  • Massive Crater Discovered in Siberia

A huge crater has mysteriously formed in a region of Siberia commonly known as the “end of the world.”

After a video of the 260-foot-wide crater surfaced online, Russian scientists mobilized, and were set to appear in the area today to attempt to assess its origins.

So far, a government spokesperson in the Yamal peninsula has commented that the crater is not the result of a meteor strike, as no meteor large enough to have caused such a crater would have gone unnoticed by the oil workers or indigenous Nenets reindeer herders who inhabit the peninsula. Researchers have likewise assured conspiracy theorists that the hole is not a landing site of an alien spacecraft, or a result of weapons testing.

One geologic theory is that warming temperatures caused permafrost to melt and release natural gas, akin to a cork shooting out of a bottle of champagne. The crater is situated roughly 20 miles from Russia’s Bovanenkovo gas field, so the theory is plausible.

Here is a clip of the mystery hole:

Some have called the clip of the crater, which was discovered by Mi-8 transport helicopter pilots, a hoax.

Another possibility surrounds mounds that regularly form beneath the tundra during the summer, as the pressure of meltwater from the thaw builds up beneath the surface. When the internal pressure becomes too great, the mounds can explode with such a force to where earth and debris are ejected a considerable distance.

A pingo, also called a hydrolaccolith, is a mound of earth-covered ice found in the Arctic and subarctic that can reach up to 230 feet in height and up to 2,000 feet in diameter.

Scientists will know more after arriving at the Siberian site.

  • Buzz Aldrin UFO Sighting Exposed

Some UFO rumors never die. This one has been around since 1969.

When Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins took off for the moon in ’69, they knew they were making history. Armstrong’s “one small step” did indeed become a giant leap as the United States ratcheted up its space race fever until we had satellites in orbit and a telecommunications empire that eventually brought us GPS, cellular telephones, and Game of Thrones.

But it was a relatively innocuous little occurrence on the flight to the moon that UFO buffs are still up in arms over. Buzz Aldrin saw a UFO. Sort of. As Aldrin explains in a Reddit AMA:

“On Apollo 11 in route to the Moon, I observed a light out the window that appeared to be moving alongside us,” Aldrin said. “There were many explanations of what that could be, other than other spacecraft from another country or another world – it was either the rocket we had separated from, or the 4 panels that moved away when we extracted the lander from the rocket and we were nose to nose with the two spacecraft. So in the close vicinity, moving away, were 4 panels. And I feel absolutely convinced that we were looking at the sun reflected off of one of these panels. Which one? I don’t know. So technically, the definition could be ‘unidentified.’”

The 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing is coming up, which has revived some interest in the “UFO” moment.

But another classic Aldrin moment has also resurfaced, this one from 2002. Buzz Aldrin was asked to come to a Beverly Hills hotel to film a segment for a Japanese children’s show. Once there, he was ambushed by a man who was trying to film a documentary claiming the Apollo 11 moon landings were faked. This man, Bart Sibrel, a taxi driver from Nashville, called Aldrin “a coward, and a liar, and a thief”. Buzz Aldrin, Air Force fighter pilot, jacked his jaw.

Aldrin was not charged in the incident, since police believed Aldrin had been provoked.

  • Chile UFO Investigation Results: It’s a UFO

Chile UFO Investigation Results: It’s a UFO

Some miners in Collahuasi, Chile watched with great interest as the disk-shaped object hung around in the cloudless sky over their worksite. For over an hour the shape hung, drifted. It made no sound. Eventually, it drifted away.

Might it have been a drone? The workers in the mine area are familiar with drones.

“People in that zone know about drones,” said Jose Lay, international affairs director for the CEFAA (Committee for the Studies of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena). “Fishing companies use drones and they make a lot of noise. This was definitely not a drone.”

One of the workers took pictures of the object with a high-quality camera. The photos were sent to investigators. The photos indicate an object that looks to not only reflect sunlight, but possibly emit heat energy of its own.

Weather researchers determined that the sky was cloudless in that area at that time, in June of this year. Experimental aircraft and other usual explanations were subsequently ruled out. The investigation ground on, but ran into some difficulty.

“The witnesses were not willing to cooperate,” Jose Lay told Huffington Post. “We tried to contact them, and we got no reply. So we treated the material just as we have treated several others of the same or similar nature: we file them for future reference or comparison purposes. That’s all we can do in this case.”

