Stacey Dash Calls Gender Pay Gap “An Excuse”

Stacey Dash is known for her outspoken conservative views, which she dishes out on a regular basis as a Fox New contributor.

However, Stacey Dash seemed to be caught a little off guard when she sat down to chat with Meredith Vieira on Wednesday’s episode of The Meredith Vieira Show.

Of course, Stacey Dash had to answer some tough questions posed to her by Vieira on her political views, as they take complete opposite stances on most politically charged topics.

But, one topic in particular pitted Stacey Dash and Meredith Vieira against each other in a rather heated discussion: the gender pay gap.

    Watch the exchange:

When Vieira asked Stacey Dash why she took issue with a recent video featuring Rita Wilson that highlighted women’s struggle for equal pay in Hollywood, Washington, and Fortune 500 companies, Stacey Dash tried her hardest to defend herself.

Stacey Dash said, “I feel like it’s an excuse. It’s the same thing with race. It’s an excuse. Stop making excuses.”

She added, “If there are opportunities, seize them and be prepared for them, and be the best, if that’s what it takes. If you have to be extraordinary, then be extraordinary.”

Meredith Vieira then threw out some statistics to support her argument and implied that sometimes being extraordinary isn’t good enough if you’re a woman.

Vieira said, “I feel like we’re fighting an uphill battle. When you look at just the numbers, we make 78 cents for every dollar that a man makes. At the rate we’re going, my daughter, who’s 22, will be 65 when there’s finally pay equality. There’s something wrong, something clearly wrong.”

Stacey Dash then seemed to questioned her data, saying, “I don’t know if that’s true.”

But, Vieira quickly said, “That’s true, that’s documented.”

Stacey Dash clarified herself by saying, “I feel like your daughter will be able to make as much money as she wants in her life. Just like you are — I mean, look at you.”

Vieira acknowledged that she is quite successful, but that it took a lot of hard work and added that, along the way, her male colleagues made more money than she did.

Stacey Dash replied, “I guess I won’t put my fate into anything other than my own action, and taking my destiny in my hands. I will not be a victim.”

Vieira quickly cut in, saying, “I’m not saying I’m a victim. I’m pissed off,” for which she got a round of applause.

Stacey Dash acknowledged her right to be pissed off, but told her to just work harder. She said, “And that’s the thing: If you want to be pissed off about it, then be pissed off about it and work harder for it. Because there is a law passed that we get equal pay.”

“Except we don’t,” Vieira argued back. “We don’t. We don’t.”

That was quite the heated exchange between Stacey Dash and Meredith Vieira! Who’s stance do you agree with more on the hot-button issue of gender pay equality?

  • Chrissy Teigen Takes Strong Stand Against Photoshopping

Chrissy Teigen is taking a strong stand against excessive Photoshopping. The super model and wife of singer John Legend believes many have forgotten what ‘normal’ people look like as a result of too much Photoshopping.

It was while she was a guest on The Meredith Vieira Show on Friday morning that Chrissy Teigen shared a photo of herself–replete with stretch marks and bruises.

“I’m working on a cookbook, so I was bumping around the kitchen and every door handle would just nick me every single time, and I was actually just taking a picture of the bruises and then I saw the stretch marks in there,” she told Meredith Vieria. “I have those apps, those Facetunes, those Photoshopping ones, and I just didn’t feel like doing it anymore–and I’m never doing it again, because I think we forgot what normal people look like now. The standard is so ridiculous.”

“Bruises from bumping kitchen drawer handles for a week. Stretchies say hi!” she captioned her photo.

Chrissy Teigen believes that all of the photo editing on social media has gone way too far.

“It’s gotten to the point where they’re not smoothing their skin anymore, they’re actually changing the shape of their body,” she continued. “Nobody can compare to that when you’re fixing yourself so much. It’s so unfair.”

Kudos to Chrissy Teigen for both speaking out against Photoshopping and for posting her Instagram photo that clearly shows off her stretch marks. Women–especially young women–need to see that even super models aren’t perfect. Her statement about people not knowing what ‘normal’ looks like certainly and sadly rings true.

Hopefully more models will follow Chrissy Teigen’s lead and share some photos via social media of their imperfections, letting the whole world know that there are very few physically perfect people.

  • Vivica A. Fox Talks 50 Cent, Calls Him the Love of Her Life

Vivica A. Fox–on the heels of getting fired by Donald Trump on Celebrity Apprentice–sat down with Meredith Vieira on The Meredith Vieira Show, in an episode that will air on Monday, and talked about a very special man from her past.

Fox, of course, dated 50 Cent way back when, and they famously broke up in 2003. She admitted to Vieira, however, that he still holds a very special place in her heart.

