  • Julia Roberts Surprises In Beaded Cocktail Dress At Emmys

Pretty Woman Julia Roberts was definitely among the best dressed on the 2014 Primetime Emmy red carpet in her Elie Saab Haute Couture frock. Judging by how she held her own among many actresses half her age, we are not surprised that she has been listed for a record of eleven times as one of  People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World”.

There were initial rumors that the 46-year-old A-lister would don menswear or that she’d go for a simple black ensemble, but she surprised everyone –and turned heads– with this un-expected ruffled winner.

Embellished with oversized yet classy statement beading, the short cocktail dress shows plenty of leg and features a plunging neckline, which Roberts was able to carry off in style with peep toe stilettoes.

She kept her hairstyle simple, opting for flowing bright blonde locks and her make-up was very subdued. Her smile shone with barely-there color on her lips, as did her eyes in fresh mascara. To complete the look, the actress wore drop earrings and a statement ring.

E! News reports that Roberts chose a short dress to avoid any potential falling. “It’s nerve-wracking to wear long. There’s the tripping factor.” said the Erin Brockovich actress.

E! News further asked what the actress planned to do with the dress after the awards night. Roberts answered: “I’ll just pack it up for my daughter when she’s tall enough to wear it. That’s the whole point, isn’t it?”

Roberts was tasked to present an award and was in fact among the very first presenters to be chosen for the 2014 Primetime Emmys. She was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a TV Miniseries or a Movie for HBO’s The Normal Heart. The Normal Heart is a made for TV drama directed by Ryan Murphy and written by Larry Kramer. It was based on Kramer’s own 1985 play of same name. The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Jonathan Groff and Matt Bomer among others.

  • Julia Roberts and Hubby to Receive LGBT Honor

Julia Roberts and husband Danny Moder will soon be honored by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network for their work on an HBO film called The Normal Heart. Roberts starred in the film and Danny Moder served as director of photography. The adaptation came from a 1985 play of the same name, written by Larry Kramer that highlighted the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Julia Roberts and Danny Moder will receive the GLSEN Humanitarian Award, not only for their work in The Normal Heart, but also for their off-screen efforts to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. The couple also helps global charities like UNICEF, Stand Up to Cancer, and Heal the Bay.

“We are proud to recognize Danny Moder & Julia Roberts, whose inspiring work on HBO’s The Normal Heart has brought renewed attention to an important movement – and an on-going crisis – in LGBT and American history,” GLSEN said in a statement to the media.

Danny Moder and Julia Roberts will be recognized for their efforts at the 2014 Respect Awards in Los Angeles on October 17. Just the trailer for The Normal Heart gives a hint at why.

The Normal Heart was nominated for sixteen Emmy Awards. The 2014 Emmy Awards will take place next Monday night, August 25th. In addition to Julia Roberts, the film stars Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer. Roberts, who played Dr. Emma Brookner, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. Mark Ruffalo was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his performance as Ned Weeks. Matt Bomer, along with Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory), Joe Mantello, and Alfred Molina all received nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

The Normal Heart was released on DVD back in May. It sounds like one of those films that absolutely everyone should see. The cast of Emmy-nominated characters is beyond impressive.

Congratulations to Julia Roberts and hubby Danny Moder for their work both on and off-screen to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

  • Matt Bomer On His Dramatic Weight Loss

To get into character for his role in the HBO original movie The Normal Heart, Matt Bomer had to lose upwards of 35 pounds.

In the film, Bomer is almost unrecognizable and he wanted to make sure that his three children, who he has with his husband Simon Halls, knew that he was healthy in real life. His character, a New York Times reporter, contracted AIDS in the 1980s and is dying, thus the extreme weight loss.

“We definitely prepared our kids really early on, before I even started losing weight,” the White Collar and Magic Mike actor said. “I spoke with a professional who told me how to relay it to them in language they could really understand, and they were great about it. Maybe it’s a luxury of having all boys, who are like ‘Yeah! Go!’ You know, it’s like they were my cheering squad.”

“And I remember, at one point I had lost 25 or 30 pounds and I came home, and it’s such a testament to childhood imagination, because they were like, ‘Oh, I thought you were going to be skinnier than that.’ And I was like, ‘Hey, I’m working here!’” Bomer continued. “But they were really great about it, and understanding. I think that our oldest son, who tends to be a caretaker, said at one point, ‘When are you going to get to eat pancakes with me again?’ But that was about as difficult as it seemed to get for them.”

