  • Anna Paquin Joins Cast of ‘Roots’ Remake

Anna Paquin has joined the cast of the upcoming A&E remake of Roots. Roots was originally released in 1977 as a TV miniseries. It followed a young African man named Kunta Kinte, who was sold into slavery in colonial America.

Now filming in New Orleans, Anna Paquin will play the role of Nancy Holt. Holt is the wife of a Confederate soldier, and has her own agenda–one that differs completely from that of her husband–regarding the handling of the slaves.

Paquin is best known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse on HBO’s True Blood. She even married her True Blood costar Stephen Moyer. Her role garnered several Teen Choice Awards nominations.

Back in March it was announced that Anna Paquin would star in an HBO miniseries called Madame X, to be produced by Jack Black. Anna Paquin will also serve as executive producer.

The role of Nancy Holt in the upcoming Roots remake is a vast cry from most of the roles Anna Paquin has played. Fans are likely thrilled to learn she has been cast in the four-part miniseries.

Roots is set to air on A&E some time in 2016.

  • Katey Sagal, Stephen Moyer Set to Star in New FX Series By Kurt Sutter, ‘The Bastard Executioner’

Katey Sagal and Stephen Moyer are set to star in a new FX Series.

Now that Sons of Anarchy and True Blood are over, fans have been a little bummed. However, this new FX series may be just what fans need to cheer up.

SOA‘s Katey Sagal and True Blood‘s Moyer are set to costar in the period drama The Bastard Executioner, the new series by SOA creator and Sagal’s husband Kurt Sutter.

The plot follows a warrior knight, played by Australian newcomer Lee Jones, who finds himself discouraged from the savagery of war but is forced to fight once again for King Edward I.

Moyer will play “a street-smart and noble savvy, and one of Ventris’ former marshals in the army who now, serves as his chamberlain, chancellor and justiciar – and friend and drinking mate,” Variety reported.

Katey Sagal will play Annora of the Alders, described as “prescient, mystical and beautiful. She offers predictions, cures and potions,” according to Variety.

The Bastard Executioner also stars Sutter, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White and Sarah Sweeny.

Another FX regular Matthew Rhys of The Americans will guest star on the series.

Paris Barclay will direct the pilot and produce alongside Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo.

Shooting is set to begin March 19 in Wales.

  • Sofia Vergara, Joe Manganiello: Have They Found A Surrogate?

Sofia Vergara, star of Modern Family, and her fiance, True Blood star Joe Manganiello may have found a surrogate to carry their biological child. The Christian Post reports that Vergara and the Magic Mike actor are have found a surrogate and will soon be contracting with her to have their baby.

The couple publicly announced their engagement in December last year after six months of dating. They have reportedly been looking for a surrogate for the last two months, and have only recently found a match meeting their requirements.

“It was hard, because Sofía wanted to make sure that the woman was someone she could trust,” a source recently told InTouch Weekly.

No one is releasing the likely surrogate’s name out of privacy for her and for Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello and their families. It is said, however, that the surrogate-to-be works closely with Vergara and is her friend.

“Sofía is friends with this woman and spends a lot of time with her,” the source continued, “so she can watch the pregnancy firsthand as if it were her own.”

Sofia Vergara is already the mother of a 23-year-old son. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez, when she was just 18. The reason she won’t carry this baby herself is said to be a “closely guarded secret.”

Hopefully everything works out between Sofia Vergara, Joe Manganiello, and this as yet unnamed surrogate. Maybe by the time the couple ties the knot, their baby will be well on his or her way.

  • Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello Engaged, Nick Loeb Reacts

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello got engaged over Christmas, and while their excitement is no doubt palpable, how do you suppose the Modern Family star’s ex-fiancee, Nick Loeb, is feeling since hearing the big announcement?

Surprisingly, Loeb reacted with nothing but kindness and grace.

“She is beautiful and majestic and therefore to be loved,” he said during an interview with Us Weekly. “Beyond all else in life she deserves happiness, the kind that only true love can bring.”

Not many exes would react in such a humble, gracious manner.

