  • Netflix Shares Some Data On Binge Watching

Netflix is sharing results from a recent Harris Interactive survey, finding that out of 1,500 adult TV streamers in the U.S (those that stream shows at least once a week), 61% “binge watch” shows regularly.

73% of these people defined bing watching as watching between two and six episodes of the same show in one sitting, as opposed to weekend-long marathons.

Additionally, 73% say they have positive feelings towards binge watching, as opposed to feelings of guilt.

To go along with the Harris poll, Netflix hired cultural anthropologist Grant McCracken to “trace the evolution of binge watching” and go into people’s homes and “explore their changing TV behaviors”.

Probably not as creepy as it sounds.

“I found that binge watching has really taken off due to a perfect storm of better TV, our current economic climate and the digital explosion of the last few years,” says McCracken. “But this TV watcher is different, the couch potato has awoken. And now that services like Netflix have given consumers control over their TV viewing, they have declared a new way to watch.”

“TV viewers are no longer zoning out as a way to forget about their day, they are tuning in, on their own schedule, to a different world,” he says. “Getting immersed in multiple episodes or even multiple seasons of a show over a few weeks is a new kind of escapism that is especially welcomed today,”

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos adds, “Our viewing data shows that the majority of streamers would actually prefer to have a whole season of a show available to watch at their own pace. Netflix has pioneered audience choice in programming and has helped free consumers from the limitations of linear television. Our own original series are created for multi-episodic viewing, lining up the content with new norms of viewer control for the first time.”

79% said watching several episodes of shows makes them more enjoyable, and 76% said watching shows on their owns schedules is the preferred method. Lending more data to the theory that binge watching is a couples’ activity, 51% say they like to binge with at least one other person (compared to 38% for solo). 39% who prefer to save shows to watch later choose to stream saved series or seasons when the person they want to watch with is available.

80% of streamers say they’d rather stream a good show than read a friend’s social media posts. Who are these other 20%?

Fans can binge on the new season of Lilyhammer, as it just became available today. The second season of Netflix favorite House of Cards will be available for binge watching on Valentine’s Day. That should make for quite the romantic occasion.

Netflix recently announced the release schedule for its new kids show Turbo FAST, which has the first season broken up, leaving some to wonder if Netflix is altering its strategy of binge-inducing releases. Not so much. The release of these new findings further solidifies that this is not Netflix’s intention.

In fact, Netflix has already released one of its other shows in a fashion similar to its Turbo FAST plans. The company told BusinessWeek that it’s just about how the episodes are delivered to them. In most cases, it’s still going to be in a way that encourages binge watching.

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets New Trailer (And The Butchery Begins)

Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of House of Cards. The company released a teaser, and announced the season’s February 14th release date last week.

    “And the butchery begins.”

    Chills.

House of Cards is currently up for SAG, Writers Guild and People’s Choice Awards.

  • ‘Lilyhammer’ Season 2 Hits Netflix

    ‘Lilyhammer’ Season 2 Hits Netflix

Today marks a pretty special occasion in Netflix history. It’s the first time a second season of one of its original shows has become available for viewing.

Lilyhammer: Season 2 is now available to stream.

There are eight episodes. The titles are: Milwall Brick, Out of Africa, Fiddler’s Green, The Black Toe, The Island, Special Education, The Freezer and Ghosts.

It’s not only another season of a Netflix show. It represents the beginning of cycle 2 of Netflix’s big gamble on original content, which appears to be working out quite well for the company. The first year of Netflix originals has been a smashing success in terms of publicity, critical acclaim, fan engagement and award nominations, if nothing else.

House of Cards: Season 2 won’t be too far behind, hitting availability on Valentines’ Day. Throughout the year, we’ll get new seasons of Hemlock Grove, Orange is the New Black, Derek, Mako Mermaids, and new shows we haven’t seen yet. It’s still unclear when we’ll see more Arrested Development, though it does appear to be inevitable.

  • Jenny McCarthy Doesn’t Belong On “The View”

Most viewers were delighted to hear that Jenny McCarthy would be joining the women’s talk show The View. However, there is one person that thinks the decision to hire McCarthy was a complete mistake. McCarthy joined the women of The View back in September after Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck left the show. She now co-hosts alongside Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sherri Shepherd.