Eventually, when all other explanations were exhausted, analysts released their finding:

“It is an object or phenomenon of great interest, and it can be qualified as a UFO.”

Keep in mind that a UFO, by definition, is an “Unidentified Flying Object.” Therefore, calling something a “U.F.O.” is simply another way of saying, “We don’t know what this is yet.”

“This is clearly not a normal thing seen in the sky (bird, plane, cloud, etc.),” retired Navy physicist Dr. Bruce Maccabeesaid. “That makes it either the real thing – UFO – or a hoax, and it doesn’t appear to be a hoax, although the inability to question witnesses does reduce the credibility. Certainly this case is worthy of further study.”

  • Chile UFO Investigation Leads To Surprising Outcome

The highly anticipated results of an investigation into an unidentified flying object was released by Chilean officials on July 3rd.

The government agency responsible for the investigation was the Committee for the Studies of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena or CEFAA.

The CEFAA is directly tasked with researching any bizarre incidents that occur in Chilean airspace.

The event in question occurred in April 2013 at the Collahuasi copper mine and was documented through a series of photographs.

The copper mine is located in the Andean plateau and is 14,000 ft above sea level.

There were four witnesses working at the time of the incident. According to the eyewitnesses, a disc-shaped object hovered near their location for roughly an hour about 2,000 ft in the air.

They claimed the UFO was absolutely silent the entire time it was at the location. Eventually it drifted away.

One of the witnesses used a Kenox Samsung S860 camera to take photographs of the flying object.

Initially all persons who saw the UFO had decided to say nothing for fear of ridicule. However, the man who photographed the object shared his images with an employer.

It was the employer who sent the images to the CEFAA in February for further analysis.

All of this was done on the condition of anonymity for all parties involved.

Because there were no clouds to be seen on the day of the UFO sighting, as confirmed by Chile’s meteorological office, it was determined the object absolutely could not be a cloud. Other meteorological possibilities were eventually ruled out by the CEFAA staff.

Eventually, practically every logical explanation as to what the object could be was also ruled out, including drones, planes, weather balloons, or experimental aircraft.

Once conventional solutions were deemed inappropriate, a much deeper analysis was prepared by the CEFAA.

After examining the photographs carefully and going back over witness descriptions, the CEFAA have ruled that the phenomenon involved “an object or phenomenon of great interest, and it can be qualified as a UFO”.

It’s important to remember that the phrase “unidentified flying object” does not necessarily mean “alien aircraft”. It simply is a description for a flying object that cannot be explained or correctly identified after a great deal of analysis.

The CEFAA admitted that the Collahuasi case was especially hard because witness cooperation was practically nonexistent.

  • UFO Sightings: Where Were They Visiting This Year?

UFO sightings continue to amaze and scare the world. They also have a way of piquing our curiosity. It seems like UFOs seem to prefer certain places to others and some even visit the same areas over and over again.

This year alone, more than ten UFO incidents made the international news. So where were all of these UFOs spotted?

In March, a UFO was spotted above the ocean near the Gold Coast in Australia. Two more were spotted in London just a few weeks later. The saucers were spotted back in Australia in May and two were caught on video in New Zealand the same month.

After that, the little green men took their flying saucers to the moon where several people using the Google Moon Viewer saw a a two-sided, triangular space ship on the surface of the moon.

The aliens also took an interest in Mars this year. There were several photos of a cigar-shaped spaceship captured by the Curiosity Rover robot.

If the aliens are looking for a new place to call home, Mars might be the best option for them. Scientists recently announced that they plan to start growing plants on the red planet and even found evidence that water existed on the planet within the last 200,000 years.

Scientists are still studying the planet and believe that it could someday be home to life again. NASA has already created their own flying saucer that is capable of traveling to Mars and back.

The saucer is currently being used to bring information back from Mars to Earth but something similar could one day be used to transport humans the same way.

Have you ever seen a UFO and do you think humans will one day live on Mars?

  • UFO Sightings: Nothing To Fear, “Deer”

UFO Sightings: Nothing To Fear, “Deer”

Are Martians meandering through Mississippi marsh and grasslands?

Since a family in Jackson County, Mississippi witnessed something out of the ordinary, the Internet’s interest has been piqued. Edith and Rainer Shattles claimed they had set up cameras to capture wildlife on Feb 16, but instead reported filming a strange sequence of glowing objects. In the time lapse, Bambi & Co. go from grazing in the dark to gazing into what look like floating headlights. At another, it looks like they’re basking in a large spotlight hovering above

“We didn’t know what it was. I was looking for a nice buck to be showing up on the trail camera actually,” Edith explained.