It was only eight months ago when Nick Loeb and Sofia Vergara parted ways. Just two months later she started dating the True Blood star. And on Christmas Day, with their families present, Manganiello popped the question. The whole extended family was together in Hawaii celebrating his 38th birthday.

“He wanted to do it in front of her family,” a source said.

“Sofia was staring at her hand at the pool and couldn’t stop smiling. The ring is giant and very sparkly. It stands out from a mile away and is hard to miss. She and Joe are crazy about each other!” another source shared.

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have reportedly enjoyed every day since becoming engaged, celebrating their engagement and their family ties, at the luxurious St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai.

“It was one celebration after the next and they had family around to make it even more special,” the source adds. “They told the staff at the hotel it was a trip of a lifetime and one they will never forget.”

No wedding date has yet been divulged to the media. How long do you suppose it might be before Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello tie the knot?

And how do you suppose Nick Loeb really feels? Is he genuinely happy for the couple or simply behaving in a most gentlemanly manner?

  • Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello Are Engaged After ‘True Blood’ Actor Proposes in Hawaii

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are engaged and headed to the alter.

Manganiello reportedly proposed to the Modern Family actress on Christmas while vacationing in Hawaii.

“They are very happy and very much in love,” a source told Page Six of the engagement.

Vergara, 42, was snapped showing off a ginormous diamond ring on her left hand as she received a kiss from Manganiello at a luxury resort in Hawaii.

Quite possibly the hottest couple on the planet have been together since June, after they were introduced at the White House Correspondents Dinner in May.

Vergara posted a photo of the newly engaged pair on Instagram Saturday, celebrating Manganiello’s 38th birthday, although there was no mention of their engagement.

Manganiello made his feelings for the sultry actress known very early on, calling Vergara his “dream girl.”

“She’s got the butt, she’s got the curves, she’s got a beautiful face, beautiful hair, just gorgeous. And she’s feisty,” he said.

As for Vergara, she shared with Kelly Ripa in September what she loves about her True Blood guy.

“He’s a great guy, he’s very funny,” she said. “And he’s very entertaining which is very important for me because I need to be with somebody that knows how to have fun because I like to have fun.”

  • Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello Will ‘Have Hot Babies’, Says ‘Modern Family’ Co-star Sarah Hyland

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have only been an item for a few weeks, yet predictions seem to already be underway on how hot the couple’s future children might be.

Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland is already looking forward to her co-star and the True Blood actor having beautiful little children together.

The 23-year-old actress told Us Weekly at the Celebration of Dance Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, that she approves of the coupling.

“Him and Sofia together, I’m all for it! They’d make really hot babies!” said Hyland.

Hyland said she has not yet spoken to the 42-year-old Colombian beauty about the relationship, but thinks they would be good together — in a matter of speaking.

“I think they are super hot together,” she said.

Sarah had nothing but good things to say about People‘s Hottest Bachelor 2014.

“I know Joe, and he is divine. He played my boyfriend’s dad in an episode of Medium, so we’ve known him for quite some time. He’s just an amazing person,” she said. “and I love them individually.”

The 41-year-old actress and Manganiello met at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this year and were “flirting” and “exchanged numbers.”

“It is early days, but there is a big mutual attraction,” a source told Page Six earlier this month.

Manganiello hasn’t minced words when it comes to his feelings for Vergara. He laid it all out there in his People‘s Hottest Bachelor interview.

“I love a butt. Sofía Vergara, that’s it. She’s got that Latin thing going. She’s got curves, she’s got a beautiful face, beautiful hair, just gorgeous. And she’s feisty!” he said.

“There was a picture someone snapped at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where they caught me looking at Sofia Vergara’s butt,” he continued. “When you talk about being manipulated, that’s what I’m talking about. It’s like a moment of zen. There is nothing in my brain. If only I could meditate that well. I don’t go after other people’s women. She’s got a guy. If she was single, I would be like, poof!”

  • Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finds Its Female Lead in ‘True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finds Its Female Lead in ‘True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll

With True Blood ending after this season, its actors are looking for new gigs. Deborah Ann Woll, who plays vampire Jessica on the HBO show, has found hers over at Netflix.

