in Phang-Nga. Kim flaunted her post-baby body in a teeny black two-piece that needed constant adjusting. Even still she seemed confident, as well she should – Kim looks stunning! Kim showed off her toned abs and arms while still having all of her famous curves. Kim was also spotted in a string bikini on the beach with sisters Kylie and Khloe, before going off to a (you guessed it) bikini photoshoot in the water.

In addition to the plentiful bikini shots, Kim also shared this super sexy, slow motion video on her Instagram doing a hair flip during one of her poolside photoshoots in Thailand:

Kim’s been working hard to regain her body after the baby in preparation for her wedding in Paris next month. Despite rumors of Kim having second thoughts about marrying Kanye, there are also reports that Kim is going overboard in making it the most lavish wedding ceremony of all time, calling it “the wedding to end all weddings.” Apparently, invitations to the coveted ceremony cost over $900 each, with party favors running up to $1K per guest. And it’s in Paris, and it’s Kim, so should we expect anything less?

  • All-Inclusive Resorts Making A Comeback

    All-Inclusive Resorts Making A Comeback

All-inclusive resorts are making a big comeback from the days of simple accommodations, mediocre food, and long buffet lines. Today’s all-inclusive can be anything from an adult-only spa themed resort to a family-centered playland with waterparks and babysitters. And luxury is not hard to find.

Back in the 1950s, when all-inclusives had their start with Club Med, the focus of the industry was on singles, young couples and honeymooners on a shoestring. But now, that is not so at all.

“Historically, there has been a stigma attached to this industry — that it is limited to middle-market consumers,” says Scott D. Berman, a principal at PwC and leader of the firm’s U.S. hospitality and leisure practice.

Now, Berman and other experts can agree that the face of the all-inclusive vacation has changed for the infinitely better.

The rebounding all-inclusive concept is therefore quickly growing in popularity, according to Forbes. Studies show that the percentage of travelers flocking to all-inclusives has risen from 8% to 14% in just the last three years, and is reportedly the fastest growing segment of the travel industry.

Why the sudden reappearance on the radar? Well, some feel it is due to the economic downturn in our recent history. Now more than ever people just want to know up front what their trip is going to cost and want to avoid surprises. People also like the feeling of not having to carry a wallet or purse everywhere. It takes some of the care out of the way so that you can truly relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Do you really save money going with an all-inclusive? That depends on the circumstances. No one has ever formerly done studies on the difference in cost involved, “But guests paying for inclusive packaging have the perception that they are spending less [at an all-inclusive],” says Berman. “There is a psychological comfort in knowing they aren’t going to get a bill with pages of itemized resort charges.”

Although you may not save all that much, knowing everything up front can go a long way to helping you relax and enjoy your very precious days of leisure.

  • Spring Break Vacations Spent Swinging Hammers

While many undergrads indulge in drunken, half-naked debauchery this spring break, others are finding their only “vice” in the word “service”.

Groups of college students across the country are doing the latter from their ladders this year via Habitat for Humanity, as they spend their vacations volunteering. But Hannah Cane of St. Joseph’s College doesn’t consider it “work”. The Campus Habitat Chapter President who came to Amarillo, Texas this year explains, “It’s getting up and doing the right thing.”

A few hours away, the Habitat volunteers in Wichita Falls feel similarly.

“To come and build not just a house but a home for someone is really meaningful,” says Brooke Lietzke, a University of Jamestown junior. Brooke is one of two groups spending the week in Witchita Falls and helping build a dwelling for a single mom and her kids. She went on to express what it’s like to be part of the joy the soon-to-be homeowner is already feeling, saying:

“We’ve gotten to meet the future owner of the house and she is just so excited. Yesterday she came back and we had put doors on her house and we had enclosed her porch and so she’s really starting to feel like it’s going to be her home.”

As the single Texas mom looks forward to her new home, another single mom is grateful for the service of a Habitat group visiting her in Leechburg, PA to do the same. 20 students from Providence College in Rhode Island also forewent R&R this year to help erect a residence for the mom and her 7-year-old.

And these student volunteers are surprised to learn what they personally are getting out of the experience.

