  • Amazon Prime Is Only $67 Today, Just a Friendly Reminder

Amazon Prime Is Only $67 Today, Just a Friendly Reminder

Just a friendly reminder – Amazon Prime, a subscription service that usually costs $99 a year, is just $67 a year if you sign up today.

If you’ve been on the fence about getting a subscription – today’s probably the day to do it. This is likely the cheapest it’s going to be (until Transparent wins another award, I guess).

The reason for Amazon’s nearly one-third reduction in price is its hit original series Transparent, which took home a handful of Emmys last Sunday.

It was the 67th annual Emmys, hence the $67 promotional price.

If this sort of promotion sounds familiar, that’s because Amazon did this earlier this year. When Transparent won big at the 72nd annual Golden Globes, Amazon slashed the price of Prime to $72 for one day.

If you want to catch the promotional deal, you’ll need to sign up for Prime between 12:00 am ET and 11:59 pm PT on Friday, September 25th. You can do that here.

“This has been an incredibly exciting year—with the Golden Globes wins in January and now twelve nominations and five Primetime Emmy wins. We are thrilled to celebrate Transparent with our customers by offering a Prime discount,” said Michael Paull, Vice President of Digital Video for Amazon. “Congratulations again to Jill Soloway, Jeffrey Tambor and the cast and crew of Transparent for making such a beautiful show, and to our customers—enjoy!”

Should you get Amazon Prime? I don’t know, this isn’t an ad. This is just a friendly reminder that it’s pretty cheap today. In fact, it’s even cheaper than it was before Amazon hiked the price up a couple years ago.

  • January Jones, Will Forte Call It Quits: Why Doesn’t It Work With ‘SNL’ Alum?

January Jones and Will Forte have reportedly called it quits, after dating for about five months. What is it about January Jones and SNL alumni? The Mad Men star previously dated Jason Sudeikis, too, and that went south as well.

January Jones and Will Forte met on the set of The Last Man on Earth, and things heated up quickly. The two officially split in August.

Fortunately all went smoothly for Will Forte and January Jones when they both attended the 2015 Emmys on Sunday. Jones hung out with her Mad Men costars for the evening. Forte was nominated for his Last Man on Earth role. He lost out to Jeffrey Tambor for his Transparent role.

Rumor has it that January Jones wasn’t interested in a serious long term relationship–hence her split from Will Forte. She recently told her friends that, “Relationships are a pain in the ass.”

January Jones is the mother of four-year-old son Xander, so there’s always that component of her life as well. It’s hard to commit to a relationship when a child is involved unless everything is in perfect alignment–and that doesn’t happen all too often.

In addition to Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis, January Jones has previously dated director Noah Miller and Mila Kunis’s husband Ashton Kutcher.

Are you surprised to learn that Jones and Forte are no longer a couple? Do you expect she might one day date yet another SNL alum?

You Can Get Amazon Prime For Just $67 This Friday

Amazon had a pretty good night at the 67th Emmys on Sunday, taking home a handful of statues for its hit original series Transparent.

And in recognition of that, the company is slashing the price of an Amazon Prime subscription by a third.

On Friday, September 25th, you can lock in a year of Amazon Prime for just $67 – $32 cheaper than the normal rate of $99.

If this sort of promotion sounds familiar, that’s because Amazon did this earlier this year. When Transparent won big at the 72nd annual Golden Globes, Amazon slashed the price of Prime to $72 for one day.

If you want to catch the promotional deal, you’ll need to sign up for Prime between 12:00 am ET and 11:59 pm PT on Friday. You can do that here.

“This has been an incredibly exciting year—with the Golden Globes wins in January and now twelve nominations and five Primetime Emmy wins. If you’ve been thinking about getting Amazon Prime but have been hesitant to pull the trigger, this is the time to do it. It’s not going to get any cheaper than this.

  • Jill Soloway: ‘We Have a Trans Civil Rights Problem’

Jill Soloway won her first Emmy on Sunday, for Outstanding Directing on a Comedy Series for the hit Amazon original show Transparent. And she used her acceptance speech to call for action on transgender rights.

“We don’t have a trans tipping point yet,” she said. “We have a trans civil rights problem, so go to transequality.org and vote to pass the trans equality bill. Thank you,” said Soloway.

The bill, which was introduced this summer, would explicitly prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation in employment, housing, education, credit, public accommodations, jury service, and federally funded programs.

    Watch Soloway’s speech below:

It was a big night for Transparent as Jeffrey Tambor took the Best Lead Actor Emmy for his work on the series.