Variety reports that the actress has joined the Netflix original Marvel’s Daredevil series – not just cast, but tapped as the female lead. She’ll play the blind hero’s love interest, Karen Page.

Back in May, the series found its lead in Charlie Cox, probably best known for his work on Boardwalk Empire. Soon after, Vincent D’Onofrio signed on to play Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin.

Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson and Peter Shinkoda have also signed on as series regulars.

Netflix and Disney announced a deal that would bring the Marvel Universe Netflix’s original series lineup last November. W soon learned that there would be numerous series to come from that deal, including Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Daredevil will be the first series to premiere. All of those shows will eventually culminate in an “epic” miniseries event, The Defenders.

Daredevil will premiere some time in 2015 with 13 episodes.

  • Sofia Vergara On the Rebound With ‘True Blood’ Star Joe Manganiello

Recently single Sofía Vergara seems to have moved on from her ex-fiancé Nick Loeb and straight into the arms of True Blood star Joe Manganiello.

The Modern Family actress and People‘s Hollywood’s Hottest Bachelor, Manganiello, were spotted having brunch Sunday afternoon in New Orleans, where Vergara is filming the comedy Don’t Mess With Texas with costar Reese Witherspoon.

A photo was posted on Instagram of Vergara and Manganiello canoodling at a table with a plate of fried chicken. The post has since been deleted.

“The restaurant was full with no tables available when they arrived with no reservation,” a witness told Page Six. “Sofía copped an attitude, and they made room for them.”

A source told Page Six that the 41-year-old actress and Manganiello met at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this year and were “flirting” and “exchanged numbers.” A bit awkward, perhaps, considering Vergara attended the event with Loeb.

“It is early days, but there is a big mutual attraction,” said another source.

It all seems so clear now. Vergara and Loeb, who had been dating on and off since 2010, split shortly after the DC event, with the actress announcing the news to her fans on WhoSay.

Manganiello hasn’t minced words when it comes to his lusting for — I mean crush on — Vergara.

Manganiello was engaged to actress Audra Marie in 2010 and most recently dated model Bridget Peters for more than a year.

  • Anna Paquin Talks True Blood Sex Scenes

Anna Paquin, star of the hit show True Blood, has opened up about filming the explicit sex scenes that go hand-in-hand with HBO’s creepy/campy vampire show.

Her husband and co-star Stephen Moyer (Vampire Bill) recently directed a love scene between Paquin’s character Sookie Stackhouse and werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello) for the season seven premiere on Sunday.

“It’s not as awkward as you would think. If you were to picture the perfect day at work for your spouse, would that be it? Probably not, but this is just kind of how it’s always been. So it doesn’t feel as bizarre” said Paquin.

Moyer seems just as comfortable directing his wife while she (fake) gets it on with another dude. “There are moments where I’ll be watching the monitor [and say] ‘Oh, Joe, just move your hand up towards Anna’s breast. And can you move your thumb just a little bit towards her nipple? Great.’ And then I’ll go ‘Babe, babe, enjoy it.’ I’m certainly talking to her as ‘babe.’ ‘Darling, go for it, yeah, feel the nipple.’”

Testament to Moyer’s incredible acting abilities, I have a hard time picturing Vampire Bill even saying the word nipple. Or babe. In the show, he’s far more likely to drawl/moan “Suuukie” while Sookie acrobatically and silently does all the work.

“Actually, it’s not really uncomfortable because we’re all like kind of cozy and friends. It’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll put my leg there, you put your hand there. It’s OK, whatever’” Paquin told E!News at the premiere. If I were Sookie, I would be a bit more bitter and a little less “whatever” (girlfriend is ALWAYS the one on top, despite vampires’ supposed endless stamina).

Contrary to her somewhat prudish (at least in Season 1) character, Paquin is very outspoken and comfortable with her sexuality, recently tweeting about how proud she is to be a bisexual mother (Paquin and Moyer welcomed twins in 2012).

