  • “2 Broke Girls” Gets Harsh Parody Trailer (NSFW)

Chances are you’ve either seen or have heard of the CBS comedy “2 Broke Girls”. Basically it’s the story of two friends who are trying to make enough money to realize their dreams. Below is the official synopsis of the show:

2 BROKE GIRLS is a comedy about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business – if only they can raise the cash. Sassy, streetwise Max Black works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline Channing is an uptown trust fund princess who’s having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max’s knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but first they need to raise the start-up money. While they save their tips, they’ll stay at the restaurant, working with Oleg, an overly flirtatious Russian cook; Earl, a 75-year-old kool-kat cashier; and Han Lee, the new, eager-to-please owner of the diner. Working together, these two broke girls living in one expensive city might just find the perfect recipe for their big break.

The show has caught flak for sometime now due to a variety of things, ranging from stereotypes to offensive jokes. With this in mind a parody trailer has been created, and it goes after the show, and its creator hard.

It begins with, “Are you really fucking stupid?” and just goes from there. It brings to light what type of television audience this show goes after and doesn’t pull any punches. Check it out for yourself below:

What did you think of the parody trailer? Do you have any problems with “2 Broke Girls”?

  • Chernobyl Diaries Trailer and Poster Released

Warner Brothers has released the full trailer for their new upcoming horror movie Chernobyl Diaries. The film was written and produced by Oren Peli, who was the mind behind the Paranormal Activity franchise. If you’re unfamiliar with the film, below is the official synopsis:

“Chernobyl Diaries” is an original story from Oren Peli, who first terrified audiences with his groundbreaking thriller, “Paranormal Activity.” The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…

  • Dark Shadows: Depp Plays Vampire In New Tim Burton Gothic Comedy

Well the wait is finally over as the first official trailer and poster for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows has been released. Johnny Depp plays a vampire by the name of Barnabus and stars opposite Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, and Michelle Pfeifer.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dark Shadows it was originally a gothic soap opera that aired weekdays on ABC from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. We’re sure that Burton has a ton of updated ideas for his film, while playing homage to the television show. Below is the official synopsis for the film:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet–or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

  • Mass Effect 3 Launch Trailer Is The Best One Yet

Launch day for one of the most-anticipated games of 2012 is approaching, as BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 will hit the shelves on March 6th in North America.

And if gamers weren’t excited enough for the game, now we have a brand new launch trailer to make us wish it was Tuesday already.

The new trailer features new footage, and is probably the best trailer to come out of their camp yet. It definitely beats the live-action TV trailer that debuted earlier this week.

Without further ado, check it out below:

Not everyone will survive. An ancient alien race, known only as “Reapers”, has launched an all-out invasion leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in their wake. Earth has been taken, the galaxy is on the verge of total annihilation, and you are the only one who can stop them. The price of failure is extinction.

Is this launch trailer as overdramatic as that promotional copy? You bet. Is is a bit overwrought? Probably. Do we care? Absolutely not.

Like I said before, the game is releasing on Tuesday, March 6th. Gamestop is holding thousands of midnight release parties, where fans will be able to interact with the dev team via global stream.

Did you catch the promotional Twitter hashtag flashed at the end of the trailer? #TakeEarthBack has folks excited:

  • Fan Trailer for John Carter Outdoes Disney’s Official Work

Fan Trailer for John Carter Outdoes Disney’s Official Work

As many of you know, WebProNews is a big supporter of user-generated content, especially when it takes an established property and makes it better. In fact, the user-generated era is producing some incredible content, as the tools of the Internet makes hosting and distribution so much easier than they’ve ever been before.

With that in mind, consider Disney’s troubles marketing their upcoming John Carter flick, which is based off of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ A Princess of Mars masterpiece. The problem is, if you listen to the word on the street is Disney hasn’t created very much buzz for the upcoming “blockbuster,” offering the public bland, generic John Carter trailers that fail to spark the imagination, as well as the desire to consume.