Transparent‘s second season will land on Amazon Prime Video in December. It’s been a big success for Amazon – both critically and in terms of popularity. The studio has already greenlit a third season – months before the second season even premieres.

  • ‘Transparent’ Season Three Is Already a Go

Amazon has announced that it has greenlit a third season of its award-winning original series Transparent – and the second season hasn’t even premiered yet.

The third season will begin filming next week. The show’s creator, Jill Soloway, will stay on as showrunner.

“Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent,” said Roy Price, Vice President, Amazon Studios. “The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family.”

Transparent is a half hour novelistic series that explores family, identity, sex, and love. The series stars Tambor as Maura, who has spent her life as Mort—the Pfefferman family patriarch. When she reintroduces herself to her family, everyone else’s secrets finally start to come out. This includes her ex-wife Shelly (played by Light), and their children—meandering Ali (played by Hoffmann), record producer Josh (played by Duplass), and sexually conflicted Sarah (played by Landecker). Each family member spins in a different direction as they figure out who they won’t become.

You can watch the first season right now if you’re an Amazon Prime members. The second season debuts in the fall.

Earlier this year, at the Golden Globes, Transparent gave Amazon its first ever wins at a major award show. The series won best TV series comedy or musical, and its star Jeffrey Tambor won best actor in a TV comedy as well.

“We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved in the making of Transparent—the team took a risk and it paid off,” said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. “Big kudos and congrats to Jill, Jeffrey, and all the cast and crew.”

You have from Saturday at 12:01 am EST to 11:59 pm PST to stream all ten episodes of the first season.

Amazon is also slashing the price of a year-long Amazon Prime membership this weekend – $72 in honor of the 72nd annual Golden Globes.

  • Transparent Wins a Golden Globe, Amazon’s First Major Award

Over the past couple years, Netflix has consistently netted award show nominations (and some wins) for its original content like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. And though the Emmys, Golden Globes, and the like have smiled upon Netflix – they hadn’t yet shown any love for Amazon and its original Prime Instant Video offerings.

    Until Sunday night.

The Amazon original Transparent had a huge night. Not only did the series win best TV series comedy or musical, but its star Jeffrey Tambor won best actor in a TV comedy as well.

Sunday marked the first time Amazon was nominated for a major award. It beat out Netflix in the best TV series comedy category (Orange Is The New Black).

The show, a half-hour “novelistic” series that explores the lives of a family and its transgender patriarch, saw “record-breaking” viewing, according to Amazon. A second season was ordered almost immediately after the first one premiered to both critical and user acclaim.

  • Golden Globe Nominations See Netflix and Amazon Battling It Out for the First Time

Golden Globe Nominations See Netflix and Amazon Battling It Out for the First Time

The nominations for the Golden Globe Awards – where lovers of the big and the small screen alike can see their favorite stars/productions honored – are here. In an early morning ceremony, Kate Beckinsale, Peter Krause, Paula Patton, and Jeremy Piven announced who will vie for the coveted statutes next month.

As has been the case with other award shows over the past couple of years, Netflix is making a push for press accolades. And for the first time, Amazon is getting in on the fun.

House of Cards was nominated for three awards, including Best Television Series (Drama). Robin Wright was nominated in the Best Lead Actress category for her role as Claire Underwood. As expected, Kevin Spacey was also nominated in the Lead Actor category.

Orange Is The New Black was also invited to the party, nabbing a few nominations. Taylor Schilling was given the nod in the Best Lead Actress (Comedy of Musical) category, and Uzo Aduba was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Crazy Eyes on the popular Netflix original.

But what’s really interesting is the Best Television Series (Comedy of Musical) category where, for the first time, Netflix and Amazon are going up against one another for a Golden Globe. In the red corner, Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black. And in the other corner, Amazon Studios’ Transparent.

Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor was also nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series (Comedy or Musical).

The Hollywood Foreign Press has given Amazon some ammo here in its fight for legitimacy. Tune in on January 11, 2015, to see if the studio can take one home.

  • Transparent Season Two Gets the Go-ahead As Amazon Touts Record Viewing

Have you watched Amazon’s newest original series Transparent? According to Amazon, a lot of people have.

The show, a half-hour “novelistic” series that explores the lives of a family and its transgender patriarch (played by Jeffrey Tambor), debuted last week and since then, it’s been the number one series on all of Amazon Prime Instant Video. Amazon says it’s “record breaking”. The company also touts its addictiveness, calling it the “most binged show” on Prime.