Rainer Shattles added, “Whether it’s a government drone or what, I wish if nothing else, if one of them would step up and say ‘Ya, that’s ours.’”

Mr. Shattles may be onto something there. The isolated region would make a perfect location for military training exercises to take place.

If you’re an ardent X-Filer, yes – the truth is out there. It may even be something fantastically unexpected and alien. However, it’s always nice to try the simple explanations on for size first – just in case they fit.

Of the 500 monthly UFO sightings reported in America, the mysterious phenomena end up mostly bearing mundane everyday explanations. According to the Huffington Post, a Kansas City sighting from a few years back was actually a military parachuting team performing a nighttime jump.

There was even something called Project Blue Book study performed by the U.S. Air Force between 1948 and 1969. After looking at 12,000 UFO sightings, it was learned that 11,917 of them had equally boring explanations like satellites, weather balloons, natural phenomena, or hoaxes. After 1969, Blue Book wasn’t carried any further (although I like to think that was just the juncture at which it became covert, with Agent Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones saving Earth daily in thankless secrecy).

So, of the kajillion explanations it could be – what do you think this family captured? Drones? A military training exercise? Deer eyeball reflections? A grandkid with excellent photoshop skills? Keep in mind that whatever the lights were, they didn’t seem to rattle the Shattle’s deer enough to stop their grass gobbling. What are my two cents? Well, using the wealth of information I obtained while earning a Biological Sciences degree, I’ve deduced the following:

It’s definitely Santa trolling Southern tail for his team during their off season.

  • Deer UFO: Close Encounter Captured On Tape?

Rainer and Edith Shattles don’t know what to make of the bizarre pictures taken by their night vision cameras.

It was just a cold February night in the Cumbest Bluff area of Jackson County, Miss. when the couple set up trail cameras with the hope of capturing an image of a night healthy buck on screen.

There were plenty of deer to be seen in the images.

However at a certain point, the trail cameras capture what appears to be a series of “lights” floating in the air or shining down on the deer.

“We have unusual things [a]round here that happen, but it’s usually associated with our grandchildren,” said Edith Shattles.

When it came to trying to identify what was happening at certain time stamps, she said that she and her husband “didn’t know what it was.”

Things appear normal until 7:29 pm. The trail camera detects a dim light shining down. At 7:35 pm, the light is is much brighter. When the camera takes a snapshot at 7:53 pm, there is a weird shape captured on screen.

One of the later images is specially compelling, showing what almost appears to be a pair of floating headlights focused on a deer which is staring at whatever the lights are.

In fact, it’s clear from a couple of snapshots that the animals are keenly aware of the phenomenon happening above and around them.

They don’t seem to be too concerned. Because the deer appear throughout the images, it’s clear that whatever it was failed to spook the four-legged animals. As skittish as deer are, this only adds to the mystery.

The Shattles family hoped that perhaps their friends and neighbors had an idea as to the nature of what they accidentally captured, but everyone they know is just as stumped.

Rainer Shattles considers it “a puzzle that may never be solved”, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He explained, “[It’s] kind of fun. Adds a little flavor to life I guess you could say.”

Rainer and Edith Shattles are simply excited to have happened upon something so unique entirely by chance.

“We are just fascinated over it because of the fact that it was right here and it’s real.”

What do YOU make of the strange images captured by the Shattles? Is it a UFO, ghosts, or a malfunction of some kind? Share your theories below!

  • UFOs Reportedly Seen On New Years Eve

UFOs Reportedly Seen On New Years Eve

Was someone, or something, else enjoying the fireworks on New Years Eve? That is the question that many California residents are asking themselves, after several mysterious lights were spotted in the sky.

Reports flooded in all over the state of California, after witnesses said they saw strange lights, that had nothing to do with the fireworks, floating in the sky. Many believe the lights were from a UFO.

“I seen like six bright orange colored lights. They were almost like in a diamond or triangle shape. It was weird. And so they started just separating,” said Kaye Pinlac of Stockton.

Terry and Hans Mauth of Auburn say that they watched the lights, which they described as egg-shaped. “There was no sound, that’s the funny thing,” Terry said. “Just this big illuminated form.” One possible explanation was that people had released luminaria light bags. However, Terry dismissed that explanation saying, “It was too huge to be a birthday balloon or something like that. And it moved too quickly.”