During a recent interview with Howard Stern, Julie Chen, host of the rival television show The Talk, didn’t hold anything back, and let Stern know exactly what she thought about McCarthy co-hosting The View. When Stern asked Chen if she thought it was a mistake to replace Behar and Hasselbeck,, she quickly replied saying: “Yes, because what made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that it was five different women — from five different walks of life — discussing politics.”

Chen continued to dish on McCarthy telling Stern that “no one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about politics.” “What put them on the map and made them good and famous, they don’t do that anymore. No one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race or politics. They don’t. That’s not what you put Jenny McCarthy on for.”

Chen doesn’t agree with the reasoning behind hiring McCarthy. She says they only hired her to “lighten the mood”, but now The View has lost its identity. “When Joy and Elisabeth left and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table-more gossip, more fun, more laughs…what happened was, in my opinion, ‘The View’ doesn’t know what it is now.”

Chen’s co-host Sharon Osbourne agreed with Chen’s opinion, and also gave Stern her thoughts on McCarthy. “They knew what their path was … you knew what to expect,” Osbourne said. “You watched it for their different opinions and now it’s kind of all over the place. It’s not one or the other.”

Despite Chen’s criticism of McCarthy’s role on The View, she did comment that McCarthy would be a better fit on The Talk, which doesn’t talk about politics.

  • Breaking Bad Snags Multiple Golden Globe Nominations

Breaking Bad just finished its five-year run, and as one of the most popular television shows of all time, it is no wonder that the show received all of the television nominations that it could get at the Golden Globe Awards. The fan favorite aired on AMC, and it is the only show from the channel that also includes hit shows The Wakling Dead and Mad Men, to get a nomination.

The Golden Globes have several surprises in terms of shows that are nominated this year, although everyone knew that Breaking Bad would come up big when the Golden Globe nominations were announced. Breaking Bad was very popular in its final season especially, after all of its fans were able to catch up, and had one of the best series finales in history.

The nominations were announced this morning for the show that honors the top performers in both film and television. The full list of nominees can be seen here, with Breaking Bad leading the pack, along with The Big Bang Theory, and the Netflix original, House Of Cards.

With the success of House Of Cards, among others, Neflix was able to earn six nominations for this year’s award show, second to only HBO, which tends to dominated TV cateogries.

Breaking Bad also came away with similar results when it came to the nominations at the SAG Awards, which were released yesterday. 30 Rock is also a big contender this year, despite only airing a few of its episode this year.

In terms of films at this year’s Golden Globes, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave will be leading the way with seven nominations each.

Breaking Bad features an outstanding cast that was also nominated for the Best Ensemble category in the SAG Awards, and the show received Golden Globe nominations for Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Best Television Series-Drama. Coming off of the success of Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul also recently got a new gig accompanying a talking horse in an animated Netflix original show called BoJack Horseman.

While it is nominated for everything else, the surprising snub for the show is the fact that Anna Gunn, who played Skylar White, was not nominated for her performance. One of the other biggest snubs is certainly completely leaving out both HBO hit Game of Thrones and Showtime’s Homeland.

It is no surprise that Breaking Bad has snagged more nominations than other television show after becoming Netflix’s most popular show, being ranked far ahead of its original shows House Of Cards, and Orange Is The New Black, which was surprisingly left out of the Golden Globes ceremony in the Best Television Series-Drama category.

Breaking Bad leads the pack of television shows, in a very competitive year that saw Netflix change the way people watch television more than before with its own original shows. Tune in on Sunday, January 12th in order to see who will win.

  • Netflix’s ‘Mako Mermaids’ Season 2 Begins Shooting

It may not get the accolades of some of the streaming service’s other shows, but Mako Mermaids, a “Netflix Original,” will be back.

Season 2 is getting ready to shoot, according to the show’s official Twitter account.

Additionally, cast member Amy Ruffle has been confirmed as returning.

    So is Chai Romruen:

The Australian show (a spinoff of H20 – Just Add Water) made its debut on Netflix with the “Netflix Original” label in July with the first batch of episodes. More episodes would appear on Netflix in September.

