  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Featurette [WATCH]

We’re about one month away from the next chapter in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movie franchise. With that in mind, we’re sure to see the films marketing go into overdrive. Recently a featurette was released which focuses on another beastly character from Middle Earth: Beorn. I would describe it for you, but I believe Sir Ian McKellen does it better: a Beorn is, “”a man who’s sometimes a bear … or a bear who is sometimes a man.”

  • New Trailer Gives Us A Second Look At RoboCop Remake

So it looks like the original sequence that gave birth to Peter Weller’s RoboCop, the one that featured a vicious gang led by Kurtwood Smith executing Weller’s Officer Murphy with barrage of shotgun fire, didn’t make the cut. The results of that particular scene were brutal and gory, and to many who have the stomach for this kind of entertainment, it also represents one of the high watermarks of the original movie. Considering the polished, blockbuster look of the 2014 remake, not to mention its distinct PG-13 feel, it appears as if the execution scene, and many others that helped the original version earn its R rating, have been re-imagined.

That said, the second trailer gives the appearance the creators are trying to offer their own spin, much like Zach Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead re-imagining, and in a world where unnecessary movie remakes are the norm, that’s about the best you can hope for.

In this case, seeing the ED-209s in service outside of the OmniCorp headquarters is pretty cool, as is seeing the exoskeletons the hybrid design is based on. The remake also boasts an impressive cast, including Gary Oldham, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michael Keaton, something the trailer is not shy in demonstrating. Will this be enough to counteract any stain the idea of remaking such a great predecessor brings? Time will tell.

For those who may not be aware, RoboCob tells the following story:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

The RoboCop remake hits theaters on February 12, 2014.

  • Watch Seth Rogen Battle Zac Efron In “Neighbors” – Green Band Trailer

Seth Rogen was willing to give Zac Efron and his frat brothers a chance, but they just went too far in the latest green band trailer for “Neighbors”. The film, directed by Nicholas Stoller, seems to be on par with his earlier work: Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.

Judging by the trailer below, you’ll get a heavy dose of adolescent tomfoolery, which in all honesty, is exactly what this movie is going for. Checkout the trailer below to see Efron dressed as the Taxi Driver, bush fondling, unexpected E.R. visits among other funny scenariios.

If you’d like a little more information on the film, you can find the official synopsis below:

  • Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Watch the Trailer

Lest we imagine Hollywood lacks strategy in trailer timing, several Horror flicks are seeing the light of day in advance of Halloween. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, exposed the trailer yesterday (shown above). Fans of the franchise will find the same heart-stopping thrills and “found-footage” camera tricks they’ve come to love, but fair warning, this is not Paranormal Activity 5. It is considered a Latino spinoff. The Marked Ones appears in theaters starting January 2014 and 5 will follow in October.

The setting for this version is said to be a “heavily Latino-populated region of California” circa 2012. And the producers are betting you want to get in on some of the Activity, promoting a contest asking fans to, “Tag your city,” in a photo with #TheMarkedOnes, to bring the film to the winning city first (see below).

Early reviewers credit The Marked Ones with staying true to the mythology of the first three films rather than, “the muddled” fourth. Other than that however, it may also be a regurgitation of a gimmick whose time has passed.

Trading on the old babysitter motif of the horror genre, All Hallow’s Eve, will be in theaters just in time for, well, All Hallow’s Eve. The cast is a series of relative unknowns, not uncommon for the genre, led by redhead Katie Maguire who has some credits in shorts, soaps and as a waitress in an episode of Sex and the City.

And of course, we’ve all been enjoying the trailers of the revamped Carrie, premiering in theaters today. Adapted from the 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King story, this time Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Dark Shadows, Hugo) plays the troubled teen and yes, ladies, hold onto your feminine products, Carrie suffers through that old horrible locker room shower scene all over again.

  • 70 Foot Mobile Home Stolen From Parking Lot

A thief stole a 70-foot-long mobile home from a diner parking lot in Hampton, New York on September 23. The owner had staged the trailer at The Big Apple Diner, awaiting a police escort to Vermont – Vermont requires police escorts for transportation of mobile homes.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that the mobile home was sitting on a trailer, when owner had to get emergency surgery. It was left sitting for a few weeks, unsecured, which is a common practice in the particular parking lot. When the owner returned, the $50,000 trailer was gone. A witness said someone came along and hitched their truck to it at about 5 PM, and took off, heading toward Vermont.

One would think stealing a trailer in itself would be brazen enough, but wouldn’t a thief be concerned about police noticing no police escort while driving it into Vermont?

The owner of the trailer, who’d purchased the home through the federal government, has offered a $2,500 reward for information on its whereabouts. Washington County sheriff’s Senior Investigator Bruce Hamilton said the mobile home had been used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The missing home is described as a 2009 Pine Grove series GH016-496. It measures 16 feet wide and 70 feet long, and is tan in color. It features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, central air and some furniture inside.

Anyone with information on the mobile home can call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 518-747-4623.

  • Sniper Elite 3 Announcement Trailer Teases 2014 Release

While Rebellion Development’s Sniper Elite series may not resonate on the same level as a Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty title, the title shows a great deal of potential, especially if the developers would ever allow players some open world freedom with their sniping. The knock against the Sniper Elite series is that it possesses some great gameplay features, but the scenarios surrounding them lack the imagination required to take the title to tentpole status. Words like “generic” and “unconnected” have been used in describing the second installment.

However, recent announcements may provide a reason for hope. According to their latest press release, the concept of an open world will be introduced into the third entry into the Sniper Elite series (not counting the Nazi Zombies spinoff):

“We’re very excited to be working with 505 Games again on a sequel that will build on the highly successful Sniper Elite V2. We”ve got some great ideas to improve on what we did before and feedback from fans has been invaluable. Sniper Elite V2 was just the beginning of what we want to do with the franchise, there are things we didn’t have time to do before that we can really look at featuring this time. We want to focus on making this latest incarnation of Sniper Elite more of a sandbox game but also build on the awesome X-Ray Kill Cam and the atmospheric World War II setting. We’re looking forward to seeing what Sniper Elite fans and gamers in general make of the latest chapter in the story,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO, Rebellion.

The idea of sneaking around in World War 2 Europe, hunting targets of interest while moving in and out of burnt out buildings across the European countryside isn’t a bad one at all. Here’s hoping Rebellion and 505 can pull it off. Because the announcement trailer is more of a tease and due to its cinematic nature, none of this open world is shown.

Sniper Elite 3 will be coming to gamers in 2014 for all current and next gen game systems.