Steven Brown of Sacramento says that he saw something similar hovering above Belle Cooledge Park. “Whatever it was moved up and to the left,” he explained. “It hovered there for probably about 60 seconds, then it took off at a high rate of speed.”

Residents are still waiting for an official explanation on what they saw on New Years. Was it, in fact, a UFO, or is there a much more logical and simple explanation?

Do you think the lights were UFOs? Leave your comments below.

  • UFO Sighting In Wee Hours New Years Eve – California

You have to wonder about the condition of the people who think they saw a UFO in the wee hours of New Years Eve. But before doubt sets in, to their credit, there were people in several cities who saw the same lights. Could this be the real thing?

ABC News reported on January 3rd that air authorities have confirmed that there wasn’t any “unusual flight activity” so that might mean that the people who were seeing lights, could have really been seeing something in the form of an alien space craft.

“I seen like six bright orange colored lights. They were almost like in a diamond or triangle shape. It was weird. And so they started just separating,” said Kaye Pinlac who took video on his iPhone. Others reported seeing similar lights in the sky but it was the way that the lights moved, witnesses said, that suggested these weren’t fizzled fireworks or falling stars.

The cities that have claimed seeing these “strange lights” were Stockton, Sacramento and Auburn. Reports from all the people who called in or were interviewed claim to have seen something similar: Hovering lights in a pattern that moved together like some sort of object in the sky.

“It was bright enough to shine directly through the trees without any problem seeing it. Whatever it was moved up and to the left… It hovered there for probably about 60 seconds, then it took off at a high rate of speed,” Mr. Pinlac added.

What is the most eerie (and almost believable) of all is that these possible UFO sightings came just days after a mysterious crop circle was discovered in the state.

On the other hand, the Quadrantid Meteor Shower had already started on that very night and expected to peak on Thursday night. Could it be the New Year’s celebrations made these meteors just look like UFO’s – surely not everyone was inebriated though.

When you have more than one person seeing the same thing, and something as detailed and intricate as the crop circle that showed up in a farmer’s field – it kind of makes you wonder, and hope, and then wonder some more. Could it really be?

  • UFO Sightings in California on New Year’s Eve

According to a number of witnesses, mankind wasn’t the only one on New Year’s Eve enjoying firework shows across the country.

Apparently, civilians in California spotted unusual objects in the sky amidst the entertaining pyrotechnic displays.

Witnesses in Sacramento and Auburn reported UFO sightings around the same time, making the claims a little more plausible to say the least.

Kaye Pinlac, a resident of Stockton, actually recorded the object in action.

“I seen like six bright orange colored lights,” she said. “They were almost like in a diamond or triangle shape. It was weird. And so they started just separating.”

Steve Brown from Sacramento said he saw the alleged UFO amongst the trees in his yard.

“It was bright enough to shine directly through the trees without any problem seeing it,” he told KPLC TV.

Of course this isn’t the first time people have reported their sightings and even then, every day people aren’t the only ones who are intrigued by the mysterious objects that look to be aircrafts from another planet.

In September, the Huffington Post reported a story on a live broadcast done by meteorologist Sean McMullen of KLKN in Lincoln, Neb.

McMullen noticed a twinkling triangle-shaped entity on live video captured by the stations towercam.

His response to it all seemed to be perplexed explanations.

“At times, it seemed to have tethers hanging from it, but I really think that’s just an artifact — I think it’s light being refracted through the dome that covers our lens. I think that’s really just a star, but I haven’t really seen that before,” he said.

One thing is for certain: UFO sightings have been a topic of debate for years. Some believe while others don’t.

Even classified documents have been released revealing CIA’s involvement with UFO activity.

Opposed to popular belief of Tuesday’s sighting, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor confirmed, “there was no unusual flight activity reported Tuesday night.”

Well with that said, hopefully there’s a reasonable explanation for the strange sightings on New Year’s Eve.

  • Britain’s UFO Desk Shuttered: Little Girl to Blame?

Over 4,000 pages of documents recently released by the UK’s Ministry of Defense explain why the MoD opted to close its UFO hotline in December 2009.

The Ministry claimed that the UFO desk offered “no [military] benefit” and that, in more than 50 years of operation, nothing that had come across the desk to indicate the existence of extraterrestrial life or a “military threat to the UK” from beyond our world.