Netflix recently announced s similar release schedule for its upcoming kids show Turbo FAST, which got the company some attention for deviating from its normal binge-inducing release strategy, but this was really a trend it set with Mako Mermaids earlier this year.

In fact, it doesn’t so much appear to be a trend as a matter of individual situation. Netflix told BusinessWeek that it took this approach with Turbo FAST simply because that’s the way the episodes are being delivered to them.

House of Cards: Season 2 will be returning on Valentine’s Day with its all-episodes-at-once release schedule.

Corey Stoll is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for House of Cards against Rob Lowe (Behind the Candelabra), Josh Charles (The Good Wife), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Jon Voight (Ray Donovan).

House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Arrested Development are competing with each other for a People’s Choice Award.

Netflix shows combined for fourteen Emmy nominations and three wins. The wins were all for House of Cards.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, The Square, a documentary Netflix recently acquired is also generating some Oscar buzz.

House of Cards: Season 2 is set to debut on Netflix on Valentine’s Day. The second season of Lilyhammer, Netflix’s first original, debuts on Friday.

  • Breaking Bad Star Aaron Paul Gets a New Series

Well, that didn’t take long. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has landed a new series. The new series, which will be on Netflix, is called BoJack Horseman: A Tale of Fear, Loathing and Animals and will be animated. Aside from Paul, the series will also feature the voices of Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris.

According to Netflix’s announcement of the series, BoJack Horseman will follow former TV star BoJack as he tries to get through “a muddle of self-loathing, whiskey, and failed relationships.”

The series is set to premiere in mid-2014 and will have 12 episodes. The show was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, a writer and actor known for his work on The Exquisite Corpse Project. According to Variety, Arnett will do the voice of whiskey-drinking horse BoJack and Paul does the voice of BoJack’s sidekick.

“Even though he’s been out to pasture, I’ve always admired BoJack for his inimitable style and can-do attitude,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s getting off his legendary haunches to join the Internet TV revolution here on Netflix.”

Check out a photo Netflix posted of BoJack on Twitter below:

Even though Breaking Bad fans won’t get to see Aaron Paul, there’s no doubt they’ll love hearing the voice behind Jesse Pinkman again–especially if the show’s director will let Paul’s character Todd slip in a “bitch!” once in a while.

In other Breaking Bad news, it was announced today that the popular show has received three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Bryan Cranston, who played meth kingpin Walter White, is up for best actor in a drama series; Anna Gunn, who plays Walter’s wife Skyler, is up for best actress in a drama series; and Breaking Bad received a nomination for best drama ensemble.

  • ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Aaron Paul Gets Animated

Aaron Paul just completed the role of a lifetime with his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman on the hit television series “Breaking Bad.” Now it looks like the young actor is doing a 180 degree turn from the violent, cruel, crime-filled world of “Bad” and has signed on with an animated series.

Paul will join Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris in the Netflix animated comedy series “Bojack Horseman, A Tale of Fear, Loathing and Animals.” Ted Sarandos from Netflix describes what audiences can expect from the 12-episode series. “Bojack Horseman’ is a brutally funny and unique take on what can happen after pop stardom. Raphael [Bob-Waksberg, series creator] has created an amazing set of characters voiced by some of the best comics and actors in the world.”

The 34 year old actor is set to voice a character named Todd, who is Bojack’s human sidekick. The irony of Paul playing a guy named Todd will not be lost on “Breaking Bad” fans.

No exact release date for the series has been set. However, television audiences around the world can expect to see the show on Netflix sometime in mid-2014. In the meantime, you can check out the actor on the big screen. Paul has three films currently in post production: “A Long Way Down,” which is an adaptation of the best-selling Nick Hornby novel of the same name, “Need for Speed,” will feature Paul in the lead role as a speed racer, and finally “Hellion” where Paul will take a turn at playing an absentee father.

  • Netflix’s ‘House Of Cards’ Gets Kevin Spacey SAG Award Nomination

The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for 2014 were announced today. Kevin Spacey has received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role on Netflix’s House of Cards.

He’s up against Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom and Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. Not exactly a gimme.