Well, thanks to a YouTube collective called “JohnCarterFiles,” we now have a much better example of how Disney should’ve approached this movie:

    Now compare that to Disney’s:

Apparently Disney thought that focusing on the action sequences was enough to entice the crowds, and considering America’s attraction to anything that’s shiny and tech-friendly, that’s understandable. Sometimes, however, luring them in with a good story still works. Or, as ToplessRobot.com puts it:

…all the trailers have gone from introducing the character and his journey and the alien cultures of Mars have to showing nothing but action scenes that make the movie look like some kind of combination Avatar and Attack of the Clones, which is not a compliment.

I think John Carter is going to be pretty good, if not great — I have a lot of trust in director Andrew Stanton — but Disney has just marketed this thing into the ground, and now no one seems interested. They need to do something else… like release this awesome fan-assembled trailer, which uses nothing but previously released footage, but put together in a way that makes the film more unique, more powerful and a lot more interesting.

What do you think? Does the fan trailer do a better job of capturing the mood of the story better than Disney’s? If so, why hasn’t Disney hired these guys to head up future marketing efforts?

  • Today Is Resident Evil Friday, Apparently

Today Is Resident Evil Friday, Apparently

While SOPA and PIPA, or the apparent defeat thereof, is dominating the current newscycle, someone forgot to tell us about the fact this weekend belongs to a property no one would’ve initially guessed.

No, I’m not talking about the NFL with its Conference Championships; I’ve got a the 49ers and the Patriots for those of you who are wondering. In fact, with the release of not one, but two trailers — granted, one’s for the video game and one’s for the movie — apparently today, Friday, January 20th, belongs to the Resident Evil franchise.

The question is, which one is the winner? Are people more excited about the yet another video game sequel or yet another movie sequel? Considering the smash-hit success of the video game franchise and the lukewarm reception the Resident Evil movies have received, the nod goes to the sixth installment of the video game, and not the fifth installment of the movie series, Milla Jovovich or not.

Confused yet? Good, let’s watch some trailers. First, the trailer for the movie, Resident Evil: Retribution:

Is the movie sport the “Retribution” tagline to let Resident Evil fans know this time, things will be different? Doubtful, but one can only hope.

And now, the long-awaited video game sequel, complete with Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Ashley. If you played the incredible Resident Evil 4, you are very familiar with keeping Ashley safe. This time, however, it looks like Ashley will take part in the zombie ass-kicking, which should those of you who can’t stand escort missions.

Ashley also looks a little older, so maybe she’ll get her wish of hooking up with Leon.

All things considered, after watching both of those trailers, I’d much rather see a Resident Evil movie done by the same guys who designed the game’s cutscene segments than another ho-hum, “hey, isn’t my wife, Milla hot?” entry from Paul W.S. Anderson.

  • The Hobbit Trailer Hits the Webs

Peter Jackson is in the process of creating his revisitation to Middle Earth movies, in this case, a two-part movie concerning the telling of The Hobbit. To generate the appropriate buzz, even though the movie doesn’t hit the big screen until next December, the obvious move is to release a well-cut trailer that captures the imagination of Tolkien fans everywhere, while giving them a glimpse of what’s to come.

And so, we have the new Hobbit trailer. As indicated, the movie will be broken into two parts, and the first installment uses the “An Unexpected Journey” as its tagline, pretty much guaranteeing the movie will focus on the first half of the much-loved book. For those who haven’t seen it yet, but are wondering if Jackson would keep some of the Tolkien themes that are present in the book, yes, there is singing:

Since it was posted on December 20th — the YouTube version was apparently first revealed at the movie’s Facebook page — the video has already garnered over 1.1 million views, if that gives you any indication about the anticipation concerning Peter Jackson’s return trip to Middle Earth. For those completely in the dark about Hobbits and J.R.R. Tolkien, the YouTube page features the following description:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths ofguile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The thing about prequels is, the cast of the original films have gotten older. To address this, Jackson cast new actors to play Bilbo Baggins, but Gandalf is still being played by Ian McKellen, but in The Hobbit, he’s appearing as Gandalf the Grey, allowing him to have an older, more haggard appearance as opposed to his turn as Gandalf the White in the final two Lord of the Rings movies.

