  • Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves Join Elle Fanning in ‘The Neon Demon’

Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame has joined the cast of an upcoming Nicolas Refn film called The Neon Demon. Actor Keanu Reeves has reportedly signed on the dotted line as well. The film stars Elle Fanning, and Variety calls it a ‘subversive female-driven horror tale.’

Abbey Lee, Jena Malone, and Bella Heathcote–known for their roles in Drive, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and Dark Shadows, respectively–round out the star-studded cast.

Production of the film is scheduled to begin in late March.

This isn’t the first Nicolas Refn film for Christina Hendricks. Both she and her The Neon Demon costar Abbey Lee also starred in his film Drive. Refn wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film with newcomer Mary Law.

Keanu Reeves might feel like he’s lost in a sea of estrogen as he stars in the upcoming film along with all these women. However not many men would balk at hanging around a movie set with someone as gorgeous as Christina Hendricks.

Nicolas Refn isn’t spilling anything about the plot of The Neon Demon just yet. He is no doubt hoping that the cast members will be enough of a draw prior to the start of production.

Are you a Christina Hendricks fan? Might you consider checking out what sounds like a rather dark thriller when this new film hits theaters?

The Neon Demon is set to premiere in U.S. theaters some time in 2016.

  • Jennifer Lawrence ‘Hunger Games’ Song Hits Top 40

For her new film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, actress Jennifer Lawrence recorded a song for the soundtrack, which hit the Top 40 music chart in the United Kingdom.

The song, entitled “The Hanging Tree,” features Lawrence’s vocals, and has charted at #14, according to the BBC. It will be revealed on Wednesday if the track breaks the U.S. Top 40 Hot 100 chart.

Mockingjay, Part 1 director Francis Lawrence claims that the Oscar-winning actress, 24, was reluctant to sing the song herself. The director commented, “I knew she didn’t love the idea of singing, but I didn’t realize how nervous she was until when we started the first take, and she was in tears. Not totally broken down, but she was unhappy. She would have much rather we used somebody else’s voice. I think she said she wanted Lorde (who sings the movie’s theme song) to do it!”

    Here is “The Hanging Tree”:

Commenting on how Lawrence’s vocals sound similar to her speaking voice, the director added, “It shouldn’t sound like a professional. It should sound like a real girl singing. So she did it. She did it all day. And she has a really cool sound to her voice. There’s kind of a raspy texture to it. So it was not terrible in the slightest.”

Here is the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1:

According to studio estimates, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 raked in roughly $83 million during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday and $57 million for the three-day weekend. Since opening last weekend, Mockingjay has earned about $480 million worldwide.

Fans take to Twitter to discuss Lawrence’s new track:

Regarding Jennifer Lawrence and Twitter, the actress recently opened up on her views regarding social media.

“I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good on phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don’t really understand what it is. It’s like this weird enigma that people talk about. It’s fine. I respect that,” Lawrence remarked.

  • Jennifer Lawrence: ‘Hunger Games’ Song Climbs Pop Chart

Jennifer Lawrence isn’t just a film star. The Hunger Games heroine is now a pop star, too. Lawrence lent her vocals to a song in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, and it is fast climbing the pop charts in the UK.

‘The Hanging Tree’ is the name of the song that People magazine describes as a ‘haunting tune.’ It has reached the Top 40 chart in the UK, presently holding the number 29 position.

Francis Lawrence directed The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1. He says Jennifer Lawrence was a wreck while singing the song on set for an important scene in the film.

“I knew she didn’t love the idea of singing, but I didn’t realize how nervous she was until when we started the first take, and she was in tears. Not totally broken down, but she was unhappy,” he said. “She would have much rather we used somebody else’s voice. I think she said she wanted Lorde [who sings the movie’s theme song] to do it!”

Jennifer Lawrence sings much the same way she speaks. No one was looking for a pitch perfect vocal performance, but rather a real girl singing a song.

“It shouldn’t sound like a professional,” Francis Lawrence adds. “It should sound like a real girl singing. So she did it. She did it all day. And she has a really cool sound to her voice. There’s kind of a raspy texture to it. So it was not terrible in the slightest.”

  • Natalie Dormer: How She Trained For Hunger Games

One thing is for certain. There is a lot of running and make believe fighting in the Hunger Games movies. How did Natalie Dormer, who plays Cressida in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, get herself fit enough to play the physically demanding role? She trained for and completed a marathon. Yes, that’s 26.2 miles in case you didn’t already know.

Dormer ran the London Marathon last April, and it clearly helped her prepare for the physical nature of playing a role where characters are literally fighting for their lives. “When we were shooting, we shot the two movies back to back, Mockingjay – Part 1 and Mockingjay – Part 2, and so we were nine months shooting and I was training for the London Marathon at the time, so that really helped, because a semi-automatic rifle is quite heavy,” Dormer said. “But I’m quite physical and I really enjoyed the cardio demands. It’s more in the second movie than the first, I’m more with the camera.”

Dormer is also known for her roles on cable television. She played the ill-fated Anne Boleyn on The Tudors, which aired on Showtime. Additionally, the 32-year-old actress currently plays Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s epic fantasy Game of Thrones, which just completed filming Season Five. In the show, Tyrell is the widow of the evil King Joffrey. However, she is hoping to connive her way back to Queendom by seducing Joffrey’s younger brother King Tommen, who is the presumptive heir to the Iron Throne.

Here’s Dormer chatting with Conan about how she would prefer her character Margaery to bite the bullet on Game of Thrones.

It looks like the English actress will be busy for the next year or two. She currently has three films in pre-production: Patient Zero, The Girl Who Invented Kissing, and The Forest.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens nationwide in theaters on Thursday. Mockingjay – Part 2 is currently in post-production and is slated for a November 2015 release.