While this is Spacey’s first nomination for the category, he’s no stranger to the SAG awards. He won two in 2000 for American Beauty, and was nominated in 2009 for Male TV Movie Or Miniseries for Recount, in 1998 for Motion Picture Cast for L.A. Confidential and in 1996 for Male Support for The Usual Suspects.

The 2014 nomination only adds to the increasing number of awards Netflix shows, and House of Cards in particular, have been nominated for. It started with fourteen Emmy nominations for Netflix originals, nine of which were for House of Cards. The show ended up winning three of them. The show is also up for a People’s Choice Award (competing against its Netflix peers Arrested Development and Orange is the New Black) and three Writers Guild awards. Orange is the New Black is also up for four Writers Guild Awards.

House of Cards: Season 2 is set to debut on Valentine’s Day.

  • Netflix Announces ‘BoJack Horseman’ Show With Will Arnett And Aaron Paul

Netflix just announced another new show for 2014. This one is an animated comedy called BoJack Horseman, and stars Will Arnett (of Arrested Development) and Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad).

    Here’s the premise:

Legendary star of the 1990s family favorite sitcom “Horsin’ Around,” BoJack (Will Arnett) has been trying to find his way through a muddle of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships. Now, in the presence of his human sidekick Todd (Aaron Paul) and his feline agent and ex-paramour Princess Caroline (Amy Sedaris), BoJack is primed for his comeback and the over 40 million global members of Netflix will be able to chart his progress in excruciatingly real time when all twelve episodes of season one hit the service in mid 2014.

The show was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, and will be executive produced by him along with Steven A. Cohen and Noel Bright, as well as Arnett and Paul. It’s being produced by produced by Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company.

BoJack himself (pictured) was designed by graphic artist Lisa Hanawalt and will be animated by LA-based ShadowMachine.

“Even though he’s been out to pasture, I’ve always admired BoJack for his inimitable style and can-do attitude,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s getting off his legendary haunches to join the Internet TV revolution here on Netflix.”

“As a studio executive involved in successful sitcoms like Happy Days, Barney Miller and Cheers, I always regretted BoJack wasn’t on my team,” Michael Eisner added. “But now, with Tornante in the saddle, BoJack is exactly where he belongs, in full creative control, and on Netflix.”

This ought to be a fun one.

  • Bonnie And Clyde Miniseries Draws In Fans Across 3 Networks

Bonnie And Clyde has finally hit the small screen. The crime duo made famous by the 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunnaway has been the inspiration for a new TV miniseries, and aired on multiple networks simultaneously in a miniseries that started last night.

The miniseries has become a hit already, drawing in the long-time fans of the film and history buffs who are interested in the tale. Bonnie and Clyde were real life criminals who became notorious for robbing banks, and went on one of the most infamous bank-robbing sprees in history.

The duo seem to still be popular with audiences, after a very successful premiere night, bringing in a total of 9.8 million viewers. Bonnie And Clyde is being shown on three different networks, which might help it get more viewers too, and is being shown on all of the A&E networks, Lifetime, A&E, and History. This marks the first time that the A&E Networks have ever done an simulcast across all three networks at the same time.

The miniseries has been criticized by some for not being the most historically accurate representation, although that did not seem to deter any audience members. Bonnie And Clyde stars Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger as Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Other notable stars in the cast include Holly Hunter and William Hurt.

Bonnie And Clyde put up impressive numbers, however, it fell short to the previous two miniseries which ran on the History channel, Hatfields And McCoys and The Bible. Hatfields and McCoys opened with 13.9 million viewers, and The Bible brought in 13.1 million viewers. In last night’s simulcast, the History channel led the way with 3.7 million viewers, followed by Lifetime with 3.1 million viewers and A&E with 3 million viewers.

The first episode of Bonnie And Clyde aired on Sunday, December 8th, and will conclude the two night event tonight at 9 p.m. After the ratings from last night, Bonnie And Clyde becomes cable’s best miniseries opening among total viewers since 2006’s Broken Trail.

  • Netflix’s Daredevil Series Gets A Showrunner

Last month, Netflix announced a deal with Disney to bring at least four different shows from the Marvel Universe to Netflix starting in 2015. The first show will be about Daredevil, and it now has a showrunner.