As for the reaction, if Twitter is anything to go by, the thumbs are up:

Also, I didn’t want to care about The Hobbit and then the trailer had to go and be all awesome, sigh. 1 hour ago via web · powered by @socialditto

  • Avengers Trailer Breaks iTunes Record

Besides generating a great deal of feedback, Marvel Studios released a press release saying their new trailer for next summer’s The Avengers broke records for being the most downloaded trailer ever at iTunes.

The aforementioned feedback was loud and clear on many movie-following websites, including Ain’t It Cool News, SlashFilm, Fark, Super Hero Hype and Reddit, to name a few. Each of these sites had tons of comments as fans and skeptics alike proceeded to dissect every frame of the 2:00 minute offering.

While that shouldn’t come as a surprise, perhaps the iTunes record breaking numbers might, especially when you consider just how many trailers come out on weekly basis, coupled with the suspect taste in movies the many members of the masses possess. I honestly figured a Twilight movie would hold that distinction. I’m happy to be disappointed. In setting the record, the trailer for The Avengers was downloaded over 10 million times in the first 24 hours it was posted on iTunes, according to Marvel’s press release.

The positive word of mouth reaction more than likely played a part in the trailer’s consumption, although, Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise has been incredibly well received, and neither one of those movies topped the numbers for The Avengers trailer. Speaking of, here it is in case you were on of the few to miss out on it:

As for Marvel’s press release, the text follows, just in case you’re interested in that, too:

BURBANK, Calif.–(EON: Enhanced Online News)–Marvel Studios announced today that the trailer for next summer’s most highly anticipated movie, “Marvel’s The Avengers,” has been downloaded over 10 million times in its first 24 hours on iTunes Movie Trailers (http://www.apple.com/trailers), shattering the most-viewed trailer record in the site’s history.

The trailer, which debuted Tuesday, October 11, exclusively on iTunes Movie Trailers, gives fans a sneak peak at “Marvel’s The Avengers”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime—based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.

Does that mean we can expect The Avengers to break Avatar’s box office records or is James Cameron forever be king of the world, at least in relation to being the box office champion? By the way, do you what movie would actually be number one once ticket prices are adjusted for inflation? Gone With the Wind.

Do with that knowledge what you will.

  • Nexus Prime Release Teased With Unpacked Trailer?

Although it seems like the world will be wrapped up in Apple-land and iPhone 4S / 5 drama for the foreseeable future (and let’s face it, it probably will be), there is another big event on the horizon.

Samsung’s mobile event “Unpacked” is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 11th in San Diego. Invitations went out last week touting that this was the “Google Episode,” and saying that the event would give interested parties a “look at what’s new from Android.”

This has many speculating that the next Google smartphone, the Nexus Prime, is set to be unveiled at the event. The rumored device is said to come with a dual core processor, a huge 4.5 inch screen and 4G LTE.

The other big unveiling that might happen at this event – Ice Cream Sandwich, Android’s new OS. Ice Cream Sandwich will unify Android Gingerbread OS and Honeycomb OS, the mobile and tablet OS’ respectively. Many hope that that Nexus Prime will be announced as the first device running Ice Cream Sandwich.

On Tuesday, just hours after the Apple iPhone 4S event, this teaser trailer for the Unpacked event hit the interwebs –

Could the “something big” be the long-rumored Nexus Prime? Possibly a new tablet? Whatever it is, it definitely looks curved – way curved.

The YouTube comments show a pretty excited user base, most saying that this is most definitely the Nexus Prime. One commenter takes the opportunity to poke fun at yesterday’s Apple event and the 4S:

They were originally going to go with ‘Something INCREMENTAL is coming!’ but decided that would be moronic because why would anyone hype up some small incremental change?

In all seriousness, this event could be big for all involved – as Apple has just put all their cards on the table. With some disappointed with Apple for not unveiling an iPhone 5, could this be perfect timing for a giant Android event? We’ll just have to wait and see what they announce next Tuesday.

