  • Jodie Sweetin To Star In New Docu-Comedy ‘Hollywood Darlings’ With Childhood Friends

American actress Jodie Sweetin will reunite with her Hollywood childhood friends, Beverley Mitchell and Christine Lakin in a new TV series entitled Hollywood Darlings, which is expected to premiere in 2017.

Sweetin, 34, whose Fuller House from Netflix has been approved for a second season, will star in the docu-comedy, which aims to showcase the real-life fun that the three friends go through every day.

According to a report, a docu-comedy is a series wherein scenes are edited to make them funny rather than dramatic.

Starting their careers at an early age, Sweetin was popular in the TV series Full House, while Mitchell, 35, gained fame for playing Lucy Camden in 7th Heaven. Lakin, 37, on the other hand, was notable for her role as Alicia Lambert in Step by Step.

Hollywood Darlings is a half-hour pop show that will follow the real-life roles of the three friends as they take on the challenges of becoming “moms, wives, and businesswomen.”

“Anyone who was a TV fan in the ‘90s grew up with Jodie, Christine and Beverley –aspiring to be their best friends, wanting to dress like them and using their popular catchphrases,” said Paul Adler, Pop’s senior vice president of original programing and development.

In addition, Adler said that the show will allow the viewers and fans to get a glimpse of the lives of the three former child stars and find out how entertaining and relatable their routines are.

“Yay! I love these ladies, and we’re going to have so much fun!” said Jodie Sweetin in an Instagram post.

According to another report by E! Online, viewers of the upcoming TV show should expect some celebrity cameos by virtue of their close friendships with the main characters of the show

The upcoming series will be produced by Objective Productions USA and All3Media America.

  • Downton Abbey Ends After 6 Seasons, Christmas Day Finale Tops UK Ratings

British drama series Downton Abbey has ended after six seasons, with its finale airing in the UK on Christmas Day.

The TV series topped the UK ratings on Christmas Day, which is the first time the show achieved the feat.

In the swan song episode, Lady Edith and Bertie Pelham have a happy ending, Lady Mary found out she was having a child, and Anna and Mr. Bates welcome their newborn.

The Downton Abbey Finale Hits US Audiences Soon

There have been reports stating that the series ended due to the fact that the Downton Abbey bosses failed to secure Dame Maggie Smith for the seventh season.

Gareth Neame, the show’s producer, said that Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess Lady Violet Crawley, did not confirm her appearance for another season.

“We easily could have gone for a 7th season, but if I’d have said “We haven’t got Maggie” it would have been a shadow of itself,” Neame added.

Nevertheless, the award-winning producer said that they still feel blessed. The management and the cast do not regret the ending because they were still ahead when they ended the show.

“We had the ambition that we had a complete show,” he said.

In the final scene filmed at the Ritz Hotel in London, Neame even found a way to “insert himself”, where he came in dressed like one of the Ritz’s staff.

While Downton Abbey officially ended last week on Christmas Day, there may be possibilities of a cinematic spin-off of the story.

“There is no script and no firm plan but it’s certainly something there is talk of. We’re not in denial about anything. We’ll know more next year,” Neame said.

There were reports that Neame and writer Julian Fellowes “are keen” to make the project happen.

Meanwhile, other top performers along with Downton Abbey on Christmas Day include the Strictly Christmas Special, Queen, Mrs. Brown’s Boys, and Doctor Who.

  • ‘Downton Abbey’ Star Maggie Smith Plans To Binge-Watch Her Own TV Show

Unlike most people her age, Dame Maggie Smith has hardly any time to plant herself on a couch and watch TV all day. Even it means watching her own TV drama series, Downton Abbey.

The 81-year old British actress, who is definitely one of the most esteemed thespians of our time, recently sat down with CBS’ Sunday Morning to talk about her illustrious acting career as well as her plans after Downton Abbey comes to a close.

Dame Maggie Smith Talks About the End of ‘Downton Abbey’

A little over a year ago, Smith revealed that she hadn’t seen a single episode of Downton Abbey and during this recent interview, she admitted that she still hasn’t found the time to enjoy the show.

However, the producers of Downton Abbey may have done something to remedy the situation. Smith implied that she is ready to binge-watch the series now that she has a lot more time on her hands.

“They gave me the boxed set. And I’m going to do all sorts of things now, ‘cause I’m free!” Smith enthusiastically mentioned in the interview.

The British period drama just wrapped up its sixth and final season after first airing in 2010. While British viewers were able to enjoy the finale on Christmas day, American audiences will have to wait a little longer to see how the show ends.

Aside from the grueling shoots, Dame Maggie also admitted that she is relieved that she will no longer be wearing those uncomfortable and restrictive corsets that her character Dowager Countess Violet Crawley donned on the show.

She confessed, however, that she used her acclaimed acting skills to evade the use of corsets.