    Marvel announced on its site:

Marvel.com brought you the first news of the historic team-up between Marvel Television and Netflix, and now we’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Lost,” “Cloverfield,” “Cabin in the Woods,” “World War Z”) will join Marvel’s “Daredevil”! Goddard will write and direct the “Daredevil” first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Goddard’s only directing credit to date is the film The Cabin in the Woods. His writing credits, however, include five episodes of Buffy, five episodes of Angel, five episodes of Alias, nine episodes of Lost, The Cabin in the Woods and World War Z. He also served as producer on various episodes of Alias and Lost.

Following the Daredevil series, Netflix will also get shows about Marvel characters Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will all combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The whole thing will stretch over multiple years.

The shows are being produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios.

  • Sofia Vergara:Top Paid While News Obsesses On Weight

Life is full of ups and downs. This includes finances, weight and things that are just as important that the public eye probably does not care about.

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is feeling the highs and lows of stardom these days–Forbes has recently named her the highest paid television actor while some are worried about her apparently hitting the gym and cutting back on her diet.

The 41-year-old Colombian actress, who is usually praised for proudly displaying her voluptuousness, has experienced a recent surge in attention from the news. In between the usual tweets from adoring fans are website links writing about her weight and giving quizzes asking the world “Is Sofia too Skinny?”

In the articles, there are “quotes” of twitter users in an outrage about Sofia’s weight-loss, but there seems to be more news articles talking about Sofia Vergara’s weight than actual twitter users. Either all of the tweeters have deleted their posts for some reason, or they never existed– none of them have showed up in twitter’s search engine. The only tweets that do show up about her weight:

are dated from May and August 2013.

Vergara has experienced backlash earlier this year for apparently losing her “latin curves” in a Diet Pepsi ad but she assured fans that although she was skinny as a younger girl, that it was just the wardrobe in the ad that made her look so slim.

After posting up recent Thanksgiving pictures and a poster for her new upcoming series Killer Women, Vergara does look a bit slimmer, but the tweets have been full of marriage proposals and “te amoooooo”s per usual.

Due to fishy evidence, I say the verdict is still out on if “fans are in an outrage about Sofia Vergara being too skinny.” As Sofia Vergara continues to gain a wider lead on that number one Forbes’ list spot, the only fret truly should be is if doctors have any concern about her weight.

  • Brian The Dog: Back From The Dead?

Brian The Dog: Back From The Dead?

If you were one of the millions of stunned Family Guy viewers who didn’t take too well to the death of Brian Griffin, your tears of woe may not have been in vain. It has been recently revealed that there are plans to have the family pet make a return. The speculation is due to an upcoming Christmas-themed episode where the baby, Stewie, plots to have the one thing he wants more than anything else. If it were anything other than the return of his recently departed pet, the audience may have a huge conniption. So perhaps, just as many speculated, the producers saw the writing on the wall and felt it would be better to retcon a dead dog and a replacement pooch.

Producer Steve Callaghan said the decision to kill Brian would be, “a fun way to shake things up“. Well, shake things up the show did. Now it seems that a move is being made to bring things back to the way they were.

    Or is there?

While cynics were counting down the days until the seemingly inevitable return of the popular character, there’s still a chance for the entire fandom to be thrown for yet another loop. Perhaps the episode will have Brian happy “on the other side” and wishing to remain at peace. The dog’s mother had been revealed to have died in an earlier, and perhaps he’ll finally have the chance to get to know her. While it’s mentioned that the character is expected to feature in an episode next season (with guest-star Maya Rudolph), there’s nothing to the news to suggest a permanent return. It’s possible the dog may only feature in a flashback or cut away joke.

In other words, it’s probably best wait and see what happens with the Christmas special and future episodes before assuming one way or the other. While it’s most definite we’ll be seeing Brian again, how much of the dog and how permanently he’ll be seen has yet to be confirmed.

  • ‘Derek’ Season 2 Filming Is Wrapping Up

‘Derek’ Season 2 Filming Is Wrapping Up

That didn’t take long. It was only a month (and a couple days) ago that we were reporting that filming of Derek: Season 2 had begun. Now, they’ve finished.