“He is absolutely the love of my life,” she admitted, but added that dating him was ‘difficult.’

“I really, really cared for him and I loved him very, very much and I always will, but he just wasn’t right for me,” she said. “That’s hard when you really, really love a person in your heart, you want to be with them, but you finally have to say, ‘He’s just not right for me.’”

Vivica A. Fox and 50 Cent dated for about a year, and when they split each talked negatively in the media about the other. These days, however, she wishes nothing but good things for the ‘My Life’ rapper.

“I wish him the best, he is amazing and baby, he’s fine, but… sometimes love ain’t always right,” Vivica A. Fox explained to Meredith Vieira. “The heart wants what it wants, but sometimes it’s just not right.”

Fox learned something very important during her relationship with 50 Cent, however.

“[I learned] to trust in my heart and know to take the time not to settle,” she spilled. “I think as women sometimes we’re afraid to be alone or we think, ‘Oh my god, he’s a great catch.’”

Vivica A. Fox makes an excellent point in this statement–something all women, whether young or old–should take note of. Not settling is among the greatest gifts a woman can give to herself. Settling inevitably leads to destruction–of one or both people in a relationship.

Kudos to Vivica A. Fox for sharing her wise words, that likely weren’t easy to come by. She learned from experience, and that can hurt. But when the lesson is a good one, it always makes one stronger in the end.

Will you tune in to The Meredith Vieira Show on Monday to see her entire interview with Vivica A. Fox? What else might she share about her time with 50 Cent?

  • Bethenny Frankel Takes On Weight Critics

Bethenny Frankel Takes On Weight Critics

Bethenny Frankel appeared on the Meredith Vieira Show on Tuesday, January 13th, and shot back at recent weight critics who say she’s too thin. The Real Housewives of New York cast member and Skinnygirl founder says the critics saw a photo of her wearing a bikini while on a recent vacation with her boyfriend, Michael “Mac” Cerussi III.

“People were going, ‘Oh, she’s too thin,’” Meredith Vieira said.

“Yes, ‘I need to eat a burger,’” Bethenny Frankel said. “I was sick over the holidays. I don’t know. Do I look bad? Do I look like I need to eat a burger?”

The Skinnygirl founder went on to slam critics for making such unkind remarks about her body.

“I feel like, who cares, they are always going to say something,” she said. “I do have a brand called Skinnygirl, so I am going to get beaten up for it. It would be bad if I were overweight and had a brand called Skinnygirl, could you imagine?”

Bethenny Frankel also dished about her recent return to RHONY, which prompted Vieira to jokingly call out the reality star for lying.

“I just want to set this up properly,” Vieira said. “Last October, I welcomed you into my home because I love you. Very nicely, I asked if you would be returning to The Real Housewives of New York.”

Frankel said no at the time. However, she did confirm she was returning to the show in an interview Us Weekly in October.

“Listen, bitch,” Frankel said to Meredith Vieira, jokingly. “Did I say I have no deal to go back on Bravo, did I say that? I was not lying. No, this is the truth. I had no deal to go back on Bravo and you know, Meredith Vieira, with your own talk show, that if you don’t have a deal and it’s not signed, the deal can fall through at anytime.”

It seems like something is certainly amiss between Bethenny Frankel and the Real Housewives of New York. Do you get that impression, too?

Do you agree with Frankel’s critics that she’s way too thin or do you think this kind of body shaming is as bad as ridiculing people who need to lose weight?

  • Meredith Vieira Buys El Dorado Penthouse

Meredith Vieira has purchased a penthouse in the famed El Dorado building in New York City for a tidy sum. While it still hasn’t been divulged exactly what the former Today Show host paid for her new digs, the asking price was $8.55 million. Her new place features three bedrooms and four bathrooms, and two large planted terraces. It will afford her and hubby, news producer Richard Cohen, a view of the Central Park reservoir.

The host of The Meredith Vieira Show will move in to recently renovated accommodations that haven’t been lived in since work was completed. She and Cohen will enter their new abode via an elevator that opens into a private landing. The penthouse also features a “loft-like” living room, formal dining room, oak floors, a two-sided wood-burning fireplace, and 10-foot ceilings. The master suite features a large dressing area–perfect for the on-air personality. An eat-in chef’s kitchen tops off the fine amenities.

Lest one think Meredith Vieira is all about wealth and fine accommodations, do note that this same woman made friends with Marilyn Ram’s kindergarten class in Teaneck, New Jersey this fall–adopting them for the entire school year. She recently checked back in on ‘her’ kids and talked with them about spreading holiday cheer and goodwill.

