“Any psychotic ex-boyfriends I should be aware of?”
“You have no idea.”
And with that, The Dark Knight as a romantic comedy concept plays out beautifully. One of my favorite YouTube video genres is the re-edited movie trailer, as it proves that with the right cuts and the proper soundtrack, you can make any movie into anything you want it to be – and this one doesn’t disappoint.
While we’re firmly in the grips of The Amazing Spider Man’s reboot, it’s never to early to plan for the next cinematic tentpole event, and when you pair the names Christopher Nolan and Batman, you know you’re in for a blast of a time at the theaters. Nolan’s next trip to the Gotham universe is a little over two weeks away, and to keep the anticipation at a healthy buzz, Warner Brothers has not been shy about the release of promotional content, all in an effort to keep the buzz going.
So when you see three new posters for The Dark Knight Rises this close to the release, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. While Christian Bale’s Batman is once again front and center, Batman stories are only as strong as the bad guy being featured. With that in mind, it’s easy to understand why Nolan and Warner Brothers are giving the Bane character so much focus with the promotional content. As you can see from the lead image, Bane content is a hot item right now, with not one, but two posters focusing on the highly-anticipated villan:
In fact, some are speculating the poor reaction to the initial poster is what motivated this late release of new TDKR content:
In fact, reactions to each set of images were so polarized, there’s little surprise that the theatrical poster has more or less been replaced by the later offerings. And still, with just over two weeks left to release, Warner Bros. isn’t done yet.
Considering that, are these new posters better in the sense of what you were expecting? Would you have one of these hanging in your man cave?
We are only a few short weeks until The Dark Knight Rises debuts on the big screens, and the anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s return to the Batman universe is building quite rapidly. To further the mouthwatering, Warner Brothers has been releasing shorter TV Spots instead of extended trailers, as to keep the spoilage to a minimum. In their latest 30-second snippet, the footage focuses on Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, which is never a bad thing.
The new trailer makes great use of her footage, while giving us an additional glimpse at the relationship between Batman and Catwoman. Teamwork for the win, apparently:
Over at /Film, they ran across a list of actors attending the European premiere, and at least one of the names listed is taken as confirmation that a certain character will be returning in TDKR. The names of the attendees:
Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine
You may have noticed Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy, both of which stared in Batman Begins, the first journey in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. According to rumors, one of those two will be in the third installment, and it’s not Liam Neeson, which means, if accurate, we can expect to see another appearance from Murphy’s Scarecrow, something I find quite acceptable.
Another thing that’s acceptable? Anne Hathaway in Catwoman gear:
When the second full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises hit, it was with the understanding that it was the last full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated third installment to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series. But now, thanks to an exclusive trailer made for Nokia–is it weird to see such a popular movie partner with a struggling mobile device manufacturer?–we now have a new TDKR trailer for you to consume.
While there’s not a whole lot of new footage, there is some, as the 2:17 trailer tries its hardest to ramp up the tension surrounding the upcoming box office smash. There’s more focus on the Bane/Batman confrontation with a little bit of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman running around for good measure. There’s also quite a bit of footage featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as it’s becoming clear his character will play a substantial role in the movie. His character’s name in TDKR is John Blake, and the speculation remains that JGL could embody the Nightwing character, although that has been entirely unconfirmed, if not outright debunked.
Unfortunately, you have to login via Facebook before you’re allowed access to the Tumbler creation page. Do with that knowledge what you will. As you might expect, the new TDKR trailer didn’t escape the notice of Twitter, and the buzz is positive:
Every so often, MTV proves its still worth something to society, and at last night’s Movie Awards celebration, the channel that made its name playing actual music videos showed a little bit of its worth last night by debuting a new trailer for the upcoming finale to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.
The fact that this is the best trailer to come out of the TDKR marketing push only helps MTV’s cause:
As you might expect, Twitter didn’t miss the new trailer, either, and the reaction looks to be very positive:
The last Nolan/Batman movie hits the theaters on July 20, which, after watching the latest trailer, all of a sudden seems a long way off. Does the MTV trailer increase your hype meter for last installment of Nolan’s journey through Gotham? Does any still think Batman will die at the end?
