  • Jenna Coleman Confirms She’s Staying on ‘Doctor Who

Jenna Coleman has no doubt given Doctor Who fans the best holiday gift of all. She confirmed just days ago that she planned to stay on through season 9, portraying the immensely popular Clara Oswald. Fans had likely been biting their nails ever since Jenna let on that she was unsure as to whether or not she would return.

“It’s wonderful,” she said during an interview with the New York Daily News. “I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved. There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.”

Coleman seemed especially excited to be once again teamed with the Twelfth Doctor, who is played by Peter Capaldi.

“It’s wonderful. I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved,” she said. “There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.”

Clara was first paired with the Eleventh Doctor, who was played by Matt Smith. With Capaldi now playing the iconic character, Coleman said that she has enjoyed the experience of ‘depicting the duo’s evolving relationship.’

“The arrival of the Twelfth Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change,” Jenna said. “So I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.”

What does the Doctor think about Jenna Coleman sticking around for at least another season?

“I’m thrilled,” Capaldi said. “Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with.”

  • Peter Capaldi’s New Doctor Who Outfit Revealed On Facebook

During the ending of the most recent Doctor Who Christmas Special “The Time of the Doctor,” fellow Whovians bid goodbye to Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, and ushered in Peter Capaldi, the new and upcoming Twelfth Doctor. Back in August of 2013, it was announced that Capaldi would be replacing Smith in the British sci-fi series; however, we have not had a really good look into the type of Doctor he will be portraying until now.

Capaldi, 55 from Glasgow, Scotland, is not new to the Doctor Who show. In 2008, he played a minor role as Caecilius in “The Fires of Pompeii,” and as John Frobisher in the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood: Children of Earth. Now, Capaldi gets to play the main role of the Doctor in a way that is unique to him.

As each new Doctor has embarked on his journey in the TARDIS, the Doctor’s wardrobe/outfit always changes. For some Doctors on the show, they have their staple fashion item as well (e.g. Tom Baker – Scarf, Matt Smith – bowtie/fez).

On February 27th, the Doctor Who world got a sneak peek into the Twelfth Doctor’s new look. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), along with the station’s various affiliates (BBC One, BBC America, etc.), posted a picture on Facebook and Twitter of Peter Capaldi donning his new character’s outfit (shown below).

An article published by The Telegraph provides a great description of Capaldi’s new wardrobe:

“This time the Doctor will be clad in a a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt and black Dr Marten shoes. The look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.”

Various Whovians from the Twitterverse have commented on Capaldi’s new Doctor Who wardrobe:

  • “Doctor Who” Reveals Twelfth Doctor

Whovians needn’t wait any longer to find out who Matt Smith’s Doctor will regenerate into – Peter Capaldi will be the new Time Lord traveling in the TARDIS.

During a special on Sunday, the world watched as Capaldi was presented as the new Doctor.

“Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it’s been so fantastic,” said Capaldi.

The newly minted twelfth Doctor said he found out about his new job while filming in Prague. After seeing a missed call from his agent, he called back and his agent answered, “Hello Doctor.”

Capaldi is best known for playing the role of Malcom Tucker in the BBC sitcom The Thick of It from 2005 to 2012. Tucker was a political spin doctor known for dropping f-bombs. He won a BAFTA Award for Best Performance in a Comedy Role and two British Comedy Awards for the role.

Twitter was bombarded with tweets about the anticipation and the announcement of the new doctor.

The official Doctor Who twitter account has already released a video of Capaldi introducing himself as the new Doctor.

A videotaped message of Smith to Capaldi ended the special, “I just want to wish my successor all the best and say good luck and good on you for getting it. I know he’s a huge fan of the show and a really nice guy. The casting of it made me really excited it. I think it’s a really canny choice. Good luck, man. It’s going to be a thrill.”

Fans now have a 50th anniversary special in November to look forward to, as well as Smith’s last episode in the Christmas special. New episodes of Doctor Who will air in August.