Both have testified that working together has a positive effect on their personal relationship. “In a funny way, I feel like – without revealing too much – it’s quite interesting for us as a couple because we’ve kind of gone to places where a lot of people don’t get to,” said Moyer. “And we’re still here. And I think that’s good for us in a way.”

And it’s also good for us, the ones that have stuck with True Blood ’till the bitter end, just to watch crazy beautiful people remove their clothes and toe the “weird hot sex or beastiality?” line so we don’t have to. Thanks, True Blood. Thanks, HBO.

  • True Blood Returns This Sunday For Final Season

It’s summertime and with the hot weather and lazy days returns the HBO blood-filled drama True Blood. However, by the end of this summer, we won’t see any more new episodes. The seventh and final season of the series that pits vampires versus humans begins this Sunday at 9 pm.

Entertainment Weekly sat down for an interview with Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (Sookie Stackhouse and Vampire Bill). The pair, who have become estranged lovers on the show, got married in real life in 2010. Then had twins in 2012.

They’re on the cover of this week’s EW, lying in a wooden coffin. Paquin is in the buff, and Moyer has his fangs out.

Paquin spoke about how much playing Sookie Stackhouse has changed her life, “Because it has lasted seven years and because of the relationships, not just between us but the way they all evolved as a family, it’s been extraordinary to have that experience that is completely life-changing in all of the best possible ways — and with the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. We will always have this.”

Season 6 ended with our heroine Sookie in the arms of Alcide. However, Bill is clearly still in the picture and thinks that Sookie needs his protection from the hoards of infected Hep-V vampires. Of course, Alcide thinks that he can protect Sookie and doesn’t take kindly to Bill thinking otherwise. Sookie has already sworn off Bill, and she refuses her former lover’s help.

Joe Manganiello, who plays Alcide, spoke about the upcoming season, “The town is under attack, everyone has kind of retreated into Bon Temps and is hunkered down trying to defend themselves against these rabid, Hep-V vampires, so [Alcide] is now a part of the town.” He added, “There will be some sexiness going on at Gran’s house, and lots of blood and death and craziness — nobody stays happy for too long in Bon Temps.”

From the trailer, it looks like all the effort that both humans and vampires have attempted to make in the past six seasons trying to live in a peaceful world together, has been shattered. Now, with the hungry infected vampires aiming towards Bon Temps, a blood bath will surely follow.

  • ‘True Blood’ Season 7 Photos Online

The seventh season of the HBO vampire drama True Blood premieres on June 22, and new photos from the final season have been released online. A teaser trailer for season 7 was posted last month, which indicated that the storyline continues directly after the season six cliffhanger, which had hepatitis V-infected vampires descending upon the human residents of the fictional town of Bon Temps.

The new True Blood snapshots do little to describe what’s in store for the Golden Globe-winning series, though viking vampire Eric Northman, a popular character portrayed by Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, was noticeably absent from the latest promotional media. Northman was last seen burning up while lounging nude on a glacier in the season six finale, after a spell protecting his vampiric skin from UV radiation abruptly wore off. Though, True Blood executive producer Brian Buckner confirmed that Skarsgaard remains a regular cast member in the final season.

Nelsan Ellis as True Blood’s Lafayette Reynolds:

Anna Paquin as True Blood heroine-fairy Sookie Stackhouse:

True Blood is produced by Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, and is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris, detailing the dealings of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, Louisiana. The show has been a hit for HBO, and has received generally favorable reviews. Interestingly, the very adult-oriented series influenced a parody featured on Sesame Street in 2010 entitled True Mud:

The first episode of True Blood season 7 is titled Jesus Gonna Be Here, and was directed by star Stephen Moyer, who plays southern vampire Bill Compton. Commenting on the final season, Moyer said, “I’m really excited, really sad. It’s just a group of people that I absolutely love and it’s certainly the happiest and warmest set I’ve ever been on, so that’s going to be hard to walk away from.”