Watch Dame Maggie Smith’s Best Moments on ‘Downton Abbey’

“In actual fact, I have to say that I did cheat a bit,” Smith said. “Because I promised that if I sat up, bolt upright, I made it look as though I were wearing corsets. Don’t tell anybody… I don’t want it to be put around. I was tortured every day.”

Maggie Smith Stars in ‘Lady in the Van’

Dame Maggie Smith is moving on from her aristocratic role on Downton Abbey by portraying a lady who has spent more than a decade stalking a famous playwright in Lady in the Van.

  • Jodie Sweetin And Estranged Husband Fighting Over Kindergarten

Where to send your child for kindergarten is a problem that most parents happily, and easily, face. Unfortunately for Jodie Sweetin, she and her ex-husband can’t decide on the where.

The Full House actress’ 4-year-old daughter Beatrix is set to start kindergarten. But while Sweetin wants to enroll Beatrix in the same school that her other young daughter is going to, Beatrix’ father Morty Coyle wants her to go to a school closer to him.

The estranged couple were married in 2012 and separated in 2013.

The impasse has prompted the 33-year-old mother to file a petition granting her the right to make the final decision regarding her daughter’s education.

No decision regarding her case has been made yet.

Sweetin certainly has come a long way since her beleaguered days after Full House ended.

At the time, the actress became dependent on drugs and alcohol but has bounced back since then. Her memoir UnSweetined detailed her journey into addiction and her recovery from it.

And now it seems the TV actress has dedicated the majority of her energy into her children. As she pointed out in her petition to a judge, she’s hands on when it comes to her kid’s education and regularly participates in school activities.

Hopefully she can still do that now that Sweetin is set to join the original cast of Full House in the series’ reboot.

Sweetin will reprise her role as Stephanie Tanner in the new Fuller House. The younger Tanner sister is now older and an aspiring musician. She moves back to San Francisco to help her sister DJ raise her children.

Fuller House will revolve around DJ Tanner-Fuller, a recently widowed veterinarian who moved back home with her 2 kids and is pregnant with her third child. The long awaited reboot to the popular TV show will premier in 2016 with the first episode rumored to be a one-hour reunion special of the Tanner family.

  • Katherine Heigl Is Not In The Adult Film Business, Films Steamy Scene For TV

Katherine Heigl is known by some for being “difficult” to work with, and a photo she posted on Instagram recently shows what the lengths her crew might go to please her. The photo shows Heigl covered only by a blanket and surrounded by several shirtless men.

“Nope I haven’t gone into the adult film business… just having a little fun w/ my amazingly supportive crew who shed their shirts in solidarity!! Love you all!! @carnojoe @tallmanmark,” wrote Heigl on the photo she posted a week ago on Instagram on. The crew voluntarily stripped down to show support for Heigl as she shot a particularly steamy scene from her new show State of Affairs. One of the men in the photo was Heigl’s co-star Mark Tallman.

State of Affairs is Heigl’s first TV series since she left the highly popular Grey’s Anatomy in 2010. Her TV role is that of Charleston Tucker, a CIA analyst working for the president on matters of international security. Heigl’s show premieres this November 17 on NBC.

Heigl is also set to star in the upcoming black comedy Home Sweet Hell opposite Patrick Wilson. In the film, Heigl plays the Stepford Wife-type spouse of Wilson’s character, who follows everything that his wife says. When Wilson’s character ends up being blackmailed by his employee-turned-lover, played by Jordana Brewster, Heigl’s character takes the matter into her own hands and decides to kill her.

Home Sweet Hell plays off Heigl’s physical attributes as well. The 35-year-old actress strips to her underwear as the murderous housewife, Mona Champagne. Mona doesn’t want to get blood on herself, so she decides to wear only her underwear before killing her husband’s lover. Directed by Anthony Burns, Home Sweet Hell is a dark comedy that also stars Kevin McKidd, Jim Belushi, A.J. Buckley and Bryce Johnson.

  • Dermot Mulroney Scar Explained, ‘Crisis’ Role Examined

In a very detailed interview with actor Dermot Mulroney, one question that came up was in reference to the 50-year-old’s lip scar.

The scar, located below his right nostril, has been a noticeable physical feature since the start of his acting career.

Like any other nosey person, I too have wondered how the scar got there, and it’s rather interesting to hear the story behind it.

“It was a long time ago, so I’ve always had it,” he told the Chicago Sun Times magazine, Splash. “I was 3½ and I was carrying a dish for our pet rabbits. And I tripped and it broke, and I fell on it. I definitely remember that day, even though I was 3 years old. I don’t think about it or see it, but it’s always been there.

The About Schmidt star surely appears to be unashamed of his perfectly imperfect flaw-especially since he never conceals it.

“It certainly has its place on my face, right below my right nostril. That’s where it belongs.”

Mulroney, who is also recognized for last year’s featured roles in New Girl, is currently in Chicago working on the new television drama Crisis.

He adds that filming the series in Chicago brings back fond memories of the movie My Best Friend’s Wedding, which he shot with Julia Roberts in 1997.