  • Dead Island Movie, Based on Awesome Trailer, Gets the Green Light

Dead Island Movie, Based on Awesome Trailer, Gets the Green Light

Remember that breathtaking reverse-action trailer for the zombie survival game Dead Island? It looks like it’s going to be the basis for an upcoming film from Lionsgate studios.

The films was discussed back in February when the now-famous trailer was revealed, but it lost traction. Today’s official announcement comes directly from Lionsgate.

Like the trailer that will serve as its primary creative inspiration, the film DEAD ISLAND will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling.

I guess it’s refreshing to see a studio come out and just say that a trailer will serve as the primary inspiration for the film. It might be the first time a film was developed based on a three minute trailer, though.

The game itself was released back on September 6th to pretty universal acclaim. It’s a first person “shooter” with RPG elements like an experience system and weapons upgrading. The game relies heavily on melee weapons as opposed to guns and is fairly open-world in its progression.

The film wants to tell a “human” zombie story in a non-linear fashion, just like the trailer. Half of the official release today is spent praising the 3 minute reveal trailer –

Told in a stark, non-linear fashion, the wrenching trailer captured worldwide fan attention and unanimous critical praise upon its debut, receiving over one million hits in its first 24 hours online, and nearly 10 million views by two days after its debut. Wired Magazine, College Humor and G4TV all called it the best video game trailer of all time, with G4TV adding “The Dead Island trailer is the best trailer I have ever seen in my life. The best video game trailer. The best movie trailer. The best anything trailer.” The trailer went on to win the Golden Lion in Cannes at the International Festival of Creativity, the advertising industry’s highest honor, and it was featured by Adweek on their annual list of the World’s Best Commercials.

But it will still be a zombie film, even with the focus on “human emotions.” If the game itself is any indication, we will see our fair share of decapitations and spilling of entrails.

To be fair, that trailer is an amazing piece of art. And trust me, studios have relied on far thinner sources of inspiration for feature films.

The producer attached to the project, Sean Daniel, produced films like Tombstone and Dazed and Confused.

Alas, I get to embed the trailer in question –

What do you think? Could Dead Island be the next great zombie flick? The Memento of the zombie genre? Let us know in the comments.

  • The Muppets Trailer Channels The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trailer

If you’ve been to a movie in the theaters recently, then you’ve probably seen the new trailer for the upcoming American version of the Swedish crime thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s been the talk of the internet, as many are saying it’s one of the best trailers they’ve seen in a quite some time. I’ll admit, it’s pretty good.

The American version is set to release this December and is directed by Fight Club and Social Network‘s David Fincher. The American version is based on the Swedish film that is based on the incredibly popular novels of the same name…you get the picture.

But now we can add one more layer of “based on” to the mix, as the new teaser trailer for the new Muppets film The Muppets has just hit the interwebs. “The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo,” as you might guess, parodies the TGWTDT trailer. It might be the first time that a film’s trailer parodies another film’s trailer, both of which are set to premiere around the same time.

And it’s funny – a really good viral ad. It’s already been mentioned on the YouTube trends blog as one of the viral hits of the day.

Check it out below. (Tip: If you haven’t seen the trailer that The Muppets trailer parodies, you might want to skip a little further down and watch it first.

The Muppets is coming out November 23rd and sports an all-star cast including Jason Segel, Chris Cooper, MIla Kunis, Amy Adams, Zach Galifianakis and Ricky Gervais.

  • Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer Hits The Interwebs

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer Hits The Interwebs

In what seems to be an early leak, the multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has hit YouTube.

The over 3-min video gives us a quick look at some of the new features to the upcoming title, cinematic slow-mo and dramatic explosions. Just what you would expect from a reveal trailer.

Some of the new things coming in MW3 multiplayer – collectible dog tags, new perks like Quickdraw, Stalker, and Assassin, and it looks like the good ol’ heartbeat sensor has made a grand return.