  • True Blood Star Lands Lead in New Amazon Pilot

Amazon Studios is whipping up a new drama pilot about a family-owned gun manufacturing business, and it’s set to star a True Blood alum.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Sam Trammell, who plays Sam Merlotte on HBO’s extremely popular vampire series, is set to star in the pilot for Cocked, which is being created by Samuel Baum of Lie to Me acclaim.

Here’s how THR summarizes the new role:

Trammell will star as Richard Paxson, the man who after years of torment from his brother and father, left the family business and has been trying to work his way up a marketing firm to no avail. He has an amazing immediate family that he has worked to keep separate from his extended one for years — until he is forced back into the family gun manufacturing business.

True Blood will premiere its seventh and final season on June 22nd.

Amazon has been quietly (at least in comparison to Netflix’s monster originals) stepping up its game in the original programming department. They recently greenlit a handful of drama pilots, including one from X-Files creator Chris Carter called The After. Earlier this month, two new pilots began filming–Hand of God, featuring Hellboy‘s Ron Perlman and a law-bending judge, and The Cosmopolitans, a dramedy starring Adam Brody and Chloë Sevigny.

Amazon also made a huge move to acquire third-party content this week, inking a deal with HBO to be the exclusive carrier (outside of HBO GO, of course) of classic shows like The Sopranos and The Wire, as well as later seasons of hits like Girls.

As for Trammell, he’s currently pushing to fund a movie via Kickstarter.

  • True Blood Prepares To Air Final Season This June, Debuts Trailer

True Blood Prepares To Air Final Season This June, Debuts Trailer

Several shows have been coming to an end in the past year, and True Blood is another show that will be added to the list. In order to get fans excited for the show’s final season, HBO has released its first promo.

Mad Men is also set to end this year, with its seventh season premiering in a couple weeks. After nine years on the year, How I Met Your Mother also came to an end this week, and its finale was received with mixed reactions by its many fans.

True Blood premiered the same season as AMC’s Mad Men, and will be ending with its seventh, and final season, with the beginning of the end set to premiere on June 22, 2014. HBO’s final season of True Blood will contain 10 episodes.

The series is a vampire drama, but has a much more widespread audience than shows such as The Vampire Diaries. The plot involves a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who encounters a strange new supernatural world when she meets the mysterious Bill, a southern Louisiana gentleman and vampire.

In addition to the final season of True Blood premiering on June 22, the network announced that will be airing the series premiere of The Leftovers on June 15th, a show that is based on a book by Tom Perrotta. The show is being developed by Damon Lindelof, who many will remember as one of the producers of Lost, and features an ensemble cast that includes Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler.

The first promotional video that has been released for the series opens with a trip through the Bon Temps graveyard, showing numerous headstones, and reminding fans of all of the different people that have died throughout the show.

The sequence ends on a headstone that reads “True Blood, 2008-2014,” in a moment that could trigger some emotion from fans. The series stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, and features an ensemble cast that has helped Alexander Skarsgård become a star in recent years.

Speaking on the final season of the show, Stephen Moyer said last year that “I’m really excited, really sad. It’s just a group of people that I absolutely love and it’s certainly the happiest and warmest set I’ve ever been on, so that’s going to be hard to walk away from.”

Tune into HBO on June 22 at 9 p.m. ET for the first of the final 10 episodes of HBO’s True Blood. Are fans excited for the show to return, or is everyone simply sad that it is almost over?

  • Alexander Skarsgard Poses Nude in Antarctica

With the polar vortex recently hitting the US, much talk has surrounded the insanely cold temperatures and its effects. Unfortunately for the male gender, the extra cold weather has one devastating effect, leading many men to stay clothed during these winter months in order to preserve their manhood. That is, unless you’re Scandinavian.

Recently, Alexander Skarsgard, a star actor in HBO’s True Blood, posed nude in the subzero temperatures of the Antarctic. And not only was Skarsgard naked, but he was also sitting on a toilet, reading literature of some sort. (Why Skarsgard would be taking a dump at -30 degrees Celsius / -22 degrees Fahrenheit is anybody’s guess.)