Bomer first read The Normal Heart while in high school, and when he learned that Ryan Murphy would be creating a film adaptation, he knew instantly that he wanted to be a part of the film in any way possible. “I just wanted to be involved with the project in some capacity,” he said. “I didn’t care what my part was.” He never thought that he would land the lead role, but Murphy did.

“Matt was the first person I felt would do whatever it took to be true to the history of the part and to the millions of people who have died because of this disease,” Murphy explained. “I needed somebody who was a protector of that. That meant going on a really dangerous, incredibly severe diet and going to a dark place emotionally.”

And that is exactly what Bomer did. He even left his family for a full month so that he could get into his character’s mind and prepare himself physically and emotionally for his part.

“It was sort of one month of casual weight loss and then two months of really aggressive weight loss, and that’s when I left my family, toward the end of the second month, and then just lived on my own in New York and really tried to focus on really solely what Felix was going through,” he said. “I obviously consulted someone and I prepared our kids as best I could, but I felt it was best for me to be away at that point in time until I sort of finished the project and could start eating again.”

  • Matt Bomer Reveals He Is Married

Matt Bomer came out publicly as a gay man while accepting an award at the Desert AIDS Project’s Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in 2012.

After that, fans assumed they knew everything there was to know about the handsome actor, but there is one thing that Bomer has kept a secret … until now.

During a recent interview with Details magazine, Bomer shocked his fans once again by revealing that he is married to his partner Simon Halls, who he has three children with, and has been for three years!

The Magic Mike star also talked to the publication about his newest role in Ryan Murphy’s film adaptation of the play The Normal Heart. In the film, Bomer plays a gay man dying from AIDS. He credits the author of the play Larry Kramer with helping pave the road for gay rights. “I wouldn’t have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn’t for people like Larry,” Bomer said.

Bomer explained that he had read The Normal Heart when he was in high school, and when he heard that there would be a film, he wanted to be involved in any way possible. “I just wanted to be involved with the project in some capacity,” he said. “I didn’t care what my part was.”

While Bomer had his doubts about landing a role in the film, Murphy did not. “Matt was the first person I felt would do whatever it took to be true to the history of the part and to the millions of people who have died because of this disease,” Murphy said. “I needed somebody who was a protector of that. That meant going on a really dangerous, incredibly severe diet and going to a dark place emotionally.”

Bomer lost 40 pounds for his role with the help of his doctors and a14-day alkalized-water, juice, tea and enzyme cleanse. He also received tips from his Magic Mike co-star Mathew McConaughey, who lost 50 pounds to play an aids victim and activist in Dallas Buyers Club.

  • Jim Parsons And All-Star Cast Highlight Ryan Murphy’s Upcoming HBO Film

The news just continues to pile on for the HBO network today. HBO already announced that its hit comedy Girls would be returning for a fourth season, and the premiere date for season four of Game Of Thrones.

The most recent news comes for an upcoming film that will air on HBO, which is likely to be up for several awards next year.

Two openly gay men, Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer, play the leads in the film’s adaptation. Parsons is known for playing the part of Sheldon Cooper on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, earning him multiple Emmys, and Bomer is the star of USA’s White Collar.

Ryan Murphy has said that “it is sort of thrilling” to feature two gay men in an AIDS TV drama.

The film is called The Normal Heart, and is directed by Ryan Murphy, who has assembled an all-star cast for the HBO project. The film is also being written by Larry Kramer, who is an Academy Award nominee for the film Women In Love.

Ryan Murphy has previously worked on a series of successful shows including Glee, which he has won multiple Emmys for. He also works on American Horror Story, and was the director of Nip/Tuck. Murphy will join Kramer who wrote the film as well as the groundbreaking play that it is based on to make the film that is presented by HBO Films.

The Normal Heart is a drama that tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s.

The film will take a look at the nation’s sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial.

Kramer’s play debuted at New York’s Public Theatre in 1985 and was revived in Los Angeles and London, and off-Broadway. Jim Parsons plays gay activist Tommy Boatwright, reprising his role from the 2011 Broadway revival. The 2011 Broadway revival garnered five Tony nominations, winning for Best Revival, Best Featured Actor and Best Featured Actress.

In addition to the lead actors being played by Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer, many other actors have joined on in an outstanding ensemble cast. The cast includes Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo, Oscar winner Julia Roberts, Alfred Molina, Corey Stoll, and several others.

The Normal Heart is set to debut on HBO in May, although it has not been given an official premiere date yet.