Amazon is so high on the show’s performance, in fact, that its already greenlit season two. It’ll hit Prime Instant Video next year.

“We are absolutely thrilled that the response to Transparent has been so positive,” said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios. “Our goal is to create series that customers love, so it’s great to hear that Transparent has not only risen to the no. 1 series on Prime Instant Video, but that it’s deemed ‘binge worthy’ as well. Given all this great feedback, it only makes sense to bring the Pfeffermans back next year in season two.”

if you haven’t heard of the show, here’s a synopsis to catch you up to speed:

The series stars Tambor as Maura, who has spent her life as Mort—the Pfefferman family patriarch. When she reintroduces herself to her family, everyone’s secrets finally start to come out. This includes her ex-wife Shelly (played by Light), and their children—meandering Ali (played by Hoffmann), record producer Josh (played by Duplass), and sexually conflicted Sarah (played by Landecker). Each family member spins in a different direction as they begin to figure out who they are going to become.

Amazon’s not bullshitting when they talk about the show’s critical popularity. It currently holds a 91% Metacritic aggregate and a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. And if the company is to be believed, that critical acclaim is helping boost a much more important metric – viewership.

Amazon is trying to match Netflix’s success in the streaming platform-turned-original content provider game, and it may have just found its first hit. What do you think? Does Transparent live up to the hype?

  • Transparent, Amazon’s New Series, Is Now Available

Amazon’s newest original series – one that’s been receiving a good amount of buzz – has landed on Amazon Prime Instant Video for your streaming pleasure.

Transparent, starring Jeffrey Tambor, is a half-hour “novelistic” series that explores the lives of a family and its transgender patriarch. It’s written, directed, and produced by Jill Soloway (Six Feet Under, Afternoon Delight).

“I could not be more excited to share Transparent with the world today,” said Soloway. “In many ways, the Pfefferman’s story is one I’ve wanted to tell for many years and I’m so grateful to Amazon and my incredibly talented cast and crew for allowing me to fulfill this creative dream.”

    Amazon describes it as such:

The series stars Tambor as Maura, who has spent her life as Mort—the Pfefferman family patriarch. When she reintroduces herself to her family, everyone’s secrets finally start to come out. This includes her ex-wife Shelly (played by Light), and their children—meandering Ali (played by Hoffmann), record producer Josh (played by Duplass), and sexually conflicted Sarah (played by Landecker). Each family member spins in a different direction as they begin to figure out who they are going to become.

Alongside Mozart in the Jungle and The Outlaws, Transparent was one of three comedy pilots greenlit last October. The series has opened to glowing reviews. The Washington Post calls it “the best streaming-network pilot since Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black.”

    The Philadelphia Daily News says,

Transparent is either the best new series most people are unlikely to see or the best excuse Amazon can give you for signing up for a month’s free trial.”

And that’s surely music to Amazon’s ears. Kind of. Amazon Studios has been pumping out pilots and a handful of full series for a couple of years now, trying to establish itself as an original content destination like Netflix – but has yet to achieve the overall success of a show like Orange Is the New Black or House of Cards. For Amazon, it’s great to have a series that could possibly be its flagship, but that whole “most people are unlikely to see” bit reveals a truth to Amazon’s original series.

All 10 episodes are available right now on Amazon Prime Instant Video.

  • Amazon’s ‘Transparent’ Lands September 26th

    Amazon’s ‘Transparent’ Lands September 26th

Amazon’s next original series, Transparent, will premiere on September 26th.

Part of a trio of comedy pilots greenlit last October (alongside Mozart in the Jungle and The Outlaws), Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor as the transgender patriarch of a family filled with secrets.

“The series stars Tambor as Maura, who has spent her life as Mort—the Pfefferman family patriarch. When she reintroduces herself to her family, everyone’s secrets finally start to come out. This includes her ex-wife Shelly, and their children—meandering Ali, record producer Josh, and sexually conflicted Sarah. Each family member spins in a different direction as they begin to figure out who they are going to become,” says Amazon.

The dark comedy comes to you from Jill Soloway (Afternoon Delight, Six Feet Under), who wrote, directed, and produced.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to offer our customers all episodes of Transparent in late September,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “Jill has an amazing ability to create deep, engaging and rich stories and characters. We think customers will enjoy this fresh, humorous, and touching series.”

Of course, you can watch the pilot right now if you’re a Prime member. All ten episodes of the first season will land on the 26th of next month.
