Rita Ora Joins The Voice UK as Judge

The BBC this week announced that British singer Rita Ora will be joining The Voice UK as a judge. Ora will be replacing Kylie Minogue, who was a judge on the show during season three.

The Voice UK is a popular televised talent show competition that airs on BBC One. It is based on a Dutch TV series that spawned Voice shows in dozens of countries including Sweden, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S. The U.S. version of The Voice began its seventh season this week featuring Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, and Blake Shelton as judges.

Ora conveyed her excitement for the new gig through social media, posting a pic of the announcement to her Twitter feed:

The BBC’s Voice UK Twitter account also welcomed Ora to the show with a vine debuting the singer’s new red chair:

Aside from Minogue, all of the judges from season three of The Voice UK will be returning next season. Ora will be joined on-stage by Ricky Wilson, will.i.am, and Sir Tom Jones.

Ora addressed her co-judges in another tweet this week. The singer was also welcomed to the show in a similar manner by Wilson and Jones:

The next season of The Voice UK is set to begin in January 2015. The blind rounds that Ora refers to are, according to the BBC, set to begin soon in Manchester, England.

Watch out contestants, there is a new coach in town! It has been confirmed that Kylie Minogue will be joining the coaches on Britain’s “The Voice” for the television show’s third season. She will be coaching alongside former coaches will.i.am, from the “Black Eyed Peas”, and Tom Jones.

Minogue announced to her fans via Twitter that she will be the newest coach for the popular singing competition on Monday, and seems very excited about it!

The BBC thinks that Minogue will make a great addition to the show. “Grammy award-winner Kylie has had worldwide record sales of more than 68 million and was given an Order of the British Empire for services to music,” the BBC said. “With 10 world tours, 11 successful albums and over 50 hit singles internationally, Kylie is well placed to use her expertise to find and nurture new and exciting vocal talent.”

“I’m very excited to become a coach on The Voice UK”, said Minogue. “I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series. The search for new talent is such an important aspect of the music industry, and The Voice UK gives us all a part to play in that. Will I be competitive? Probably more than even I imagine! Watch this space!”

  • Will.I.Am Criticized for Tweeting During The Voice

Here’s some sound advice for Will.I.Am: It’s probably best not to tweet while you’re at work. Unless, of course, you just enjoy being scolded by the masses.

Viewers were a little cheesed off upon learning that The Voice UK mentor was engaging in some Twitter usage when he should have been paying attention to what was happening on-stage. Considering he’s a judge on the popular television program, shouldn’t he be, you know, judging folks instead of using his phone to send out tweets? One would think so, but then again, this is show business. And what makes for good show business?

    Controversy!

The incident apparently took place when the other judges were discussing Jaz Ellington’s performance on Saturday night. Fans who spotted Will.I.Am’s bad habit claimed that he looked “bored”. Not surprisingly, his behavior has been categorized by fans and BBC higher-ups as “incredibly rude”. Honestly, I can’t say that I blame them. Despite the talented musicians hectic schedule, he should probably focus on the job he’s been hired to perform. I really don’t care how busy the guy is, there’s really no excuse for this.

Here’s what he tweeted in response to the backlash:

If you saw me on my phone I wasn’t being rude… I was connecting to people watching.

“TV, phone, laptop, & tablet.. its a new day…if I dont tweet during live tv Im not connecting to people watching in the new way thevoiceuk.

Considering that the Daily Star is reporting that floor managers asked Will.I.Am to turn off his phone, I doubt this defense will hold up very well. If he’s so desperate to interact with the audience, why not analyze the performances and return the tweets after the show? Just a thought. Then again, I’m not a big shot musician/celebrity with a swollen bank account, so perhaps I’m not the best person to weigh in on the subject.

This isn’t the only issues Will.I.Am is facing as a result of his time on The Voice UK. Apparently the singer has been accused to subliminally promoting his music, as well as spending only a short amount of time with his singers on the show. If you’re too busy to give your undivided attention to the project, maybe it’s time to step down.
