  • Sasha Alexander And Angie Harmon’s Show Gets Renewed On TNT

It’s been announced that Rizzoli and Isles has been picked up by TNT for another season. The police procedural starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander proved to be one of TNT’s more successful shows. According to TNT, the show “finished this past summer as basic cable’s No. 1 series and has ranked as one of basic cable’s Top 5 series for five consecutive years, including 2014 to date”. The sixth season of Rizzoli and Isles is slated to air next summer.

Rizzoli and Isles is just the latest show to be renewed by TNT. Last week, they announced that they will be picking up the Sean Bean vehicle Legends for a 10-episode second season. Other shows that were picked up by the network are the dramas Major Crimes, Falling Skies, The Last Ship, and Murder in the First.

Based on the work of crime novelist Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli and Isles stars Harmon as the tough Boston police detective Jane Rizolli and Sasha Alexander as the smart medical examiner Maura Isles. Despite being polar opposites, the two offbeat friends work together to solve crime in the streets of Boston.

Rizzoli and Isles premiered in 2010, with the show starting out strong in the ratings. It immediately became one of TNT’s more well-known shows, and consistently generated good numbers for the network.

Both Harmon and Alexander have TV backgrounds, appearing as regulars in other crime shows before working together in Rizzoli and Isles. Prior to her work in Rizzoli and Isles, Harmon’s last big TV role was as a regular cast member in the long-running police drama Law and Order. Alexander on the other hand, is known for her role as Special Agent Caitlin Todd in NCIS.

One of Alexander’s earlier roles was in Dawson’s Creek as Gretchen Witter, which she played for a total of 20 episodes.

  • Sharon Stone to Star in TNT Drama, ‘Agent X’

Sharon Stone will star in a new TNT drama called Agent X starting in 2015. On Friday, the cable network ordered 10 episodes of Agent X, which also stars Gerald McRaney–known for his role on House of Cards, and Jeff Hephner–known for roles in both the film Interstellar and NBC’s Chicago Fire.

Sharon Stone, who also serves as executive producer of Agent X, will play the part of Natalie Maccabee, the first female vice president of the United States. Maccabee has the power to deploy a secret agent, John Case ( played by Jeff Hephner), who tackles crises beyond the traditional reach of both law enforcement officials and the government. He takes on threats around the world and in Washington, D.C.

“Maccabee soon finds herself being drawn into the action,” a TNT announcement says.

Gerald McRaney plays the role of Malcolm Miller, who is the chief steward of the vice president’s mansion. He is the one introduces Maccabee to Case.

Lillian McCarthy is the senior vice president of TNT and TBS Original Productions. She is very excited about what Sharon Stone and company can do for the network.

Agent X is a perfect fit for TNT’s expanding lineup of action-dramas,” she says. “It’s a slick, high-energy thrill-ride with lots of twists and turns, big action sequences and (cool) stunts. And at the center of it all, we have an incredible cast led by Jeff Hephner, Sharon Stone and Gerald McRaney.”

Did you know that the last time Sharon Stone headlined a series on TV was back in 1983? She starred in an NBC sitcom that year called Bay City Blues.

Fans will have to wait a while longer before seeing Stone on TNT in Agent X, however. Even though it is scheduled to air in 2015, it will likely be toward the end of the year.

  • Shaq Alleged Assault: The Former NBA Player is Under Investigation

Former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal, 42, is under investigation for an alleged assault towards a fellow co-worker at Turner Studios.

Robert Williams, 44, accuses O’Neal for violently tackling him as he was working at the studio on May 19, 2013.

Williams’ claims are: “Shaquille O’Neal ran out of a room and hit me with a tackle punch to the back knocking me down and falling on top of me injuring my neck and back.”

The incident was reported to Turner Security. Williams says he received medical care following the attack.

The Atlanta Police Department was also informed about the confrontation that took place between Williams and O’Neal, but not within the same night.

Williams later recounted the events to the department.

“(The co-worker) alleged Shaquille O’Neal tackled him to the ground causing injury to his back while they were at work at Turner Studios,”Sgt. Greg Lyon said, according to WSB-TV 2. He later stated: “I don’t know the extent of his injury, but I have heard that as well, that his injuries were severe to his back.”

O’Neal’s attorney has associated the incident with “horseplay” and asserts that his client never intended to harm Williams.

Although charges were never filed against the NBA star, investigators say that they will continue to look into the allegations.

Lyon told the station that because the investigation was primarily “handled by the zone,” they plan to take their findings and go from there.

Williams’ attorney sent a statement to WSB-TV 2, stating that his client is in surgery and is very aware of the criminal investigation underway.

“However, he does state emphatically, that the permanent injuries he received were not the result of participation in any form of ‘horseplay.’”

O’Neal, who retired from the NBA in 2011, is currently a lead analyst on Inside the NBA for TNT’s sports coverage in Atlanta.

  • Jennifer Beals Lands Lead Role In Kyra Sedgwick-Produced TNT Drama

Actress Jennifer Beals is set to star of the TNT pilot of the supernatural medical drama, Proof. Produced by acclaimed actress Kyra Sedgwick, the show’s plot revolves around Beals’ character Dr. Kathryn Russo, a brilliant but somewhat jaded female surgeon with a bit of a rough edge. Her attitude is heavily influenced by the devastating death of her teenage son and her strained relationship with her only daughter. In the wake of her son’s death, Russo begins investigating cases concerning reincarnations, haunting, out-of-body experiences, and other supernatural phenomena.

The pilot will be penned by Rob Bragin of Murphy Brown and Greek fame, and directed by The West Wing director Alex Graves. The show’s theme seeks “proof” and answers to one of life’s most mysterious questions about death – does the human experience truly end with death or is there something else beyond it?

The The L Word star has been busy lately with other projects aside from Proof. She recently appeared in the Fox crime drama television series Chicago Code. She also served as co-creator and executive producer of HBO’s hour-long series Laughs Unlimited along with Oren Moverman, Adena Chawke, Lauren Schuler Doner, and Tony Swofford.

Beals was in her teens when she first gained Hollywood’s attention. In 1983, she played the role of Alex Owens in the romantic drama film Flashdance. She earned a Golden Globe and NAACP Image Award for her performance in the movie. The 50-year-old actress went on to starr in 50 films as well as the popular Showtime TV series The L Word in which she played the role of Bette Porter.

Apart from acting, Beals is also a photographer who has held several exhibits that showcased her work. A strong advocate of gay and women’s rights, Beals is also a practicing Buddhist and an active triathlete.

  • What Is It Like To Defuse A Bomb?

You’ve seen the movies where the focused combat veteran or nervous rookie cop clenches a pair of wire cutters and is fixated on snipping either the blue or red wire. According to TV Tropes, the bomb defusing concept is known as the wire dilemma, where in “fiction-land, disarming just about any bomb is a matter of cutting the right wires in the right order,” usually given by distinct colors. Snip the wrong wire, and its game over – but what is it really like to disarm a bomb?

Noam Kaiser, a Combat Officer in the Israeli Defense Force of five years, had this to say to Quora.com:

“Well…:) First of all, you are not alone. You’re backed up by an adjacent medical team, and a team mate which is meant to ensure there are no interferences such as wind, sun light blocking eye sight, sand pouring in and so on. It is carried out very slowly, with precision (Not surgical, but very precise) and with a careful, delicate touch.”

Kaiser said that keeping such a chaotic weapon under control requires the environment to be handled without any interference of the defusing process.
“As much silence as possible is required. [Yet this is] not always possible.”

    (image)

With no surprise, movies don’t provide an accurate portrayal of how a bomb is defused – it’s more of a long and meticulous process with no quick impulses.

“I agree it is nothing like the movies. For a bystander it would look like a slow, tedious and boring process. It sure doesn’t look like it when you’re the guy crouching over the bomb.

Sean Sandeen, the second top rated answerer on Quora concerning what it was like to defuse a bomb, added that, “It is nothing like the movies. There is no blue wire to single out and cut. You have to understand the entire firing system and know how best to disrupt it. You have to account for the possibility of a detonation no matter how confident you are in your procedures.”

“In real life it isn’t the big things that are scary. If a large device detonates in your face, you won’t even feel it. The scary things are the smaller ones, the things that take a hand or a leg; you’ll feel that.”

Military fields like the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) keep their render safe procedures (RSP) secret in order to deprive intelligence to their enemies; if such knowledge is in the wrong hands, then opponents may develop new anti-handling techniques which make bombs harder to defuse.

“Once finished though, a good cigarette is required. Even if you’re a non-smoker,” said Kaiser.

  • Janet Tamaro to Step Down as ‘Rizzoli and Isles’ Showrunner

Janet Tamaro has announced she will step down as showrunner for crime procedural series Rizzoli and Isles. She will continue on in a consulting role for Season Five.

Tamaro developed the one-hour TNT drama based on a series of novels by Tess Gerritsen. She said she is “incredibly proud” of the work she’s done in the first four seasons of the show and is leaving it in great shape. She told Variety that she is at the top of her game creatively and wants to keep that momentum going as she branches into other projects.

News of Tamaro’s departure comes just on the heels of the production wrap of Season Four. The final four episodes of that season will air in January, 2014.

Rumors of changes have circulated in recent weeks. Production was halted following the August 19, 2013 suicide of 29 year-old cast member Lee Thompson Young.

Tamaro reveals that while Young’s death was not the reason for her departure from Rizzoli and Isles, it played a role in the decision to move on: “It was a catalyst for me to examine what I want to be doing next.”

Tamaro said she hopes to continue collaborating with Warner Horizon Television and TNT for future projects. She says they have “been a dream to work with.”

No showrunner has been chosen to replace Tamaro.

Rizzoli and Isles was recently renewed for a 15-episode fifth season. The summer finale aired September 10, and the show’s Twitter account is already talking up its January return.

The series’ titular roles are filled by Angie Harmon as homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as forensic expert and Massachusetts state Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Miles. Other cast members include Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, and Lorraine Bracco.

  • Janet Tamaro Leaves TNT Hit ‘Rizzoli & Isles’

Janet Tamaro Leaves TNT Hit ‘Rizzoli & Isles’

Janet Tamaro, of TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, exclusively announced to Variety that she will be leaving the series after the fourth season ends early next year. Tamaro is a producer, writer and showrunner for the television drama, and she created the series for the network in 2010 from characters in novels by Tess Gerritsen. She is rumored, however, to be staying on as a consulting producer for the series’ fifth season.

Tamaro told Variety, “I did four seasons that I’m incredibly proud of, and the show is in great shape.”

Many viewers thought Tamaro’s departure may be the result of the untimely suicide of show favorite, Lee Thompson Young, who died last month; Tamaro admitted that her friend and coworker’s death was a sort of “catalyst” for her decision, as it made her reexamine her career and the endless possibilities she still has available. It was not, however, the ultimate reason for her leaving; in the Variety interview Tamaro also said:

“It’s been phenomenal, but I’m at the top of my game creatively and really want to use the juice I have to produce other projects…I do so love writing female characters, and I want to do more!”

The writer recently Tweeted about her decision:

Tamaro is also reportedly in talks with Rizzoli & Isles producers to create more shows for TNT, as well as having signed on to a deal with New Regency for a suspenseful thriller.

A replacement for Tamaro on Rizzoli & Isles has not yet been named.

Anyway, TNT knows drama. That’s their catchphrase. In order to prove that drama can strike anywhere, they’ve released a sequel to that viral ad. “On a cold winter’s day, we placed the famous red button somewhere in a Dutch shopping street,” says TNT Benelux.

  • TNT’s “Push Button To Add Drama” Ad Virally Explodes

TNT’s awesomely-crazy “Push To Add Drama” ad has become a viral hit of massive proportions, rivaling only Volkswagen’s “Darth Vader” Super Bowl commercial that took the Internet by storm. The 1:46 gem is an exercise in entertaining chaos as ambulances, street brawls, attempted abductions, and shoot outs with the police are featured.

The wild ride of an ad, according to Mashable’s viral video chart, is the second-most shared commercial of all time, trailing only the aforementioned Volkswagen/Darth Vader runaway hit. To further demonstrate the video’s incredible popularity, since being uploaded on YouTube on April 11, it has already amassed over 21 million views, and is quickly closing in on the 22 million views threshold.

There’s also something of a Like/Dislike war going on over at the ad’s YouTube page, but the “Likes” have the overwhelming advantage, outnumbering the dislikes, 210,074 to 2,126.

Incidentally, Turner Broadcasting created the commercial to advertise their channel in Belgium. The description reveals the strategy:

To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium we placed a big red push button on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text “Push to add drama” invited people to use the button. And then we waited…

The question I have is this, if someone put one of these in a public place you frequent, would you push it? You’d almost have to, right?

  • Push The Red Button To Add Drama In This TNT Ad

TNT knows drama, at least according to their catchphrase. If “drama” includes ambulances, bikini-clad girls on motorcycles, fistfights, bloody shootouts, and tire-screeching getaways, then yes, TNT does indeed know drama.

Turner Broadcasting just launched their new TNT cable channel in Benelux, the European region comprising Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. On the heels of this launch, they’ve also just unveiled a ridiculously fun viral ad campaign that shows just how quickly drama can escalate.

    Courtesy of TurnerBenelux:

To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium we placed a big red push button on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text “Push to add drama” invited people to use the button. And then we waited…

So, the residents of this “average Flemish town” pushed the button. And chaos ensued. Check it out below:

The new high-def TNT channel (telent channel 561) brings the region popular series that we Americans should recognize like Men of a Certain Age, Smallville, and Friday Night Lights. Drama indeed.

According to some comments on YouTube as well as some on reddit, it looks like this advert was shot in the small town of Aarschot, which sits in the province of Flemish Brabant in Flanders. The town has a population of around 28,000.

Also, speaking of reddit, this video might have already spawned a new meme. Some users have already screencapped and commented on unimpressed ginger kid, first seen at about 0:41 in the clip.
