  • Toby Keith’s Bar Owes $250,000 In Back Taxes

The tax debt of Toby Keith’s I Love this Bar & Grill at Destiny USA has continued to grow, now totaling over $250,000.

Earlier this month, New York filed a new tax warrant against the restaurant for $107,000, related to the 2013 fourth quarter taxes that the business owes.

The new debt accompanies the previous debt from the 2013 second and third quarters that totaled $145,000. The bar originally owed $189,000 from that time period, but made some payments after another tax warrant was issued earlier this year.

The restaurant currently remains open and has events, including concerts, scheduled for the next several months. However, there has been speculation that the Syracuse location may soon close their doors.

Toby Keith’s bar was one of the first tenants announced for the Destiny USA’s expansion section in 2012. The bar opened in 2013 and occupies 20,000 square-feet of the third floor. Each bar has their unique touches, including guitar-shaped bars, drinks in mason jars, and plenty of plasma televisions. The bars are complete with girls in skimpy outfits, known as “whiskey girls” and live music.

The tax department will try to make payment arrangements with the bar before having to seize the property. If a seizure was to occur, the tax department offers deals to allow the businesses to eventually re-open.

In March, the doors closed on the Tuscan Mall location in Tuscan, Arizona. Employees were left without jobs and explained that none of them saw the closing coming. The general manager did not comment on why the doors were closed.

Toby Keith currently has 16 locations across the United States.

  • CMA Awards 2012: Taylor Swift Gets Snubbed

CMA Awards 2012: Taylor Swift Gets Snubbed

The CMA Awards were full of tears and elation last night, with married couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert taking home several statues, including one for a song they co-wrote about Shelton’s brother, who died in a car accident when the singer was just a teenager. The couple took home the award for Song Of The Year for that one, and made CMA history, as well; while three other married couples have been nominated for the award, they were the first to actually win.

There was some controversy surrounding the show, as well; Toby Keith, who was nominated and won Music Video Of The Year for “Red Solo Cup”, refused to attend on the grounds that the Association has snubbed him for several years in a row and said he feels “abandoned”.

“Your industry can get behind you and crank you up and make you a household name, help you get there. Or you can be abandoned like I was,” Keith said. “I’m not going to leave it up to this industry that I’m in to give me any support.”

But one thing that has people talking today is the fact that Taylor Swift, who is usually an awards show darling, didn’t take home any statues last night.

Swift was nominated for two awards, however, and performed a new song for the occasion.

  • Toby Keith To Skip CMAs, Possibly Forever

Toby Keith, who has seen his star rise over the years with hit songs like “Wanna Talk About Me” and “Red Solo Cup”, says he is forgoing the Country Music Awards once again this year…and possibly won’t be back.

“Your industry can get behind you and crank you up and make you a household name, help you get there. Or you can be abandoned like I was,” Keith said. “I’m not going to leave it up to this industry that I’m in to give me any support.”

Keith says the awards show has snubbed him since 2005, although before that year he was nominated for a whopping 27 awards and took home two. This year, however, he’s nominated for Music Video Of The Year for “Red Solo Cup”, but that’s not enough to make him break down and attend.

“I ain’t showing up. I gotta go get a root canal that day, or something fun,” he said.

Don’t feel too bad for the singer, though; with his own clothing line, brand of alcohol, a film production company, and an acting career as well as his music, he’s one of the top paid entertainers in the country, coming in just behind Beyonce and The Police with $48 million earned last year.

“That’s the one I want to win,” he said, “I want to be the Mac Daddy of Forbes!”

  • ACM Awards 2012: Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, and…Carrot Top?

This year’s American Country Music Awards, which were hosted by Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire last night in party-city Las Vegas, mixed country with rock, pop, R&B and a little bit of what the?

Country music’s finest were out in sparkling dresses and ten-gallon hats, but they were joined by a random selection of stars from the worlds of rock, television, and even stage (comedy stage, that is). Shock-rockers KISS took the podium in full makeup to present the award of vocal group of the year to Lady Antelbellum, while Ashton Kutcher of “Two And A Half Men”–and rumored lead in an upcoming Steve Jobs biopic–awarded Miranda Lambert a statue for female vocalist of the year. Her husband Blake Shelton won male vocalist of the year, making the two of them sort of like prom king and queen.

There were so many performances that the first award wasn’t even handed out until thirty minutes into the show, and they kept up throughout the night. Carrie Underwood kicked things off in a sexy little fringed dress with her song “Good Girl”, getting the audience warmed up for the night. Martina McBride and Train’s Pat Monahan teamed up to provide a soundtrack to the on-stage wedding of a New Jersey couple with the tune “Marry Me”. Steve Martin and Rascal Flatts paid a banjo-filled tribute to the late bluegrass great Earl Scruggs, who passed away last week.

But perhaps the oddest–and what many would say was the most fun–performance came when Toby Keith made his way through the audience brandishing a red solo cup and singing–you guessed it–“Red Solo Cup”. He was joined by none other than prop comedian Carrot Top, a random pairing if ever I’ve seen one.

Twitter users were happy, annoyed, and confused about the performance.