The Swedish actor found himself in Antarctica after agreeing to be part of the “Walking with the Wounded” campaign, originally promoted as a 335 km (208 miles) race amongst three teams, comprised of wounded veterans, across the rugged terrain of the South Pole. The three teams represented veterans from the UK, US, and the Commonwealth (Canada and Australia), who competed alongside special celebrity guests. Skarsgard was competing along with Team US. Unfortunately, the “race” aspect of the competition was canceled due to inclement weather.

    (image)

Fortunately for fan girls and guys everywhere, this is not the first time Skarsgard has displayed his naked body for the rest of the world to see. In last season’s True Blood finale, Skarsgard was filmed lounging nude in the Swedish winter-wonderland. Apparently, the decision was his and not the director’s: “It was never written to have him full frontal. Alex doesn’t like wearing his ‘sock’ or the ‘sack of destiny’ as we call it. It’s the sack of destiny that covers everything. He doesn’t like wearing those, so he had one in his room that day, (but) he was the one who chose not to wear it,” stated co-star Stephen Moyer.

    (image)

Speaking on the subject of whether or whether not to sock his junk, Skarsgard told Rolling Stone, “I don’t want a sock around it, that feels ridiculous. If we’re naked in the scene, then I’m naked. I’ve always been that way.”

In an interview with Conan O’Brien last year, Skarsgard revealed that he is definitely no stranger to nudity, stating, “I think, in general, people are slightly more comfortable with nudity in Sweden. I also come from a family — my dad and especially his side of the family are old hippies and bohemians. I think I was 14 the first time I saw my dad wearing pants. He was always naked.” Skarsgard would add that, “When he wasn’t at the theater, he’d be at home cooking or just chilling with no clothes on. That’s the way I was raised. It wasn’t until me and my brother started bringing girls over — then we felt a little uncomfortable about it.”

It’s a good thing Skarsgard is comfortable with being nude considering some of the criticism he has received concerning the size of his package:

Considering both scenes were shot in the snow, we’ll give Skarsgard the benefit of doubt and say #Shrinkage.

  • Anna Paquin Axed from ‘X-Men’ Film

Anna Paquin has been cut from the upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Known for her role as Marie–and her alter-ego Rogue–Paquin was featured in just one sequence in the not-yet-released film. When editing took place, however, that sequence had to be cut. Director Bryan Singer spoke recently about the decision.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go,” he said. “Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

This is certainly disappointing to fans of Anna Paquin and her character–and likely to the actor herself. X-Men: Days of Future Past also stars Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen. It will hit theaters some time in 2014.

Anna Paquin is also known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series True Blood. She won a Golden Globe for the role back in 2009.

Is X-Men: Days of Future Past on your list of must-see films for 2014? Are you disappointed to learn that Anna Paquin won’t grace the big screen in her reprised role?

  • The Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood-Live!

The hills are alive with the sound of music! That’s right, those famous 9 words are coming back to life for a very special, very live production of the hit musical, The Sound of Music Live!, featuring country superstar, Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp.

This new version of the musical phenomenon will be retelling the heartfelt story again, but for a whole new generation. And to make things even more exciting (if that was even possible) the three-hour event will be broadcasted live on NBC tonight at 8pm/7c.

Staring alongside Underwood is True Blood hunk, Stephen Moyer. Moyer will be playing the role of Captain von Trapp.

“Carrie’s great,” said Moyer about his co-star. “She obviously sings beautifully, we know that. But she’s doing a great job of bringing this character to life.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8uXO2n4j4Y

All of the people of the production come from various talent backgrounds, from Broadway vets to television series stars .

“We’re all kind of brining our own game,” said Underwood about the cast.

How will this new, live adaptation hold up to the original story? Well it seems the cast isn’t trying to copy what Julie Andrews and the rest of the von Trapp gang did prior. The production is merely an adaption, a homage paid to the story of love and music that filled the hearts of generations before.

“This is a televised version of the stage production, said Laura Benanti. Benanti will be playing the role of Elsa Schraeder. “We’re not trying to remake the movie. Nobody can remake the movie.”

Benanti captured the essence of this production perfectly saying, “This is gong to be really special. The Sound of Music for a new generation.”

