  • Cam Newton Helps Panthers Cruise Past Buccaneers

Cam Newton has led the Carolina Panthers to another victory, while showing off his impressive skills. This week, the outstanding quarterback led them to a victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have been struggling severely and have not won a single game all season.

Cam Newton has operated on a level all on his own when compared with others on his team, at times leading the team in passing and rushing yards. In the Thursday night game this week, they defeated the Bus’ccaneers 31-13.

Newton has helped the Panthers improve greatly, after several seasons of struggling. While they are not an elite team by any means, and in fact started this season 0-2, they have won 4 of their last 5 games, and are on track for a successful season.

ESPN states that The Panthers have also won three straight under the play of Newton, and in those games he has thrown for 667 yards, six touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He also has two rushing touchdowns.

In yesterday’s game, Newton completed 23 of 32 passes, and also rushed for 55 yards on 11 attempts, a team-high. Meanwhile, the Bucs lost the first seven games in the season for the seventh time in franchise history.

Cam Newton is currently in his third year in the league, after graduating from the university of Auburn. According to Sports Illustrated, Newton has been playing better than he ever has, as he has been composed in the pocket, dynamic on the move, and able to run a complex offense.

Unlike some of the other stand-out younger quarterbacks like Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson, Newton has yet to make it to the post-season, but with a 4-3 record and an impressive start, maybe this will be his year. This also marks the first time that the Panthers have had a record that was above .500 in five years, which is a bit scary to think about.

While Cam Newton is certainly standing out in the statistics, he is also able to humbly admit that it is a team effort, and it would be wrong to say otherwise. After the game, he was quoted saying, “I just feel as if my production is off a lot of other people’s production. This is not a one-man show. I understand that, and I will not have that type of attitude.”

  • Matt Schaub Struggles In Loss, Sets Pick Six Record

Matt Schaub, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, has been struggling as of lately. After their latest game against the 49ers, he set the NFL record for interceptions after throwing a pick six in four straight games. The Texans were one of the top teams in the league last year and while they still have all of their same all-star players including Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, the team has a lackluster record of only 2-3.

Schaub has had a successful run with the Texans and lead the team to the playoffs in 2011 and 2012. However, this season has proved to be much different, and many of the fans are blaming Schaub’s performance for the team’s awful record. The season started out good enough, with Schaub leading the Texans to a comeback victory in week 1 against the Chargers, but things have certainly gone downhill from there.

Schaub’s first pass of the night against the 49ers was picked off on Sunday night. The Chicago Tribune mentions that the pass was picked off by Tramaine Brock and returned for a touchdown, making Schaub the first NFL quarterback to throw a pick six in four consecutive games. As if that embarrassing statistic is not enough, it was only his 1st of 3 interceptions of the night and he had 0 touchdowns. The whole team struggled in a terrible loss, that ended 34-3.

Schaub was eventually replaced by the backup, T.J. Yates, late in the game. After his awful performance, it is no wonder that he was benched by the end of the game, but head coach Gary Kubiak says that Schaub will remain as the starter. He said “This has to be rock bottom,” assuring fans that he has to improve and knows that they will be able to salvage the season. For now, he still beileves that Schaub is the best option, but how long will that view last? The Texans face off against the Rams next week, which should be a bit of an easier match-up, and give Schaub a chance to shine again.

Houston is now on their first 3 game skid since the end of 2011, a team that had high hopes of making the Super Bowl. T.J Yates has proved that he could play, after replacing Schaub after an injury in 2011, and the Texans may be forced to turn to him if Schaub’s play continues to struggle. Some frustrated fans even burned Schaub’s jersey after their loss to the Seahawks.

  • Peyton Manning Leads The Broncos To Another Blowout

Peyton Manning continues to lead the Denver Broncos to blowout victories, without even letting their opponents compete. He continues to set records and threw for a record high seven touchdowns in their first game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles were his latest victim, as they fell in a severe beat-down that ended with a final rout of 52-20.

Manning, at the age of 37, is one of the oldest quarterbacks in the league, but he still continues to impress and his Broncos are currently one of the top teams in the league. They continue to rack up points and scored more points than they ever had in their 54-year history in yesterday’s game, according to NBC News. Manning completed 28 of his 34 throws for 327 yards and did not even play in the fourth quarter.

He is now averaging four touchdown passes per game and with 16, it gives him the most in the first month ever. The Broncos have also scored 179 points in their first 4 games, the second most in history, behind only the 1966 Dallas Cowboys, who were able to put up 183 points. While Manning started his career with the Colts and had great success there, he has had incredible success with the Broncos and hopes to finally get a Super Bowl ring with a successful season this year. As the Denver Post mentions, before Manning signed to play with the Broncos before the 2012 season, he was already considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

Since joining the Broncos, he has led them to 17 victories and passed for 53 touchdowns, with only 11 interceptions. The Eagles are also experiencing a disappointing season, along with the rest of their division. They started the season 1-0, but have lost the following three games. It seems that the era of Michael Vick is coming to an end, after finishing the game with no touchdowns and he continues to struggle. Although, he did complete 14 of 27 for 248 yards, so it could just be their tough opponent in this case.

Manning said after the win, “I think we’ll enjoy this win and we’ll learn from it. But you have to move on to the next week pretty quickly.” Next week, the Broncos play the Dallas Cowboys, who are 2-2, and lead the NFC East division in a very disappointing season. Peyton Manning continues to impress NFL fans and his opponents and seems to beg the question, will they able to go 16-0 like the Patriots did, before their eventual loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl?