The demise of the dedicated UFO desk was hastened by an uptick in UFO reports that strained the program’s existing resources. The period between 2000 and 2007 saw an average of 150 reports per year; by November of 2009, just prior to the shut-down, the desk had already received over 500 reports.

The reasons for the surge in reports remains unclear, though the BBC suggests that it might have been caused by the popularity of “releasing Chinese lanterns during celebrations.” Some might find that explanation a bit squishy.

The new documents contain more than the MoD’s reasons for shuttering the UFO desk. Among the 4,400 pages of material are reports from citizens who claimed to have had close encounters, including a Cardiff man who reported having his dog, tent, and car stolen by aliens while camping in 2007 (apparently these were crunchy, granola, dog-loving, Subaru-driving aliens).

Also among the papers was a letter from a young girl who was apparently unsatisfied with the government’s official narrative. “Please tell me,” she wrote,

if living things […] live out side our Planet. I would like to now because me and my father have seen little air craft in the sky. And my father have seen 2 little light Dancing around each other. Pleas send me a letter telling me the anser. […] I have the right to now. Thank you.

Was she on to something? Did she finally ask the right questions and make powerful people sweat? Could it really be a coincidence that she started pushing buttons and then the MoD killed the UFO desk? Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

On any account, I guess now we know what actually happened to Fox Mulder’s sister.

  • UFO: Britain Opens Up X-Files About Stonehenge

New documents released recently by Britain’s Ministry of Defense show that UFO sightings near Stonehenge and the Houses of Parliament went un-investigated because they didn’t have the resources to investigate all the reports they were getting.

Part of the problem is that with the invention of camera phones came the potential for witnesses to document sightings much more easily and frequently.

“That really did put a strain on the resources that the MoD had committed to this subject, and really led up to their decision to finally pull the plug on Britain’s X-Files, simply because they just didn’t have the resources to investigate these sightings, or to look at them in any detail,” UFO historian David Clarke said. “So they just tended to be filed away.”

The MoD was forced to shut down the UFO department because they didn’t have the manpower to keep up with all the reports flooding in; unfortunately, the Stonehenge UFO was in the group that didn’t get followed up on, because, as the Ministry says, they limited investigations to events that posed a security threat to Britain.

“The level of resources diverted to this task is increasing in response to a recent upsurge in reported sightings, diverting staff from more valuable defense-related activities,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The purpose for Stonehenge has been the topic of much debate over the centuries; some believe it’s an ancient burial ground, some think it was created as a type of solar calendar, and some believe it was built by aliens. It will be interesting to see if the release of these X-files will bring out more sighting stories over the ancient wonder.

  • Woman Photographs UFO in the Netherlands

Somebody call Fox Mulder because we’ve got ourselves an honest-to-goodness x-file on our hands, thanks to a female amateur photographer. With that in mind, get out your “I Want To Believe” posters, because according to those who’ve reviewed the image, it’s not a fake. The images of the UFO were taken by Corinne Federer, who lives in Amsterdam. As you can probably tell, the unidentified flying object was not the focus of her photographs. Instead, Federer was taking pictures of the Muiderslot Castle, and upon reviewing her pictures, she noticed the object, which appears in the right side of the lead image.

While there are other images of the flying object in additional pictures, none showed it more clearly than the one leading this article. Once she noticed the object, Federer changed the image’s gray scale, providing us a better idea of what it is she photographed:

    (image)

Of the her find, the photographer had this to say, “I’ve been shooting for quite some time and I’ve seen other stuff in the news, but I’ve never seen anything [like this] with my own eye. It was a tubular-shaped object that had an S-shaped fin on it. If it had been any type of missile, it would’ve had multiple fins, but facing the same direction.” Over at the Huffington Post, they contacted an ex-FBI agent, Ben Hansen, who had this to say about the image: “Having reviewed the raw files, there’s no overt indication that the photos have been manipulated with post editing software.”

With that in mind, what do you think? My first impression was something similar to the javelin Lamar used in Revenge of the Nerds, save for that whole curved fin thing.

  • UFO Over Historic Barn Causes Stir In California

UFO Over Historic Barn Causes Stir In California

A picture showing a UFO near a historic barn in Santee, California is drawing a bit of attention this week. Ellen Henry was taking pictures of the Edgemoor barn when she noticed the object. Before she could get any clearer pictures, however, she says her camera stopped working.

