  • Aaron Rodgers Injured, Won’t Return To Monday Night Football

You could have heard a pin drop in Lambeau at the end of the Green Bay Packers opening drive, as their star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, was injured. He has since been ruled out for the remainder of the game with an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder.

After some early sideline tests by the Packers medical staff, Rodgers was seen jogging to the team locker room. It should be noted that the team doctor returned to the sideline, without Rodgers. Take from that what you will, but the fear is that the injury could be diagnosed as a collarbone fracture.

At the moment Seneca Wallace has taken over the All-Pro quarterback, but you’ll probably see the Packers put a claim on Matt Flynn, or maybe even Vince Young.

This will be an interesting story line to follow, as the Packers, Lions, and Bears essentially mirror each others record in the tight NFC North.

Below you can read some Twitter reaction to the news of Aaron Rodgers injury:

  • L.A. Kings Win the Stanley Cup – Twitter Reacts

The Los Angeles Kings started the championship series 3-0 and had two chances to put out the New Jersey Devils last week and failed on both occasions. But they never gave up, and yesterday they finally took the series and the Stanley Cup.

The game was one sided for the Kings, who scored 3 goals in a row off the power play and kept pouring it on for the 6-1 victory. Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis scored two goals a piece, and MVP Jonathan Quick made 17 saves. This is the first Stanley Cup victory for the Kings, who have been a team for 45 years. Barely even making the playoffs to begin with, they are the first 8th seeded team to win the title.

Continuing the celebration, and giving one last chance for L.A. to see their newly championed Kings, the team will hold a parade and “Championship rally” in downtown Los Angeles Thursday. Players and coaches will ride on a double decker bus through downtown in a 45 minute long parade. This wil be followed by the championship rally at the Staples Center, which will include video highlights, presentations and speeches from players.

Fans have taken to Twitter to express their joy and astonishment at the Kings first ever Stanley cup victory. Here is a collection of the best/funniest/most interesting of the lot, including an ecstatic celebration from die hard Kings fan Wil Wheaton. He is almost brought to tears after throwing his arms in the air and running around his house screaming in celebration… It’s all done to a kazoo rendition of The Final Countdown, so it’s pretty fun to watch.

  • Keira Knightly Congratulated by Twitter

Fan reaction to news of actress Keira Knightley’s recent engagement has been mixed, to say the least. We’ve already shown how male fans of Hollywood’s hottest ultra-thin, non-breast-enhanced actress have reacted – they were devastated. However, the internet isn’t all doom-and-gloom when it comes to celebrity romance. Many fans were able to put aside their lust for the actress and wish her well on the road to marriage.

Knightley became engaged this week to British indie-rocker James Righton. No details of the engagement, including wedding plans or engagement ring size and expense, have yet been released. Knightley is best known for her role as Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Righton is the keyboardist for the band Klaxons. Here is a sample of the congratulatory tweets that were sent out to Knightley:

  • Mark Zuckerberg is Trending on Twitter

What did you expect? Mark Zuckerberg is the toast of planet Earth right now, as his multi-billion dollar IPO, Facebook, officially hits NASDAQ. Most of it is updates on Mark Zuckerberg’s current wealth, which is growing by the minute as his shares climb on the exchange. This is to be expected considering the initial high demand of Facebook stock. Eventually it will level out, and Zuckerberg will only be left with a few billion. Poor guy.

  • Richard Rosenblatt Says Yahoo’s CEO Should Resign

Demand Media CEO Richard Rosenblatt is joining the debate about how Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson should react to the recent uncovering of his false credentials by activist investor Dan Loeb. If you recall, Loeb and his investment firm Third Point felt compelled to dig up some dirt on Yahoo’s leadership after he was denied a seat on the board of directors at the company.

So far, Thompson has failed to directly address the allegations (which have pretty much been confirmed) by Loeb and it has many executives and shareholders over at Yahoo feeling pretty uneasy.

All Things D reporter Kara Swisher has been staying in the loop of things over at Yahoo and she reached out to Rosenblatt for his commentary on the matter. He got back to her on Twitter and Business Insider was the first to report back on that conversation.

We will keep you posted as things unravel at Yahoo. In the meantime you can take a look at Rosenblatt’s commentary via Twitter on Thompson’s debacle:

  • Kentucky Derby on Twitter: Picks and Mint Juleps

The Kentucky Derby is anyone’s race. Unless you get a freak of nature horse like Secretariat, the race could be run over and over again with a different result every time. That doesn’t stop people from using every resource and method out there for picking their favorites.

One method is probably as good as another. Some people just choose the prettiest horse. Others choose the one with the best name. Some people spend weeks watching the favorites and analyzing post positions to get their gambling strategy down to a “science”.

What ever your strategy is, we can all agree that it is the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. • Instagram Users Threatening to Leave

Within a week of finally releasing its Android version, Instagram, the social photo-sharing app for smartphones, has been sold to Facebook for a hefty $1 billion. Now, users of the service are up in arms, and some are threatening to leave altogether.

There is no telling what this sale means for Instagram, other than its founders are now incredibly wealthy. Mark Zuckerberg stated that the Instagram team would be joining Facebook, so there’s hope that those employees might be able to make Facebook’s photo-sharing much better. But Instagram users aren’t happy with their cool, new, hip app now being a part of that ancient social-medial monster, Facebook. Mashable is reporting that services allowing users to export their photos from Instagram are becoming clogged as users rush to save their pics. It’s unlikely, though, that Facebook would simply delete all those photos.

Now the elitism exhibited by iPhone users upon the Android Instagram’s release has shifted and the entire smartphone community seems to be up in arms about the sale. It’s the kind of behavior that makes me question who uses Instagram. I suppose it might be somewhat justified, though, as I’m sure many Instagram users saw the app as something that should be completely separate from their other social media. Judge for yourself whether Instagram users are overreacting or whether the world truly is ending:

  • Power Of Light Transfers One Trillion Bits/Second

Power Of Light Transfers One Trillion Bits/Second

Researchers at IBM have been busy perfecting a new technique which allows an optical chip to transfer one terabit (one trillion bits) of information per second. The technology will be useful in powering new supercomputers and helping data centers manage information. The new chip, being called “Holey Optochip”, exceeds current data transfer speeds by over eight times.

The technique used to make the chip function involves making minuscule holes in a .250 of an inch micro optical chip to increase transfer rates. IBM has supplied a look at the chip below:

The recent demand for this technology has fueled the efforts at IBM as both corporate and consumer networks continue to grow. Optical connection significantly increase data transfer when compared with conventional electrical pulses. Optical connections have become the new standard in data transfer and this newest vein of research from IBM will propel the technology to even greater nights.

IBM Researcher Clint Schow, who helped develop the new optical chip, comments on the new technology:

“Reaching the one trillion bit per second mark with the Holey Optochip marks IBM’s latest milestone to develop chip-scale transceivers that can handle the volume of traffic in the era of big data,”

“We have been actively pursuing higher levels of integration, power efficiency and performance for all the optical components through packaging and circuit innovations. We aim to improve on the technology for commercialization in the next decade with the collaboration of manufacturing partners.”

Here’s what a finished chip looks like:

Here’s what folks on Twitter had to say about the breakthrough:
