Susan Sarandon took part in a Burning Man ceremony in Black Rock Desert, Nevada on Saturday, during which she carried the ashes of friend and late LSD advocate Timothy Leary.
Most of Timothy Leary’s ashes were sent into outer space back in 1997, but those remaining here on earth were in the possession of Susan Sarandon.
“When I went to Burning Man last time, that’s when I thought I’d bring him back here,” Sarandon said. “I think he’d be so happy. I think he would have loved the chaos [of Burning Man]. He would have loved it and all these people honoring him with LSD.”
Susan Sarandon reportedly marched–carrying Timothy Leary’s remains–into a church that was created as part of the Burning Man art displays. It–along with Leary’s ashes–later went up in smoke as part of the event’s practices.
Sarandon shared a photo of the fire on Instagram.
“Totem of Confessions burns,” she captioned the shot.
She also shared a picture of herself. Susan Sarandon lent her creative flair to the week-long Burning Man events.
“These boots were made for BurninG Man. @officinecreative_official @madisonshoes madisonstyle.com,” she captioned it.
Earlier this summer, Susan Sarandon spoke out on her belief that marijuana should be made legal everywhere.
“It’s an important source of income,” she said. “You also see the reports on kids who have seizures that are prevented by medical marijuana. You see the relief it gives to vets. It’s also a lovely way to socialize and be with people–and to be with yourself and de-stress.”