“I’ve never done home improvement work before and never used a staple gun before coming here,” said Caitlin Trainor, a senior and co-team leader. She added, “This has pushed me out of my comfort zone — I’ve found I’m really good at insulating!” Kate Hickner, Campus Habitat Vice President, working with the Amarillo group can attest to this. She stated,”The fact that we’re able to get out and expand our horizons and just do good – we’ve learned since we’ve been here in Amarillo it’s an area of need.”

If you’re thinking “Ah, I wish I’d done that back in college” – it’s never too late! Florida veteran Charles Baker was thankful for the home help repairs Habitat for Humanity offered him as well:

In sum, the drive to give back for spring break (or any break) might be best summed up by Hannah Cane:

“We just feel like we would rather spend our spring break doing good instead of laying on the beach and getting tans.”

  • All-Inclusive Vacations: Are They Worth The Cost?

When you plan a vacation there are a few things to consider. Some people prefer to wing it and just make their plans when they arrive at their destination. Others prefer to plan out their entire trip and prepare a budget. To make planning and budgeting easier, many people look for all-inclusive vacation options. This makes planning easier and in some cases can be more affordable.

While some all-inclusive vacations can be the stuff dreams are made of, many others are not up to the standards of most people. If you are thinking about planning an all-inclusive vacation, be sure to check on these features to make sure you are getting your money’s worth.

    Food
Many people who have had bad experiences with all-inclusive vacations complain about the quality of the food they are served. Sure the resort cruise line advertises an all you can eat buffet and top quality food choices, but in reality, you could be paying a lot of money for poor quality food. When you call to book your vacation, ask about the food that is served so you have a better idea of what to expect and can decide beforehand if it will be worth the cost.

    Activities
One of the reasons many people book all-inclusive vacations is to take advantage of the many activities that are advertised or offered. Some cruise lines and resorts advertise the attractions that are available at all of their resorts or ships. When you arrive at your resort or cruise ship, you could find that the show or activity you were most excited about is not available at your specific resort or ship. To avoid this disappointment, ask about which activities, shows and experiences are available for the cruise or resort you are booking.

    Alcohol
Alcohol is one of the biggest letdowns experienced on an all-inclusive vacation. If you planned to sit under an umbrella or by the pool sipping on your favorite cocktail or drinking your favorite beer, you could be upset to arrive at your destinations and find out your favorite drink isn’t included in your all-inclusive package. When it comes to alcohol, it is semi-all-inclusive and many resorts and cruises only offer certain brands of beer and liquor and certain types of mixed drinks. Always ask about what type of alcohol is included with your all-inclusive package.

Finding an all-inclusive vacation package that fits your needs and expectations can make it worth the cost, Just make sure your vacation will be all you want it to be before you book it and pay a deposit.

  • Parents Face Prison For Taking Kids Out Of School

Stewart and Natasha Sutherland simply wanted to enjoy a long awaited family vacation, and took their children out of school for the event. They now risk jail time because they refused to pay a fine under Britain’s new law.

The couple was fined an initial £360 after they went away for seven days at the end of September, but they did not pay the fine. The fine then doubled to £720 because they did not pay it within 21 days.

Now they are to appear before Telford Magistrates’ Court to be reprimanded and they face possible jail time.

Part of their logic makes sense; the vacation they took to the Greek Island of Rhodes for seven days was booked prior to the new guidelines that were put in force on September 1 last year. In addition, they are their parents and should be trusted to know what is best for them.

However, they were warned before they went away, they each risked a £60 fine for taking their six-year-old son, Keane, and their daughters Sian, 13, and Rhiannan, 15, out of school for the break.

Stewart commented, “I work in a sensitive job where staffing levels have to be maintained – there’s been a recruitment and overtime ban and it’s been impossible to arrange summer leave that fits in with the rest of the family.”

Further, “I know how important education is – but there’s a bigger picture. Family time is important, too, and the children’s behavior and schooling has improved massively since our holiday together.”

And now, due to Section 444 of the Education Act, 1996, that states that parents are legally required to send their children to school on a regular basis, and failure to do so can land them a fine or prison sentence, has literally landed them in some hot water.

The Sutherland’s stated that they informed the school of the planned vacation, and were apparently unaware of the new laws in the Education Act.

Mr. Sutherland stated: “I informed the school after the summer holidays that we were taking the children out for six days. At that point, I wasn’t even aware of the new legislation.”

“We had a letter back warning that as the time off was not authorized we could be fined, but the holiday was already booked and paid for – what could I do?”

