Twitter Polls Are Popular, Get More Flexibility

Twitter tested polls for a long time before launching the feature last fall.

Since then, I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen polls put to use quite a few times since then.

Twitter made a couple of related announcements today. For one, users have cast 1.7 billion votes in Twitter polls since the October launch.

Additionally, Twitter announced that you can now adjust how long your Twitter polls run. This is an important feature for making these things more useful.

I’m glad to see that Twitter continues to improve polls rather than just launching and leaving it alone. A couple months ago, they also started letting users add more choices.

This is also the latest example of Twitter easing up on limitations of its service. As you probably know, the Twitterverse is expecting expanded character limits in tweets in the near future.

Sometimes things aren’t always black or white. There are more than two ways to answer many questions. It’s helpful then that Twitter has decided to reflect that with an update to its polling feature.

Twitter launched its polls feature about a month ago, and people have been using them quite a bit. However, until now, they’ve only let the poll creators provide two options for their audiences.

As Twitter demonstrates in a poll of its own today (h/t: Marketing Land), you can now provide up to four answers.

When you go to create a poll, it will still default at two, but you’ll see the ability to add additional options.

It would be nice to be able to include even more options, and maybe that will happen eventually, but for now, it’s definitely an improvement.