According to the New York Post, Macy’s and Make-A-Wish are celebrating the seventh year of the Believe Campaign. Beginning in November, believers of all ages brought their stamped letter addressed to Santa at The North Pole into Macy’s. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1,000,000.

“The crew came in and asked the class to write wishes for the holidays,” Ram said. “I had them think of three wishes prior to them writing: one for themselves, one for someone else, and one for the world.”

Meredith Vieira hand-delivered the kindergartners’ letters herself to the Macy’s Believe mailbox. The class then went back to the studio on December 3rd for a live taping–their second trip to the studio. During the show, lifestyle expert, Meredith Sinclair, shared the Ultimate Gift Guide for kids this holiday season.

The Bryant School kindergarten class, as well as each of the audience members went home with all of the gifts featured on the show. The gifts included an American Girl Doll, a LEGO Fusion Town Master set, a Strawberry Shortcake Singing Doll, a Hubsan X4 Mini Quadcopter, and a LeapPad3″ Wi-Fi Tablet. The show aired on December 9th.

“The footage from the classroom where the children were writing their wishes was shown, as well as their reaction and surprise when they received the gifts,” Ram said. “The children were very surprised when Meredith said they were getting all of the gifts. It was very generous and my children and their families are very appreciative.”

Meredith Vieira and her staff plan to visit her adopted kindergarten class once a month for the rest of the school year, with many more projects planned.

Do you suppose she will invite the kids to check out her new place at the El Dorado? Is it set up for hosting multiple servings of cookies and milk?

  • Tori Spelling to Stick With ‘True Tori’ After Dean McDermott Leaves

Tori Spelling has confirmed that her husband Dean McDermott is in fact quitting their reality TV show True Tori. She has also confirmed, however, that this doesn’t indicate the end of the show. Tori has vowed she will stay on with True Tori even after Dean makes his exit.

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star visited Meredith Vieira on The Meredith Vieira Show recently. The episode aired the day before Thanksgiving. She told Vieira she stands by her decision to keep her ‘personal life public.’

“We let it all hang out,” Tori said. “I don’t [think I reveal too much] because if everything hadn’t been made as public as it was, I would’ve chosen to deal with this privately with my husband.”

“We’re talking about the affair that my husband had almost a year ago. I chose to deal with it because it was my journey, it was my truth. Women everywhere go through this and I wanted to put it out there, Spelling added, addressing Meredith Vieira’s audience.

Tori Spelling finds it helpful to air her dirty laundry.

“It’s completely cathartic for me and it’s very individual,” she said of sharing her recent struggles. “I know everyone has an opinion about me putting my life and relationship out there, and it’s something… I needed that. I felt like I didn’t have a voice for so long.”

Dean McDermott, on the other hand, doesn’t find it helpful at all.

“I can’t keep opening a vein, opening my soul and sharing my feelings and thoughts and demons with the world. I don’t watch it. I can’t. It’s really difficult. I can’t do it anymore, for my soul,” he said a few weeks ago.

Will True Tori draw the viewers it has once Dean McDermott leaves the show? After all, they’re likely tuning in to watch things transpire between Dean and Tori–not just Tori Spelling on her own. Could his leaving signify the beginning of the end of True Tori?

  • Meredith Vieira Commiserates with Sarah Hyland’s Experiences of Physical Abuse

Meredith Vieira welcomed Sarah Hyland to her show recently, and the two had similar stories of physical abuse to talk about.

Hyland, who recently got a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, was able to open up to Vieira a bit about her trying experience, perhaps because the talk-show host could commiserate.

Vieira asked the 23-year-old actress, who visited The Meredith Vieira Show with her dog Barkley Bixby, about “moving beyond an abusive relationship.”

Vieira shared that when she was also 23, she went through “something similar,” and asked Hyland how she dealt with the adversity she’s faced in her life. They both counted themselves lucky to be out of the relationships.

According to Hyland, she relies on the words of literary giants to find the strength to keep going through difficult times.

“There are two quotes that I want to say. One is a Dylan Thomas poem, ‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,’ which is one of my favorite poems,” Hyland shared. “It just strikes a chord in me. And also Robert Frost’s ‘The only way out is through.’”

On September 19, 2014, Hyland obtained a restraining order against High School Musical 3 actor Matthew Prokop, 24. In court documents, she claimed the actor choked her, threatened to harm her dog and threatened to burn her house down.

Hyland and Prokop first met in 2008 at an audition for High School Musical 3 and later co-starred in the Disney TV movie Geek Charming. They dated for five years before splitting up in August.

Hyland has kept a positive perspective despite the gravity of the situation.

“People have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today,” Hyland said. “And that’s that.”