Get a sneak peek of the cast while they’re in action, here.

  • Carrie Underwood Receives Support From Julie Andrews

Sure, you know and love the 1965 Hollywood movie musical classic, The Sound of Music, starring the legendary Julie Andrews. But now you get a chance to see the musical as it was meant to be, in its stage form, right from the comfort of your own couch.

On December 5th, NBC will air the full-scale, blowout, elaborate Broadway inspired The Sound of Music Live! starring American Idol champion and country music superstar Carrie Underwood as Maria. The Tony winning, Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, implies just as the name suggests. It will come to you live, just like it would be if you were sitting at the Gershwin Theater on Broadway.

Carrie Underwood has very little acting experience. However, after the tremendous pressure of having to perform for her life on American Idol every week and almost ten years of touring and selling out arenas, she seems more than seasoned for the role. However, not everyone agrees with that sentiment. She told Entertainment Weekly that she was getting hate tweets from Julie Andrews fans on Twitter.

But guess who had her back? Julie Andrews herself supported Underwood and spoke about the difficulty of having to perform the musical live. “Fifty years later, it’s time somebody had another crack at it. I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it’s great that it’s being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting for Carrie.”

If you’re a fan of the HBO vampire drama True Blood, you will also want to check out the program. Stephen Moyer, aka Vampire Bill, will play Captain George Von Trapp. And if you’re worried that Moyer won’t live up to Christopher Plummer’s Von Trapp, you shouldn’t be. The British actor has seen his fair share of the stage. He performed in over three dozen musicals before falling in love with Sookie Stackhouse in Bon Temps.

‘True Blood’ Season 7 Will Be The Last One

HBO’s popular vampire show True Blood is coming to an end. According to multiple reports, the show will end its run in 2014, with Season 7 being the last.

The news was reportedly announced by HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo. HBO Watch shares what appears to be an official press release from HBO on the show’s end. Here are some quotes from that:

“TRUE BLOOD has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” noted Lombardo. “Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”

“From the moment I read Charlaine’s books, I thought there was potential for something really special,” says Alan Ball. “Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations. I’m deeply grateful to HBO for being true partners and collaborators, and, of course, to the viewers who chose to spend Sunday nights in Bon Temps with us.”

“I feel enormously proud to have been a part of the TRUE BLOOD family since the very beginning,” says Brian Buckner. “I guarantee that there’s not a more talented or harder-working cast and crew out there, and I’d like to extend a personal heartfelt thanks to them for their dedication and tenacity over the years, especially this past year, as I stepped into a larger role. Thank you also to HBO for their unwavering support and of course to Alan Ball, whose genius enabled all of us to share in this incredible journey. Finally, a huge thank you to the most passionate fans in television. As we take a final walk through Bon Temps together, we will do our very best to bring Sookie’s story to a close with heart, imagination and, of course, fun.”

The sixth season of the show wrapped up in August, and the seventh and final season is due out next summer. The number of episodes remains to be seen.

  • Josh Brolin Or Ryan Gosling Could Be The Next Batman

Comic-Con recently made millions of nerd dreams come true as it was revealed that Batman and Superman will team up on the big screen in 2015. While Brit heartthrob Henry Cavill is already set to play the man of steel, it is still up in the air who will take on the role of Batman.

Casting the caped crusader is a big deal, especially when it sets the chosen actor up for a possible career-defining role, or at least one that will bring them millions of dollars. So who is being considered to take their place on the Batman Mouth Rushmore alongside Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Christian Bale?

Early reports are far from definite, but four possibilities are sure to create excitement among fans of the superhero, or movies in general. Josh Brolin is one such name on the list, which also includes indie darling and general good looking guy Ryan Gosling.

Gosling, who is one of the youngest candidates, has the acting chops to pull of the role, but those behind the scenes want a Batman around 40 while Gosling is only 32. The new Batman is also meant to be a more mature, rugged character, not that Gosling couldn’t pull that look off.