While the images leave plenty of room for discussion and speculation, Henry herself has no doubts. She told local Channel 10 News that she was absolutely certain that the object was from another world.

She did get one decent picture of the barn with the object in the background before her camera stopped working, though it is a little hard to see. Take a look at the image for yourself below:

    (image)

The object is a little hard to see in the image, but if you look over to the left you should see a cigar-shaped object in the sky. Here is the same image zoomed in a bit, with a circle drawn around the object in question.

    (image)

This is not the only time that the Edgemoor barn has drawn attention for things other than its historical significance. The barn is reportedly haunted and is a popular destination for paranormal investigators.

Local airfields, including the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar, have no record of any aircraft in the area. Which means that, strictly speaking, the object is a UFO, in that it is unidentified. The question of whether it is really an alien spacecraft will likely remain a mystery, though.

Personally, though, I think it looks a little bit like a Battlestar…

  • Tiny ‘Alien’ Skeleton Debunked by DNA Evidence

A tiny humanoid skeleton found in Chile’s Atacama Desert has been hailed by UFO conspiracists for years as proof of extraterrestrial life. Now, actual science has proven that the skeleton, as with all currently known life, originated on Earth.

According to a LiveScience report, researchers at the Stanford School of Medicine have used DNA testing on the fossilized skeleton. Despite the figure being only 6 inches long, the testing revealed that it comes from a human who was 6 to 8 years old when they died.

The researchers have not yet determined what deformities may have led to the obviously strange skeletal figure. The age of the skeleton has also not yet been determined, though the current estimate is that the person it belonged to died “at least a few decades ago.”

The tiny skeleton is featured prominently in a new documentary by noted UFO conspiracist Steven Greer, titled Sirius.

Judging from the movie’s trailer, Greer isn’t too interested in proving that extraterrestrials exist – he takes that as a given. Instead, he seeks to expose a purported conspiracy of corporate interests and oil conglomerates to keep alien technology a secret

  • FBI UFO Memo is the Agency’s Most-Requested

The FBI revealed this week in a blog post that an agency memo referring to “flying saucers” is the most-requested file in the FBI vault.

The memo is dated March 22, 1950 and was written by the FBI’s Washington, D.C. field office head at the time, Guy Hottel.

The document is freely available via the FBI records vault. It reads:

An investigator for the Air Forces stated that three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots.

According to Mr. [REDACTED] informant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Government has a very high-powered radar set-up in the area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controlling mechanics of the saucers.

No further evaluation was attempted by SA [REDACTED] concerning the above.

According to the FBI, the Hottel memo was first released to the public in the 1970s. Though it is often assumed to be connected to the legendary Roswell UFO crash, the memo is dated almost three years after the Roswell incident.

The agency also stressed that the Hottel memo is not proof of extraterrestrials, in that it refers to a second- or third-hand account that was never investigated further.

  • Russell Crowe UFO Video Leaves Twitter Fans Baffled

Russel Crowe may be scheduled to play Superman’s father, Jor-El, in the upcoming Superman movie reboot Man of Steel, but it wasn’t a flying Kryptonian that Crowe spotted outside his Sydney offices this week.

The actor posted a YouTube video to his Twitter account this week, showing what he claims in a genuine UFO. Crowe stated that he and a friend set up a Cannon 5D outside his office in Sydney to capture images of fruit bats “rising from Botanic Gardens. Instead, three photos taken over 4.5 seconds show something brightly lit passing over the scenery very quickly.

Crowe is technically accurate in that the object in the photos is unidentified and appears to be flying. However, dressing the video up with sinister music and weird editing to imply an alien presence implies that the actor is simply trolling his Twitter followers.

The stunt has gained Crowe some attention on Twitter, though. The star has retweeted various stories about his video and has replied to several fan theories with his own explanations. He even showed that he’s in on the joke by retweeting what is clearly the best explanation for the phenomenon:

  • Declassified Documents Show Air Force Was Working On UFOs

Everybody loves a good UFO story. The fascination with alien spacecraft has been documented throughout the centuries with stories dating all the way back to 10th-century mentioning the circular flying machines. Flying saucers really took off in popular culture in the 50s, however, and we haven’t looked back.