“We are their parents; it should be up to us. I have no concerns over any of my children or their level of education. They are all in the top sets, and we believe quality family time is just as important as schooling.”

The team leader for Telford & Wrekin Council, Kay Burford, argued that the law was put into place because time off is disruptive to a child’s education.

She said: “Our policy supports new legislation which makes it clear that head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.”

Further, “Parents should never simply discount a possible penalty notice from the cost of a cheaper holiday, because this is a criminal offense and when doing so they are always risking prosecution.”

So, the jury is out on this case, however, and if these parents go to jail it will undoubtedly create a major storm.

  • Beverly D’Angelo To Work With Chevy Chase On Comedy Project

Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase became a part of pop culture forever when they started the “Vacation” series; as Ellen and “Sparky”, they kept us laughing for years with their doomed journeys and dysfunctional family members. Now, the actors are getting ready to reunite for a project on ABC that will see them playing a married couple once again.

Deadline is reporting that the show–which doesn’t have a writer attached to it yet–tells the story of a couple enjoying their 60’s together when they are suddenly forced to raise their grandchildren.

The duo are reportedly also attached to a reboot of the original “Vacation”, which is set to star Ed Helms as Rusty and Christina Applegate as his wife, although the project has been delayed due to a reported friction between the film’s developers about whether it should receive a PG-13 or R rating.

The ABC project will mark Chase’s return to television after his abrupt departure from “Community”, which involved quite a bit of drama after an on-set outburst.

“When I would try [to get him to talk], he would just try to fight me,” Joel McHale told Howard Stern, saying the actor just didn’t want to be there. “He physically wanted to fight me.”

The unnamed project is tentatively set for the 2015-2016 season.

  • Chevy Chase Reunited with ‘Vacation’ Co-star

The Griswold’s are back! Well, the actors who played the Griswold’s are back together.

Chevy Chase and Vacation co-star Beverly D’Angelo are reuniting in a project ABC is developing for the 2015-2016 TV season.

The deal which is being developed by executive producer Aaron Kaplan has been completed but a writer, studio and script are still being hashed out. The pilot is based on an idea by Kaplan about a pair of 60-something grandparents forced to raise their grandchildren.

The former SNL comedian’s most recent stunt on prime time was in the NBC series Community, which he left in the fourth season. Last year, he reprised his role as Pierce Hawthorne in the show’s season opener in a surprise cameo.

D’Angelo is known for her role as tough agent Barbara Miller in the HBO acclaimed series Entourage and for her incredible portrayal as Patsy Cline in Coal Miner’s Daughter in which she did her own singing.

Chase and D’Angelo played Clark and Ellen Griswold in the highly successful Vacation Franchise which included National Lampoon’s Vacation, followed by the sequels, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation.

Chase and D’Angelo have been in talks to reprise their roles as the Griswold’s in an updated version of Vacation starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate.

The old pals starred in a 2010 Superbowl Commercial called ‘Hotel Hell Vacation’, a short re-make of Vacation.

  • Obama Hawaii: Back to Reality Today

President Obama comes back to cold and blustery D.C. after two weeks in his hometown Hawaii.

As the country watched his hair go from black to almost white in the past five years, the Associated Press tell us that the Obama leaves from his longest vacation since his presidency today. In the last two weeks, the Obama family has spent a little down time in a quiet suburb of Kailua on Hawaii’s eastern coast.

As every hard-working guy should, the president has gotten in a few rounds of golf while chumming it up with a foreign official at the same time– the area has a golf course on the US Marine Corps base, and Barack Obama and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key spent a little time on the green.

Honolulu Star Advertiser tells us that the bond shared by Obama and Key represents a growing trade relationship with New Zealand, and affirms their “continued work together to… enhance regional security and support the democratic values that the United States and New Zealand share.”

To solidify the “a man’s work is never done” saying, Obama has also signed a defense bill and budget deal for the country on his time off with the ocean breeze easing the strain of making those important signatures. He’s also begun pushing for unemployment benefit reinstatement for his not-so-lucky citizens, all while avoiding a polar bear protester.

Not entirely mixing work with play, besides relaxing in his rented beachfront home, Obama has been watching Breaking Bad, visited the zoo with the family and caught some basketball games at the Diamond Head Classic tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