Other actors rumored to be on the list are True Blood Adonis Joe Manganiello, who “Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder considered for the role of Superman, and Richard Armitage, who was most recently seen on the silver screen protecting Bilbo Baggins in the role of Thorin in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”.

Whoever is chosen to take the reins of Wayne Manor will see their star take a meteoric rise, even if they are someone the caliber of Brolin or Gosling. For those like Manganiello and Armitage, it could take them to the next level. We’ll see who is handed the keys to the Batmobile in the coming months as more details about the casting move surface.

  • “True Blood” Season 6: Will Sookie Become a Vampire?

Ultimatums in relationships are never ideal, but I don’t believe anyone has received one quite like Sookie Stackhouse did on Sunday’s episode of True Blood: become vampire or your vampire friends will die.

Season six has found another vampire being in love with Sookie. This time, he’s Warlow, a half-vampire/half-fairy, which apparently still makes his blood as tasty to vampires as Sookie’s. She too seems to have feelings for him, but Warlow was promised Sookie as a lifetime partner. The vampire/fairy hybrid has been in love with her and patiently waiting for her for around 6,000 years. Isn’t that just romantic?

This season, all the vampires (minus Bill) have been captured and are awaiting possible persecution at Vamp Camp. Until then, they’re being tested in different ways to let the Louisiana Vampire Task Force (LAVTF) understand them well enough to defeat them and end the vampire race.

Since drinking Lillith’s blood, Bill has been having visions, and now he sees the lot of main vampires meeting the sun, the “true death.” After understanding and experiencing what fairy blood can do for vampires, Bill asks Sookie to bring Warlow to him so the vampires may drink his fairy blood, and not meet the “true death.”

Because Sookie wants to save her friends, she goes to Warlow, and as much as he hates Bill, he agrees to do it, only if Sookie will let him turn her into a vampire and spend eternity with him. What’s a girl to do? Become a vampire and save her friends, or stay human and let her friends die?

Grieving since his sister Nora’s death, Eric is determined to save the vampires from Vamp Camp himself because he doesn’t trust Bill. He hopes to find Warlow, but instead, finds Adilyn, Andy Bellefleur’s fairy daughter, and drinks some of her blood.

For those who are fans of Alcide, he’s back to being a nice guy. Returning Nicole, Sam’s new lady love, and her mother to Sam.

And speaking of Nicole, apparently she’s pregnant with Sam’s baby. She doesn’t even know herself, but both Sam and Alcide could smell Sam’s scent on her.

After being put into the general vampire population by Sarah Newlin, Jason has found himself belonging to a very assertive vampire, Violet.

Sarah has gone crazier than imagined, killing the woman who runs the True Blood company after she inadvertently finds out about Hep V in the True Blood.

The episode ends with Sookie taking Bill to Warlow, but when they arrive, they see that someone has already gotten to him. He is drained of so much blood and Sookie wonders aloud who did it. Bill responds with, “Eric.”

  • YouTube Trends Map Reveals That You All Really Like True Blood

YouTube popularity is an incredibly fickle thing. A video can be incredibly popular for a day, and then be buried into obscurity the next. To further help chart this ebb and flow, YouTube has launched a new trend measurement tool.

YouTube announced today that it has completed work on a Trends Map. As the name suggests, the map tracks video popularity by gender, age, geographic location and by the number of views or shares. Such a tool sounds incredibly interesting, but looking into it makes you realize that almost everybody is watching the same videos.

Looking at both genders among all ages, the video with the most amount of shares is the True Blood season 6 trailer:

The above trailer dominates shares among pretty much every demographic except for the 13-17 age range. Even then, only males are turning their gaze towards the following clip from Family Guy:

Moving over to views tells a different story altogether. By far, the most popular video across the country at the moment is the aftermath of a water polo match that went viral over the weekend:

Once again, gender has played a role in popularity as women are drawn more to the following video from a child abuse prevention group and its new ad:

The YouTube Trends Map is pretty fascinating, and it could be a useful tool for those looking to jump on board the next viral hit before it really takes off.

YouTube notes that the Trends Map is currently only available in the U.S., but it sounds like it will be adding support for other countries in the future.