“Coming back here to shoot [‘Crisis’], I’ll go by a stairway to an L where I know we shot a scene, or by a nightclub where we filmed. I’m always happening upon these locations that I shot at 16, 17 years ago, and I remember them like it was yesterday.”

The premier episode aired last week for the first time on NBC.

The actor explains that portraying secret service agent Thomas Gibson is quite out of his element, but he still welcomes the idea of exploring a daring and hostile character.

“I’ve finally understood what people mean when they say, ‘The character got under my skin.’ I’m exploring the psychology of a man who has elements in his personality unchecked by conventional thinking. I’ve had some dark thoughts these days.”

Mulroney mentioned that he does, however, admires his character’s intelligence.

“But the thing that most impresses me about Gibson is how truly genius he is. It’s fun to play a character that is vastly more intelligent than I am, to be frank. It made me feel really smart.”

Crisis will air Sundays at 10 p.m. on NBC.

  • ‘Two Fat Ladies’ TV Star Clarissa Dickson Wright Dies at 66

The last TV personality of Britain’s Two Fat Ladies has passed away.

At the age of 66 years old, Clarissa Dickson Wright died Saturday at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary.

Her cause of death was said to be unknown.

Born on June 14, 1947 as Clarissa Theresa Philomena Aileen Mary Josephine Agnes Elsie Trilby Louise Esmeralda Dickson Wright, the TV star grew up in London.

According to CBS News, Dickson Wright dealt with alcoholism later in life during her career as an attorney. After recovering from alcoholism and leaving the legal profession, she became a caterer and ran a cookery bookstore.

BBC scouted her for the TV show series while she was working at the bookstore.

At the time, Dickson Wright said she had no professional experience in cooking, but she became a dynamic duo along with co-host Jennifer Paterson.

Here is a 1998 interview of the pair:

The international program became an immediate hit, showing the pair touring Britain in sidecars and on motorcycles. Dickson Wright and Paterson were mainly known for traveling to various locations to cook exotic meals and share culinary advice.

“She [Dickson Wright] was a force of nature and a true character, someone who knew how to tell a great story and had a fabulous sense of humor,” said show producer, Patricia Llewellyn.

The show came to an end, however, in 1999 when Paterson died from cancer at the age of 71.

The TV cook celebrity later released an autobiography in 2007 titled Spilling The Beans. She also appeared in other TV series.

Her agent, Heather Holden-Brown, told BBC News Monday, “Her fun and laughter, extraordinary learning and intelligence, will be missed always by so many of us. Loved dearly by her friends and many fans all over the world, Clarissa was utterly non-PC and fought for what she believed in, always, with no thought to her own personal cost.”

  • ‘Enlisted’ Premieres with Great Reviews

    ‘Enlisted’ Premieres with Great Reviews

Fox Network’s newest comedy, Enlisted, premiered this past Friday and looks to be off to a great start. The show is being dubbed as a “workplace comedy,” albiet one that takes place on a military base instead of a traditional office, and focuses more on three brothers living and interacting with each other than on war.

In the show, Sgt. Pete Hill is sent back home from overseas for punching out a lower-ranking Colonel. In his fall from glory, he’s put in charge of a platoon in the Rear D unit on Fort McGee, Florida. In this platoon are his two younger brothers: Derrick, the smart ass, and Randy, a much more sensitive and fragile type. The platoon is dubbed as “not quite good enough to be sent overseas, yet not bad enough to be kicked out of the Army. These are the men and women who mow lawns at the base, sort mail, wash tanks, find lost dogs and maybe engage in a war game or two.”

Show creator Kevin Biegel tells TV Guide that he hopes the show will be an honest portrayal of the men and women serving their country. “The people I know who do this job…they’re real human beings and they’re very funny and they talk about their work and their job is sometimes crazy and sometimes boring and sometimes wondrous and sometimes inspiring.”

Critics have been quick to spot the show’s unique portrayal of military life, one that strays from Hollywood’s typical portrait. Robert Lloyd, LA Times TV critic, says the show is really “soft and romantic at its core. It could as easily have been set in a summer camp or a ballclub. But the military theme works well, as it pays due respect to those who only wash and mow.”

There’s also something to be said about the great chemistry between the three brothers, making it as much a family comedy as a “military workplace” one. Forbes reviewer Merrill Barr writes that the show is essentially built on the way the brothers interact with each other and their platoon. “This is where Enlisted finds the one thing that was going to make or break the series: charm. Pete is a fish out of water, Derrick is a cynical mess and Randy is a lovable buffoon, and through those highly different personalities, Enlisted makes the audience care about the misplaced men in green.”

Entertainment Weekly reviewer Samantha Highfill agrees that the show’s strength its all in the characters. “I’m already falling for some of these people,” she writes. “Whether they’re playing war games or just trying to do some jumping jacks, I can see how these characters are going to work together moving forward, and I’m excited for what will come next.”
