  • Surprise: Capcom Announces A New/Old Marvel Vs. Capcom Game

Capcom is looked down upon in the gaming community for a variety of reasons these days. One of the biggest reasons has been the continual milking of their fighting game franchises. I think we can all agree that it just got ridiculous when they launched Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 not even a year after the original hit. Well, get ready for two more new/old Marvel vs. Capcom games coming your way.

Capcom announced yesterday that Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins would be hitting the PSN and XBLA in September. The two-pack features the first fighters that set the stage for the seminal fighting classic, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. When the game launches laster this year, you can expect to see the re-release of Marvel Super Heroes and the original Marvel Vs. Capcom.

The new release is similar to what we saw with the digital release of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 a few years back. It will feature the smoothed-out HD graphics that we’ve come to expect from these rereleases as well as new features like online play and challenges to complete for achievements.

I had great memories of playing the original Marvel Vs. Capcom, so I can vouch for how wonderful this collection is. As for Marvel Super Heroes, it’s a decent fighter as well. If you can only get one digital fighter this fall though, I would suggest going with the sequel if you haven’t already bought it off the PSN or XBLA. It has way more characters and is just an overall more fun experience. If you want to know where the franchise came from though, this is the way to go.

Here’s the first trailer for the collection. It will be available on PSN and XBLA for $14.99. I’ll see you guys online in Marvel Vs. Capcom. Here’s hoping I still have my skills from 10 years ago.

  • Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Coming to iPhones

Capcom announced today that it would be releasing a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 App for mobile devices running Apple’s iOS. The game will feature all 56 characters from the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and will maintain all of its arcade stylings and fight mechanics. To be specific, the iOS version of the game will taking a play from the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on consoles by including the “Variable System” that allows players to swap in team members at any time, and also the “Team Hyper Combos.”

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be available in Apple’s App store on April 25th. Though Capcom only specifically stated the game would be available on iPhone and iPod touches, I imagine the game will also run on an iPad.

There is no word yet on how the controls of the game will be implemented on a touch screen or whether the game will feature any multiplayer modes. If there is multiplayer support, it might be difficult to play a fighting game, which needs precise timing, over a 3G or 4G connection. It will be either very interesting or very disappointing to see how Capcom has dealt with both of these issues. Take a look at a few of the screenshots released for the game, and let me know in the comments if a fighting game is the type of game you want to play while waiting for the bus.

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Battles Onto Vita Today

Alongside all the great content already hitting the PlayStation Vita today, Capcom is releasing Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the titular handheld.

For those who don’t know about the fantastic Marvel vs. Capcom series, imagine taking all the greatest characters and fighters from both the Marvel and Capcom universes and mashing them together in one giant fighter.

While Capcom might have some raised some ire among gamers over their decision to release Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 so soon after the release of the original, the decision seems to be a good one.

The expanded roster is worth the $40 asking price alone as it adds 12 new characters to the roster bringing the total character above 50. Some of the new characters include fan favorites Phoenix Wright and Rocket Raccoon.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 also adds some much needed balancing tweaks to the main game that make the game far more competitive but easier for new players to ease themselves into the mayhem. Players can also watch the other fighters duke it out live over the Internet with the game’s Spectator mode.

The game’s transition to Vita suffers no harm as its a nearly flawless port of the console versions. The only difference is that players can take the game on the go with them. It’s going to be my preferred version as I love playing fighters on handhelds over consoles.

The reviews so far confirm my suspicions that the game has turned out to be a great treat for portable fighting fans. You won’t want to miss this one, folks. Let Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 take you for a ride.