It appears that not only filmmakers were obsessed with the flying saucer as recently declassified documents show the Air Force was working on their own UFOs. The National Archives has the scoop on Project 1794. The project was spearheaded by the US Air Force to create a flying saucer that could reach speeds of mach 4. Here’s some concept images of the machine:

    Air Force UFOs

    Air Force UFOs

The work on the Air Force’s UFO line was outsourced to a Canadian firm called Avro Aircraft Limited. The fruits of their labor would neve be seen outside the military as the Air Force pulled the plug on the project in 1960. Wired found what appears to be the only video footage available of the flying saucer that the Air Force was working on. Once you watch the video, it becomes immediately apparent as to why the Air Force canceled the project.

For many years, UFO sightings were attributed to secret aircraft testing by the Air Force. The above video shows that the Air Force and Avro were not able to lift their vehicle more than a few feet off the ground. If anything, these new documents are going to rekindle the debate on flying saucers and the authenticity of various sightings.

  • Study Claims That 1/3 Americans Believe In UFOs

Do you believe in UFOs? I know that I certainly do even though I have never even come close to seeing one. It is very hard for me to believe that in the billions of years that this universe has been around, there is not on species that has figured out interstellar travel. A new study that was released finds that 80 million Americans, or 36 percent of the population, believe UFOs are real and that 1 in 10 Americans believe that they have seen one.

Also the study found that if aliens were to invade the country sometime in the next four years, 65 percent of survey respondents said President Obama would be better suited for handling the invasion than Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The survey was commissioned by the National Geographic Channel to promote its new series “Chasing UFOs.”

To me what is even more astounding than the fact that 36% believe, is that 48 percent aren’t sure. Which means that the perception of aliens visiting our planet is becoming more and more accepting as time goes on. The new NatGeo survey found that a whopping 79 percent of people think the government has kept information about UFOs a secret from the public, and more than half (55 percent) believe there are real-life “Men in Black”-style agents who threaten people who spot UFOs.

So to wrap it up, lots of people believe in aliens, and even more believe that the government is hiding secrets from us.

  • Drone Mistaken for UFO in Washington, D.C. Causes Panic

A drone mistaken for a UFO in Washington, D.C. caused a lot of area residents to freak out, prompting several concerned individuals to place calls to 911. What folks witnessed, of course, was an experimental unmanned aircraft being transported on a flatbed truck down I-270. If the government intended to move an unidentified flying object from one destination to another, chances are they wouldn’t cart the thing around for everyone to see.

Naturally, nobody stopped to consider the reality of the situation. Instead, they did most would expect them to do: jump to ridiculous conclusions. In fact, after reading about the supposed UFO on Twitter — it was apparently trending at the time — a man called 911 in hopes of finding out if everyone was okay. At one point, the concerned citizen asks if the operator can get on Twitter to see the photos people have taken. You can listen to the entire call below.

The official word coming out of Northrop Grumman is that the terrifying object in question is an X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System, which was on its way to Maryland for testing. Conspiracy theorists will no doubt draw their own conclusions about the aircraft. After all, how else do you explain the vehicle’s peculiar shape?

“[It’s] a shape that minimizes its refection of potential … enemy radar signals,” Northrop Grumman spokesperson Brooks McKinney explained.

All kidding aside, the aircraft does strongly resemble an old-school, 1950’s B-movie flying saucer, so you can’t really blame people for getting a little worked up over its appearance. Still, considering the government claims UFOs don’t exist, I seriously doubt they’d transport one in such a conspicuous manner.

Hey, if nothing else, It certainly makes for a good story.

Washington D.C. Buzzing Over UFO Reports

The residents of Washington D.C. started blowing up Twitter last night over what they thought was a UFO being hauled by an 18 wheeler. Turns out he people were freaking out on Twitter over nothing. What they actually saw was Northrop Grumman’s X-47B drone. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has a very similar look, but on a much smaller scale, to the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.

The reports started rolling in with photos on Twitter last night. The military UAV’s are more than likely on their way to the Pax River Naval Station to practice carrier landings on the runway that is painted like a carrier deck. The hope is to have the X-47B mission ready soon. As soon as the tests are done at Pax River, they will try to land on a real carrier.

Reports have actually been coming in from around the country as the flatbed made it across the heartland. The local news in D.C. finally picked up on it and made sure people knew that it wasn’t a UFO.

Plus, like Twitter user @MarkDice said, “MORONS! If a UFO was strapped to the back of a flatbed, they would at least COVER IT UP!! #Drone thought to be UFO in DC.” Pretty much exactly what I was thinking. They would at least put a blue tarp over the top of it. People amaze me sometimes.