The show, which debuted earlier this year in the UK on Channel 4 launched as a “Netflix Original” in September with the seven-episode first season. We probably won’t be seeing Season 2 on Netflix until the fall, but it is headed to post-production, and UK fans should be seeing it in the Spring.

Ricky Gervais tweeted this seven hours ago:

Apparently we’ll be seeing the gang go to the zoo, and will meet Kev’s brother, Cliff, played by Joe Wilkinson. Derek’s dog pal Ivor will be back as well (all of this via TadpoleHitler.com).

  • ‘Futurama’ Season 10 (Otherwise Known As Season 7B) Gets Netflix Release Date

We’ve learned that Netflix will begin offering the tenth season of Futurama on Tuesday, December 10th. Fans can already stream the first nine seasons.

The season labeling with this show is a little tricky. What is known as Season 10 by Netflix and other places is the tenth broadcast season, but actually the seventh production season, as Futurama Wiki explains.

It adds, “The original order of twenty-six episodes was split; the first thirteen episodes aired as the ninth season, and the remaining thirteen episodes aired in 2013 as ‘another run.’ Comedy Central had officially labelled this season as ‘Season 7B’ while season nine was called ‘Season 7A’.”

However you label it, you’ll soon be able to watch it.

The season includes the following episodes: Forty Percent Leadbelly, 2-D Backtop, T.: The Terrestrial, Fry and Leela’s Big Fling, The Inhuman Torch, Saturday Morning Fun Pit, Calculon 2.0, The Thief of Baghead, Assie Come Home, Leela and the Genestalk, Game of Tones, Murder on the Planet Express, Stench Stenchability and Meanwhile.

  • ‘American Horror Story’ Season 2 (Asylum) Gets Netflix Release Date

‘American Horror Story’ Season 2 (Asylum) Gets Netflix Release Date

We now have a Netflix release date for American Horror Story: Season 2 (Asylum). You’ll be able to stream it on December 7th (yep, tomorrow).

Fans of the show have been eagerly anticipating its return to Netflix, even as the third season only has two episodes left on FX. Luckily, since each season is a separate story, it should make little to no difference which order you watch them in.

We had initially speculated that Netflix might make Asylum available for streaming in November, as the first season became available in November of 2012. Netflix added last year’s season of Sons of Anarchy (another FX show) in October, a year after it added the previous season, so it seemed reasonable to expect similar treatment of American Horror Story.

This turned out to not quite be the case.Even before we had a hard release date, we learned last month that AHS would return to Netflix in December.

In case you’re interested, Netflix has also added the eighth season of FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to its streaming line-up.

  • Mario Bros. Actor Danny Wells Dies At Age 72

Danny Wells, who was famous for playing Luigi on the television adaptation of the popular video game franchise, has died. Super Mario Bros. is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, and with Mario as a staple of the Nintendo games, it was enough to give the video game its own television show, which does not happen often.

The character actor who was famous for playing Luigi died at the age of 72 in Toronto, Canada on November 28th, 2013. Danny Wells, whose real name was Jack Westelman, was a native of Montreal.

The Montreal Gazette released his obituary online, and even allows for people to sign a guestbook online, sending a message to the late actor.

He also played the recurring character of Charlie The Bartender on The Jeffersons. Danny Wells appeared as the green Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, which started in 1989, and lasted for 65 episodes. He was seen in the live-action parts of the show, and also voiced the character for the animated portions.

His co-star on the show, who played Mario, Lou Albano, died in 2009 at the age of 76. The show featured the same story from the video game franchise, which centers on Mario and Luigi as they travel to different lands trying to save the different worlds from the evil Bowser, and meet up with Princess Peach along the way.

Danny Wells made his on-screen debut in Love, American Style, and later appeared in many other films and television shows as a character actor including such hits as Magnolia, Sanford And Son, and The A-Team.

Fans of the show, and those that were fortunate enough to have worked with him will all mourn the loss of Danny Wells, a man who was not recognized as others were, but clearly had an extensive career that is worth noting. The Mario Bros. actor will be forever remembered as one of the key character actors of his generation.
