Rachel Weisz to Star in Off-Broadway Production of “Plenty”

Rachel Weisz is headed back to New York, where she is set to star in the off-Broadway production of Plenty.

Known for her film performances in The Bourne Legacy, Oz the Great and Powerful, and The Lobster, Rachel Weisz will play the role of Susan Traherne, a former British intelligence agent who worked behind enemy lines in occupied France during World War II in the revival of David Hare’s 1978 play.

Susan’s life has become rather mundane since that time. Following two decades of peacetime, she is the depressed wife of a diplomat.

This won’t be the first time on a New York stage for the film star. Rachel Weisz starred alongside husband Daniel Craig in the 2013 revival of Betrayal.

Weisz and Craig will return to the stage at the same time. Daniel Craig has lined up an off-Broadway role for this fall, starring opposite David Oyelowo in Shakespeare’s Othello.

Have you seen Rachel Weisz on the big screen? Do you think her talent translates well to the stage?

Wouldn’t it be fun to see both Rachel Weisz and the James Bond star in their upcoming off-Broadway roles?

  • Jeremy Renner Doesn’t Carry a Gun Because of His Daughter

Jeremy Renner used to be afraid of guns. That’s what the star tells Playboy in a recent interview. But nowadays he is quite comfortable with them.

Renner has starred in numerous films that required him to handle weapons, including The Hurt Locker and his one-off Bourne Legacy film. Now he likes them. But he won’t carry one.

“For me it’s for home protection or sport shooting or target practice,” Renner says. “I’m not a hunter. I spent a lot of time training for movies, shooting and getting comfortable with weapons. There’s no fear for me ever in a weapon now. I also have a few swords, but that’s because of what they mean to me; there’s a lot of history behind them. They’re all tucked away and hidden now that I have a baby.”

That baby has changed a lot about Jeremy Renner. But he won’t let it stop him from taking some risks.

“I’ve been riding a motorcycle for a long time. I used to be kind of daring on it,” Renner explains. “Now I ride because I enjoy the experience. I’m not a daredevil doing wheelies, and I don’t ride fast. That’s not because of my daughter; it’s because that’s where I’m at in my life. I want to learn to fly a helicopter. Is that dangerous? Sure, I guess it’s just as dangerous as anything else in life. Has having my daughter, Ava, stopped me from doing that? We can croak at any moment doing the stupidest things. It would be a great disservice to her if, when she was older, she thought, Dad stopped riding motorcycles or started getting soft and protective of his own life because he wanted to be around for me. What message does that send? That living life with fear is a good thing? I’d rather that she knows I’d go out with a smile on my face living accountably, consciously and responsibly in my actions.”

  • Julia Stiles, Matt Damon Ready for ‘Bourne 5’

Julia Stiles and Matt Damon are reportedly both in for the filming of the next in the series of the Bourne spy franchise films. Tentatively called Bourne 5, Nicky Parsons and Jason Bourne are back with these actor’s reprisals.

Alongside Matt Damon, Julia Stiles starred in The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum. Neither appeared in The Bourne Legacy. Paul Greengrass, who directed both Supremacy and Ultimatum, is coming back to direct Bourne 5.

Julia Stiles’ portrayal of Nicky Parsons serves as one of the major links connecting the original three Bourne movies. It makes perfect sense for her to continue playing a role in this next chapter. Nicky has deep knowledge of Jason Bourne’s psychological issues, and this knowledge would likely come into play during the Bourne 5 narrative–as featured in the script that Greengrass and Damon have written alongside Paul Greengrass’s longtime editor, Christopher Rouse.

It’s possible that Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen will join Matt Damon and Julia Stiles in Bourne 5. He’s purportedly being eyed for the role of the film’s villain. Alicia Vikander of Ex Machina fame is as possibility in a key role as well.

Regardless of the other players, Matt Damon and Julia Stiles are said to be a done deal. Filming is set to begin next month with Bourne 5 scheduled to hit theaters in July of 2016.

Are you excited to learn that Julia Stiles and Matt Damon will soon reprise their Bourne roles?

  • Rachel Weisz in Two Films Vying for Cannes Film Festival Top Prize

Rachel Weisz has two chances for shining brightly at the Cannes Film Festival next month. The actress stars in La Giovinezza, an Italian-directed film that also stars Jane Fonda and Michael Caine. In addition, Weisz stars in a Greek entry, The Lobster, alongside Colin Farrell.

The star of The Mummy, Rachel Weisz is nothing if not amazingly versatile at her craft. Whether performing in a horror flick, a tear-jerker, or an action film–Weisz is on her game.

Rachel Weisz debuted in the film world back in 1994 in Death Machine, but her breakthrough came two years later when she appeared alongside Morgan Freeman and Keanu Reeves in Chain Reaction. In addition to these films, Weisz has appeared in Eragon, The Lovely Bones, The Bourne Legacy, Oz the Great and Powerful, and several more.

While appearing at Cannes, Rachel Weisz will show two sides to that versatility. La Giovinezza features two old friends vacationing at the foot of the Alps. They ponder about the confusion in their children’s lives and seriously consider their careers.

In The Lobster, Weisz channels her inner sci-fi in a film where single people must find mates within 45 days or they are transformed into animals and released into a life in the woods.

In other Rachel Weisz news, the actress was chosen as one of Variety’s Power of Women honorees. She received the honor for the work she does to help students attain college educations.

“Both my parents were immigrants and it was the most important thing that I go to a good university,” she told Variety.

The Cannes Film Festival entries don’t represent down time for Rachel Weisz. She is presently working on The Light Between Oceans based on the book of the same name by M.L. Stedman.

Do you expect Rachel Weisz and one or both of her films will emerge a big winner at Cannes next month? The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 15 to May 24.
