  • Sony Unboxes PlayStation 4, Provides An Internal Look

As PlayStation 4s start showing up in store warehouses, it helps bring the idea the next generation consoles are upon into a tangible reality. In about about a week, the world as we know it will change forever when the PS4 becomes available for consumption; at least, that’s the crux of the pitches we’ve been getting. As Sony and Microsoft fight for control of the living room, we, the consumers, are perceived as winners, as long as we don’t mind going through an expensive upgrade/changeover.

Because anticipation of these new gadgets reaches a fever pitch, unboxing videos have become a thing. So much so, in fact, they are used as marketing pitches. Judging by the numbers, it’s pretty clear people enjoy watching videos of other people opening their new stuff. Which leads us to Wired.com’s exclusive PS4 unboxing video. If people really want to watch these things, taking the next step and offering an exclusive video, complete with Wired’s logo and watermark, is a shrewd way to grab a few more pageviews.

It also helps when the unboxing video goes above and beyond the norm by having a Sony engineer crack the PlayStation 4 case open, giving us a look at the console’s internal workings. Check out Wired’s video and see what you think:

Incredibly exciting, no? Sarcasm aside, if nothing else, it is impressive seeing just how much tech Sony can cram into a plastic case; and hey, there’s no Spider-Man font distracting us from the clinical autopsy. That has to be a plus, right? In case you’ve been living under a rock and missed the news, the PS4 will be available on November 15.

  • Here’s Everything That Comes With That Wind Waker Wii U Bundle

If you’ve been biding your time to pick up a Wii U, Nintendo just made its latest console a little more appealing on Friday with the launch of a new bundle that includes The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Not content to just include the game, the bundle also includes a number of other extras.

To perhaps convince you that these extras are worth it, Nintendo has put together an unboxing video that shows you everything that comes with its latest Wii U bundle. Unlike the Nintendo Land Wii U bundle, this bundle does not come with a physical copy of its pack-in game. Instead, it comes with a download voucher for both the game and a digital version of Hyrule Historia.

So, what makes this bundle worth getting over the Nintendo Land bundle? A digital copy of The Wind Waker HD might not be that appealing to everybody. Well, this bundle comes with a special Wii U gamepad that’s decorated in golden Hylian script from The Wind Waker HD. Hardcore collectors and Zelda fans will obviously want it, but your more casual Nintendo fan might want to instead opt for the Nintendo Land bundle. Both retail for $299.

If you already own a Wii U, you have a few options in regards to obtaining The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. The digital download is available now on the eShop with a physical retail edition hitting stores on October 4.

  • This Is What You’ll Get With The Xbox One In November

Which next generation console are you going to buy come November? If you want the Xbox One, you may be interested in what comes with the Day One edition that Microsoft announced back at E3. Well, wonder no more as Microsoft has unveiled what you’ll be unboxing when you pick up an Xbox One later this year.

In a new video from Major Nelson, he unboxes the Day One edition of the Xbox One to show you everything that comes with it. In a surprise move, Nelson reveals that the Day One and standard edition will ship with a headset. This latest move adds to the growing number of times Microsoft has backtracked regarding the Xbox One.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft has also revealed that the Xbox One will ship with a 4K capable HDMI cable. Both next gen consoles won’t be able to render games in 4K resolutions, but they will be able to play back movies in 4K. This HDMI cable will presumably give Microsoft a head start in that race as the HDMI cable that ships with the PS4 might not be 4K capable.

At the end of the video, Nelson teases that we might see more about the console itself at GamesCom. The tease is accompanied by the reveal that the Xbox One logo is the power button on the Xbox One. It’s a touch sensor, much like the power and eject disc buttons on the original PlayStation 3. GamesCom is coming up at the end of the month. We’ll presumably find out more then.

As an added bonus, here’s some video closeups of the Xbox One controller and the chat headset:

  • Samsung Galaxy S3 Unboxing: Leaked SIII Unfurling

Samsung Galaxy S3 Unboxing: Leaked SIII Unfurling

The much anticipated Android phone, Samsung Galaxy SIII, sees its first unboxing in this video from Italy. Right now the phone is scheduled for release in the UK at the end of May. For those that pre-ordered the divice anyway.

Here in the States we have no idea when they are going to launch. Rumors are circulating that it will be as early as the end of May. Some say June, while others say they will try to compete with the iPhone’s release and wait until the end of August.

At any rate, here it is. Unless you speak italian, I recommend turning the sound off and just watching all that will be included and a side by side comparison with some of the current phones on the market.

If you can’t tell from the video, the Samsung Galaxy Note, the HTC One X, the HTC One S, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are being compared to the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Keep in mind that the U.S. packaging may be different. In fact the whole boxing scheme could be different by the time the phone hits stores globally. According to TechCrunch, Samsung had early units stored in test boxes that people thought were early versions of the Galaxy 3S. IT turns out that Samsung had these made up as a decoy in case there was a leak. For now, we think this video is the real thing.

One impressive feature is the super-thin design. When he compares the phones one stacked on top of the other, you can really see the difference. For Android fans, this is the phone to have. If they would only tell us when its going to be ready.