    Check it out below –

The official Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer World Premiere is a giant event that kicks off today at 2 pm ET. The event, taking place in Los Angeles over the next two days, will give attendees the change to be the first to play MW3, host a $1 million multiplayer tournament and let people browse MW3’s weaponry in real life. Oh, and Kanye West is set to perform at the close of the event.

As a companion of Modern Warfare 3, an all new social gaming experience called “Call of Duty Elite” has been launched in Beta test. The service will be available to all players an will provide stat tracking, group and clan organization, and special analysis modes like map performance and highlights.

Check out the trailer for Elite below –

The original Modern Warfare 3 reveal trailer caused some controversy in the U.K. Some scenes from the game hit a little too close to home as they reminded people of the 7/7 attacks that took place in 2005.

  • New Dark Knight Rises Trailer Promises S&M, Batman Working At Walmart

Who is excited for next summer’s most anticipated film? I know, I’m super stoked about Men In Black III as well.

Another film I’m also pretty anxious for is the finale of Christopher Nolan’s Batman revamp, The Dark Knight Rises. Bane? Awesome. Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Awesome. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman? Meh. Not everything can be perfect, right?

The internet buzz for the upcoming Batman film is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. People are itching for any little bit of exclusive content – a sneak peak, an on-set photo, or casting gossip.

The people at Warner Bros have employed social media to help grow the excitement even more. In May, a viral campaign was launched that allowed fans to uncover the first photo of Tom Hardy as the villain Bane using Twitter reaction.

Users simply tweeted the hashtag #thefirerises and the image was revealed piece by piece.

In June another campaign was launched involving mysterious YouTube videos of chaos after an Arkham Asylum breakout and broadcasts from Gotham Cable News. Although incredibly well made, these are now thought of as clever fan-made promotions.

Still, those videos created quite a stir for the film when they were released.

On the heels of the official TDKR teaser trailer being released along with the new Harry Potter film, a new trailer has emerged.

This new trailer is full of the same mystery and suspense as the teaser trailer, except it’s animated. And is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.

Taiwanese animation company NMA has released their own “The Dark Knight Rises Trailer” today. You might know them from such classics as Lulzsec takes down the CIA, Antonin Scalia shoots guns with children and The Winklevii Canoe gets blown up by Mark Zuckerberg’s cannon fire.

“Looking forward to the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy? We are too. Here’s an ode to Christopher Nolan’s best work,” they say about this new video.

What follows is a very strange take on the trilogy conclusion – one involving a stock market crash, a lot of dreaming, and an unforgettable S&M scene with Catwoman and Robin.

Keep an eye out for the Memento and Inception references. Enjoy:

And to cleanse your palate, here is the real teaser trailer for TDKR:

  • Breaking Bad Season 4 Trailer Hits The Interwebs

Here’s the antidote to the venomous post-Game of Thrones sadness. A panacea, if you will, for the anger you have following the season finale of The Killing and the knowledge that The Walking Dead season 2 premiere is so very, very far away. Ladies and Gentlemen, your official Breaking Bad trailer with a few choice clips from the upcoming season 4, courtesy of AMC.

If you haven’t watched all three seasons of Breaking Bad, but plan to at some point, you may want to turn away as spoilers lie ahead. Your next couple minutes should then be spent brainstorming exactly how you’re going to get your hands on the Pilot. This writer will not advocate any particular retrieval method except to say that various methods exist.

Now, Breaking Bad fans, we all remember how Season 3 ended, correct? The penultimate episode and the finale were two of the best hours of television I’ve ever watched, and I do quite a bit of TV watching. The gun, the gun, the gun…. many a message board was littered with discussion on whether or not the barrel of Jesse’s gun turned slightly off-line at the end. What happened to poor Gale?

AMC has just released a short trailer for the upcoming season, with actual clips from season 4.

“This time, Walt is not in danger. He is the danger.” Check it out below –

Season 4 is set to premiere on July 17th. The season will run 13 episodes. As one commenter puts it, “Hold on to your butts.” Indeed, sir, indeed.