I like that each one of them shows different scenes, instead of mixing the existing ones up in a different way. Granted, some of the scenes are the same, but they do make an effort to include different scenes in each of them.
It looks like Batman and Bane are going to do battle on the steps of Gotham City Hall, which should be epic.
The Dark Knight Rises will see the return of Christian Bale as a gruffer-than-necessary voiced Batman. Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, Inception, Warrior) will come on board in the role of Bane. Anne Hathaway is slated to play Selina Kyle, A.K.A Catwoman. Veteran actors Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman will all return in their previous roles.
This will be the third and final installment from director Christopher Nolan. Nolan was reportedly hesitant to return to the series, but welcomed the idea when brother Jonathan Nolan an David S. Goyer helped write a story that would bring the series to a satisfactory conclusion. In part, this new film is inspired by the comic Nightfall, which saw the debut of its primary villain, Bane.
After the death of Harvey Dent, AKA Two-Face, Batman takes responsibility for the crimes he committed to help protect Gotham. After eight years in exile, Batman returns to once again protect the city from a new threat: Bane. So far the plot details have been well hidden, although the trailers allude to the fact that Bane will at some point take Batman hostage and try to make him pay for the things that Two-Face did.
The Dark Knight Rises is set for release on July 20, 2012.
Following the death of District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for Dent’s crimes to protect Dent’s reputation and is subsequently hunted by the Gotham City Police Department. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Batman returns to Gotham, where he encounters the mysterious Selina Kyle and the villainous Bane, and must confront the latter’s plans to destroy the city.
If you’ve been on the Internet for a decent amount of time, you’ve probably come across a number of supercut mash-up videos. Whether it’s the “F*cking Short Version” of The Big Lebowski or any of the multitude that came out after, these are common content items that live a good life on YouTube and various blogs. Now, thanks to the hard work of the folks at TheCussingChannel, we have another supercut for the ages, this one from The Dark Knight, featuring only the scenes where The Joker talks. On camera.
Take a look:
According to their description, if they would’ve used every scene Heath Ledger’s unforgettable character appeared in, the video would be over 30 minutes long. Here’s what they kept:
Rules: Just The Joker, just the on-camera dialogue. Now, there are many shots in this film over the Joker’s shoulder, with the focus on the character he’s talking to… those lines didn’t make it… only the clips where the Joker is the focus of the shot (otherwise this becomes a 30-minute affair).
They also have individual links to the scenes they used, if you’d like to go that route. Bonus, the video has under 1000 views at the moment, so those of you who like to get in on something before it pops, here’s your chance.
We’re still a little under two months away from the third and final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series, and the marketing push is kicking in a little stronger now. This week has already seen the release of the final one sheet movie poster, along with new character posters to boot. And now, in lieu of anymore full-length trailers, there are some new TV commercial spots showing up. I’m happy to report that these new spots also feature new footage.
While they’re only 30 seconds long, they do the job quite well:
This next one carries the “Catwoman” in the title, as if to suggest it focuses solely on here. While this is not the case, she is readily present:
We’re not the only one to notice the increase in marketing content:
The summer, after the awesomeness provided by The Avengers, is shaping up to be fantastic. Too bad the GI Joe sequel didn’t want to come along for the ride. Way to go Warner Brothers. You win with TDKR and lose in so many other places. American Akira, anyone?

There’s an aura surrounding Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight; his turn as The Joker has already become legendary. You talk to not only comic book fans, but film aficionados, and all of them will tell you his performance is one of the greatest from the last decade. His death only solidified the mystifying nature of his performance, earning him a posthumous Oscar for Best-Supporting Actor. It also makes these previously unreleased set photos even more surreal.
John Caglione Jr. was the man behind The Joker’s make-up, and has released brand-new, previously unseen set photos from The Dark Knight
